Happy Last Day of Diwali

Considering current conditions, we may also be in the last days of what Diwali symbolizes “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”.

The antisemitic and anti-Islamic hordes of hatred this week probably added another, but larger, anti to their list given the millions who celebrate the festival including Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists as well as Hindus.

  1. America’s favorite couple Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce brought their romance on tour to her concert in Argentina, Sen. Tim Scott dropped out of the presidential race, and Donald Trump is planning a second term fueled by revenge.

  2. light at the end of the tuberville tunnel?

Senate panel will move resolution Tuesday to break Tuberville’s hold on military nominees  | The Hill

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced Monday that the Senate Rules Committee will mark up a resolution Tuesday to confirm more than 350 nonpolitical military promotions at once, circumventing a hold that Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R) has had in place for nine months to protest the Pentagon’s abortion policy.

The Democratic leader said once the Rules Committee approves the measure, he will bring it to the Senate floor for a vote “as soon as possible.”

good example of “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”.

  4. craig, yep the genius of the stable is fading fast and heading for the glue factory. in one aspect of the prez horserace, the older nag is beating the younger nag by the knows.

last thread pogo pointed out how punkin head’s failed even the preliminaries for cognizant septuagenarians:

Every time I go in for my yearly checkup the nurse asks me a series of questions to see whether I can outsmart the mental status exam.

    What’s your birthdate?
    What’s my name?
    What year is it?
    Who is the president?
    What town are we in?

There are a couple/three others, but she always asks those.  Dumbass has missed 2 of them in the past week.

  5. Ex-Fox News reporter alleges he was fired for opposing “false” Jan. 6 coverage

Jason Donner, who worked for the network for 12 years before he was terminated, alleges he was let go because of his political views and “his refusal to report false information” about the 2020 election and the Capitol riot. — AXIOS

    From the complaint:
“The toxic environment for Fox News’ reporters attempting to report truthfully reached its peak after the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, as Fox News’ desire to placate their viewers overwhelmed the need to report truthfully on the facts. …  Once the insurrectionists breached the Capitol, Donner [the plaintiff] and other reporters took refuge in the news booths. While the U.S. Capitol was starting to be attacked, Fox News reported that the insurrectionists were “peaceful.”

“When Donner heard Fox News’ false reporting of the Insurrection at the Capitol, he called the Fox News’ control room and stated, “I’m your Capitol Hill Producer inside the Capitol where tear gas is going off on the second floor in the Ohio clock corridor, rioters are storming the building, reports of shots fired outside the House Chamber. I don’t want to hear any of this fucking shit on our air ever again because you’re gonna get us all killed.”

“In late October of 2021, Donner complained to D.C. Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton about Tucker Carlson’s false statements regarding January 6th. Donner stated that the Fox Nation program, Patriot Purge, consisted of nothing but conspiracy theories proven to be false. Donner told Boughton that it was demoralizing that Fox News would allow Carlson to gaslight the country with false information, especially in light of the fact that Fox News reporters were present in the Capitol on January 6th, witnessed what happened at the Capitol, and were endangered by the insurrectionists. Boughton replied along the lines that people were upset, but there was “nothing they could do because Tucker had gotten bigger than the network and was out of control. The executives could not stop him.”

“On or about October 29, 2021, just prior to the release of Patriot Purge, Donner worked with Jennifer Griffin on a story debunking the false claims in Patriot Purge. Patriot Purge was released despite the fact that Fox News knew it contained false information. Then Fox News began to discriminate and retaliate against Donner. Specifically, Donner’s new supervisor, NuNu Japaridze accused Doinner of creating a “toxic environment.” Dumbfounded by the accusation, Donner pressed JaParidze for details and to substantiate the accusation. She could not. Instead, she offered conclusory criticisms, such as Donner needing “more self-awareness when talking during zoom meetings” and counseling him on the “importance of sending out editorial guidance.”

“On September 28, 2022, was fired, told it was because he was late for work and did not show up for work. Donner asked for examples, and was told “we don’t need any”

  6. LP’s latest

Jenna Ellis admits it herself: it was a coup from the start. Trump knew he lost, yet he still tried his hardest to illegally maintain power.

  7. SERIES 2 EPISODE 73: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN
A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump IS our Hitler. I posited this as early as 2016 and stated it in this series in September, 2022. But some bridge was crossed over the weekend, something happened that was so bad that even The Washington Post sat up and took notice. And now, suddenly, the forces of Groupthink and Conventional Wisdom and The Run On The Bank and The Fear Of Coming In Last On The New Big Beat have all aligned – and for once, for good.
Trump is Hitler. Not Hitler 1940, not Hitler 1938. But Hitler 1933? The last moment at which he could have been stopped before he unleashed the cataclysms of European destruction and the holocaust.
That’s where we are with Trump. And a bevy of his quotes FINALLY broke through: calling his enemies vermin and promising to root them out and echoing Hitler’s “ein Volk” speech, while at the same time his evil psychotic henchmen let one too many detail leak about plans to vet every significant military leader so he could count on the army, and his plan to build concentration camps for migrants (and oh by the way anybody who would defend them) and his attempts to get Mo Brooks to demand a new election and his reinstallation as president LAST YEAR and some kind of an overthrow of the Biden regime – all came out simultaneously.
To say nothing of the video proffers that got Jenna Ellis and Sidney Powell their Georgia plea deals, full of previously sourced stories that will now have witness testimony about seizing voting machines and “the boss is not going to leave” and suddenly a million light bulbs have gone off around the media: TRUMP REALLY MEANS TO TAKE POWER AND NEVER GIVE IT UP.
It just might, just might not be too late. But we have to advance it, and the way you and I can do so directly is to use the words. Suspend Godwin’s law and the Survivors’ Law (there is only one Hitler – it’s Hitler) by making sure there really IS only one Hitler. We must call Trump Hitler. We must call them Nazis. We must get President Biden to call them Nazis.
We must make people realize that stopping Trump is essential to saving freedom and democracy in this nation. Because it is. And the first group – the media – just began to wake up to it.

  8. Plumpty Dumpty may be slipping Obama’s name into his speeches intentionally. My MAGA friends are completely convinced Joe is off in a corner dribbling into his drool bib and Obama is doing all the presidenting. The slips reinforce that notion.

  9. There will be crematoriums in those camps, gas chambers too. Horrifying but not out of the realm of their malignant fantasies.
The only surprise will be how many Americans sign up for that work.

  10. Bob Dylan Builds Gates.
    https://www.bradleysmetalfinishers.com/project-s/bob-dylan-gate/

Said Dylan: ‘I’ve been around iron all my life ever since I was a kid. I was born and raised in iron ore country-where you could breathe it and smell it every day. And I’ve always worked with it in one form or another. Gates appeal to me because of the negative space they allow. They can be closed but at the same time they allow the seasons and breezes to enter and flow. They can shut you out or shut you in. And in some ways there is no difference.”

In a dangerous move, Donald Trump just reposted a statement calling for a citizen’s arrest of AG James and Judge Engoron. New York law only allows for a citizen’s arrest when a person has ‘in fact’ committed a felony in the presence of that citizen.

  12. Most of my neighbors are from India, so the strands  of lights have been up and there have been fireworks, both noisemakers at home and a large display a few miles from here.   The lights just stay up until after Christmas, which is nice.

  13. That Dylan fella seems to have a few talents I didn’t know about.  I kinda thought that his talent was music and poetry.

  14. My book club meets tonight and I’m nowhere near finished the huge book but it’s situated in India. So much to read, so much to learn. India is endlessly fascinating.
    The Book:

A shimmering evocation of a bygone India and of the passage of time itself, The Covenant of Water is a hymn to progress in medicine and to human understanding, and a humbling testament to the difficulties undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today. It is one of the most masterful literary novels published in recent years.

  15. VASCAR – I bet you can find one of those in a flea market near you.  No potential for abuse error there. I may have seen that on Star Trek – I think it was the warp speedometer.

  16. VASCAR was the toy of the decade for Security Police on Air Force bases.  They put the fear into everybody.  But, and I point this out even today, you should never speed on any government property, not just military bases.

Boosted again, the nurse was kind enough to add it to my “always carry this with you” CDC shot record, by hand.  The flu shot was the bonus for the day.

Finally, have lawn, home and odd job company (actually a family) to care for things around here.  With another shoulder surgery on the horizon I am leaving the home DIY business behind.  I will do some things but much less than before.

  17. https://gothamist.com/news/how-is-mayor-adams-paying-for-his-legal-fees-for-the-federal-probe-into-his-campaign-finances

“New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Tuesday that he may use campaign donations to cover some of his legal fees related to an apparent federal corruption investigation into his campaign that is reportedly linked to illegal donations from Turkish officials.”

Using (allegedly) illegal campaign donations to pay for his legal fees for the investigation into illegal campaign donations? Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha! Nope!

“It’s going to be a combination of out-of-pocket with me or whatever the law allows me to do,” Adams said during a packed press conference at City Hall where he was peppered with questions about the investigation. He said a compliance attorney would determine whether the campaign could pay for his legal fees.”

“But campaign funds for a city office can only be used in civil cases, according to John Kaehny, executive director of Reinvent Albany, a New York-based good government group. “A campaign cannot use campaign funds in a criminal matter,” he said.

  18. https://www.newsweek.com/house-speaker-mike-johnson-financial-disclosure-ethics-complaint-1843407

“End Citizens United, a grassroots progressive political group, has written to the Office of Congressional Ethics and asked them to look into Johnson’s finances over claims he has “blatantly omitted” reportable information and made numerous errors in several of his filings since he was first elected to Congress in 2016.”

“Among some of the key allegations from the group are that the newly elected House Speaker failed to disclose multiple trips paid for by private entities and did not fully report the source of his wife’s income, nor her ownership interests in a privately-held business.”

Is MAGAt Mike a dirty, dirty boy?

“The Office of Congressional Ethics has also been asked to investigate Johnson for failing to list having a personal bank account on his financial disclosure, or disclosing any retirement assets. It was previously reported that Johnson never listed having a savings or checking account in his or his wife Kelly’s name, or in the name of any of his children.”

“In a recent interview with Fox News, Johnson was asked why he has not declared a bank account or assets on a financial disclosure going back to 2016. In response, Johnson replied: “I’m a man of modest means.”

  19. The guy from the Teamsters looked like Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, but he probably could’ve kicked that fake cowboy back to his district Oklahoma.
Props to Bernie for using his pointing finger to get everyone to simmer down.

  20. BiD if I heard correctly the fake cowboy Mullin was a high school and college wrestler and some sort of professional MMA dude before he came to the Senate. The Gym Jordan of the Senate.

  21. We should really screen for MMA activity like colon polyps. I had to laugh when he pretended he was going to take off his wedding ring to go fight the guy.   I still think the Teamster who looked like a muppet could’ve taken him.  That loser wins for having the okie-est name in Congress.

McCarthy was the only one who got a shot in this week; he dinged someone in the kidneys.

With folks not being able to control themselves, I hope they aren’t carrying on the floor.

Are the Teamsters still mobbed up?
