“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”

The Senate voted Tuesday to advance a short-term funding measure to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the week.
The Senate voted 77 to 19 to advance the legislative vehicle they will use for a continuing resolution funding government until Nov. 17.
The vote puts the Senate on a path to pass a continuing resolution (CR) later this week that it could then send to the House to avoid a shutdown on Oct. 1.
The House has been stuck on how to move forward with funding the government amid disputes among Republicans in the majority.
If the Senate does approve a CR, it could put pressure on the House to bring it to the floor and avoid a shutdown, particularly in the lower chamber has not made much progress on its own.
The Senate legislation will fund the federal government until Nov. 17, the week before Thanksgiving, and provide approximately $6.15 billion in funding for Ukraine and $5.99 billion in disaster assistance.
The legislation will also temporarily extend the expiring authority of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Senate leaders kept the details of the legislation secret until shortly before Tuesday’s vote as lawmakers wrestled behind the scenes over adding money for Ukraine
The vote shows that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) are largely on the same page in wanting to avoid a shutdown that would suspend a litany of government services and furlough of thousands of government workers.
Schumer on Tuesday afternoon described the bill as a “bridge” to buy negotiators more time to hash out a longer-term deal to fund the government.
“Senate Democrats and Republicans, together, worked in good faith to reach an agreement on a continuing resolution that will keep the government open beyond Sept. 30,” the Democratic leader said on the floor.
He acknowledged the agreement “won’t have everything that both sides want” but argued it “will help us to achieve our immediate and necessary goal of avoiding a government shutdown.”
Schumer praised his Republican colleagues for working with Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) over the weekend.
“The funding levels continue at the same level as before. There is $6.1 billion for Ukraine on the defense side and the State Department side. There is $6 billion for disaster relief,” Schumer announced. “This is not going to be the final proposal for the whole year.”
McConnell urged his Republican colleagues to pass the funding measure to dodge a shutdown that would only be “bad news” for his party.
“At midnight on Sunday, current appropriations will run out and the federal government will shut down. Over the years, I’ve been pretty clear in my view that government shutdowns are bad news whichever way you look at them.”

So the gambit is the Senate votes to pass its short term bill and sends it to the House where McCarthy refuses to put it on the floor for a vote or risk a petition to vacate from, say, Matt Gaetz, then the fate of the bill shifts to Democrats to put a discharge petition on the floor to try and force a vote, which if it occurs will need 6 votes from semi-sane Republicans voting yes with all the Democrats to pass and go to President. Biden to pass and keep gov’t open until November 17? Have I got that right?
Kev,
“It’d be concerning to me that there would be people in the Republican Party that will take the position of President Biden against what the rest of Americans want,” McCarthy said Tuesday. “I don’t understand how, at the end of the day, they would stay in that lane.”
77-19 in the Senate, Kev. But nice try at spin.
The federal judge’s ruling yesterday in the New York civil fraud case hits pumpkin head where it hurts. Veteran business reporter David Kay Johnston: “This is basically telling Donald Trump and his family you are unfit to do business in the state New York, and based on these findings of persistent fraud my guess is he will have difficulty doing business in most any other state”
From ruling opinion: “In defendant Trump’s world: rent-regulated apartments are worth the same as unregulated apartments; restricted land is worth the same as unrestricted land; a disclaimer by one party on another exonerates the other party’s lies,” Judge Engoron wrote. “That is a fantasy, not real”
Among judge’s many findings of fraud: For a loan on another property Trump claimed he paid cash for Mar-A-Lago but actually he had financed 100% of it, and got the bank not to record it so he could list the property as debt-free in his financial statement.
Also in the findings: Trump defended one of his overvaluations by claiming that he had a buyer in Saudi Arabia who would pay “any price” he chose.
The Trump business plan
will he and his gold toilet be thrown out of TTower? looking forward to the blow by blw coverage.
All of this fraud was well known in real estate circles for decades but simply ignored as being similar to what others do. Trump’s crimes are just so egregious that they could no longer be overlooked if for no other reason than being way and above what sent Kushner’s dad to jail.
Whether the effect of Justice Engoron’s ruling is any different remains to be seen. But his finding imperils both Mr. Trump’s public image and his business empire. The former president now faces not only the prospect of having to pay $250 million in damages, but he could also lose properties like Trump Tower that are inextricably linked to his brand.
Mr. Trump’s lawyer in the case, Christopher M. Kise, called the ruling “outrageous” and said the decision would be appealed. He called it “completely disconnected from the facts and governing law.”
“The decision seeks to nationalize one of the most successful corporate empires in the United States and seize control of private property all while acknowledging there is zero evidence of any default, breach, late payment or any complaint of harm,” Mr. Kise said.

I was expecting a lot of BS (in all caps) flowing out of wherever the orange moron is hiding right now. Not enough to qualify as a dairy barn floor after milking. He did send his addled head son out to do some typing, that went as expected.
I am sure his legal fools told him all will be right in appeals. Yeah, that is a good one too.
Pumpkin Head is exploding (luv the complaint about “no jury” — he asked for a bench trial!)

I have a Deranged, Trump Hating Judge, who RAILROADED this FAKE CASE through a NYS Court at a speed never seen before, refusing to let it go to the Commercial Division, where it belongs, denying me everything, No Trial, No Jury. He made up this crazy “KILL TRUMP” decision, assigning insanely low values to properties, despite overwhelming evidence. AS AN EXAMPLE, HE VALUES THE MOST SPECTACULAR PROPERTY IN PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, MAR-A-LAGO, AT $18,000,000, WHEN IT IS WORTH POSSIBLY 100 TIMES THAT AMOUNT. His anger & hatred is politically motivated & unprecedented by those who watched! My actual Net Worth is MUCH GREATER than the number shown on the Financial Statements, a BIG SURPRISE to him & the Racist A.G., Letitia James, who campaigned for office on a get Trump Platform. While murderers roam the sidewalks of New York, my banks are happy, all loans are current, or paid off in full, sometimes early, with no defaults or problems of any kind. There is also an IRONCLAD DISCLAIMER CLAUSE!

I’m glad Tommy and Dicky Smothers are still here to see all this.
Guys in Prison are frantically re-working their defense strategies.
Regardless, “They’re just out to get me” is NOT a valid defense.
It seems to me this judge’s demonstrative rhetoric is exactly the way you don’t address a grandiose malignant narcissist without further inflaming him. That’s what we’re witnessing. There’s no easy way to bring a narcissist down a peg or two. It’s going to take a lot more of that until he crashes and it won’t be pretty. It won’t feel like our regular form of justice.
IMO, trump’s biggest mistake was to run for prez. If he hadn’t let his ego run amok and then actually won… I would have bet hard money that he would have gotten away with all his financial fraud.
When I first saw that Cassidy Hutchinson had written a book, my first reaction was… I applaud your testimony but I won’t spend my hard earned money on it. After seeing her on Lawrence O’Donnel’s show last night, I’m going to the local independent bookstore today to buy it.
Not an exact quote but George Conway last night said two groups who saw this coming since 2015 were students of psychology and students of history.
Trump biographer Tim O’Brien (MSNBC): “If Trump had just kept all the properties inherited from his father, instead of eventually selling them all to pay for money–losing projects, he really would be the multi billionaire he has always falsely claimed to be. … If you cannot make money running a casino it is hard to qualify as a good businessman. … Donald Trump is a man who was born on third base and spent the rest of his life telling everyone he hit a triple”
oh yeah… there’s another debate tonight…
Republican debate. “Stuff left on milking room floor after milking is done”
Since Republicans like indicted politicians so much they could invite Menendez to switch parties and take control of the Senate.
OMG.
Craig… IMO… that’s a very tricky thing for Menendez. If he is counting on getting away with it again and running for re-election… will the Republicans actually support him. After all… he’s a corrupt Dem… but he’s a Dem for a reason. Is Menendez stupid enough to allow himself to be used. Obviously he is for financial gain… but what gain would he get as a Republican.
IMO… Republican voters will not support him because he’s actually a Dem. And his Democratic voters won’t support him if he switches parties. If he has any sense of honor… he won’t do it… but at this point… who knows.
Looks like ol sfb found his pace and is back in the typing pool. Here is hoping he types something beyond his current garbage. Too bad he is so stupid, just think how much trash he could type if he was sane.

Remember when Racist New York State Attorney General, Letitia “Peekaboo” James, went after former Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, only to announce that she was going to run for Governor, and she did, but got trounced in the Polls, getting almost ZERO, and quitting the race? She then went back to being A.G. were she said she would happily continue to “GET TRUMP,” even though her original plan was to use the Trump Witch Hunt to become Governor. She even quickly convinced a Trump Hating Judge that my assets were valued too high and I was using totally “Disclaimered Financial Statements” to take advantage of highly sophisticated & well represented Banks & Insurance Companies, who got & get back ALL of their money, “no babies they!” This highly partisan Democrat “Judge” (All the Clubs, etc.) just ruled that Mar-a-Lago was WORTH just 18 Million Dollars when, in fact, it may be worth 100 times that amount. James convinced him, likewise, on other assets. THIS IS A NEW YORK POLITICAL SCAM!!!

Trump post to his followers today: “This political hack judge must be stopped. I have had very unfair judges since entering politics, but nobody has been as unhinged as this guy.”
He has met his match and nothing inflames a self-loathing malignant narcissist more.
“And finally, I want to extend my deepest appreciation to Liz Cheney. Liz reminds us that true leadership is grounded in principle, and that change can be achieved through unyielding loyalty to our democratic ideals. May this book serve as a testament to the transformative power of leaders like Liz, who inspire us to be agents of the truth in our republic, and beyond. That we, as individuals, are enough.”
