here we go again
wapo:
“Yes, I am the most overrated, over-decorated and currently, I am the most over-berated actress … of my generation,” she said to laughs.
She noted that she wished she could simply stay home “and load the dishwasher” rather than take a podium to speak out — but that “the weight of all these honors” she’s received in her career compelled her to speak out.
“It’s terrifying to put the target on your forehead,” she said. “And it sets you up for all sorts of attacks and armies of brownshirts and bots and worse, and the only way you can do it is if you feel you have to. You have to! You don’t have an option. You have to.”
Streep did not elaborate on the type of attacks she may have been subjected to since her Globes speech, or from whom. The Associated Press reached out to her publicist for details. The term “brownshirts” was first used to describe an early Nazi militia.
so if a star feels like there’s a target on your forehead, how do you think a “dreamer” feels out there in deportation land?
more from streep speech:
Turning to Trump, she said: “But if we live through this precarious moment — if his catastrophic instinct to retaliate doesn’t lead us to nuclear winter — we will have much to thank this president for. Because he will have woken us up to how fragile freedom really is.”
The country has now learned, she said, “how the authority of the executive, in the hands of a self-dealer, can be wielded against the people, and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The whip of the executive can, through a Twitter feed, lash and intimidate, punish and humiliate, delegitimize the press and all of the imagined enemies with spasmodic regularity and easily provoked predictability.”
At the end, Streep made a passionate call for religious liberty — the right, as she said,” to live our lives with God or without Her.”
“All of us have the human right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” she said.
“If you think people were mad,” she closed, “when they thought the government was coming after their guns, wait until you see when they try to take away our happiness.”
sorry to ruin a glorious sunday with diatribes…. so back to happier thoughts like
“way to go, grampa jace!”
Aaaahhhh, starting Sunday morning with Ludwig Van. Wonderful. He opened my rock and roll heart to classical music and led me to Bach and Mozart. I owe him a great debt. Thanks for reminding me.
ROFLOL!!
variety: Newspaper Accidentally Uses Alec Baldwin ‘SNL’ Photo Instead of Donald Trump
Maybe Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impersonation is… too good?
Dominican newspaper El Nacional apologized on Saturday after mistakenly using a photo of Baldwin dressed as President Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” instead of the president himself.
The photo appeared in the paper next to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The photo “was placed as if it were the one of Trump,” the paper wrote. “El Nacional apologizes to the readers and to all those who felt affected by the publication.”
warning this is from uk daily mail soooo who knows…
Tom Arnold has claimed he was asked by Hillary Clinton’s camp to release a damning video of Donald Trump repeatedly saying ‘n*****’, just days before the election.
The comedian’s explosive claims are set to be heard on Sunday night’s episode of Australian reality TV show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on which Arnold is currently starring.
The 57-year-old last year told KIRO radio station he had ‘outtakes to The Apprentice where he (Trump) says every bad thing ever, every offensive, racist thing ever’.
And now Arnold has claimed just 48 hours before Americans went to the polls last November, he received a call from Democratic candidate Clinton’s camp asking him to release the video, the Daily Telegraph reports.
‘I had all the outtakes from Trump saying the N-word on The Apprentice,’ Arnold told his celebrity co-stars on the reality TV show.
‘She called me two days before the election and said “please release that”.
‘[She told me] the weight of the free world is on your shoulders,’ he said of the alleged discussion with a member of Clinton’s camp.
Despite having known President Trump for close to 30 years, Arnold was a staunch opponent of his during the election race.
However he reveals he declined Clinton’s offer, fearing he would do more harm than good and that he didn’t ‘think people would care’.
‘I’d love to be a hero, but I can’t hurt these families,’ Arnold claims he told Clinton’s team.
In December last year Arnold said he would have released the video – which is said to include Trump calling his son a r***** – before the election but did not have approval of producers who made it and gave it to him.
Jace, Congrats!
and thanks for the Beethoven…. my favorite composer…
Congrats Jace!
another celebration, I flew up this weekend to enjoy David’s 50th with family and friends
Many, happy returns!
One thing I question about Streep’s statement. How do Trump’s tweets delegitimize the press or anyone else, for that matter? He’s tweeting to the converted.
The press delegitimized itself by choosing to chase shiny objects and editorializing everything, rather than doing hard, investigative journalism and covering stories in an unbiased manner. The messenger deserves to be attacked for falling down in the job, but tweets are so much fluff.
If Trump gets his news from social media & headline news, he can be manipulated by someone other than Pooh-T and Bannon.
Stevil BananaNazi was, again, played by the Grim Reaper, last night. That’s probably better casting than O’Donnell.
The Kellyarse & Jake Tapper piece was spot on.
Thanks all for the good wishes. It’s been amazing, still can’t quite believe it.?
Craig,
great picture.
David,
Wishing you many more.
The photo “was placed as if it were the one of Trump,” the paper wrote. “El Nacional apologizes to the readers and to all those who felt affected by the publication.”
patd,
notice that the paper uses the word affected as opposed to offended. Very subtle. Like you I laughed my ass off and was in no way offended. Trump is too awful and Baldwin is just too good.
Hey! Jim Webb on MTP.
At least Bernie says he understands that folks are leaving the Dem party because it no longer speaks to many of us, but to the 1%. If the DNC had understood that last year…but it is what it is.
Anxiously awaiting the release of the new film “Alternative Facts” starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin. A blockbuster in the making.
Happy Birthday, David ! Big hugs to you.
Tardy, but heartfelt, congratulations to Jamie and Jace ! May your descendants always bring you pride and joy.
Webb on MtP ?!? Whaddie do, write an ode to pitchfork ben ?
David…. Happy, happy birthday!
now you can become a member of AARP….
nbc: Full Webb Interview: ‘There is an Aristocracy’ in American Politics
Sun, Feb 12
Former Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) joins Meet the Press to talk about what Democrats need to do in order to win back large parts of the electorate.
The Stephen Miller Ban on tour! this morning. “Sean Spicer is, as always, 100% correct.” Man, strong stuff in that WH, trash can, Koolaid.
Webb did not say he would not run for an office, again.
It’s not news that democrats need a message. I’m not sure I heard Webb offer any specifics about what the message should be. Hard to win back working folk when there aren’t any left and after four years of Trump there will be fewer still.if places like Flint Michigan are anticipating some sort of Renaissance as a result of Donald Trump, they are in for a rude awakening.
Webb is correct there is an aristocracy in politics that has not responded to the needs and concerns of average folks, but you don’t replace an aristocracy with total incompetences and call it a success.
Please don’t spit on my cupcake and tell me it’s frosting.
BID
The problem on the Democratic side is that all the splinters are leaving the party whereas with the GOP the splinters moved in and took over the party. Like it or not, this country always has two parties. Any time a third or fourth comes along, it weakens the one they split from and either that party gets eliminated and replaced (Whigs to Republican) or the branch dies off or becomes so minor as to be unelectable (Socialist back to Democrat)
We lost because the Bernie & Stein people weakened the Democratic party so badly it couldn’t win in areas that were already weakened by economics. I’m still totally pissed at Bernie with the constant ego petting tweets while still attacking Democrats instead of actually DOING anything. But he is very good at doing nothing but praising himself for the past 40 years.
Mr.Webb is correct. If Hillary had been elected there would be all sorts of gnashing of teeth about ethics, emails, revolving door administrations, trust etc.etc.ad nauseum.
But there would one significant difference. 2.6 million votes and the legitimacy derived from them.
Adding my congrats to Jace on the first grandchild. My first is in her 30s now, but know just how he feels about falling in love. Don’t tell anyone but the Incredible T is still my favorite. 🙂
Jace
Not a grandparent myself but Mr Cracker has 6 ranging in ages from 3-36
the older they get the more fun they are
Is the r***** the source for the rumors of Barron being autistic? If true, it would be horrid for a child to be raised or even influenced by a father like that when so many are brilliant and talented if given the right help and encouragement.
Congratulations, Jace. Joy is to be savored. Didn’t Matisse address this?
Jamie,
Thank you! Great picture.
I was in no way prepared for the depth of emotion that I’m feeling just now,but oh my am I enjoying it. So looking forward to watching this little man grow up and am so incredibly happy for mom and dad. They just glow.
It’s February, it’s 71 degrees outside, and I’m wearing dark glasses.
I think I may just do the math.
You’re still pissed at Bernie, but this was the arrogance of Clinton & the DNC. The only message she had was that it was her turn…until she decided to co-opt Bernie’s platform because she had nothing to offer except more of the same. It wasn’t enough. She was never going to win. Bernie could’ve beat Trump. Michigan would’ve voted for Bernie, as would others whose concerns he addressed. It is what it is.
The Dems either need to evolve, move to the left, and stop only being a voice for corporate America, or, they can continue to lose ground.
It was 88 here yesterday. The last time that happened, Harding was Prez.

Jamie – Politico thinks she’ll run in 2020.
There are people out there who are firmly convinced that dtrump is going to turn them loose and they can start shooting people. Most of them are also convinced that they are the only ones who have guns and know how to use them, but that’s just a part B,
they also, perhaps, fail to realize that the GOP will become enmeshed in a bitter struggle between Left Republicans and Right Republicans.
Sad.
And the Romans are thinking: Been there, done that.
mrdoodlesdog,
Joy is to be savored indeed. Matisse addressed it very well.I remember that garden from my youth.Probably had something to do with how Cheryl and I ended up with three children. Oh but what a time it was.? And like so many things, gone all too soon.
She won’t run again in 2020. If anyone had bothered to actually cover her get togethers with voters at one on ones which she did best rather than the Trump/Bernie fan clubs or read & reported on her policy papers, they would have noticed that Bernie was stealing her ideas not the other way around. But that was then, this is now. We need younger candidates all the way around from the ground up. The party needs to win in 2017 & 2018 to have the power to offset Trump if he is still around or Pence if he moves up after Trump goes bye bye as fast as possible.
How The Lunatic Fringe Conquered World Politics
The left and the right ignored the extremists and we ended up with Brexit and Trump
Happy Birthday to David & also to Mr. Lincoln 🙂
I was cleaning the deck and my beard fell off.
Sturgeone,
And a mighty fine *beard* it was … we hardly knew ye. RIP.
Jamie, bet it was don jr, not barron, he referred to as r*****
btw
🙂 breaking news 🙂 from the wrap: Sorry, Sean Spicer: Ivanka Admitted Donald Trump ‘Wears a Pink Bathrobe’ Back in 2006
Bathrobe truthers rejoice: Ivanka Trump confessed on “The Apprentice” in 2006 that her father “wears a pink bathrobe.”
The candid disclosure, which Ivanka volunteered to contestant Lee Bienstock, re-emerged online after White House spokesman Sean Spicer tried to discredit a New York Times report by claiming the president “definitely doesn’t” wear a bathrobe.
A clip of the segment (below) circulated online Saturday, and TheWrap has watched and confirmed that it came from a season 5 episode entitled “Who Wears the Pants?”
eyebrows still raised at sean insisting he doesn’t wear one…. perhaps he doesn’t wear anything when spicie’s there.
wapo: SNL trolls Trump hard by having more women play his male advisers — and him
Politico reported that “it was Spicer’s portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the president’s eyes, according to sources close to him.”
SNL’s response to that? Have more women play members of Trump’s team — and even Trump himself.
This week’s reprise of its Spicer news briefing sketch, as Elahe Izadi notes, features Kate McKinnon playing Attorney General Jeff Sessions. And later in the show is a prerecorded sketch about Leslie Jones’s desire to be SNL’s long-term Trump impersonator when Alec Baldwin isn’t available.
Quick question, aside from BenCarson, are there any minorities in the Trump administration?
Clinton’s shitty campaign and republican cheating put trump in the WH.
Blaming Bernie for the Clinton campaign failure is like blaming Gary Hart for Mondale’s loss in 1984.
Her team failed her. Move on, please.
Mrs MitchMcConnell is Asian
1. The worst campaign I ever worked on was a mayoral race that could and should have been a landslide victory. However the candidate insisted on running as the ‘education mayor’ because education was the biggest issue that year and the candidate’s biggest supporter was a teachers’ union.
The public wasn’t fooled. They know that the superintendent runs the schools. If she’d stressed the lousy job norm coleman jr. did plowing snow and repairing the streets she could have won in a landslide. Instead she lost in a landslide. She could also have destroyed norm’s path to the US Senate.
2. Clinton won the Bernie wing of the Dems by an enormous landslide. However, her campaign & messages failed to interest most of the Indies. Most of the Indies are female, and even they weren’t engaged, let alone excited, by the campaign.
Mrs midget is a de-natured Taiwanese.
Jace, they are all minorities. Every one of them is a 1%-er.
My sister’s next door neighbors have 2 flags flying on their flagpole.
One is the American flag.
The other flag says: Trump 2016: No More Bullsh-t”
Classy! Happy Birthday to David!
Someone on Twitter said that Stephen Miller happens when you are rejected by every woman in the world.

all one percenters, well that’s ok I mean one percenters are a very diverse groupe. Right?
Yes, Jace. And they also all know people who own nascar teams, so they are in the mainstream of American culture.
: “Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft, where we are hard, cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand.”

renee, having worked in elections in nh, how credible is this charge that Everybody’s aware of the problem in New Hampshire?
from realclearpolitics’ transcript of steph’s show with miller:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me move on, though, to the question of voter fraud as well. President Trump again this week suggested in a meeting with senators that thousands of illegal voters were bused from Massachusetts to New Hampshire and that’s what caused his defeat in the state of New Hampshire, also the defeat of Senator Kelly Ayotte.
That has provoked a response from a member of the Federal Election Commission, Ellen Weintraub, who says I call upon the president to immediately share New Hampshire voter fraud evidence so that his allegations may be investigated promptly.
Do you have that evidence?
MILLER: I’ve actually, having worked before on a campaign in New Hampshire, I can tell you that this issue of busing voters in to New Hampshire is widely known by anyone who’s worked in New Hampshire politics. It’s very real, it’s very serious. This morning on this show is not the venue for me lay out all the evidence, but I can tell you this. Voter fraud is a serious problem in this country. You have millions of people who are registered in two states, who are dead who are registered to vote, and you have 14 percent of non-citizens, according to academic research, at a minimum, are registered to vote. Which is an astonishing statistic.
STEPHANOPOULOS: You can’t — hold on a second. You just claimed again that there was illegal voting in New Hampshire, people bused in from the state of Massachusetts. Do you have evidence of that?
MILLER: I’m saying anybody — George, go to New Hampshire. Talk to anybody who’s worked in politics there for a long time. Everybody’s aware of the problem in New Hampshire with respect to —

Plan to save humanity UNDER ATTACK!! & #Grammy awards given go-ahead to bash #Trump – Tune in LIVE 4pm-6pm CT:infowars.com/show
Ha! Bernie copied Clinton? What a Sean Spicer/Kellyarse way to try to turn it around. A ridiculous statement. Up is down, too.
Patd, Miller’s an arrogant puke. I lived in NH for 6 years. The bussing in from MA is stupid. Half of southern NH works in MA, or did when I lived there and half of MA came to NH on weekends. Southern NH was a bit of a bedroom community of reasonably priced real estate within driving distance of the MA tech areas around Boston.
They probably think I’m way too old……I mean, my beard’s falling off and shit…….
John Fugelsang & Frank Conniff do a “Donald Trump is So Racist joke off”
Too old? Probably would think that but they would be wrong
I guess they think boomers are all in bed by then
Pogo,
Not to worry. Those bus loads of voters are probably the very same people who danced in the New Jersey streets after 9/11and also the ones responsible for the recent terrorist attacks in Atlanta. Those folks sure do get around.
Geez, what kinda day you gonna have if you really feel that the Plan to Save Humanity is under attack?
Corey – Stephen Miller does have an air of Niedermeyer about him.
Jace, and the perpetrators of the Bowling Green massacre. Morons.
Patd, re your 354 comment, yes, and dtrumpf thinks his farts smell oh so sweet. Jesus this is going to be an interminable 4 years.
Ive decided that twitter is the perfect medium for dtrumpf. Few words, no need to spell well.
Jace, congrats on the first grandkid–enjoy! Really enjoyed the Beethoven; IMO beats the Grammys 🙂
Caught episode 7 of the Young Pope and it was sensitive and excellent. Now I have to apologize for original harsh opinion, go back and give it another chance.
BB, saw your comment about phono inputs reappearing on current receivers–’bout darn time. I’m so tired of buying used equipment so that I can 5+1 w/phono. Don’t throw away your preamp until you verify the RIAA compensation in the new equipment–young people probably won’t have the foggiest, but, our ears will.
Pearl Harbor was just attacked by the Mexican cartels. A number of battleships were sunk, including the Arizona, Utah, and Oklahoma.
Of course it’s true. Anyone who has worked Pearl Harbor for years will tell you it’s true. Just ask stephen miller.
This attack underlines the need for a wall to prevent cartels from crossing the Rio Grande steaming into Pearl Harbor.
Thousands of illegal Syrians were bused in to the Grammy voting . . . .
