sturge, thanks. here’s a replay of some of it by daily kos in case one can’t hear KO on the link above: A-Block SPECIAL COMMENT: Bob Costas has been my friend for 40 years. He has been one of my closest professional friends for a quarter century. And now, bluntly, Bob Costas needs to shut the EFF up about Joe Biden. He has launched this extraordinary campaign — first on HBO with Bill Maher BILL MAHER IS A CORPORATE SELLOUT!!! now on CNN with that toad Michael Smerconish — demanding that Biden and his “hubris” be “shown the door” off the Presidential ticket. Bob not only has no idea that such a thing is impossible and even if it were justifiable or smart or legal, it would result in a different candidate who would lose to Trump by ten points. Bob will hear none of this. I tried, behind the scenes, for two weeks. I failed. And I failed to make it clear to Bob that Trump is ALSO trying to get Biden off the ticket and so that all Bob is accomplishing is — he’s doing Trump’s work for him. It’s heartbreaking, I’ll lose his friendship, but Bob Costas needs to shut the EFF up about Joe Biden (and that goes for Jon Stewart, Ezra Klein, and all the others who like Bob don’t realize that we have lots of historical evidence of what happens when the Democrats try to do a Julius Caesar on a sitting president. There… Read more »

speaking of jon, here’s from last night’s show

The Intercept’s Murtaza Hussain and Yair Rosenberg of The Atlantic discuss with Jon Stewart how peace may be possible between Israel and Palestine, the United States’ involvement in the Middle East, and how the two journalists can have honest conversations even when they disagree.

and here’s stephen

Donald Trump must come up with hundreds of millions of dollars before he can appeal the ruling in his New York civil fraud case, his GOP primary opponent is staying in the race despite losing her home state of South Carolina, and the former president defended his mental acuity in a speech to conservatives.

more from last night’s late night comedians Taylor Swift endorsement ‘classified’, jokes Joe Biden on Seth Meyers | Joe Biden | The Guardian Joe Biden joked that a potential 2024 endorsement by Taylor Swift is “classified” as he made a rare media appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Biden’s arrival was apparently a surprise to the audience. He stepped on stage after the announced guest – the comedian and actor Amy Poehler – noted that Biden when vice-president had been a guest on Meyers’s first show. Poehler said she could get him to return, prompting Biden to enter. “It’s good to be back,” Biden told Meyers. “Why haven’t you invited me earlier?” Going into this year’s presidential election, Biden is seeking additional ways to reach out to voters, having largely avoided White House press conferences and on-the-record sit-down interviews. Biden also skipped the traditional pre-Super Bowl presidential interview. Biden has faced criticism as the most media shy president of modern times. Since taking office he has done 86 interviews, compared with 300 by Trump and 422 by Barack Obama at the same point in their presidencies, according to data collected by the nonpartisan White House Transition Project. During the interview, Meyers quizzed Biden about a conspiracy theory spread among some conservatives that Swift and Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce are part of an elaborate plot to help Democrats win the November election. “Can you confirm or deny that there is an active conspiracy between you and Miss Swift?” Meyers asked. “Where… Read more »

But on CNN over the weekend Costas said Trump “is by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history. You have to be in the throes of some sort of toxic delusion in a toxic cult, to believe that Donald Trump has ever been in any sense, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit to be president of the United States.”

“
The Michigan primary on Tuesday will not only assess President Joe Biden’s strength in a key battleground state, but also serve as a litmus test on the president’s refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.”

I know it’s just a primary, but the “uncommitted” sitting in their hands to send Biden a message about US support for Israel?
This only emboldens tRUMPsky.

Why aren’t they pushing for help closer to Gaza?   Egypt and Saudi Arabia aren’t helping/have never welcomed Palestinians.   Do they think an eventual tRUMPsky presidency would be better? Do they not remember the Muslim travel ban?

POTUS Joe does do well in a forum like Seth’s show.  He’s really engaging.

I hope Seth doesn’t have to give Orange Adolf equal time.  Don’t need any more of his crazy bloviating than is already out there.
Biden/Harris 2024

May Taylor Swift be invited to POTUS Joe’s next inaugural ball, just to drive the MAGAts over the edge of their flat Earth.

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4472591-trump-opts-against-appealing-civil-immunity-claim-in-jan-6-lawsuits-to-supreme-court/

“Former President Trump and his legal team have decided against appealing a court’s decision that found he is not immune from civil lawsuits that blame him for the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, after they previously signaled he would file an appeal.”

“Trump’s decision to not take his broader immunity claim to the Supreme Court means lawsuits seeking to hold him accountable for his role on Jan. 6 can move forward.”

“Two former U.S. Capitol Police officers and several Democratic lawmakers sued the current GOP front-runner in 2021 over a law barring the use of force, threats or intimidation that would prevent government officials from carrying out their duties.”

Why do these guys always lie even under oath?

“Chesebro appears to have pursued a legally perilous path in his dealings with Michigan authorities,” said Ryan Goodman, a law professor at New York University, who reviewed the posts for CNN. “The Twitter posts strongly suggest Chesebro committed the crime of making false statements to investigators… his entire cooperation agreement may now fall apart.”

Wow! Government that functions! Who would have thunk it.

From Task and Purpose, a military news site

The Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding access to government healthcare for millions of veterans years earlier than expected, officials announced Monday.
Beginning March 5, former troops will be able to sign up for VA-sponsored healthcare without having to first apply for VA benefits. Eligibility will apply to veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other combat zone after 9/11, as well as veterans who never deployed but were also exposed to toxins or hazards during service, the VA said in a press release.

Oh thats right, Democrats doing an excellent job governing isn’t news.

Those of us who lived under the rule of Roy Moore recall that most of his antics were for the purpose of attention-getting and fundraising. Tom Parker is his spawn.

“Parker is no stranger to church-state debates. He served as former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s spokesperson during fights over a Ten Commandments monument Moore erected inside the building housing the Supreme Court.”

“Last night Speaker Sexton silenced me for calling out an anti-immigrant resolution.”

“Their rhetoric honoring Texas’ immoral border policies and attacking migrants mirrors the neo-Nazis who marched in Nashville.”

“The Tennessee House is rolling out the welcome mat for hate groups.”

Which is why there was a neo-nutzi March there last week. They covered their faces with black masks instead of white hoods, but they were still cowards who would t show their faces. Probably police officers and other ~upright~citizens.

“A veteran human rights campaigner who criticized the war in Ukraine was convicted Tuesday by a Moscow court of “repeatedly discrediting” the Russian military and sentenced to 2½ years in prison.”

“Oleg Orlov, 70, co-chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights group Memorial, had rejected the case against him as politically motivated, saying in his closing statement: “I don’t regret anything and I don’t repent anything.” He also denounced the war again.

That’s too bad about Bob Costas.  Yeah… he’s a sportscaster… but he’s always been outspoken.  One thing he has hammered on… despite knowing he’d take a lot of heat for it…  is the need for more gun control in this country.  But now it sounds like he’s losing his mind.

Personally…  I wish that sports would be about the play on the field.

They had an election. Biden won it

They had another election.  Biden won that, too

That’s how this works.  You don’t throw out a proven winner (and the choice of a democratic electorate) for an untested hypothetical candidate

But saying you should sure gets some press, eh?

Oh, i did some cursory research and most Presidents live well past 90, these days- their wives, too

that healthcare must be fantastic!

i’m old, Carter was PotUs before i was born, and he is STILL ALlVE, that’s how good their healthcare is.

It’s not some freaky coincidence that somehow men who are all genetically-predisposed to a long life somehow married women of the same genetic predisposition AND THEN somehow all became President, it’s the healthcare, and Biden is on the same plan

unfortunately so is that other ——————

Jack Smith rips comparison of Biden and Trump docs handling Trump claimed that Biden did the same thing he did with the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Jack Smith’s team just replied with the following to the court: “There has never been a case in American history in which a former official has engaged in conduct remotely similar to Trump’s.  – He intentionally took possession of a vast trove of some of the nation’s most sensitive documents—documents so sensitive that they were presented to the President—and stored them in unsecured locations at his heavily trafficked social club.  – When the National Archives and Records Administration (“NARA”) initially sought their return (before learning that they contained classified national defense information), Trump delayed, obfuscated, and dissembled.  – Faced with the possibility of legal action, he ostensibly agreed to comply with NARA’s requests but in fact engaged in additional deception, returning only a fraction of the documents in his possession while claiming that his production was complete.  – Then, when presented with a grand jury subpoena demanding the return of the remaining documents bearing classification markings, Trump attempted to enlist his own attorney in the corrupt endeavor, suggesting that he falsely tell the FBI and grand jury that Trump did not have any documents, and suggesting that his attorney hide or destroy documents rather than produce them to the government.  – Failing in his effort to corrupt the attorney, Trump enlisted his trusted body man, codefendant Waltine Nauta, in a scheme to deceive the… Read more »

Bink, you’re old? Carter was elected President the year I got my Master’s Degree. I LITERALLY have tee shirts as old as you if you were born after Carter was elected.  I even still have a well traveled backpack and stove that I bought 3 or 4 years before Carter ran for President. That backpack has outlasted the knees that carried it 900 miles from Georgia to West Virginia the year Carter was elected.
