We’ve got to win not only in Syria and Iraq, we’ve got to crush ISIS in the West.”

Bink,I don’t disagree with you about the incident yesterday re: the TDF, this time the motorcycle wasn’t at fault – short of mowing down spectators it had not choice but to brake – but for years now there have been incidents with them and complaints from the teams about bot h media and official motorcycles interfering with the riders.  In some cases the issue was crowds – they are always an issue in the mountains both with and without barriers.  There have also been issues with team cars in the past, but it seems the teams and tour have gotten that resolved.  My point is that the tour management needs to set clear guidelines and consider how to manage the crowds in the constricted place – particularly near summits and narrow roadways that are accessible to them.

    Tony, Newt says “test every Muslim?” By monitoring the internet and mosques?  Really?  That should do it, right?  Moron.

    A vote came quickly Thursday night as part of a day-long marathon session of the Republican National Convention’s rules committee, which sets the rules of the meetings and how the party will pick its nominee in 2020.

    The rejection of the “unbinding” proposal was so overwhelming that committee leaders opted not to record the tally. Trump supporters on the committee quickly exercised procedural tactics to effectively kill any attempt to revive the issue — and to codify that delegates are indeed bound to vote for the results of state caucuses and primaries.

    Paul Manafort, the chairman of the Trump campaign, heralded the win,tweetingthat an insurrection was “crushed.”

    Looks like I was right in rejecting the prediction I heard yesterday and before from Blue that the pugns would not nominate drumpf.

Hello from the road.  Back to being opinionated next Monday.  in the meant I me, Nice criminal seems to be another passed off young man French/tunesian assimilated in French society not some agent of organized terrorism.  maybe we Are trying to solve the wrong problem.  Once more governments are finding out you can’t have both guns and butter.  Why do they keep pickings?

  14. When I was a young person in Cleveland, people joked about the Police not being able to turn-off their patrol cars at shift change–they were so old that they would never get them to restart.

    Not so the horses which were always a calming presence when window shopping along Euclid Avenue, or when leaving the stadium after a ball game.

    Cleveland in the post-War years was an exciting place to be. Although, in school, we were expected to know all about our suburban city, we also knew the history and happenings of Cleveland itself.

Back in 2003 when Rick was working for HP….  he and a group of fellow workers were awarded an all expenses paid week long trip to Monaco.  Everyone could take one guest…  so of course Rick took me.  Our home base was a swanky hotel in downtown Monte Carlo…  but we had many choices of bus guided tours to France and Italy.  On one such tour we went to the medieval artist colony of St Paul de Vence in France.  On our way there, we passed what looked like a huge slum.  Our tour guide told us it was where Muslims from Northern Africa lived.  She said they were guest workers brought in to do all the stuff the French didn’t want to do.  We were told they were not allowed to have French citizenship even if they were born there.  She said in her opinion, it was a time bomb waiting to go off.

    I guess we’re lucky that all our Catholic Hispanic migrants aren’t radicalized…

    ps…  we also took a tour of Nice and were walking on that promenade….  what a beautiful spot for such an ugly thing to happen…

That Indiana law – the revised one – served one very important purpose for the state of Indiana – it kept them from being sued after SCOTUS ruled that equal protection protects same sex couples who wish to marry. So-called religious freedom laws that are written as broadly as what I suspect the initial law signed by Pence was would never withstand a constitutional challenge on the basis of violating equal protections if the defense was exercise of religious freedom. It would be a “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” (applied to the states) case against the 14th amendment’s “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” (Italicized portion is applicable).  There ain’t nothing in the constitution that gives the states the right to abridge the privileges or immunities of its citizens, passing laws that in effect deny equal protection to its citizens in the name of religious freedom. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the meetings that led to the Pence about face.

    Daughter Sue’s group at school includes a significant number of Latin American and Southeast Asian immigrants. When she makes home visits, many of the parents are unable to communicate in English. Sue does her best with Spanish, and, in addition to ASL, she is fluent in the sign language that is the lingua franca of refugee populations.

    From her description of less-than-subsistence living conditions experienced by many of the families, the immigration status of some, and the frustration she sees in the faces of many, I question whether these people, as a group, are experiencing the ‘American Dream’.

    Could these people become radicalized? Your guess is as good as mine; I don’t discount the possibility if…

    Lying bulltwitter ! Deadbeat donald pulled the news conference because the Nice atrocity trumpled all over his event. The ‘news’ creeps would have broken from Nice coverage just long enough to say, And, in other news, donald trump chose a running mate. Now, back to France where Cholmondley Flapjowls is interviewing Jacque Q. Public.

    Find some semi competent white fighter, give him some  “hasbeen/wannabe” opponents to build his record, then set him up for one shot at the big time.

    The real goal for the promoters and others involved isn’t winning but to separate racist whites from their money. Nothing like a good white hope to attract the sucker bets.

    BTW I ran across this article about the origin of the term “Great White Hope”  It goes back to the early 1900’s after Jack Johnson won the  heavyweight boxing title.
