Biden: Dems Not Talking To White, Working Class Voters

Duh?

Preview of his speech tonight?

VP Joe Biden on “white working class voters” to MSNBC today: “I think the Democratic party overall hasn’t spoken enough to those voters. They’ve done the right thing for the voters — haven’t spoken to them.”

  1. Thanks for grabbing that vid, PatD. Dems should pay attention to what he is saying.

  2. Craig,

That is what i meant by saying that these new convention speeches are all about the speaker…..and not about the voters….I felt that when people like Anne Richards Mario Coumo and a few others did include me….and gave me hope for us all…….you know, i did feel it when Dr Dean spoke tho….later

  3. putin pimp, deadbeat trump, will not release his tax returns. Campaign manager paul manafort explained that Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and Forbes are too fucking dumb to understand
    1. how the deadbeat’s many YUUUJE donations to really great causes failed to show up in his tax returns.
    2. how payments for prostituted women, hush money, and marijuana are business expenses.
    3. what’s up with all the russian beef and wine imports.
    4. how $10 B!LL!ON came to be written up as $25 million.
    5. how a reeeally, reeeally, successful businessman can owe more in taxes than he has in assets.
For these five reasons deadbeat donald’s tax returns will remain secret until the bankruptcy filing.

  4. To be fair…  Bill Clinton did mention last night about displaced coal miners and how he was sent to W. Virginia to tell them that if Hillary won the election she would be coming to help them.  But so far…  neither side has campaigned much on job creation (I discount Trump’s “wall building”).

Jim Carville’s cry, “it’s the economy, stupid”, still applies today.  So yeah….  it’d be great to see Biden in his “giving em hell” best tonight talking about the working middle class.

  5. bink, i usually gird my loins with bacon, season with rosemary, thyme, and garlic and then roast or grill to the stage of crusty exterior and a succulent pink interior.  maybe accompany the medallions thereof with portabellas, asparagus and buttered potatoes.

  6. pence got his twopence in too:

“This FBI will get to the bottom of who is behind the hacking. If it is Russia and they are interfering in our elections, I can assure you both parties and the United States government will ensure there are serious consequences,” Donald Trump’s running mate said in a statement.

  7. wistv:

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg will offer a forceful denunciation of fellow New York billionaire Donald Trump Wednesday at the Democratic convention.

The speech is notable in part because Bloomberg was elected mayor as a Republican but is now a political independent. He considered making a third-party run for president this year before opting against a campaign. He said he worried he would siphon away votes from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and inadvertently help elect Trump.

Members of the former mayor’s staff said Bloomberg, one of the nation’s richest individuals, will lay out why a Trump administration would be disastrous for the nation’s economy.

  8. also from above link:

Democratic Senate challengers seem to think they’ve found a campaign issue in Donald Trump’s remarks urging Russia to find thousands of emails missing from Hillary Clinton’s private computer server.

Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate Katie McGinty called on incumbent Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Pat Toomey to denounce Trump. She said in a statement that the Republican presidential candidate was “inviting Russia to wage a cyberattack against our country.”

In Arizona, Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick is trying to unseat veteran GOP Sen. John McCain. Kirkpatrick campaign spokesman D.B. Mitchell says Trump wants Russia “to hack his political opponents” and is asking, “This is the guy John McCain wants to be our next president?”

Spokespeople for the Toomey and McCain campaigns did not immediately return requests for comment.

  9. that accusation “Dems Not Talking To White, Working Class Voters” is not accurate considering what we’ve been seeing and hearing at the convention.  dems have all along been/are/will be talking to white women.

maybe the charge should be amended to read Dems Not Talking To White MALE, Working Class Voters. [the majority of whom probably wouldn’t vote for Hillary anyway no matter how much they’re talked to]

  10. A slight modification may be in order : “Dems Not Talking ENOUGH To White, Working Class Voters”

More jobs, better wages/salaries, improved schools, apprehension of secret russian agents, and better ‘reality’ tv are the subjects that Dems should address.

  11. Nope PatD, dems dramatically lost both men and women white vote in 2014. Don’t blame this on men. Biden is correct to raise this issue. Dems ignore this at their peril.

  12. Xrep…  lol…

The right tries to divide us along racial lines….    now the left wants to divide us along gender lines.  I say… screw all this dividing… unless you are a mathematician.  I’m gonna try to appeal to my better angels in this election and only divide us along Red Sox and Yankee fans lines…  😉

  13. So, here’s the challenge: the heroes of the Women’s Suffrage movement have to be made relatable to female millenial progressives.  Essentially, Susan B. Anthony needs to be equated to the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  No small task.

  14. Dems aren’t talking enough about the concerns of female white working women. Access to quality schools, better employment opportunity, safety (public and domestic, food and water, cyber and privacy), the cost of living & the cost of dying, are all vital topics, yet are pretty much ignored. For instance, a convention speaker, or the candidate, could say that cutting the cost of marijuana suppression in half would free up ten times the resources for prosecuting rapists. THAT would speak to women’s vital concerns.

  15. Renee, I’ll boo the NY steinbrenners, if you’ll boo the Chi (fdba St Paul Saints) white sox.

  16. Hey, Jace………gas is very cheap at the gas pump. Whose fault is that huh?  around 2.05 at cost-co…..still high if you ask me…..but a lot better than 4.oo per……

  17. Red Sox great Ted Williams was briefly a St Paul Saint, but that team was a successor to the one enslaved and trafficked by the evil comiskey.

  18. Don’t buy gas yet, Solar ! The price of oil (WTI) is still falling. $41.88 right now, after the days low of $41.66. Maybe $40/bbl by Friday, and $1.85 at the pump. I hope.

So far we’ve seen a drop of more than $10.00 since May. It could reach $26.00 again this by columbus Day.

Parenthetically, this could have a terrific effect on the election in the media identified swing states of AZ, NM, CO, MO, IA, WI, MI, OH, PA, NH, VA, NC, GA, and FL.

  19. I personally think that for presidential race purposes, the swing states are AZ, MO, OH, VA, NC, GA, and FL.

  20. Sounds good XR, why is no one talking about this…..its obamas fault right?….but wait, what are the poor oil men going to do? what is wall street to do about all of this loss$$$$$$$$$$…..a little bit more cash for food and maybe an occasional night out for some people cant be all that bad…….let er RIP……

  21.  Solar, as I understand it, having read transcripts of the r n c speeches, everything is now Clinton’s fault. President Obama is no longer a person of interest.

Strawberries aren’t as tasty as they were when we were kids. A movie on Saturday afternoon is no longer 5c. The Boston Braves suck, and they aren’t even in Boston. Todays shrimp are really shrimpy. Staying up until 9 is no longer thrilling. Hillary is to blame for it all.

  22. That cheap gallon of gas is crippling economies across the globe, destabilizing governments, exacerbating poverty and starvation, and might help start WW3.

  23. Bink, you are clearly into clarity of vision today.  (I read “The Girl…” 3 weeks ago.) Tough act to follow.  SBA fits the bill.  And yes, falling crude prices do cripple countries whose economies are base on petro sales.  And by all means, dinner at Patd’s place.

  24. Bernie peeled off a lot of younger, female voters.  Most seem to be saying they’re going Green.

As for the Russians, maybe they were the hackers, maybe they weren’t. “At this point, what does it matter?”

The Dems furor over being hacked is just an attempt to deflect.  The bank robbers are blaming the witnesses for telling the authorities.  Lest anyone forget, we, the people, are the authorities in this country. Hillary & the DNC didn’t think so.  They will find out how wrong they were in November.

  25. From Phil Rucker, et al.  at WaPo on the newest trump Russia kerfuffle:

Trump has repeatedly tried to do business in Russia, and Russian investors have been important to his real estate empire, particularly in recent years.

In 2008, Trump’s son Donald Jr. told a real estate conference in New York that Russians constitute “a pretty disproportionate cross-section” of Trump’s real estate assets. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia,” he added.

According to litigation filed in Florida, Trump’s partners on a Panama project traveled to Moscow in 2006 to sell condos to Russian investors. Trump also sold a mansion in Palm Beach in 2008 for $95 million to Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev; he had purchased the home at a bankruptcy auction four years earlier for $41.4 million.

Trump has also sought to build a tower in Moscow numerous times since the late 1980s, when he said he had a deal to explore a Trump project in partnership with the Soviet government. His most recent effort came after a Putin ally, Aras Agalarov, known as the Trump of Russia, paid Trump millions to bring the Miss Universe pageant to Moscow in 2013. Agalarov has told The Washington Post that he inked a preliminary deal to bring a Trump project to the Russian capital.

“We will be in Moscow at some point,” Trump promised in a 2007 deposition.

Trump Organization General Counsel Alan Garten also outlined the company’s interest in Russia to The Post in May. “We’re always looking to expand and do projects all over the world. I have no doubt, as a company, I know we’ve looked at deals in Russia. And many of the former Russian republics,” he said.

    [AND then he said….]

Trump tried to swat away several questions from reporters on Wednesday about his ties to Russia. “I have nothing to do with Russia,” he told one journalist. “How many times do I have to say that? Are you a smart man? I have nothing to do with Russia.”

Throw in Manafort and other trump staff’s ties to Russia and you just gotta say, “Do what?”

  26. Jesse Jackson: “It’s healing time. It’s hope time. It’s Hillary time.”

  27. Trump is like an untrained dog.  Every time they let him off the leash he bites the mailman.  Like today with his Russian email comments.  Or making fun of the disabled reporter (which the Dems exploited beautifully last night).  I’m not going to freak out about Trump unless one of two things happen; either he stays on script (which I don’t think he can psychologically do), or the U.S. is the victim of a major terrorist attack.  Until one of these happens, I’m going to enjoy the show.

  28. Cable TV has once more leaped on the Trump free media train only to have the conductor spew more of the same from the diseased brain.

  29. When gas was going thru the roof, we said good.  It would force people to find other solutions……..now that its cheap…..same thing imo…..lets find other solutions……fruck fracking….

  30. Blue

If they want to fall for more greed of the same from Doctor Jill, she can have them.

  31. Best case scenario:  Trump is out because of his request for a foreign gov’t to commit espionage…and Hill is out because she’s a criminal.  We go on without either of them.

Bonnie & Clyde Clinton can not be trusted to be near the WH, again.

How is anyone going to persuade voters that she is trustworthy?  They can’t.  She has a record of lying.

The DNC colluded with the Clinton campaign. All of this hand-wringing about WHO exposed them?  They should be ashamed of themselves for sending those emails!  They are only upset that they were caught.

The Clintons are as dirty as the day is long.

  32. I’ve watched as much DNCC as I could catch, and as nice as it is to behold all the shiny, happy people genuinely working hard to make a positive difference, there’s a strong high-school dynamic in that building, with the cool kids on stage and the nerds on the floor.  Parading celebrities like Meryl Streep (amazing actor, in my opinion) across the stage doesn’t make the Democratic agenda more palatable to Blue-Collar America, either, I can assure you.  Constructive criticism.

Thanks, Pogo- high praise.  I’ll quit while I’m ahead.

  33. Maybe Clinton used a private server so it wouldn’t get hacked by the Russians.

    (Sorry, got trolled. Yielding.)

  34. Hey Xrep…  it’s a deal…  I’ll boo those White Sox any day of the week…  especially that nutcase Chris Sale (good pitcher though).

Bink…  yeah that Lisbeth Salander really kicks ass!

Patd…  I hear we’re all going to your house for dinner on Friday…  I’ll bring a good bottle of Pinot Noir and some Zucchini bread.  We got lots and lots of zucchini (apparently the effing deer don’t like it)…

The finale episode of Wayward Pines is tonight….   might not be able to resist watching it.

  35. Ok….that was mostly Sam……..here’s the true cheese wit all the guys behind them……old horns is quite effective, but man, oh man, that Hammond B-3……

  36. Cheap oil restricts the amount of damage that oil tyrants (russia, Moldova, Iran, Iraq, saudi Arabia, Libya, Bahrein, Sudan, Nigeria, Brunei, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Venezuela) can inflict on their slaves, serfs, and neighbors.

Outside of Norway, Kurdistan, Venezuela, Romania, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Indonesia, and Britain, I can’t think of any countries where poor people benefit from high oil prices. In most oil producing countries, a high oil price merely means that poor people have to pay more for oil. A dictator of Indonesia used oil revenue to lessen the economic havoc as he caused the deaths of a million ethnic Chinese. In the cases of Venezuela & Kurdistan, it’s hard to say that the good has outweighed the evil by very much, if at all. Venezuela’s financing of death squads and international terrorists outweighs the food subsidies in my estimation.

I am open to better information if there is any.

  37. Nowadays I relate more to “This Old House”, by Stuart Hamlin, than “Wake Up Little Suzie” by the Everlies…..

  38. So Dems aren’t talking to white working class voters– Biden is such a big baby – just because his father sold used cars doesn’t make him the world authority on white middle class voters  I’m sick of him

Go junior brown – doing a great job as gov

  39. I was in the “house band” at a big beach pavilion for a couple years, 67 and 68 to be exact…..that was what i like to refer to as my extra two years in high school period……we backed a bunch of the lesser headliners of the day….no Jerry Butler, James Brown, Sam and Dave etc……but there were The Dixie-Cups……and Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Bobby Moore and the Rhythmn Aces, Lee Dorsey, The Hully Gully Olympics, Tams, Drifters, Vibrations, Gary US Bonds………Ernie K-Doe……..

Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts

but the greatest thrill to a wretched little lad of tender years was:

  40. Used to dearly love to watch those guys WORK to get a lackadaisical audience up on their feet and jumping…..

Pat Conroy, fresh out of the Citade,l was there a few times……..Colbert was just a baby.
