Whenever he witnesses one or more of his fellow citizens committing an act that betrays this country’s ideals, President Joe Biden insists that “this is not who we are as Americans.” Sad to say, Biden seriously underestimates the willingness of a great many of his fellow citizens to forsake those ideals when seduced by the sales pitch of a bombastic con man.
Proof of this arrived on Tuesday when a majority of voters chose to return former President Donald Trump to the White House. Apparently, many millions of Americans are sanguine about picking for president a twice-impeached, convicted felon with strong authoritarian tendencies and a low regard for the truth and the U.S. Constitution.
Of course, half of us did not want a second visit to this dreadful carnival. Nevertheless, we are about to be dragged onto another wild ride through Trump’s House of Horrors. So, hold on tight and steel yourselves for many stomach churning turns and plenty of screaming before we get to the other end.
Monkeys are on the loose in South Carolina, searches on Google for “moving to Canada” skyrocketed during the election, Elon Musk called Jimmy an “insufferable nonsense propaganda puppet,” President Biden delivered a speech about the election results and the peaceful transfer of power, the Department of Justice is reportedly winding down the multiple criminal cases against Trump, there is a totally baseless conspiracy going around that because Trump won in 2024 it means the election was rigged in 2020, MyPillow Mike is in a little bit of a pickle, Americans voted on all sorts of propositions and ballot measurements, a new This Week in Florida, Australian Breakdancer Raygun has decided to retire, and a special Election Edition of This Week in Unnecessary Censorship.
One of America’s favorite restaurants has filed for bankruptcy, RFK Jr. is expected to advise Donald Trump’s administration on matters of public health, and 43 monkeys have escaped from an island research facility in South Carolina.
History shows that once you build them, ostensibly for one targeted group, you use them for other groups too. The mass deportation plans are an opportunity to build the infrastructure of authoritarian repression.
After election, racist texts nationwide threaten Black people with slavery. WaPo
Black people in several states received racist texts, some that claimed to be affiliated with Donald Trump, ordering them to work as slaves on plantations.
The FBI and authorities in several states are investigating racist text messages sent to Black people nationwide this week saying they would be brought to plantations to work as enslaved people and pick cotton.
People in at least a dozen states and D.C. have received the messages according to authorities and local media. The texts have spread alarm in the aftermath of a presidential election marked by President-elect Donald Trump and his campaign’s use of inflammatory language against minorities.

pogo, sounds like someone’s trying to revive “the turner diaries” idea. probably with a little help from DOTUS-elect’s foreign bot friends.
for those who don’t remember the book here’s wiki on it:
The Turner Diaries is a 1978 novel by William Luther Pierce, the founder and chairman of National Alliance, a white nationalist group, published under the pseudonym Andrew Macdonald. It depicts a violent revolution in the United States which leads to the overthrow of the federal government, a nuclear war, and ultimately a race war which leads to the systematic extermination of non-whites and Jews. All groups opposed by the novel’s protagonist, Earl Turner—including Jews, non-white people, “liberal actors,” and politicians—are murdered en masse.
The Turner Diaries was described as being “explicitly racist and anti-Semitic” by The New York Times and has been labeled the “bible of the racist right” by the FBI. The book has been influential in shaping white nationalism and the later development of the white genocide conspiracy theory. It has also inspired numerous hate crimes and acts of terrorism, including the 1984 assassination of Alan Berg, the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and the 1999 London nail bombings. It is estimated to have influenced perpetrators in over 200 killings.
[…]
The Turner Diaries was initially only sold via mail order from the National Alliance headquarters in West Virginia. It had sold 200,000 copies by the late 1990s according to self-estimates generally considered reliable by scholars. Other estimates have gone higher, giving a figure of 500,000 copies sold as of 2000.
The Policy on the Classification of Hate Propaganda, Sedition and Treason of the Canada Border Services Agency has classified The Turner Diaries as “obscene” and “hate propaganda” literature that cannot be imported to Canada under the Criminal Code. In late 2020, online bookstore Amazon removed all new and used print and digital copies of The Turner Diaries from its bookselling platform, including all subsidiaries (AbeBooks, The Book Depository), effectively stopping sales of the title from the digital bookselling market. Although Amazon did not state a specific reason for the removal, it followed the company’s purge of a number of self-published and small-press titles connected with QAnon from its platform. The book had previously been on Amazon with a disclaimer noting its history of being associated with terrorist acts.[
“John McEntee, a political adviser who served in the Trump administration and a co-founder of the conservative dating app the Right Stuff, posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday in which he said: “So I guess they misunderstood. When we said we wanted mail-only voting, we meant male—’M-A-L-E.'”
“Sorry we want MALE only voting. The 19th might have to go,” he added in the video’s caption, referring to the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
McEntee’s video has since gone viral, amassing more than 4 million views, 3,800 likes, 1,800 reposts and 2,100 comments.”
This is who THEY are. That was not a joke, it was a wish.
Sooo, these new “detainment centers,” will they be WWII-style internment camps (wasn’t nobody making s’mores) or Soviet-style gulags where there will be forced labor?
“Prison labor is legal under the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime.[1]
“Prison labor in the U.S. generates significant economic output.[2] Incarcerated workers provide services valued at $9 billion annually and produce over $2 billion in goods.”
My guess is that, long term, these will be work camps for the non-violent without citizenship and, perhaps Dickensian debtor’s prisons.
They will only be detention centers to hold folks for deportation in the short run. They aren’t going to build them and not use them.
We’ve still got two months to undo this mess. Can President Biden and the current Congress put guardrails on any of it?

The six-part series follows the Manchester-based Lyons family: housing officer Daniel is married to Ralph, married couple Stephen and Celeste worry about their two children, single mother Rosie is looking for a new partner, and sister Edith is engaged in one humanitarian cause after another. Presiding over them all is their grandmother, the imperious Muriel. All their lives converge on one crucial night in 2019, and the story accelerates into the future, following the lives and loves of the Lyons over the next fifteen years as Britain is rocked by political upheavals, economic instability and technological advances.[5]

The FBI thwarted an Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump before he was re-elected as president, the Justice Department said in a case unsealed Friday that underscores the barrage of security threats Trump faces even before he takes office.
An Iranian operative told law enforcement that an official in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard directed him in September to put together a plan to surveil and ultimately kill Trump, federal prosecutors in Manhattan said in the criminal complaint.
The operative, identified as Farhad Shakeri, warned the official that crafting such a plan would cost a huge amount of money. In response, the official said, “we have already spent a lot of money…money’s not an issue.” The official in October told Shakeri if he couldn’t pull together a plan within seven days, they would put the assassination plot on hold until after the election, believing Trump would lose and it would be easier to kill him then, the complaint says.
The foiled plot, revealed just days after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, highlights what officials have described as ongoing attempts to target U.S. government officials, dissidents and political figures, including Trump, on U.S. soil. Federal prosecutors in August charged a Pakistani man with ties to Iran with plotting to kill Trump, prompting officials to bolster his security while on the campaign trail.
Officials have long warned that Iran continues trying to retaliate for the January 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, leader of Iran’s Quds Force, the group responsible for Iran’s covert military operations abroad. Trump ordered the strike, which occurred in Baghdad, while he was in the White House.
The newly unsealed complaint also says authorities disrupted another plot to kill a Brooklyn human-rights activist who has been vocally critical of Iran’s treatment of women.
Iran “has been conspiring with criminals and hit men to target and gun down Americans on U.S. soil, and that simply won’t be tolerated,” Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray said.
Shakeri, 51, and two others—Carlisle “Pop” Rivera, 49, of Brooklyn and Jonathan Loadholt, 36, of Staten Island—were charged in what prosecutors described as a network of criminal associates tasked by Iran to further assassination plots on targets including Trump. The three were each charged with murder-for-hire and other, related crimes. Court records don’t indicate who is representing the three.
Rivera and Loadholt were arrested and appeared in federal court Thursday; Shakeri remains at large living in Iran. He immigrated to the U.S. as a child and was deported sometime around 2008 after serving 14 years in prison for robbery.
Prosecutors said Shakeri had recently recruited men he met in prison, including Rivera and Loadholt, to help participate in other assassinations against other targets, including the activist.
Investigators learned of the plot against Trump while interviewing Shakeri, who told them he did not intend to propose a plan to kill Trump within Iran’s tight time frame, according to the complaint.

“We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections. We’re going to come after you.”
“President-elect Donald Trump has promised steep across-the-board tariffs on imports to the United States, with a particularly significant tax on goods coming from China. One US company, just two days after Trump’s reelection, says it isn’t wasting time getting out of China.”
“Steve Madden, a $3 billion shoe company, announced Thursday that it would rapidly halve its Chinese production to avoid Trump’s tariffs. Those plans have been in place for a long time, in anticipation of a Trump victory, according to Steve Madden’s CEO Edward Rosenfeld.”
“We have been planning for a potential scenario in which we would have to move goods out of China more quickly,” Rosenfeld told Wall Street analysts Thursday. “And so, as of yesterday morning, we are putting that plan into motion. And you should expect to see the percentage of goods that we sourced from China to begin to come down more rapidly going forward.”
“US labor laws, pay scales – and the fact that America simply doesn’t have as many people as other countries who want to make stuff – means that making shoes in the United States just doesn’t make business sense for most big companies.”
“The point of tariffs, in theory, is to incentivize US manufacturing by making imported goods comparatively more expensive to made-in-the-USA stuff. But here’s the catch: Steve Madden isn’t moving its production to the United States. It said it will be sourcing its goods from Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil and some other countries.”
As a change of thinking, fiftyish years ago my brother in law worked at a start up company, Mr Coffee. He was a tool and die apprentice at the time. One of the marketing tools the company used was to give deep discounts on the coffee maker. So we got one. Prior to that time we had always made coffee using a percolator. The taste varied as did the jokes.
My spouse and I were surprised at how easy it was to make coffee that was consistent in flavor. The Mr. Coffee was a success for many reasons, and it literally changed how Americans made their coffee. Since then much of my life I enjoyed drip coffee and in certain situations percolator coffee.
So, recently I started making percolator coffee as practice to making it on a boat without AC power to run a coffee maker. It is rich in flavor, deep in color, and so wonderfully thick. Especially compared to drip coffee. I realized that I missed the old flavor of coffee. Listening to the blub and pop of the percolator was great. Years ago I, or rather we, lived on percolator coffee.
I returned and now have the usual percolator coffee maker to make coffee on a fuel stove (think some type of camping stove). But, I made the next step to an electric percolator. Although I wanted one that I used back in the sixties and seventies, it made more sense to find a modern one. I did, as usual the Chinese made a good one. It works.
Renee, Lol, I did that too, got lost along the way during the changeover, lost passwords and access before Craig took pity and helped me get back in. Hope we’ll see Bink again by any other name, would be as sweet.
Officials are now gaming out various scenarios as they prepare for an overhaul of the Pentagon.“We are all preparing and planning for the worst-case scenario, but the reality is that we don’t know how this is going to play out yet,” one defense official said.
“Troops are compelled by law to disobey unlawful orders,” said another defense official. “But the question is what happens then – do we see resignations from senior military leaders? Or would they view that as abandoning their people?”
I don’t see why oaths of allegiance are beholden to liars, crooks and murderers. If a serial killer is at your door, you don’t owe him a truthful answer about who is in the house.
I think one of the first groups to have a lot of trouble will be the trans community. A large part of the blog posts etc appealing to the bro community have been anti trans comments.
The issue will be trans women playing competive sport’s particularly volley ball.
bId, good on you for keeping up the fight. Remind your family members when their first dearly held idol falls that you warned them.
Ahhhh, coffee. Drip on a daily basis, French press when I want it especially rich and percolator coffee – I think there’s one in a box in the basement. I love percolator coffee but Mrs. P doesn’t like strong coffee, so it’s not practical to perc it. And Keurig? No thanks – only at work and at conferences.
Have found that Goodwill and Christian Crossings (local thrift shop – have $10-25 drip machines by Cuisinart and other mid range manufacturers – about $100 off after people who can’t seem to grasp that coffee is pretty simple to make – hot water poured through ground roasted coffee beans – and the newest fanciest ones use that formula and it tastes like that whether made in the newest and oldest coffee makers.

My father was born in Scotland, so I’ve always considered that my escape hatch because Britain honors that sort of relationship. They may have changed the eligible years. I would have to recheck.
I still think Kamala Harris should announce she’s running for 2028, on January 21st.
I am supposed to be eligible for a Finnish passport. Have to look at that again.
Iranian Agents Plotted to Kill Donald Trump, Justice Department Says
these guys don’t ever forget. DOTUs-elect will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
Not sure if this was the Trump voters before the election or the Harris voters since the election.
Out for a walk in the neighborhood on a very fine day. Yes, that’s my shadow.
An up and coming Democratic Texas State rep who could be governor some day.
Sad to not see Bink here. I hope he’s doing what he has to do to take care of himself. We’re all going to have to double-up on that self-care shit.
If you’ve never listened to Talarico speak, you should go listen to one on YouTube. He walks the walk that Mike Johnson and others only talk.
Ivy – Bink said he was “locking himself out of this account” a couple of days ago. He may be back one day, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
BID, I wasn’t sure what was going on. Sorry to hear that, he has an important voice that I hope we’ll hear again.
Ivy… Bink has quit this blog at least several times before…. he has always come back. He comes back with a different name… but we always recognize him. Kinda like Brokeback Mountain… he doesn’t seem able to quit us.
BTW…. my favorite incantation of him was when he called himself… Lord Bloggingham.
Kash Patel, who is on the shortlist to serve in Trump’s administration:
“We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections. We’re going to come after you.”

https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/08/economy/steve-madden-china-trump-tariffs/index.html
Hope we’ll see Bink again by any other name, would be as sweet.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/08/politics/pentagon-officials-discussing-trump/index.html
“Pentagon officials are holding informal discussions about how the Department of Defense would respond if Donald Trump issues orders to deploy active-duty troops domestically and fire large swaths of apolitical staffers, defense officials told CNN.”
Blue Bronc, I’ve about had it with the tasteless Keurig and invested in a French Press and a kettle to boil the water.
Telling my family member about the changes because of who won the election, but they say these stories are just liberal scare tactics. Obtuse.
bId, good on you for keeping up the fight.
