The Guardian:

Ukraine has issued a postage stamp with a reproduction of a Banksy mural depicting a boy defeating a grown man in judo, to mark the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

It was painted by the British street artist on a demolished wall in the town of Borodianka, north-west of Kyiv, where many buildings were reduced to rubble by Russian aircraft at the start of the invasion.

The image draws inspiration from the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, known to be a black belt in judo, and depicts a young judoka representing Ukraine knocking down a grown man.

The phrase “Get lost Putin” has been added to the lower left part of the new stamp.

Residents of the capital flocked to buy the new stamps on Friday from Kyiv’s main post office.

Pence breaks with DeSantis over Ukraine position: Putin will not stop at Ukraine | The Hill

In an interview with NBC News after the speech, Pence was asked about DeSantis’s views: Earlier this week, the Florida governor expressed opposition to open-ended support for Ukraine while casting doubt on the prospect that Russia would seek to invade other countries.
“The fear of Russia going into NATO countries and all that and steamrolling, you know, that has not even come close to happening,” DeSantis said on Fox News.
“I would say anyone that thinks that Vladimir Putin will stop at Ukraine is wrong,” Pence told NBC News, referring to DeSantis’s earlier remarks.
“We need to understand the real long-term threat of renewed Russian aggression in Europe,” he continued. “And I hold the view that it will not stop there.”
Pence in Friday’s speech said Putin bore responsibility for the war, and he cautioned that there can be “no room in the leadership of the Republican Party for apologists for Putin.”

McConnell calls Ukraine aid a ‘direct investment’ for US against Putin’s ‘war machine’ | The Hill

“As my fellow leading Republicans and I have explained, it is not an act of charity for the United States and our NATO allies to help supply the Ukrainian people’s self-defense,” he said. “It is a direct investment in our own core national interests.”
McConnell added that the United States has largely been sending older weapons from its stockpile, allowing the U.S. to replenish its inventory with more modern versions of what’s being sent abroad.
“If Putin were given a green light to destabilize Europe, invading and killing at will, the long-term cost to the United States in both dollars and security risks would be astronomically higher than the miniscule fraction of our GDP that we have invested in Ukraine’s defense thus far,” he said.
He called on the Biden administration and U.S. allies to act more decisively in ensuring that their combined assistance to Ukraine and investments in their own militaries happen at the “speed of relevance.” He said experience has shown that weakness and hesitation are what provokes Putin to act.
“The road to peace lies in speedily surging Ukraine the tools they need to achieve victory as they define it,” McConnell said.

The country has shown strong bipartisan support for helping Ukraine throughout much of the war over the past year, but some GOP members of Congress — such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) — have called for ending U.S. aid to Ukraine.
“We don’t pay taxes to fund foreign country’s wars who aren’t even NATO ally’s,” Greene tweeted Monday.

  5. MTG & Boebert running the House is absolutely terrifying.  Time for the Democrats to try to recruit the moderate GOP members if any are left.

  6. It is starting to look like the gqp is going to have one heck of good fight over support for facist/nazi/russia/putin or Ukraine.  What I would like to see, if it is already out there please help with a link, which of the fourteen traitors who spend the 4th of July in Moscow, are stating Ukraine should give up and be russian.

A lot going on.  Still have not made my stuffed cabbage leaves.  I have not gotten to the store to buy the meat, bu maybe later or tomorrow.

  7. BB, is this the story what you wanted? it’s dated july 5, 2018

GOP senators visited Moscow on July 4, warned Russia against meddling in 2018 election: report | The Hill

A group of GOP lawmakers spent July 4 in Moscow after several days of meetings with Russian officials, according to NPR.
The group, which included seven Republican senators and one House member, was the first congressional delegation to visit Russia since the country’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
The GOP lawmakers, Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), Steve Daines (Mont.), John Thune (S.D.), John Kennedy (La.), Jerry Moran (Kan.) and John Hoeven (N.D.), and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), spent July 4 in Moscow’s U.S. Embassy, NPR reported.
The trip comes amid bilateral planning between the U.S. and Russia for next month’s sit-down between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has said he will address Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election at the summit, in addition to Russia’s military involvement in Syria and Ukraine.
The lawmakers reportedly discussed Russian influence in U.S. elections during their meetings over the past week, but Moran told The Associated Press that every Russian official they spoke to denied the Kremlin’s involvement.
The group’s visit coincided with the release of a Senate Intelligence Committee report, which found that Russia backed Trump during the election.
The report, released Tuesday, confirmed conclusions by the U.S. intelligence community that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump win the White House.
“I think it’s a given in the United States, in both parties, that Russia tried to meddle and probably did meddle in the election,” Shelby told the AP.

News outlets demand access to Jan. 6 footage McCarthy gave to Tucker Carlson
The lawmakers did not meet with Putin, but offered a warning for Russia against meddling in the 2018 U.S. elections.
“We made the point that if Russia persists in trying to influence our elections, it’s going to be very difficult, if not impossible, for us to establish a better relationship,” Kennedy said to NPR.
“We didn’t come here to say, what you’ve been doing is great, and we’re going to look the other way,” Shelby told NPR. “We came here to talk candidly and honestly. The Russians can earn a better relationship with the U.S. if they want to.”

  8. and here’s one from a year ago:

Relax, Senate Republicans, there will still be time to visit Moscow on the 4th of July (dailykos.com)

I know you’re worried about this Ukraine stuff, Senators. It’s put a real crimp in your plans. But this should all blow over by the 4th of July. You can still enjoy the Bolshoi and rub elbows with Putin’s gang of mafia oligarchs and their stooges (the ones who are still alive, that is). Seriously, go ahead and book your tickets, just like you did four years ago. The American people will understand.
After all, as Sen. Ron Johnson put it, it’s all about “freedom.” Seriously, what better way to express your freedom than hop on a jet and spend America’s independence day in sunny Moscow?
As Dana Milbank, writing for the Washington Post, commented at the time:
For the Wisconsin Republican, it meant, specifically, the freedom to spend July 4 in Moscow with seven other Republican lawmakers posing for propaganda photos with Russian officials. On the same day it was reported in Britain  that two more people had been poisoned by a Russian nerve agent British officials say came from Vladimir Putin’s regime. On the day after the Senate Intelligence Committee affirmed the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia interfered in the election to help Donald Trump.
You didn’t get to see Putin that day, but I have it on good authority he’ll be waiting with open arms for your arrival this summer.
And hey, that 2018 trip wasn’t a total bust. C’mon—y’all have pictures, right?

  9. patd – getting close.  I would like to see their thoughts in the last, say, six months.  I am sure they have putties cell phone number in case they need to know what to say. All of them have not been good Americans and are worth having their stinking lives exposed. Especially that phony John Kennedy (spoiler of a decent name).

Interesting side dish – The Ukraine Army people, and others in the business of killing Russians (cold ones deserve the big “R”), use some creative cover names.  I just got a follower who is using a British writer from the Seventeen hundreds.  Why?  Good question, I think we have to wait for peace to find out.

  10. https://www.axios.com/2023/02/25/east-palestine-train-derailment-michigan-texas

“Officials in Texas and Michigan are raising concerns about the water and soil transported from the East Palestine train derailment into their jurisdictions.”

“I learned about this not from a regulatory agency, not from the company, but from a member of the press, and that’s unacceptable,” Hidalgo noted, adding that she only learned Thursday that the water actually began arriving a week ago.

There is no “away” to throw toxic stuff.

  11. The next thing Biden needs to to is to look at all regulations that were rolled back under tRUMPsky, as well as anyone appointed to the EPA by the former guy.

This is a prime example of where Dems falter.   It may seem like a small thing, but it’s not to folks in that community.  If you believe everyone matters, then act like it.   Call it poor messaging, but actions speak louder than words.
