Festivus Carol – Let Us Have A Festivus! – Tea With Warriors (feat. Buffalo Festivus Chorale)
Gather ’round and sing-a-long to this traditional Festivus carol! For guitar chords see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqlKxy… The Buffalo Festivus Chorale was established in 1949 on the lower West Side of Buffalo to help celebrate and promote the accomplishments of the Festivite community. The Chorale was active giving performances throughout Buffalo until the mid-1960’s when much of the Festivite community emigrated to other parts of the country where they would not be persecuted for their beliefs . This historic recording was discovered at an estate sale in Cheektowaga, and digitally restored by Tea With Warriors in 2011.
I love Festivus. The celebrations, the the parades, the feasts,..the birthday wishes (68 and counting).
Went to see José Feliciano last might in Sony Hall – formerly Lucille’s Cafe at BB King’s in Midtown- 1/2 block off Times Square. At 74 his voice and guitar playing are as good as ever and his jokes still elicit groans. Unfortunately he’s a SFB supporter now. No one’s perfect I guess.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren has spent her campaign railing against the donor class, making it known she doesn’t want their help.
She has publicly bashed millionaires, has sworn off high dollar fundraisers and has refused large checks from Democratic bundlers.
But behind the scenes in recent months, former President Obama has gone to bat for Warren (Mass.) when speaking to donors reluctant to support her given her knocks on Wall Street and the wealthy.
And if Warren becomes the nominee, Obama has said they must throw the entirety of their support behind her.
The former president has stopped short of an endorsement of Warren in these conversations and has emphasized that he is not endorsing in the Democratic race.
But he also has vouched for her credentials, making it clear in these private sessions that he deems her a capable candidate and potential president, sources say.
“He’s asked all of the candidates who have sought his advice three questions: Is your family behind you? Why you? And why now? She checked the box for all,” said one longtime Obama ally.
“I think he feels licensed to give an opinion on her because he’s ‘hired’ her,” the longtime Obama ally said.
While former Vice President Biden is the best-known Obama figure running for president, he’s not the only one in the race to have worked for the administration.
Julián Castro was the secretary for Housing and Urban Development under Obama, and Warren in 2010 became an assistant to the president and special adviser to the secretary of the Treasury, where she helped set up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
“He obviously thinks she’s very smart,” one Democratic donor added. “He thinks her policy ideas matter. And I think he sees her running the campaign with the most depth.”
A source close to Obama said the former president would go to bat in the same way for any of the Democratic candidates running for president, pointing to comments the former president made last month.
“Look, we have a field that is very accomplished, very serious and passionate and smart people who have a history of public service and whoever emerges from the primary process, I will work my tail off to make sure that they are the next president,” the former president said in a question and answer session at a Democracy Alliance event in Washington.
Happy Festivus! Yes, it’s a Festivus for the rest of us – the holiday popularized by Seinfeld. Let’s set up the aluminum pole, have the airing of grievances and the feats of strength. For the WFUV Question of the Day, we’ll focus on the airing of grievances. Suggest a song that does just that and we’ll spin a set after 9am. Don’t disappoint me this year, leave your song suggestions in the comments below.
Broken lines, broken strings Broken threads, broken springs Broken idols, broken heads People sleeping in broken beds Ain’t no use jiving Ain’t no use joking Everything is broken
Broken bottles, broken plates Broken switches, broken gates Broken dishes, broken parts Streets are filled with broken hearts Broken words never meant to be spoken Everything is broken
Seem like every time you stop and turn around Something else just hit the ground
Broken cutters, broken saws Broken buckles, broken laws Broken bodies, broken bones Broken voices on broken phones Take a deep breath, feel like you’re chokin’ Everything is broken
Every time you leave and go off someplace Things fall to pieces in my face
Broken hands on broken ploughs Broken treaties, broken vows Broken pipes, broken tools People bending broken rules Hound dog howling, bull frog croaking Everything is broken
Funniest thing I have heard over night is that SFB is saying he was not impeached. Someone has “calmed” him down by convincing him he was not impeached by the House. That is hilarious. But, since he cannot read he will not see it in the newspapers or books.
BB, I saw useless idiot Ron Johnson questioning whether SFB is actually impeached if the articles aren’t transmitted to the Senate. That guy is an embarrassment to rocks everywhere when referred to as “dumb as a…” And I think it was him that questioned whether Pelosi had the authority not to transmit the articles to the Senate. Like I said, rocks.
Oh, and for my festivus grievance, we need Wisconsin next November. Wisconsin elected this moron.
Pat, I hate to tell you this but your cartoon is way dated.
Get the Santa app for your toddlers phone (Yes toddlers have phones now) Santa will call him up and talk to him and probably even help him order that special gift.
If it was any other old man making secret calls to our children we would be calling the police but Santa is special.
Speaking of kids and phones. My junk phone quit working last week so I took it to a hole in the wall shop where a couple of kids repair phones and computers cheap.
While I was there a man came in with the latest iPhone and wanted to know if they had one to sell. He needed it to look just like his phone so that his 7 year old could have a phone just like daddy.
lol and no this wasn’t out in the rich burb part of town.
Jack
My ongoing grievance is with the lame, feckless and factless national mass media
They suck and if actual journalism was practiced SFB would not be president.
The false equivalency baloney has got to go.
‘Tis a ripper theme, from the ripper dream team. They want you to dream that trump was not impeached. He was. If a prosecutor pockets an indictment, it doesn’t mean that the grand jury failed to indict. I merely means that the prosecutor put off prosecuting for some reason.
Yeah… well… we have 2 nieces that live in Vermont. We had our Xmas with them last night as they came down to see their sister who lives in Rick’s parents old house. Grandpa(one of Rick’s brothers) was there too and gave all their kids (our great nephew and nieces) tablets for Xmas. Usually it’s bedlam when these kids get together… but it was pretty quiet with all of them playing on their new devices. Can’t say I missed all the running around and screaming.
have been having fun today singing “feliz festivus” (to the tune of – you guessed it- “feliz navidad”) over and over driving folks crazy. bwah-ha-ha-haaa. makes for great earworm music
well, beats airing all those grievances at them and hurting their feelings.
I am enjoying the dry weather once again. The water level in the drainage system is finally dropping.
Duct tape and baling wire time. One of the connecting hoses on the turbo system on my truck engine split. Not one replacement part available in the surrounding region, including Ford. So go to the local hardware store pick up a roll of metal duct tape, high temperature; and a light bulb for the lava lamp. Climb into the engine compartment to clean the split hose, then start taping the duct tape around the hose until it is well covered. Strap the patch down with baling wire so it can handle the pressure and not blow off immediately. Test, be somewhat happy. Time to search for a company which can deliver the new hoses in a couple of days.
The lava lamp is working well once again. It also makes a great night light in the family room.
Well, I guess Doug Jones decided it was time for a “clarification” Must be getting a little warm down there in Alabama.
From His twitter feed.
“Folks, I am hearing you, but don’t confuse “gaps” with insufficiency. Everyone knows there are gaps because POTUS did not produce docs or witnesses. The American public deserves nothing less than all the facts – now. That means a fair trial with witnesses and documents.”
Jack, Doug’s doing damage control. Trying to walk that tightrope must be difficult. A turnout by the dem base put him in office. He should remember that. White rednecks won’t vote for him no matter what position he takes on the impeachment trial or its outcome. They’ll vote for Jeffy Sessions or for the idiot ex chief justice of the AL Supreme Court, the “honorable “ Roy Moore.

Christianity Today again slams Trump, raises issue of ‘unconditional loyalty’
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Christianity Today, the magazine founded by the late Reverend Billy Graham, renewed its criticism of President Donald Trump in a new editorial that cited his “misuses of power” and asked fellow Christians to examine their loyalty to him, days after a controversial editorial that called for his impeachment.
The 130,000-circulation magazine, which has 4.3 million monthly website viewers, in its editorial last week cited Trump’s “profoundly immoral” conduct in office, drawing immediate criticism from Trump and dozens of evangelical leaders.
Evangelicals have been a bedrock of support for the Republican president, and the magazine noted in its new editorial, published Sunday, that Trump “has done a lot of good for causes we all care about.”
But the magazine’s president, Timothy Dalrymple, wrote in the editorial, headlined “The Flag in the Whirlwind,” that evangelicals’ embrace of Trump means being tied to his “rampant immorality, greed, and corruption; his divisiveness and race-baiting; his cruelty and hostility to immigrants and refugees.”
“With profound love and respect,” Dalrymple said, “we ask our brothers and sisters in Christ to consider whether they have given to Caesar what belongs only to God: their unconditional loyalty.”
The editorial praised the Trump administration’s judicial appointment, “advocacy of life, family, and religious liberty.” But it said, “It is one thing to praise his accomplishments; it is another to excuse and deny his obvious misuses of power.
Dalrymple pledged to open up a “serious discussion about how our activity as Christians shapes our activity as citizens” in 2020. He declined to be interviewed until after the Christmas holiday.
Evangelical Christians make up about 25% of the U.S. population. According to a Pew Research poll https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/03/18/evangelical-approval-of-trump-remains-high-but-other-religious-groups-are-less-supportive from last January, 69% of white evangelicals approved of the job Trump is doing, compared with 48% of white mainline Protestants and 12% of black Protestants.
sure hope this new gospel (from CT) gets spread and taken to heart at the next prayer meetings and church socials:
…Timothy Dalrymple, wrote in the editorial, headlined “The Flag in the Whirlwind,” that evangelicals’ embrace of Trump means being tied to his “rampant immorality, greed, and corruption; his divisiveness and race-baiting; his cruelty and hostility to immigrants and refugees.” “With profound love and respect,” Dalrymple said, “we ask our brothers and sisters in Christ to consider whether they have given to Caesar what belongs only to God: their unconditional loyalty.”
OKLAHOMA CITY — Elizabeth Warren mentions her Oklahoma upbringing without fail when campaigning, usually asking if there are any other “Okies” in her crowds. “There aren’t many of us,” Warren typically observes.
Much of that routine went out the window Sunday night when she made her debut presidential campaign appearance in her native state, speaking to an audience of 2,000, mostly Oklahoma residents, crowded into the gym at the Oklahoma City public high school where she graduated in 1966.
“I spent a lot of hours in this gymnasium,” the Democratic senator from Massachusetts said early in her speech, adding that she watched games from the bleachers. “I never thought I’d be down on the floor doing something like this,” she added before pivoting to her larger message: “You know, you don’t get what you don’t fight for.”
[…]
A 1965 debate trophy inscribed with “Liz Herring” is still displayed in a case at the school. Audience members held up signs with large blue letters that spelled “OKC 4 WARREN.” She walked through the crowd, a departure from her typical jogging entrance, hugging and waving to people.
Her nephew Mark Herring introduced her, referring to her connection to her extended family.
“She’s worked her tail off to get where she is. And even when she left Oklahoma, she still worked her tail off for our family,” Herring said. “Our family is part Republican and part Democrat, and we all love her and support her 100 percent. She’ll fight for your family just like she’ll fight for hers, if you elect her.”
And in a folksy final flourish that Warren’s communications director blasted out over social media, he added: “She’ll always be Aunt Betsy to me. And when she’s elected, I’ll call her President Aunt Betsy.”
The audience also included John and David Herring, two of her three brothers. She frequently talks about them on the campaign trail, but they do not appear with her at events and decline to talk to the press.
At one point, her brother David smiled and laughed as she retold a favorite story that David, as a former Army medic, believes he can perform an emergency tracheotomy.
“It makes for some exciting Thanksgivings,” Warren said.
And he laughed when she talked about the success of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency she helped create to impose more oversight on banks.
“For my brother, who cannot believe that he would ever applaud for a government agency, I will just point out, it has forced those banks to return more than $12 billion directly to people they cheated,” Warren said.
