A day for photos you’ve taken along the way.
This photo is of Rick, co-founder of The Lost Cowboy Band out of Nashville, taken onstage at The Seven Seas in Lake Charles, Louisiana, 1980.

That’s a nice pic. You can tell the time-frame.
A picture-perfect day for a wedding!
Beautiful Rolls Royce!
If Ecuador does toss assange out on the street he should probably run as fast as he can to the nearest Bobby and ask to be arrested. FSB might not be happy to have him stink up their jail.
The PBS broadcast of the British happenings seems to be hype free.
it’s a misnomer to label them “monarchs”
bink, completely disagree with you considering how they colorfully flit and flutter hither and thither …. supposedly on their way to extinction.
We watched Harry’s parents’ wedding from our departure quarters in England. We invited the housekeeping staff into our room so that they could view things on the telly. They were enthralled.
Craig – Prince Phillip just walked in on his new hip. You have a lot in common with the royals now.
Rick, in the picture, went on to work for Earl Scruggs many years, and now lives in Branson Missouri being a musician.
Okay, a train can add to a wedding dress, but to have a mile long train is going way to far.
Love the Rolls
The princes remind me a lot of my sons. Close to each other.
I don’t think the royals know what to think of Meghan’s American preacher. Not stuffy. Kate & Camilla giving side-eye.
Future Prez & First Lady, George & Amal Clooney, look lovely…as does David Beckham, but his wife, Posh, never smiles.
OK – Why does Harry’s military dress uniform include spurs on his shoes???
Great post, Mr Sturgeone.

The wedding ceremony isn’t for the guests. It’s a statement to the world by two savvy young people with their heads screwed on right & a clear vision of the future, not as anyone wants it to be but how it will be. A world of many colors. This is also in a way a legacy of Diana, whose spirit continues through her sons. She had many faults & troubles but her heart was true. Consensus will always be her marriage to Charles was a failure. I disagree. It succeeded in producing children who are doing genuine good. If you don’t like royalty, OK with that. Celebrate the person, not the title. They had no control over the circumstance of their birth 😉
Doria Ragland looked so alone. I feel sorry for her that her no good ex & even worse step kids took advantage of her daughter’s day. Giving Charles kudos for stepping in.
A beautiful and royal morning glory to the trail. A great day to be a commoner. I am watching the wedding from across the pond with my ‘free tv’ from the convenience of my home.
BiD – IIRC the spurs are a symbol of symbolic of his title.
The modern trend towards expanding the royal gene pool started with Diana. Now her son really is going all out on that effort.
Prince Charles looks old, real old.
Let’s hear it for a royal carriage ride. Something restricted to good people.
I am sure the commander-in-thief is pouting today as he is not the center of media attention. His ‘tarzan-speak’ twitter rants about a spy in his campaign? I am taking seriously as it is the new chant of the freedom caucus. paul ryan better be careful as he may have an ending like Qaddafi at the hands of that pesky freedom caucus.
(for the record, I did not mean to insult tarzan, but he did have that simple-speak.)
sturge…thanks for the time travel with photo.
Back to bed.
Nice touch including Lady Jane Fellowes ( Diana’s sister ) on the steps seeing the couple off. ✔
Not a fan of the horse-drawn carriage. Why not a convertible?
A convertible would be great. Something like a Lincoln or Caddie from the late 50’s. Lots of chrome.
A few names to know in the next phase of the russian investigation and the trump pushback — mifsud, roh, malloch. Remember p-los? To me? This is the dangerous phase for our democracy.
From the Atlantic — roh and malloch.
Roh and his co-author Thierry Pastor, who also knows Mifsud, write in the book that, upon arriving in New York City with his family in October 2017, “one of the co-authors” was “fished from the passport control” line at John F. Kennedy airport while his family “was retained with armed police force.” (Photos posted by Roh’s wife on social media in October 2017 suggest she was visiting New York in late October.) He was then interrogated for “hours,” they write, by “a team of Special Counsel Robert Mueller investigating Russia-Gate.” The book alleges that he and his family were then “observed, followed, and taped, at every moment and every place in New York” by the FBI and that his family was assigned to “special rooms at the hotel” while security personnel “patrolled the corridors.”
It is unclear whether Roh was actually surveilled after being interviewed—a spokesman for the special counsel’s office declined to comment. The book further alleges that Mifsud is not a Russian spy but is actually “deeply embedded in the network of Western Intelligence Services.” Papadopoulos, too, is a “western intelligence operative,” the authors assert, who was “placed” in the Trump campaign by the FBI. In that sense, the book is similar to one written recently by another obscure player detained and questioned by Mueller’s team earlier this year: Ted Malloch, a controversial London-based academic with ties to Trump associates Roger Stone and Nigel Farage. In his book The Plot to Destroy Trump: How the Deep State Fabricated the Russia Dossier to Subvert the President, Malloch argues that the apparent covert intelligence activity connected to the Trump campaign was not Russian, but Western.
More on mifsud from the bbc who has been missing of late.
Professor Mifsud too didn’t respond to Newsnight’s attempts to contact him, but has always denied that he is a spy.
When approached by Italian newspaper La Repubblica the mystery professor said: “Secret agent! I never got a penny from the Russians: my conscience is clean.”
The FBI investigation into whether Team Trump colluded with the Russians continues – but in doing so it has thrust the troubling connections of characters such as Professor Mifsud and Dr Roh into the light.
Sturg – Let’s see some more of your photos, please.
BB – Thanks for the explanation on the spurs. Now, if I could just figure out who decided to put a ruffle down the front of his jacket.
NYT on informant in trump campaign.
President Trump accused the F.B.I. on Friday, without evidence, of sending a spy to secretly infiltrate his 2016 campaign “for political purposes” even before the bureau had any inkling of the “phony Russia hoax.”
In fact, F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign. The informant, an American academic who teaches in Britain, made contact late that summer with one campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, according to people familiar with the matter. He also met repeatedly in the ensuing months with the other aide, Carter Page, who was also under F.B.I. scrutiny for his ties to Russia.
The role of the informant is at the heart of the newest battle between top law enforcement officials and Mr. Trump’s congressional allies over the F.B.I.’s most politically charged investigations in decades. The lawmakers, who say they are concerned that federal investigators are abusing their authority, have demanded documents from the Justice Department about the informant.
bill’s best line last night in the “married to the mob” segment was
“how did the salt of the earth people get hooked up with the salt in the wound people?”
patd…for the first time in years, I watched maher live. I found the clint watts segment interesting.
Message to Bink…I have been reading your ‘cutting the cord and cutting costs’ comments and called my cable provider to get rid of them. Which I did on my kitchen tv…dumping their mini-aux box. However, I did keep the main tv box because although I am on the digital economy package? They gave us 3 months free of hbo, starz and showtime. I have a $17. digital antennae on my freee tv and get all the networks in HD plus some groovy network play. Free vs. pay? I like them both. The money I am saving…going to my powerball gambling.
My only complaint about tv? Why can’t we get subtitles in english on those wonderful Spanish stations. We all might learn a second language and it would really piss-off trump supporters.
From August, 2013. Blog, War is boring. wikileaks, russia, china and snowden from five years ago…the beginning of the set-up.
Snowden began downloading documents in April of 2012 — anywhere between 20,000 and 50,000. Working as a National Security Agency systems administrator, he had the ability to create false network accounts and impersonate others, even senior officials. Far from “brilliant,” as some anonymous sources call him, that is standard for a sysadmin.
Over the next few years, he used government money to finance his training as a hacker. Then, when Snowden took his job as an infrastructure analyst with Booz Allen, his duty was to probe network security for weaknesses, which would complicate any security review of his activity. He could explain away suspicious behavior as being his job description.
In a way, Snowden was the perfect infiltrator: trusted, technically savvy, strategically minded and thinking long term. He is a goldmine to any intelligence service interested in circumventing, spoofing, avoiding, defeating or delegitimizing American espionage.
He did not seem to have any real escape plan when he went public in Hong Kong — rather than fleeing immediately to a friendly consulate where he could seek asylum, Snowden instead made the inexplicable decision to travel to Moscow.
In Hong Kong, a series of events happened, one right after the other, that suggest a deliberate move by Wikileaks to deliver Snowden to Russia. First, Snowden revealed himself, through Poitras and Greenwald, as the leaker on June 9. The next day Assange publicly praised him as a hero, and Snowden checked out of his hotel to whereabouts unknown.
Then on June 11, Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin offered to consider his asylum request. On June 19, Wikileaks said it was offering Snowden “legal counsel” and helping him “broker” his asylum in Iceland.
Speaking of pictures … some very good & some very very bad.
Here’s a picture taken a couple years ago of me and OldSeaHag…
Just got back from the first local Farmer’s Market of the year. Purchased a couple huge pork chops from a farm raised pig… and a Finnish coffee bread called Nisu (the cardamon makes all the difference!).

Teacher drowns raccoons in front of students as a lesson – yes, only in Florida
On behalf of millions of disgusted Floridians, I’d like to apologize to the rest of humanity (and also to the animal kingdom) for an exceptionally nauseating news story that appeared last week.
The dateline was Ocala, where a teacher at Forest High School was put on leave after allegedly enlisting his students to help him drown two wild raccoons and an opossum.
The animals were placed in small cages and submerged in a tub of water, where they struggled miserably for several minutes until dying. Some students became upset, and at least one secretly recorded cell-phone video of the torture.
[…..]
What important life lesson can anyone hope to teach students by involving them in such sadistic stagecraft? Who the hell knows. Maybe Brewton was just having a really bad day.
Marion prosecutors are deciding whether or not to charge him with a crime, but one thing is dead certain: If it had been a puppy or somebody’s pet Siamese that Brewton drowned in front of those kids, he would have already been booked for aggravated animal cruelty.
And the Future Farmers of America would not object.
The most beautiful bocce court in the world –Mr. Cracker is up –our wonderful neighbors are watching. The court is at Timber Cove Lodge — where the management is very welcoming to locals –but some of the guests think they are SFB and tried to order us off the property ..which is protected access from the California Coastal Commission

Recently we bought some locally produced ham — we know the pig farmers and bought directly from them – at the time I was shocked (shocked I say!!!!) at the price but when I started looking at meat prices I realized it wasn’t unreasonable at all. The price we paid was over $10.00 per pound but it was organically produced and the butcher that cured it is also a local business and a great butcher. The higher and higher gas prices here –now almost $4.00 gal are impacting food prices and not in a good way.
We don’t eat much meat mostly chicken and always local and organic so a bit on the high side anyway. Both of us have medical issues that restrict our diets — between us we can have toast.
Never tire of digging up my pic as a 14-yo with Col. Sanders
The real colonel. Love the saddle shoes
yep KG that’s the one and only original, and my grandfather, his pal, in the background. Papa was one of the Col’s first customers when he sold life insurance before getting into the chicken biz. They often celebrated each other’s birthdays together, don’t remember whose this was. I got a lot of grief at school for the saddle shoes, but I loved them.
KGC… I got a good bargain on that pork. The fella said it was from a pig he slaughtered in late February. Said he’s slaughtering 2 more in a couple weeks so he wanted to sell off what was left from that last pig. Each chop weighed about a pound… and I got the package of 2 for $4.
Yeah… getting old can suck when it comes to one’s digestive system. The lesson… eat it while you can!
renee, and how are those 2 thick pork chops to be cooked? stuffed, grilled, baked with sauerkraut or dressing or just plain ole fried? calls out for something apple-ee as a side
Take digestive enzymes, never antacids.
rr
that was a mighty big pig
throw in a few more chops and have a crown roast — fit for a royal wedding
So far today I have spent just over one boat buck ($1K) just on things like personal flotation devices ($300), gallery gear (utensils), hand tools, electric tools, power cord repair parts ($120 + $50) and sleep things (sleeping bags). That nice glass of rye with a splash of soda water was good when I got home. This is just the start. I still need required things like fire extinguishers, halon system for the engine compartment, life vests for guests, radios, GPS and chart plotter, radar upgrade and a lot more. Which will be in the 20 boat buck area. Then there is the issue of the canvas and eisenglass (windows) which will be in the 10 to 15 boat buck region. Add in another 3 boat bucks for carpeting.
When offered a “free” boat, plan on the “free” being an euphemism. When completed with the restoration the boat should be in the $75,000 to $100,000 range.
Another foreign power offered help to trump campaign to win election — and it wasn’t russia.
From NYT, great reporting. —
Three months before the 2016 election, a small group gathered at Trump Tower to meet with Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son. One was an Israeli specialist in social media manipulation. Another was an emissary for two wealthy Arab princes. The third was a Republican donor with a controversial past in the Middle East as a private security contractor.
Erik Prince, the private security contractor and the former head of Blackwater, arranged the meeting, which took place on Aug. 3, 2016. The emissary, George Nader, told Donald Trump Jr. that the crown princes who led Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were eager to help his father win election as president. The social media specialist, Joel Zamel, extolled his company’s ability to give an edge to a political campaign; by that time, the firm had already drawn up a multimillion-dollar proposal for a social media manipulation effort to help elect Mr. Trump.
It is unclear whether such a proposal was executed, and the details of who commissioned it remain in dispute. But Donald Trump Jr. responded approvingly, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting, and after those initial offers of help, Mr. Nader was quickly embraced as a close ally by Trump campaign advisers — meeting frequently with Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, and Michael T. Flynn, who became the president’s first national security adviser. At the time, Mr. Nader was also promoting a secret plan to use private contractors to destabilize Iran, the regional nemesis of Saudi Arabia and the Emirates.
After Mr. Trump was elected, Mr. Nader paid Mr. Zamel a large sum of money, described by one associate as up to $2 million. There are conflicting accounts of the reason for the payment, but among other things, a company linked to Mr. Zamel provided Mr. Nader with an elaborate presentation about the significance of social media campaigning to Mr. Trump’s victory.
More from the NYT’s article –
It is illegal for foreign governments or individuals to be involved in American elections, and it is unclear what — if any — direct assistance Saudi Arabia and the Emirates may have provided. But two people familiar with the meetings said that Trump campaign officials did not appear bothered by the idea of cooperation with foreigners.
A lawyer for Donald Trump Jr., Alan Futerfas, said in a statement that “prior to the 2016 election, Donald Trump Jr. recalls a meeting with Erik Prince, George Nader and another individual who may be Joel Zamel. They pitched Mr. Trump Jr. on a social media platform or marketing strategy. He was not interested and that was the end of it.”
Preakness – I have to go with Lone Sailor 15-1.
B.B. that sounds reasonable for the house that you envision. Don’t forget a sea anchor. Years ago when I was still a kid I really wanted to buy a PT-Boat. With those four monster Packards, I’d need at least two dozen jobs. Your project is intriguing.
RR, what about fav? BACON!!!!!
Granma Eng
taken the other day as we gardened together.
Flatus – a PT boat was a dream of mine. Just trying to imagine the ways to afford to fuel her was one path of stress. The real issue was when I learned that a sea man was sitting in the engine room to run the three engines. How to do that from the cockpit became an obsession. At least until I learned almost all of the boats were burned and sunk.
Then arose the thinking of making one from scratch.
Yeah.
Yeah.
BW,
The over-air channels i get are closed captioned- i cant watch tv without it, but your issue might be the particular tv you’re using, which ive also experienced. Anyway, glad you’re saving some money and funnelling less to NewsCorp- thank you!
(Oh- english translations of spanish CC? Yeah, can’t help you there. “Donde” is “where”, “como” is “how”… context clues for the rest, i suppose.)
Jack…..that looks like some tough dirt y’all got over there……
Escalera y martillo……ladder and hammer
They never use tools on “La Rosa De Guadalupe” 🙁
The happy couple left for the evening reception in a 1968 Jaguar convertible.
Let’s all chip in and get CC a tacky Royal Wedding souvenier, like a Harry and Meghan throw for his couch.
Patd… they are presently in my chest freezer… in a few weeks, they will be grilled.
Craig… I LOVE bacon… but the guy only had pork chops left over. The farmer’s market just started today and will run every Saturday through the middle of Oct. I’m sure there will be fresh bacon available soon.
Go Good Magic! … wouldn’t mind to see Justify win though… I’m always up for a potential triple crown winner.
BlondeW… thanks for keeping us apprised of what’s happening politically. I usually take weekends off from watching any cable news. It’s great that both you and patd keep us up to speed.
I might pick up a Meghan/Harry coffee mug if one turns up in the goodwill……
BB, free boat? Lol. A hole in the water lined with money. I pay $600 a year to not use mine. I just hope when I get her home, repair the deck under the “captain’s” chair, replace the carpet and drop it in the water the shaft packing still has enough life to keep the water out. I’ll only put 2-3 boat bucks in her (plus about 3 more for a trailer) and a bunch of hours sanding and oiling teak. And mine’s only 22’.
So was that 68 jag an XKE? One of my top 3 dream cars.
Riders UP!!!
1/4 mile visibility at Preakness, fog a rain, not sure even the TV audience will see it.
they’re off
commentators say jockeys can only see 1/16 mile
Justify!!!
just like the Derby, jockey held Justify back at 2d position until the final stretch, then stomped on the gas
Very close race. The Belmont will be an interesting race. 4 horses together at the line. Looking forward to it.
Alriiiiight! Maybe another Triple Crown Winner!
Pogo – The Jag was an E series. Silvery/blue.
Craig – If it makes you feel better, I sang “ My Country ‘Tis Of Thee,” while they sang “God Save The Queen.” Prince Phillip & his new hip looked like they were doing well.
Pogo – sharing the pain. A boat is a hole where you toss in money.
Justify is a mudder!
BB, right on all counts.
I’m keeping my ticket until the drug tests are done.
What’s a PT boat without torpedo launchers, one on each hip ? Support the right to keep and bear torpedo launchers !
Can you imagine the commotion if some gun nut sank a Carnival Line ship ?
But somehow shooting up a school is okay.
A BAD OMEN ?
The mighty Yankees squashed the lowly Royals 8 – 3
Or, does the Revolution live on ?
Down home we are proud supporters of Benton’s hams and bacon. Up the road a little piece from Knobite Corner. There are chefs in NYC who will only use Benton’s product. The company is mentioned in Southern Living magazine on a monthly basis. Benton’s bacon is fantastic. I love it, and I am no fan of bacon.
Also, the owner, Allan Benton, is in the running for World’s Nicest Man.
Didn’t watch the nuptials or the Preakness, but wish Harry, Meaghan, and Justify well in future ventures.
well, quip my pick didn’t even show but am glad that justify won due to fearless leader’s belief that his (the horse) performance equates with bobby 3 sticks’ result.
bink, we should get him prince harry & meghan bobble heads to go with the mug
