MAHA moms are mad, lawmakers are fighting it: Diving into Trump’s glyphosate order
President Donald Trump signed an executive order this week that has caused a deep split not only between his political allies but also among his supporters.
In a surprising move on Wednesday, Trump issued an executive order prioritizing U.S. production of glyphosate, a widely used weedkiller that officials and the scientific community say could cause cancer.
It’s a herbicide that Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy has called “one of the likely culprits in America’s chronic disease epidemic,” and a chemical that many RFK and Trump supporters have fought to have banned in the U.S.
***
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2026/02/trump-kennedy-maha-roundup.html
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. himself took on Monsanto, Roundup’s manufacturer, in a successful 2018 case accusing the company of knowing that the chemical caused cancer. In 2024 he called glyphosate “one of the likely culprits in America’s chronic disease epidemic” and promised to ban it.
So what did the head of the Trump administration’s health department have to say about it now?
“Donald Trump’s executive order puts America first where it matters most—our defense readiness and our food supply,” Kennedy said in a statement. “We must safeguard America’s national security first, because all of our priorities depend on it.”
It was a near echo of what Trump himself said when he declared glyphosate necessary to keeping the food supply chain steady and therefore “crucial to military readiness and national defense.” The president’s executive order, invoking a 1950s law meant for national security emergencies, creates the legal basis for glyphosate producers to be shielded from lawsuits and authorizes the Department of Agriculture to compel those companies to produce the pesticide.
To critics, Kennedy’s endorsement seemed like a confounding betrayal.

and the hits just keep on coming…
Three months into President Donald Trump’s mass deportation undertaking, an ICE officer shot and killed a U.S. citizen in South Padre Island, long before immigration agents killed another American in Minnesota that prompted outrage across the nation, according to records released this week that were not previously disclosed by the government.
Agents assigned to a Department of Homeland Security subagency fatally shot 23-year-old Ruben Ray Martinez of San Antonio multiple times in the early hours of March 15 while they helped local police direct traffic at the scene of a car crash, records released by American Oversight, a nonprofit government watchdog, show.
“Since Ruben’s death a year ago, all we have wanted is justice for him and we have struggled with the silence surrounding his killing,” his mother, Rachel Reyes, said in a statement. “Now, the country is in crisis — and, terribly, heartbreakingly, other families are enduring what we have. It’s my hope that attention being raised now into Ruben’s death will help bring the justice we want for him and the answers we haven’t had.”
“What they’re telling the public is very different than what they’re doing behind closed doors. The only reason why we’re able to make these connections and really call into question the public statements that they’re making to mislead the public is because we’re able to get our hands on these documents,” Chukwu told The Texas Tribune. “That should deeply concern everyone.”
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials this week reported that the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at a detention facility in El Paso was the result of the staff’s “spontaneous use of force” to “prevent him from harming himself.”
Six El Paso detainees described in federal court statements last month that Lunas Campos, a father of three who had lived in the U.S. for nearly 20 years before being arrested last year, begged for days to receive his asthma medication. Detention staff refused and threatened him with solitary confinement, inmates said in the court filings.
The finding is a stark contrast to the initial ICE news release claiming Lunas Campos died from “medical distress.” Only after the medical examiner advised his family that it might be a homicide did ICE officials allege a suicide attempt.
“This is a moment where we need local law enforcement, local prosecutors to create accountability, because the federal government will not,” said U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, an El Paso Democrat who has visited the Fort Bliss camp more than half a dozen times.
She said that she believes local prosecutors have jurisdiction to prosecute the case although it happened on federal property because the staffers involved appear not to be ICE employees, but contractors.
“From what I understand, these are civilians. They’re not law enforcement,” Escobar said in a recent interview.
“They do not have the immunity the way that federal, state or local law enforcement officials have.”

According to Ryan Data and Research, the Democratic primary has received about 13,000 more votes than the Republican primary after three days of early voting. The turnout statewide for each primary respectively is 1.7% and 1.6%.
According to the data, almost 65,000 votes in the Democratic primary came from people who have not previously voted in the primary election. The Republican primary has seen a little more than 27,000 of those general-election-only voters.

Non-partisan groups like March Matters are trying to energize and educate more voters to go to the polls in March so the candidates who are nominated from each party better reflect what Texans want. Their strategy is to partner with businesses, organizations, and faith leaders to help with their mission.
One of the first groups to partner with March Matters was Texas Impact, a faith-based advocacy network. Its executive director, Bee Moorhead, said in recent years they have seen faith leaders take on a role to educate their congregations to get out and vote.

Arab and Muslim nations on Saturday sharply condemned comments by the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, who said Israel has a right to much of the Middle East.
Huckabee made the comments in an interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson that aired Friday. Carlson said that according to the Bible, the descendants of Abraham would receive land that today would include essentially the entire Middle East, and asked Huckabee if Israel had a right to that land.
Huckabee responded: “It would be fine if they took it all.” Huckabee added, however, that Israel was not looking to expand its territory and has a right to security in the land it legitimately holds.
Egypt’s foreign ministry called Huckabee’s comments a “blatant violation” of international law, adding that “Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory or other Arab lands.”
“Statements of this nature — extremist and lacking any sound basis — serve only to inflame sentiments and stir religious and national emotions,” the League of Arab States said.
There was no immediate comment from Israel or the United States.
Since its establishment in 1948, Israel has not had fully recognized borders. Its frontiers with Arab neighbors have shifted as a result of wars, annexations, ceasefires and peace agreements.
Huckabee has long opposed the idea of a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinian people. In an interview last year, he said he does not believe in referring to the Arab descendants of people who had lived in British-controlled Palestine as “Palestinians.”
In the latest interview, Carlson pressed Huckabee about his interpretation of Bible verses from the book of Genesis, where he said God promised Abraham and his descendants land from the Nile to the Euphrates.
“That would be the Levant, so that would be Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon. It would also be big parts of Saudi Arabia and Iraq,” Carlson said.
Huckabee replied: “Not sure we’d go that far. I mean, it would be a big piece of land.”
Israel has encroached on more land since the start of its war with Hamas in Gaza.
Under the current ceasefire, Israel withdrew its troops to a buffer zone but still controls more than half the territory. Israeli forces are supposed to withdraw further, though the ceasefire deal doesn’t give a timeline.
Great interview with Professor Galloway, but particularly interesting starting around 3:10.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2026/02/19/daylight-act-of-2026-proposing-half-daylight-saving-time/88760725007/
Rep. Greg Steube, R-Florida, in the form of The Daylight Act of 2026. Introduced to Congress earlier this month, the bill proposes doing away with daylight saving as we know it and splitting the difference. Instead of a twice-yearly change of one hour each time, it would shift U.S. time zones forward 30 minutes from the current standard time and leave them there permanently.
Under the Daylight Act, the time zone UTC offsets would be changed to half-hour increments rather than hours. Each time zone would move forward 30 minutes. Eastern time would then be 4.5 hours behind UTC, instead of five.
Two states, Hawaii and Arizona (except the Navajo Nation), already observe standard time year-round.
*I’m all for a permanent time change, but not by 30 minutes. JFC!

Jeffrey Epstein Was Vladimir Putin’s Wealth Manager, FBI Source Claimed in Newly Released Epstein Files
Unsealed evidence related to the billionaire sex offender includes testimony from a “confidential human source” about Epstein’s business dealings
At the time of his death, a filing in Epstein’s sex trafficking case estimated his net worth at roughly $560 million, according to CBS News. He also owned a Manhattan townhouse worth more than $50 million, a ranch in New Mexico worth $17 million, a mansion in Palm Beach, Fla., estimated at about $12 million, an $8.6 million apartment in Paris, and two private islands — Great St. James and Little St. James — that were purchased for $60 million in 2023.
The FBI’s source, who had an established relationship with the bureau, claimed in their testimony that Epstein — a wealth manager — “made his money from charging his clients fees to hide their money offshore.”
“Epstein was President Vladimir Putin’s wealth manager and provided the same service for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe,” the source claimed.
July 2017, financier Bill Browder — formerly the largest foreign portfolio investor in Russia — testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, claiming, “Russia has a well-known reputation for corruption; unfortunately, I discovered that it was far worse than many had thought.”
Browder shared his belief that Putin “has accumulated $200 billion of ill-gotten gains” through corruption and criminal activity. He also alleged that Putin “keeps his money in the West,” which could lend credence to the claims of the FBI source.
Elsewhere in the new files are emails reported to be between Epstein and another powerful man with strong ties to Trump: Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
In multiple emails released by the DOJ, Musk asked Epstein about visiting Little Saint James. In one November 2012 exchange, Epstein asked how many people Musk planned to bring to visit.
“Probably just Talulah and me,” Musk replied, referring to actress Talulah Riley, his partner at the time. He then asked, “What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?”
“Will be in the BVU/St Bart’s area over the holidays. Is there a good time to visit?”
Epstein responded: “Any day 1st – 8th . play it by ear if you want. always space for you.”
“I have never been to any Epstein parties ever and have many times call [sic] for the prosecution of those who have committed crimes with Epstein.” Musk wrote in one post.
In another, he bragged, “If I actually wanted to spend my time partying with young women, it would be trivial for me to do so without the help of a creepy loser like Epstein and I would still have 99% of my mind available to think about other things. But I don’t.”

https://fortune.com/2026/02/19/sam-altman-confirms-ai-washing-job-displacement-layoffs/
Sam Altman says the quiet part out loud, confirming some companies are ‘AI washing’ by blaming unrelated layoffs on the technology
“I don’t know what the exact percentage is, but there’s some AI washing where people are blaming AI for layoffs that they would otherwise do, and then there’s some real displacement by AI of different kinds of jobs,” Altman told CNBC-TV18 at the India AI Impact Summit on Thursday.
“We’ll find new kinds of jobs, as we do with every tech revolution,” he said. “But I would expect that the real impact of AI doing jobs in the next few years will begin to be palpable.”

GlasOnion – Anyone questioning Sascha Riley stopped doubting when the documents started getting released. Horrible stuff, and all of the adoption agencies/orphanages that pop up in the Epstein files (and with the Widow Kirk & the old, dirty pastor that she’s doing a sideshow tour with), they should all be investigated.
