A federal judge has rejected former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s attempt to toss out a money laundering charge stemming from his use of offshore bank accounts funded by a lobbying campaign he masterminded on behalf of political interests in Ukraine.

Manafort’s defense team argued that the tens of millions of dollars he’s accused of laundering didn’t qualify as the proceeds of criminal activity because lobbying for a foreign entity in the U.S. is legal and the only crime Manafort may have committed in that regard is failing to register.
But U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson disagreed.

“It is a crime to ‘act’ [as a foreign agent] ‘unless’ one has registered ā€“ the statute does not simply state that the failure to register is unlawful,” Jackson wrote in a nine-page decision issued Friday. “These laws are not just about paperwork; their object is to ensure that no person acts to advance the interests of a foreign government or principal within the United States unless the public has been properly notified of his or her allegiance.”

also at politico by jack shafer :
Donald Trump is good at many things, but his greatest gift may be his ability to distract the newshounds by shouting ā€œSquirrel!ā€ and sending them sniffing for a new story. But this week, the dogs wouldnā€™t stop gnawing on the presidentā€™s leg, no matter what he said.

His Cabinet secretaries might be grateful. The crying-babies, kids-in-cages news coverage about the U.S.-Mexican border pushed a Forbes story about Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Rossā€™ foreign investments to the inside pages. And as for every reporterā€™s favorite Trump administration piƱata, the border story has been as great for Scott Pruitt as it has been horrible for Donald Trump.
[ā€¦.]
The border story couldnā€™t have arrived at a worse time for Trump. After the inspector generalā€™s report on FBI handling of the Clinton email investigation came out on June 14, Trump seized on it with his demagogic tentacles and started to score points with his misguided supporters about how the deep state had attempted to block his election. He falsely claimed that it ā€œtotally exonerates me,ā€ when it does no such thing, and asserted that it ā€œtotally discreditedā€ special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIā€™s investigation, which is also a lie. Given that few of his supporters were ever going to fact-check his bluster by reading the 568-page report, Trump profited politically with his early obfuscations and manipulations of his basesā€™ prejudices.

But when the border story took over, two things happened. Just as Cosby, North Korea and the border saved Pruitt by pushing him out of his top news ranking, the border story nullified Trumpā€™s howling about the IG report and the evil James Comey. Nobody wanted to hear about the IG anymore; they wanted to hear Trump justify the border policy. Trump was now facing a story that couldnā€™t be diluted or contaminated with Twitter truculence.
Oh, he tried. First he blamed family separations on the Democrats, but nobody believed him. Then he tried to pass the buck to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, and that didnā€™t work at all. As much as he howled, his message about ā€œenforcing the lawā€ couldnā€™t find footing. His blather was overwhelmed by the emotional punch carried by the pictures and the stories about families breaking up. (MSNBC pushed the story the hardest, applying almost a Fox News thoroughness to nurturing, advancing, and yes, sensationalizing the story.) Even congressional Republicans peeled off in great numbers. It was all too much for the president. On Wednesday, he waved the white flag by signing an order in a stagy TV performance that was supposed to indicate that he was ā€œsolvingā€ the problem.

But what he really did was surrender while declaring victory. For all his constant talk about strength, Trump came off weak and depleted. After he went to Capitol Hill to sell his version of the immigration bill, it failed. And his intervention in the furor over Melaniaā€™s jacketā€”in which he contradicted her officeā€™s explanation of what the jacket slogan meantā€”came off as doddering and hopeless.
For three years now weā€™ve been told that nothing bad sticks to Trump, that his mind games and double-talk make him invulnerable to the protestations of the righteous. That no matter how tight his detractors tie the knot, heā€™ll always slip out of it. This week we learned differently. Trump can reliably win the battle if itā€™s fought with words. But against images and descriptions of distraught and traumatized children and parents, Trumpā€™s superpowers fail. If you want to beat Trump, hit him in the heart because he doesnā€™t seem to have one. Heā€™s a man with zero emotional intelligence.

carl Hiaasen:

Evangelical leaders were too silent for too long

It feels surreal, as our country approaches the 242nd anniversary of its freedom, to be celebrating the fact that our government is no longer pulling crying toddlers and infants away from their parents along the southern border.

Equally strange has been the sluggish response of some evangelical leaders, whose notion of biblical mercy is one that shines less brightly on immigrants. Rev. Franklin Graham, for example, only last week acknowledged that the U.S. policy of separating migrant families was ā€œdisgraceful.ā€

That word should have thundered two months ago from his pulpit. And other words, too: Heartbreaking, inhumane, cold-blooded, shameful, un-Christian, un-American, immoral, indefensible.

[ā€¦.]
The TV prayers and professed dismay of pastors Graham and Jeffress are a weak substitute for action. They should use their political friendship with Trump to help expedite reuniting all these youngsters and families as quickly as possible.

True evangelicals try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, a man who would be sickened by whatā€™s happened here, and would never have waited so long to speak up.

It is important to keep the humanity story going, even as the SFB cult/mob work to dehumanize everyone except white (lily white) men.Ā  The bastard will continue to use techniques which have been honed to perfection by those training troops and others to go into battle and kill the enemy against their natural abhorrence of killing fellow humans.

As he builds his internment camps, gulags, re-education camps or concentration camps, the dictator must be opposed and the fight to dethrone him must continue.

This story will not go away.Ā  He is trying to build “tent cities”, BS, torture camps in the deserts.

SFB is wasting billions of dollars to collect brown people into his camps.Ā  He must be stopped from this by the Congress and Judical branches.

Government agencies ask ā€œDo WHAT?ā€ In wake of doughturdā€™s EO surrendering his position on immigration.

The White Houseā€™s hastily crafted executive order to end child separations spurred confusion and fights within the federal government, and second-guessing from the president who had demanded the order in the first place.
Amid continuing fallout from the Trump administrationā€™s family separation policy, and a disjointed retreat earlier this week, senior officials met Friday to craft a plan for reuniting immigrant children with their parents or guardians, though it remained unclear how long that work will take.
* * *
Pentagon officials on Friday said the department was drawing up plans for housing migrants. The officials stressed that the plans were not finalized and had been drafted in case they were needed.
ā€œAt this time there has been no request from DHS for DOD support to house illegal migrants,ā€ Lt. Col. Jamie Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said in an email.
One draft memo prepared for the secretary of the Navy called for ā€œtemporary and austereā€ detention camps for up to 25,000 migrants on abandoned airfields in Alabama,Ā according to Time, which obtained a copy of the document.
The proposal also identifies a former naval weapons station near San Francisco and another facility at Camp Pendleton in southern California, each of which could house up to 47,000 people, Time reported.
White House officials were publicly silent on the executive order Friday, not taking questions as senior government officials huddled behind the scenes. Trump appeared with families of people killed by illegal immigrants and said the media should instead focus on those separations, which he calledĀ ā€œpermanent.ā€

Sorry for bandwidth gluttony but utter confusion canā€™t be quickly or easily explained.

Senators ‘deeply troubled’ military lawyers being used for immigration cases

Three senators, including one Republican, are asking the Pentagon to rethink its decision to send military lawyers to help prosecute immigration cases.
“For years, Congress has worked with the department on reforming the military justice system and providing the services with the resources to support the critical mission of promoting justice and maintaining good order and discipline within the armed forces,” Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary James Mattis on Thursday night.
“We are, therefore, deeply troubled by the department’s decision to send twenty-one active and reserve JAGs to the border on temporary orders to prosecute immigration cases,” they added.

News broke Wednesday night that the Pentagon had approved a request from the Justice Department to send 21 Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) to the U.S.-Mexico border to help clear a backlog of immigration cases.

Seems to me SFB is focused on lessening the wrong backlog. Repulsives keep yapping about asylum seekers just need to go to ports of entry to avoid separation from their kids. Sorry, I call bullshit. The asylum seekers just walked from Central America across Mexico. So instead of being turned back and directed to go to a port of entry (which could be hundreds of miles away and where they will be greeted with long lines of other asylum seekers and waits of days in some cases to assert their requests) when they attempt to cross elsewhere they are arrested. Seems to me there are at least two backlogs to address (1) a backlog of stupidity among BP personnel and (2) a backlog of immigration judges to hear asylum requests.

FYI from a may 2018 fact sheet at American Immigration Council:
Asylum is a protection granted to foreign nationals already in the United States or at the border who meet the international law definition of a ā€œrefugee.ā€ The United Nations 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol define a refugee as a person who is unable or unwilling to return to his or her home country, and cannot obtain protection in that country, due to past persecution or a well-founded fear of being persecuted in the future ā€œon account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.ā€ Congress incorporated this definition into U.S. immigration law in the Refugee Act of 1980.

As a signatory to the 1967 Protocol, and through U.S. immigration law, the United States has legal obligations to provide protection to those who qualify as refugees. The Refugee Act established two paths to obtain refugee statusā€”either from abroad as a resettled refugee or in the United States as an asylum seeker.

Rogen told CBS late night host Stephen Colbert that he was approached by two of Ryan’s kids after speaking at an event on brain health hosted by Mitt Romney.
Rogen said he took a photo with the kids, assuming they were simply “very nice fans,” until they said their dad wanted to meet him and he saw the Speaker walking toward him.
“My whole body puckered, I tensed up, and I didn’t know what to do,” he said, adding that Ryan came over and “grabbed [his] hand” before asking for a photo together.
“I look over and his kids are standing right there expectantly, clearly fans of mine, and I said, ‘No way, man!'” Rogen said.
“Furthermore, I hate what you’re doing to the country at this moment and I’m counting the days until you no longer have one iota of the power that you currently have,” Rogen said he told Ryan.
“I’m glad I didn’t take a picture with Paul Ryan, I touched him so I don’t know how I feel about that,” he said. “His kids seemed lovely, and very caucasian.”
In the interview with Colbert, Rogen also took the chance to criticize the Trump administration for detaining migrant children at the border, and praised his home country for legalizing recreational marijuana.
“This week Trump made prisons for kids, and Canada legalized recreational marijuana,” Rogen said. I don’t know if there’s an official grading system for the weeks a country has, but that was a good week for Canada.”

This week the 193 local news channels owned by The Sinclair Broadcasting Corporation informed their viewers that ā€œdishonest liberalsā€ were trying to fool them into thinking that the Trump administration had been separating migrant children from their families, in a cruel effort to deter migrant refugees from seeking asylum in the United States.

Sinclair stations reach nearly 40% of all American homes and it is owned and operated by right-wing Trump supporters. Recently the company has been heavily criticized for forcing its news anchors to read pre-written Trump propaganda on the air in order to keep their jobs.

And this past week Sinclair has forced all of its stations to provide propaganda in support of Trumpā€™s child separation practices and its zero tolerance immigration policies.
Former Trump spokesman Boris Epshteyn, who now works for Sinclair, prepared and read the following pro-Trump statement that was broadcast on all 193 Sinclair stations:

ā€œKatie sustained a fracture in her back and several broken ribs, as well as injuries that required Katie to undergo major surgery including the removal of a portion of her small intestine and a portion of her colon,ā€ the campaign spokesman said. ā€œAdditionally, the main artery in her legs has a partial collapse and will require a stent. Jack, like patd said. I will be sending all of the vibes that i can for your wife…and for you.

There is a lot of information about holistic healing, self, healing, diet for healing( which is the very first thing that needs to change- a raw ver diet along can go a long way to cure any kind of cancer. I know many way that can help….there are many herbs…super foods, plants etc that can make it go away.

Healthy fats that can be eaten that can give one all of th vitamins that one needs…protein included in them.

There is one super food (i use the powder form) that the largest whales in the ocean eat….this is all they eat….an animal that is larger than a football field eats an algae calledĀ  “Marine phytoplankton” has everything that one can live on for a long time…

This plant…..and very few people on earth know this…….this algae marine phytoplankton….provides about 93-95% of the world oxygen………most people think it the trees….but not so.

A gradual, steady change of life habits can cure us from any bad food (diet is the cause of almost all sickness) choices…..but if they are not done…poisons will make things much worse.

Chemotherapy does not work….only abut 2-3% of people that take this radiation will survive it.

You have me email…will give you my phone….if i can help, dont hesitate to call me.Ā  There are many things that can be done…specially in the early stages….

There are also machines that some drs use…vibration that can destroy the cancer….i have a small one that is call “Spooky” machine……there was a dr. Rife……that cured cancer with these vibrations….like when a voice vibration breaks a glass.Ā  The exact vibration and pitch makes the glass cumbust……the same can be applied to cancer causing cells….or anything thatĀ  is making us sick……i used it for my prostrate ….it was getting pretty high….now it very low….my va dr. dosent know what to make of it…….it told her that it was a change of diet…but left out the spooky machine……the dr will not even try to understand alternative healing in any shape or form…

There is soĀ  much that we can do…..there is meditation, there is mild yoga while sitting….did you know that there is a form of hand yoga that cures…builds up appetite, can help with pain, most anything…….i have books that help heal with “yoga-hand-mudras”Ā  they are like acupressure points…hand and foot reflexology…..but the most import ones to start with……are organic raw plants …use a blender for the full benefits…..

Sorry if this is interfering…..buena suerte

ps…just saw a cpl of the other u tubes on the side…the one with the chemotherapy nurse that quit …is a great one……later

Obama did not warn us did he….he knew about most of this….yet he kept quiet………oh thats right….he was the present-president…..

dont know if any dem or any one else has figured out a way to reunite these people…..they say that iit is very difficult………dont know if any one suggested this yet but:

Why dont they take each and every one that is incarcerated now…..and take each and every child that has been taken from their parents…….put them all in the same state……..in the same military base, or farm, or desert….and let them find each other….take the adults for long, long search walk….then…..the dems can help them separate the asylum seekers from the rest….get them to hear their case…..and take them to Florida with the rest of the asylum people are…..

OrĀ  take them to Puerto Rico (how is it that the dems wont let them vote for potus,or fight for them to vote) the can assimilate much better there no?

One last thing…..how many dems are talking about…e.everyday…..on how the fbi stole the election from Hilary?Ā  Comey addmitted …..we have an illegal president once again……i know….lets get Gore to get this done………Reason that this comment set me off…..is that it doesnt do anyone any good….just like blaming me or anyone that did not vote for Hilary does any good…….she lost it herself……sheĀ  and her staff had to know about russia….did she/her staff do anything about it…..ok im done……

Bloomberg:
New Yorkā€™s Trump Foundation Lawsuit May Be a Mueller PreviewĀ ā€“Ā Francis Wilkinson
ā€œFor a more prophetic vision of the future, you should read theĀ complaintĀ against Trump, his children and his foundation by New York State Attorney General Barbara Underwood.

ā€œWhy prophetic? Because itā€™s likely a preface to the report or complaint that special counsel Robert Mueller will bring. The alleged crimes described by Underwood are not similar to those being investigated by Mueller. But the behavior is.

ā€œOne stumbling block to public understanding of the Mueller probe, in addition to a steady stream of propaganda and lies designed to undermine it, is that itā€™s hard for even a cynic to accept the premises of what is being investigated.
ā€œU.S. history simply doesnā€™t offer a lot of reference points for a major-party political candidate who so casually subverts the law and sells out the nationā€™s highest values. How many Richard Nixons are there?

ā€œTo believe the accusations that TrumpĀ colludedĀ with Russia,Ā launderedĀ vast amounts of money and/or put American foreign policy on theĀ auctionĀ block in return for the enrichment of his family requires an awkward leap of faith. You have to believe this leader is both profoundly corrupt ā€“ far more so than Nixon ā€“ and staggeringly sloppy ā€“ again more so than Nixon.
ā€œThis isĀ essentially the portrait that Underwood paints in the detailed accusations against the head of the Trump Foundation: that of a shady huckster who engages in ā€˜persistently illegal conductā€™Ā and is buffoonishly sloppy along the way.ā€

the guardian:

A US clothing company is taking a sartorial swipe at Melania Trump, selling jackets bearing the slogan ā€œI really care, donā€™t you?ā€ in response to the ā€œI really donā€™t careā€ jacket the first lady wore to visit migrant children separated from their parents.

All proceeds from the jackets, selling for $98, will be donated to a Texas-based refugee and immigrant advocacy group, said Emma McIlroy, chief executive of the Wildfang clothing company in Portland, Oregon.

[ā€¦]
Wildfang had its version of the jacket, with its slogan on the back, for sale online the same day as the first ladyā€™s visit, McIlroy said.

ā€œI thought, ā€˜Why donā€™t we make the opposite jacket? Why donā€™t we make the jacket that does good in the world?ā€™ā€ she said.

The first batch of 100 military-style jackets sold out in an hour and a second batch sold just as quickly. The small, five-year-old clothing company is now taking requests for t-shirts and other emblazoned jackets, McIlroy said.
[ā€¦]
With sale of its jackets, Wildfang was more than halfway through its goal of raising $50,000 for the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (Raices) in San Antonio, Texas, McIlroy said.

Trumpā€™s version of the jacket was sold by the Spanish fashion chain Zara. A representative of Zara could not be reached immediately for comment.

Mike Huckabee accused of bigotry and racism after tweet touting Pelosi’s ‘campaign committee’ https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/23/politics/mike-huckabee-ms13-pelosi/index.html

While watching W. Kamau Bell’s Shades of AmericaĀ  – The Border (S3 E1), I really enjoyed his speaking to the people who actually live on the Border.Ā  They were like the ones I’ve always known in Arizona and New Mexico back when it was normal to walk back and forth.Ā  The Wall is hurting the US way more than it is hurting Mexico.

Give me a rumor of a great martini and I have to go hunting for the recipe.Ā  Unfortunately for the Connaught, it seems to be an in person experience

I was hoping Melania wouldnā€™t do or say anything very contemptible, because she seems relatively benign and it was nice to not have to hate everyone associated with this admin, but nope, sheā€™s as dull and vapid as the rest, it seems. Ā Womp womp.

…and so, remember, in two years, when people like me are being called ā€œbigotsā€ for trying to point out how dangerous and malicious the ā€œheartlandā€ voters who got us into this mess really are, the type of people they think fit to lord over us.

Jamie, my favorite was the one I made myself from Panamanian produced Beefeaters. It was on the rocks with a whisper of whatever vermouth was handy. It was stirred gently then finished off with a twist of native lemon. The ice did not drown the gin. I preferred mine in an old-fashion glass. The Panamanian Beefeaters was largely made of local ingredients–a unique product. The finished product fit the climate/ambience quite well.

My surmise on the jacket is that it was intended to keep her ‘meeting’ clothes fresh while getting on whatever airplane they put her on. The charming message? Probably intended as a morale booster for the enlisted ground crew that was put together for the mission. My guess is that she was horrified by it being shared with the world.

Ohboyohboyohboy. I got a campaign solicitation in the mail today from our own SFB, Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, complete with a free bumper sticker- it lets everyone know heā€™s Trump Endorsed. Isnā€™t that special?

Iā€™m guessing Mrs P has realized summer has arrived. She had me pick up margarita fixings on my way home from out messing about. Iā€™m in!

Anyone have an iPhone and know how to post a pic here taken from it?

A Martini is the cleanest drink to enjoy.Ā  Simplicity and ease of creation; you do not want to go too far which ends up being gin and something went wrong.

I have given the collection a little thought.Ā  I think I collect boats and booze or booze and boats.

I have almost every science fiction book I’ve ever read. ForĀ  while when I was young I would check them out of the library but then I found the used book store and haven’t been in a library in years. How many? about 120 linear feet worth. I’ve slowed down on the purchases in the last 10 years but still reread my collection. It is kind of interesting how I view a book as a youth, and adultĀ  and now as an older adult.
