  1. If you look around the table and can’t spot the mark—the mark is you……

    —Sock-Eye Walsh, Myrtle Beach, c. 1973.
Gambler of note, the kind which was so brilliantly written about in that sublime story by Wm. Price Fox

  2. So how many white working class folks are there any more? and really  how many of them will sober up and vote?

Most of the ones who will vote are the old Reagan Democrats who switched to the Republican party years ago and  no there is no place in the Democratic party for most of them and I don’t think the Democratic party should be expected to accommodate their beliefs.
    As to the younger ones………..

the world knows if you are going to get ahead you have to get advanced education of some sort, yet young white males are doing so less and less. But they don’t want to hear that as they might be to blame for the shit hole they find themselves in. it is oh so much easier to blame those Mexicans.

I can see it in my own family the nephews & nieces who went to schooling beyond HS are doing well. the ones who didn’t are working at low wage dead end jobs.

    Jack

  3. Will Biden plagiarize his speech, again?  (winky face)

The DNC & the Clintons conspiring to keep corporations in power.  Well, it’s more than a little evil-y.

I guess you can call the party unified since many of them have decided to DemExit.

Did they ever find out who killed poor, Seth Rich, the young man in charge of the DNC’s voter expansion?

Jill Stein is growing the Green Party from disheartened Berniecrats.

My glasses work just fine.  They aren’t fooled by smoke & mirrors…or gender.   The content of her character is despicable.  It’s sad Hill is getting a pass just because she’s a she.

  4. All of this talk about guns tonight reminds me of how guns have flooded our country.  The musical West Side Story had a big fight scene with with knives.  Big book of the era among religious circles:  The Switchblade and the Cross. My stepfather was a sheriff and never thought anything of hanging his gun belt on the dining room chair.  No one would ever touch it but him.  I only got to use it at a target range, but otherwise only hunters had rifles.

Even the Watts riots weren’t fought with guns.  Now we accept the fact that about 300 people are going to die every day in our towns via firearms.

  5. Blue

Hillary isn’t getting elected because of vaginas unless you believe the previous 44 were elected by pricks.

  6. I never liked getting stabbed. Thank goodness for hard ribs and tough pleura.

    A shot prolly would’ve gone right through. Although . . . .

A pal’s dad tried to commit suicide and the bullet was a half dud. It had just enough power to lodge the bullet in his forehead. It gave him one helluva headache.

  7. The best of them all is “Southern Fried”

or maybe “Razor Fight at the St. Louis Bar and Grill”.   No wait……”The B-Flat Cornet”

or well I can never decide…..

  8. Seth Rich:  SNOPES

Sorcha Faal is the alleged author of an ongoing series of “reports” published at WhatDoesItMean.com, whose work is of such quality that even other conspiracy nutters don’t think much of it.

  9. Blue, I beg to differ with you …. H is not getting any sort of pass due to her gender.  She has had to work 10 times harder than any man would have had to, or even actually would have, to become what she has become.  Like her character or not, she is intelligent, does not worship or want to be a dictator, has spent her life trying to improve the lives of the disenfanchised and and persons who haven’t had it quite as good as the rest of us.  Her hatred of her by so many is really hard for me to understand.

  10. I watched a little bit of Fox earlier … O’reilly was having a joyfest pointing out that Maddow did not like Bill’s speech last night, of course he refused to say her name, but he was loving his interpretation of why she was critical of his speech … that b/c Bill used the word “girl” to refer to H ….. I also heard Lou Dobbs state that T’s invitation today to the Russians to engage in espionage he found “humuros.”  I wonder if that would have been the reaction if H had made such a suggestion, perhaps that they hack into the IRS website and get us copies of his tax returns!!

  11. Just so you all know …. I can actually spell better than I can type!

  12. No, that’s wrong…. The best one is “Hair of the Dog”

the purest gem of southern story telling about the star pitcher of the local Columbia sandlot baseball team who has to be drunk to pitch……Drunk, he lays em down, one, two, three…….The onliest catch is that they can’t let him get drunk on Friday night

with a hangover oy, no pitchee

  13. Jamie,

    July 27, 2016 at 8:56 pm

Damn, girl, you are dead on.

Blue, I call BULLSHIT. The small conference room at the Holiday Inn Express in North Dallas will be plenty big to accomodate the Texas Green party contingent. Enjoy the buffet.

  14. Biden: “There is only one person in this race who will be there, who’s always been there for you, and that’s Hillary Clinton’s life story.”

  15. He might have had a chance at the nomination this time around if he had campaigned like that!!

  16. “Loving the country as it is, while wanting it to get better, is the new democratic platform thanks to Trump”  .. Chris Mathews

  17. When Bill Clinton ran in ’92 I voted for him. By 1996, I had moved to Holland which is heavily Republican. People here acted as though ALL Democrats were bad. My sister basically felt that Clinton was the worst president in our country’s history and she didn’t see how ANYONE could vote for him again. So, I listened to all the negativity and I said, “Well, I can’t vote for Clinton, but I don’t wanna vote for Dole, either. So, I voted for Ross Perot. I ended up thinking that I wasted my vote in ’96.

  18. Anone else see the delicious irony of a black mayor of Atlanta  (and Birmingham )?

  19. Biden on electing Trump: “We simply cannot let that happen, as Americans. Period.”

  20. Michael Bloomberg endorsing HRC: “We must unite around the candidate who can defeat a dangerous demogogue.”

  21. “Trump wants to run the nation like he’s running his business.  God help us!  I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one.”  (Mayor Bloomberg)

  22. The contrast between last week and this week is startling.  I am quite curious as to what the polling bounce will be early next week.  I would not be surprised to see H get a 10 pt bump over Trump (although I feel things will settle down a bit (and get closer) until the fall campaign is in full swing and we have some debates).

  23. “The richest thing about Donal Trump is his hypocrisy.”  (Mayor B)

  24. Michael Bloomberg on Trump: “I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one.”

  25. Bloomberg.  Mrs. P says he’s a class act.   I tend to agree.  .

Corey, I meant it.  Now get your ass back here and weigh in demmit.

  26. Bink, hope you’ve got plenty of tip change. Obama coming up: Best Speech Ever!!!

  27. Bloomberg is a much more compelling speaker than the last former mayor of New York that spoke at the republican convention.

  28. Craig I agree – I think Obama will not disappoint!

I’m sure tomorrow we’ll hear “he’s a loser – going down the tubes”.

  29. Been watching tonight on Cspan…. Much more enjoyable without the talking heads.

  30. RR,

Live streaming the DNC feed. No pundits no commentary and the picture is superb. Thank you chrome cast!

  31. Attorneymaryjane,  great minds… btw, if I say AMJ or amj it’s you I am addresing, being constitutionally lazy. Glad to see you here.

  32. Renee , Jace Cspan the only choice was really pissed at PBS the other night in our hotel room when they cut to talking heads in the middle of Cory Booker’s speech

    I’m live  streaming it  too.

    Jack

  33. Michele Obama, Corey Booker, and Joe Biden gave three of the best political speeches that I have ever heard. Oh. My. MmMmMm.

  34. I’m sensing some Hubert Humphrey in Tim Kaine — a nerdy, lovable Happy Warrior

  35. HHH spoke faster & with higher pitch. That upbeat nerdy sunniness is pure HHH. And HHH never forgot a face or name. Kaine reminded me of this last when he dropped Sanders’ name.

  36. We must love our neighbors as ourselves. You didn’t hear that at the Official Christian Party Convention, did you ?

  37. Kaine on Trump “Does anybody here believe he’s paying his fair share of taxes.”

  38. Kaine: “You cannot believe one word that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth.”

  39. I believe that he could face Trump in a debate — like if maybe Hillary had laryngitis —- and wipe the floor with T.

I am liking his toughness and “telling it like it is.”

  40. Hillary is lista …. prepared, battle-tested, rock solid!  amen brother, tell it Kaine

  41. Who knew that this nice guy could turn into such an attack dog while still staying likable

  42. …tried to post the image of Nick giving out wings in Martini’s Bar for you.  Technical difficulties.

  43. Pogo,

thats what i have been saying for the past year: im not voting for Hillary, im voting for the country…..

The placebo affect: AMazing………..later thank all

  44. Hillary knows what’s at stake when decisions have to be made … she listens, she never quits, she treats people with respect …..

  45. Obama on HRC: “I had a front row seat to her intelligence, her judgment and her discipline.  I came to realize her unbelievable work ethic wasn’t for praise or attention. But that she was in this for everyone who needs a champion.”

  46. Obama: “There has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody — more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as President of the United States.”

  47. good comparison of how black parents and police families feel when the walk out of the house.

  48. Obama: “We are going to carry Hillary to victory this Fall because that’s what the moment demands.”

  49. Solar, whoever you vote for, I know you’re voting for the country  ( unless you’re voting for trump – in which case you’re votin for stipid).

  50. Thumbs up to the three surviving Democratic Presidents for their heartfelt, inspiring messages & support they are giving their candidate. The GOP had Bob Dole at their hoedown. Oh Good Lord Help Us.

  51. “18 years ago I left Dayton, Ohio with two very bad knees, and a dream to become a major league baseball player.  I thank God that dream came true “

  52. I can’t put W & the dumbf on stage together like Obama & Clinton. There appears to be genuine affection between them ( Obama and Clinton, that is)

  53. Ok, don’t worry, HRC doesn’t need the speech of her life, tomorrow, she’ll own the debates.  If her opponent isn’t tried and hanged for treason before that, of course.

  54. Britt Hume says it was powerful. That he was best when he was critical of Trump, even ridiculing him.

  55. Juan Williams on Fox is saying we have had a number of inspiring speeches this week.  The audience has been greatly touched.

  56. Another amazing night for Democrats.. Obama,,wonderful avocate for Hilary and the Dems. What a fine person and President..

    Solar

Glad your back..Your thinking is always deep and insightful, thanks for sharing.

Oh and thanks for the b day wish..

    Jack, nice to read you..

  57. Chris Mathews says HRc will have to play catch up tomorrow night after all these great speeches.

  58. Obama: “Now I’m ready to pass the baton and do my part as a private citizen.. Reject cynicism and reject fear.. Elect Hillary Clinton.”

  59. Damn but that man can give a speech.

I loved the theme for tonight.

“America is a great country and it is the people who make her great”

    A very positive night

    Very Reaganesque.

    Jack

  60. IMO Kaine started out slow but got into the swing of things and did some good stuff.

In all a very entertaining night, I hope the ratings reflect that.

    Jack

  61. We both know that wasn’t Obama’s best, but he said all the right things.   It’s good to be moved.  Thanks for the yuks.

  62. Newt is opining  that the speech was full of lies but the left wing crowd is going to believe all of them. He also says Obama’s speech is not going to help Hillary!

  63. I usually watch CNN … Gloria Borger always seems fair even we don’t agree.

  64. Oh, one more thing:  I hear that the Republican candidate will be receiving CIA intelligence briefings, soon?

That cannot happen.  He is an enemy of the State.  Someone, please prevent that.

  65. Bink

For the  time place and the constraints he was under as president it was damn good.

As to his best ever , well he has given some damn good speeches.

    Jack

  66. Twetty is as always wrong. HRC does not need to give a great speech. She needs to find her voice and her comfort zone.

The others have set the table, she need only fill the plates. No doubt she is up to the task.

  67. The pres. had a lot of boxes to check tonight. I think that he got them all. Was especially pleased with the way he included Bernie and his supporters. It was a long time coming but it was skillfully done.

  68. When two foes become allies it is not usually about friendship or love. It is about respect. It is obvious that Obama and Hillary have great respect for one another. Those pictures spoke volumes.

Thought Bill was the happiest person in the room tonight.

  69. When I want reasoned thoughtful analysis, I turn to ‘Trailmix’. The place to go for politics.

  70. Well, i just re-watched all the speeches from last night, and if i didn’t know any better, i would have thought it was a night at the Republican National Convention.  Very hawkish tone.

Kaine was the most effective speaker, in my opinion.  He was relatable in a folksy way, respected the audience, and hammered his points home.

  71. “Oh, one more thing:  I hear that the Republican candidate will be receiving CIA intelligence briefings, soon?
That cannot happen.  He is an enemy of the State.  Someone, please prevent that.”  – Bink

    Wisdom worth repeating.

  72. The Dems ate the spectrum of political discourse, from the far out left to the center right. That leaves the rippers with a thin crescent of crust dangling off the far right of the plate.

It’s the best convention ever, and it came in the nick of time.

  73. It’s going to be interesting to see how the press covers this over the next few months.  They like to paint the picture of a ‘razor-thin’, head-to-head match-up so people will tune in.  In 2012 you would have thought Romney had a chance of winning if you weren’t reading the polls.  Same thing will happen this year with the Republicans buying into their self hypnotism.  Remember when Karl Rove went apespit when Fox called it for Obama?

The press is going to have to be very careful this year in building up Trump so the race is close; lest they look like fools.

  74. The body language and awkward verbiage between the Sanders brothers left me with the impression that Bernie was estranged from his family very early on–like in his teen years.

  75. Now is the time for the real journalists to separate themselves from the camp-followers.
