So Long, Nancy

400x225Nancy Reagan’s elegant funeral today brought sanity and continuity to the stage. Political leaders from both sides, along with media and entertainment celebrities, coming together to honor a legendary love story between two people who really did change the world, regardless of what you think about what they changed it into.

Ron Reagan Jr. eulogy: “And here they’ll stay, as they always wished it to be, resting in each other’s arms, only each other’s arms, till the end of time.”

  1. ron jr has his dad’s ease and warmth about him.  great delivery, humble, humorous, sweet and loving where appropriate.  hope we see more of him.

  2. President Reagan started the tax cut revolution we’ve seen from Republicans over the last 40 years.  But he was a statesman.  Methinks if he saw what is happening now with his beloved party, he’d be rolling over in his grave.  Every time I see one of those clowns running for the GOP nomination invoke Reagan’s name at a debate, I laugh at them.  He wouldn’t be an acceptable Republican candidate for president today. Too practical. Republicans have taken his positions waaaaay too far.

  3. Craig…  when I saw and heard the bagpiper who led the procession outside, I was immediately taken back to the spreading of Sean’s ashes into the Gloucester Bay.

  4. It was class act. Both Patti and Ron Jr.’s eulogies were excellent. After all the times I used to deride Nancy Reagan, I can’t believe I’m writing this, but, as Rebellious Renee notes, the Reagans are looking a good bit different compared with GOP the circus going on now.

  5. I never cared much one way or the other about Nancy Reagan but did admire the dedication she and Ronnie had for each other.  I thought she was the power behind the throne, particularly in RR’s last term.  I came to have a much greater respect and appreciation for her when Ronnie’s Alzheimers was disclosed and I assumed she was providing his care for him although I was certain she had enough money to pay to have that care provided by someone else.  She deserves to rest in peace – if she spent 10 years caring for Ron after his diagnosis, she has earned it.

  6. Ok here’s the nicest thing I can say about Nancy and Ron

their children turned out just fine

  7. I haven’t had the teevee on all day. I’m truly glad the kids are okay and the entire family is at peace at last. And, Ronnie, you devil you, be gentle.

  8. Jamie,

Hillary Clinton was heavily involved with the ‘centrist’ Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), the ‘New Democrats’, and the ‘think tank'”/lobbying group the Third Way or the Wall Street arm of the Democratic Party.  Most of her problems are self-inflicted including her latest back handed attack on the late Nancy Reagan.

One of the benefits of America’s unusually stingy welfare system, thanks to Bill, is that it allows our domestic payday-loan industry to thrive. Since the safety net is too threadbare to catch the working poor when they fall on troubled times, payday lenders are able to charge them exorbitant interest on subsistence loans. A close ally of Hillary Clinton and Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) is co-sponsoring, with the Congressional Republicans, a new bill that would gutthe Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) forthcoming payday loanregulations.  She’s also attempting to gin up Democratic support for the legislation on Capitol Hill, according to a memo obtained by The Huffington Post.  Then the DNC has dismantled the last of its prohibitions on receiving donations from lobbyists and political action committees.

I like the title of Tom Frank’s new book “Listen, Liberal or Whatever Happen to the Party of the People” about the shameful history of the ‘New Democrats’ alliance with the Wall Street plutocrats.  Who needs Republicans when you have the New Democrats?

Never made any claims of infallibility for Hillary only that I really like her and always have.  Looking over the possible candidates, the ONLY one that I believe has all the qualities necessary to do the job properly is Hillary if only because she is willing to look at actions taken, outcomes realized and actually change her mind if that is necessary.

The GOP doesn’t have anyone worth the powder to blow them to hell and St. Bernard is totally ineffectual about virtually everything he has ever done since leaving Burlington’s mayors office.

  10. Oh Hell! I’ve had it with all these people!

I’m going to break out my Obama 2016 cap.

    duck!

  11. Trump rally in Chicago postponed. Ahhh too bad.

Trump to supporters, it’s ok to be bigots, just don’t act like it.

  12. If this comes full circle, the republican convention will make Chicago 1968 look like a church picnic.

  13. I have admired Ronnie and Nancy, they had grace. Didn’t agree politically but I never doubted their commitment to each other and the nation they both loved. These are qualities that are sadly lacking in our own time.
