Trump’s restraint in last night’s debate is bad news for Democrats, showing he knows how to control himself. Therefore I am ready for Hillary. Trump looks clever enough to win. But his failure to clearly denounce supporters punching out protesters at his events scares me. Hillary supporters beware. This is not a cake walk. Ignore her baggage and Trump’s appeal at your peril.

I’ll stay where I am for the time being. My problem was never that others opposed Hillary Clinton, but rather the assumption of “baggage”. When what is dredged up is nothing more than the supposition, accusation, invention, and speculation of 30 years of right wing TV and radio, it isn’t “baggage”; it is believing the empty memes of political enemies.
When all of the above amounts to either visiting the sins of the husband on the wife or unequally applying to a woman what you would never even vaguely demand of a man, then it is wrong.
Look at all the men on offer and then realize we have a chance to elect a dedicated, brilliant, hard working and apparently warmly affectionate woman. You may disagree with her political positions, but it just isn’t going to get any better for the nation.
Mr Trump offers an opportunity for a protest vote; an FU to the business as usual/growing ever distant Parties. Cutting off your nose to spite your face? Yeah. Probably. People are that fed up. Party Leadership is that dense.
patD – Actually, that pic of Grandpa Munster looks like Ted Cruz & Paul Ryan had a baby.
As for Trump, it remains to be seen as to what the RNC can do to sideline him and install their own candidate. Would they take a chance on Ryan/Hayley?
Jamie- Hear hear! I thank you and I know Patsi does. She would have had some more choice words to express it all though 😉
Jamie, we need to hear those thoughts. Supporters speaking up like that will help her the most, might even persuade some detractors.
trump blames protesters not his supporters reports crooksandliars:
When Tapper confronted Trump with his own words at rallies where he has said people should have the “crap beaten out of them” and more, Trump replied, “We have some protesters who are bad dudes, they have done bad things. They are swinging, they are really dangerous and they get in there and they start hitting people.”
This is, of course, a complete lie. No protester has hit anyone at one of these rallies. Indeed, it’s exactly the opposite.
Trump added, “And we had a couple big, strong, powerful guys doing damage to people, not only the loudness, the loudness I don’t mind. But doing serious damage. And if they’ve got to be taken out, to be honest, I mean, we have to run something.”
also see cbs this morning’s “Dickerson on violence at Trump rallies, GOP debate” and cbs julianna goldman’s “Trump says he doesn’t condone campaign rally violence”
Last night the boys tried to be grownups and sure were boring. Watching Trump grapple with real policy stuff is like watching a goat try to drive a car.
according to hollywoodlife we weren’t the only one’s throwing snarks and snides during the debate:
While Donald and the gang were debating immigration, the economy, and whether or not to continue to support the common core education system, Hillary was busy on Twitter, mocking Donald’s roundabout, confusing and repetitive statements. The hilarious gif features a kooky looking Donald saying “what am I saying?” while Kate McKinnon (doing her fabulous Hillary impression) yells “who knows?!”
they followed up with tweets from responding commenters
Trump’s incomprehensible explanations and outright lies (Take them out. I’ll pay for your defense. I’d like to punch them in the face.) are somewhere south of believable – or even understandable.
What I saw last night that does give me pause has nothing to do with HRC. Trump said he did not plan to do anything to Social Security, but planned to pay for it be getting rid of massive amount of waste, Fraud and abuse in government (spending I assume although he didn’t exactly say that or at least I didn’t hear that). That will ring true with a lot of folks in the independent middle (you know, the moderate independent middle that some pundits say doesn’t exist?) Seems to me he’s starting to focus on the votes he’ll need to win the contest in November. He’s already got the reality TV crowd and when he secures the pugn nomination he’ll pick up the RW of the party or at least most of it, although Preibus’ intro sounded like he doesn’t necessarily believe that so he’s reassuring (begging for?) the pugn crowd that will happen.
WAPO put up a 3 min. clip together of several clips of that dude punching the protester, too bad they didn’t voice over Trump’s speeches inciting people (hmmm, TV AD? )

and according to daily news of india there were more tweets from her during the debate:
–>Debate one of these guys? Bring it on — Hillary Clinton
While the final four Republican candidates – Rubio, Cruz, Trump and Kasich – debates various issues, Hillary Clinton’s Twitter account swung into action mocking the candidates and telling them to ‘bring it on’. Her handle also called Trump a ‘disgrace for condoning violence against protesters and the media’. She wrote on Twtiter; .@realDonaldTrump: condoning violence against protesters and press at your rallies is the real disgrace. #GOPdebate She also added: “Climate change is too urgent a threat to wait on Congress. Proud of the US-Canada announcement to take steps to reduce methane emissions.”
see article for actual tweets
tried to embed it but here is the link to Hillary’s No. 1 retweeted tweet from last night
For all you astrophysics nuts out there (and you know who you are) the folks at Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey think they’ve found the largest structure in the universe. The WaPo article tries to explain it. I don’ t understand much of it, being a mere stargazer.
Gerson’s piece today reflects the growing concern (panic?) among the pugn establishment, aptly titled “Trump is the demagogue that our Founding Fathers feared”
Too bad, so sad. You’ve got him now deal with it.
Can’t get the GIF to work, but here’s the screenshot
“First of all, we’re not asking for a backdoor, nor are we asking anyone to turn anything on to spy on anyone,” Lynch said. “We’re asking them to do is do what their customer wants. The real owner of the phone is the county, the employer of one of the terrorists who’s now dead.”
I thought Trump sucked last night he has no depth for the issue
have younoticed his supporters are all wrapped in the flag and fat
BlueB… I have a good friend that’s an ardent Republican and I know she will vote for whomever gets their nomination. But then… I’m the same way concerning the Democratic nominee. Our friendship survives because we choose not to discuss politics.
Craig… it looked to me as if you were gearing up to support Trump. Seeing how politics is all we discuss here… I had a hard time considering if I wanted to stay. You keep saying that this place is driven by the commenters… yeah, it is to some degree… but you are still the host and leader.
And I agree with everything that Jamie said.
RR, must admit the TV junkie in me was enjoying the show. “Hi, I’m not a presidential candidate, but I play one in Republican primaries.”
So no Muslims or Cubans will be voting for the Strumpette…..going for the cracker vote (no relation)
Nancy is giving us a Trump break, looks like wall to wall coverage of her funeral at 2p ET (1:15 musical service). She’s even bumping General Hospital. Hillary will be there.
Do first ladies all sit together?
guess so, KGC, the official program lists her as “Mrs. Bill Clinton”
la times:
Americans need to know that there are “two Donald Trumps,” Carson said.
One is the man who has dominated headlines and the Republican primary with his brash statements, said Carson, a retired neurosurgeon who captivated some conservative voters with his unconventional presidential campaign before dropping out of the race last week.
The other is “very cerebral and sits there and considers things very carefully.”
“He’s much more cerebral and a much more reasonable person than comes across,” Carson said of Trump. As voters “begin to see the real individual there,” he said, “I think we’re going to be comforted as a nation.”
cnn carson endorses trump:
Palm Beach, Florida (CNN)Ben Carson threw his support behind Donald Trump Friday morning, saying the two men had “buried the hatchet” and praising the Republican Party’s front-runner as a “the voice of the people to be heard.”
Speaking at a news conference here at Trump’s private club, Mar-a-Lago, the retired neurosurgeon echoed Trump’s recent calls for party unity and pleaded with the GOP to allow the “political process to play out.”
“What I’ve been seeing recently is political operatives … once again trying to assert themselves and trying to thwart the will of the people,” Carson said. “I find that to be an extraordinarily dangerous place right now.”
Carson’s endorsement, coming just one week after he ended his own White House campaign, gives Trump a significant boost as the Republican nominating contest heads to critical states like Florida and Ohio on Tuesday. Trump said he did not make any promises to Carson about a future role in a potential Trump administration, but pledged that Carson would play a “big, big part” in his campaign.

btw, surgeon general dreams?
see this link at twitchy for responses to that trump boast – uh- tweet
Yeah… what Carson forgot to mention is that he considers Trump to be the pineapple of his fruit salad…
wonkette: Ben Carson Has New Scam Cure To Sell, And Its Name Is Donald Trump
So now the boys are having a little press conference together, to talk about how great Ben Carson is for thinking Donald Trump is great. Somewhere, Chris Christie is feeling so lonely. [….] Today, the role of Chris Christie will be played by Dr. Carson.
Let’s watch the fun!
Oh no, there are two Trumps? One is too many.
I wonder how many of us have weathered the slings and arrows by running for public office and, if elected, unlike our friend from Alaska, completing our term. I know Craig ran, so did Renee and I believe she served on her school board, I ran and was elected a commissioner of our small Florida city, and I’m sure there are others as well. Show yourselves!
It’s a unique privilege, circulating the petitions in the different precincts gaining the signatures of supporters for joint causes when, up to now, they may have only seen you on teevee or read about your activities in the newspaper. Some of the neighborhood leaders I asked to shepherd me about, asking their fellow residents to tell me what government could do better. It was not difficult adding girth to the platform that I had in mind.
It was talking with, and soliciting contributions from, small business owners. They almost always thought that their wishes trumped my expressed goals for the city and the ways that I would work to accomplish those goals. Big sigh. Finding people who needed immediate help and working to get them that help even though I was not yet elected. Lots of meet the candidates meetings, etc.
Watching Nancy funeral. Schwarzenegger has really put on weight (not in a good way), looks more like Wayne Newton (also there).
Ted Cruz and Scary Fiorina …Now that would be a ticket…except she is a monumental loser
I’m having nightmare jus thinking about the venom oozing from the two of them
Jamie, you’ll be happy to read salon’s pov on
Samantha Bee is Jon Stewart’s real heir: Finally, the 2016 campaign has the satirist we so desperately need
Noah’s “Daily Show” is toothless, Colbert’s playing to the masses on CBS. Samantha Bee is taking down the right
[….]Much will be made of the fact that Bee broke into the boys club as the first female comedian to host a late-night comedy show. And her success as a female comedian is significant. But the reason Bee’s show is so important is because of her mode of humor, not her gender.
Her show has a healthy dose of feminist comedy, but arguably she doesn’t have to be a woman to offer that. Camp recently did a smart segment on sexism, for instance. Bee’s feminist interventions are important because they are the perfect balance of angry, ironic and smart. Focusing less on the hypocrisy and “bullshit” that was often the target of Stewart, Bee zeroes in on how hypocrisy is used to cover up injustice. And she takes the characteristic WTF of Stewart’s comedy to a whole new level.
With “Full Frontal” Bee plays with the double meaning of the term—swapping the vulnerability and sexual objectification of full frontal nudity with a full frontal assault. Given the stakes in this election campaign and the real possibility that we could have a commander in chief with absolutely no experience in either government or the military, Bee’s satire-as-attack is exactly what we need to expose the stakes in this electoral war.
Car-driving Goat 2016!
Rubio is telling his supporters in Ohio not to vote for him, so Kasich will win. (It’s too soon to pop corn for their convention, but it should be entertaining.)
The Donald doesn’t want to debate anymore. He says there have been enough of them. Agreed.
The Donald doesn’t want to debate because he’s being exposed as not really having a good understanding of whaat it means to be president. Everything is not about the deal I think he lost ground as a result of the debate performance – Little Marco may pull it out after all
also he is surprisingly ignorant
Nice to see Hillary, Rosalynn and Carolyn K standing together at Nancy funeral.
holy shit, what a historic shot , caroline, rosalynn hillary, laura, george, michelle,
Flatus… no school board for me… IMO, one should have had children or have been a teacher to serve such an office. I was elected to a position called Supervisor of the Checklist. It’s a board of 3… we made corrections to the voter’s checklist and registered people to vote. I always ran unopposed as it was a 6 yr term… the town was happy to get anyone to do it. I did 3 terms… the last 2 I was the chairperson. I was also a ballot clerk for the 6 yrs prior. After 24 yrs, I gladly retired. Now I just show up and vote… it feels good to visit, but great to go home.
For those interested ABC has best camera work at Nancy funeral
Yes Oldsea, that was moving to see, sanity and continuity has a chance! Feeling so bad for Ron jr. today (he looks absolutely distraught). We became good friends at MSNBC. He so loved his mother, and she him. Remember asking him what they did after they got home from his father’s funeral. Said they were so hungry they ordered pizza.
Even in the Old Testament, the women were really, really good at running things. 🙂
Who[a] can find a virtuous[b] wife? For her worth is far above rubies.11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;So he will have no lack of gain.12 She does him good and not evilAll the days of her life.13 She seeks wool and flax,And willingly works with her hands.14 She is like the merchant ships,She brings her food from afar.15 She also rises while it is yet night,And provides food for her household,And a portion for her maidservants.16 She considers a field and buys it;From her profits she plants a vineyard.17 She girds herself with strength,And strengthens her arms.18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,And her lamp does not go out by night.19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,And her hand holds the spindle.20 She extends her hand to the poor,Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,For all her household is clothed with scarlet.22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.23 Her husband is known in the gates,When he sits among the elders of the land.24 She makes linen garments and sells them,And supplies sashes for the merchants.25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come.26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,And on her tongue is the law of kindness.27 She watches over the ways of her household,And does not eat the bread of idleness.28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:29 “Many daughters have done well,But you excel them all.”30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,And let her own works praise her in the gates.
Cool phrase from Diane Sawyer eulogy about when Nancy would get angry at reporters: “But she never hardened differences into definitions.”
craig- “that was moving to see, sanity and continuity has a chance!” – so true. he does indeed look extenuated. losing a parent is hard enough, i am grateful that i didn’t experience it in front of the world’s lens. you’ve met so many people during your career- you’re lucky to have such memories and views of their lives.
Patti Davis eulogy. Stunning
Ron jr. eulogy: “And here they’ll stay, as they always wished it to be, resting in each other’s arms, only each other’s arms, till the end of time.”
That was a truly beautiful service.
ron jr has his dad’s ease and warmth about him. great delivery, humble, humorous, sweet and loving where appropriate. hope we see more of him.
from cnn: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are now scheduled to address the conference hosted by AIPAC, the leading pro-Israel lobby in Washington, from March 20 to March 22, the organization said Friday. AIPAC did not specify the dates on which the candidates will speak.
from the jewish press:
A Thursday Statnet/Walla survey conducted under the supervision of Tel Aviv University’s Prof. Camil Fuchs shows that Israelis prefer Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton by a large margin to win the White House, but say they trust Republican candidate Donald Trump to take care of Israel’s interests.
The survey included 601 respondents, of whom 499 were Jews, 102 Arabs. The overall results show that 38% preferred Clinton, compared with 23% for Trump. The rest of the candidates were far behind. Bernie Sanders received 7%, Ted Cruz 5%, and Marco Rubio 4%.
A full 23% of respondents said they had no idea whom to support.
When analyzed according to different sectors, 26% of Jews like Trump, compared with 7% of Arabs. And while 44% of the Arabs prefer Hillary, only 37% of the Jews do. 61% of voters for center-left parties prefer Clinton, but only 25% of voters for rightwing and religious parties do. Then 33% of rightwing voters liked Trump, and only 18% of the center-left bunch did.
