“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad." "How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

  1. meanwhile in other parts of the world

    wapo:

ZALIZNYCHNE, Ukraine — In the end, the Russians fled any way they could on Friday, on stolen bicycles, disguised as locals. Hours after Ukrainian soldiers poured into the area, hundreds of Russian soldiers encamped in this village were gone, many after their units abandoned them, leaving behind stunned residents to face the ruins of 28 weeks of occupation.

“They just dropped rifles on the ground,” Olena Matvienko said Sunday as she stood, still disoriented, in a village littered with ammo crates and torched vehicles, including a Russian tank loaded on a flatbed. The first investigators from Kharkiv had just pulled in to collect the bodies of civilians shot by Russians, some that have been lying exposed for months.

“I can’t believe that we went through something like this in the 21st century,” Matvienko said, tears welling.
The hasty flight of Russians from the village was part of a stunning new reality that took the world by surprise over the weekend: The invaders of February are on the run in some parts of Ukraine they seized early in the conflict.

The Russian Defense Ministry’s own daily briefing Sunday featured a map showing Russian forces retreating behind the Oskil river on the eastern edge of the Kharkiv region — a day after the ministry confirmed its troops had left the Balakliya and Izyum area in the Kharkiv region, following a decision to “regroup.”

On Sunday, Ukraine’s commander in chief, Valery Zaluzhny, said Ukrainian forces had retaken more than 3,000 square kilometers (more than 1,100 square miles) of territory, a claim that could not be independently verified, adding that they were advancing to the east, south and north.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declined to elaborate on his army’s next moves, except to say in a CNN interview, “We will not be standing still. We will be slowly, gradually moving forward.”

In a forceful statement to Russia on Sunday night, Zelensky insisted the invaders would be expelled. “Read my lips,” he said. “Without gas or without you? Without you. Without light or without you? Without you. Without water or without you? Without you. Without food or without you? Without you. Cold, hunger, darkness and thirst are not as scary and deadly for us as your ‘friendship and brotherhood.’

  2. a rare sighting in DC yesterday by fervid bird watchers of the red breasted puffer loon!

The Internet went abuzz with speculation after Donald Trump was spotted arriving at Dulles airport Sunday. The trip to Washington DC was unannounced and nobody in Trump world has made a peep about his unusual movements. MeidasTouch

  3. Glad the Russians seem to be turning tail and running away.  May the discontent against Putin continue to grow.

If you think Press here is ugly, the British are a steaming pile.  Andrew gave the dogs to the Queen.  Whatever his personal problems, Duchess Fergie and the daughters will love the dogs.    What the press is still doing to Prince Harry and Meghan is still unconscionable.  It’s no wonder they want to be anywhere but there.

Last Week Tonight is decidedly not in the Monarchy camp since he gave the Queen’s death short shrift and then spent majority of the show yammering and droning on about Law and Order.

  4. cracking fault lines perhaps?

    the hill:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of Trump’s closest allies, told The Hill that granting pardons to Jan. 6 protesters is “a bad idea.”
“Pardons are given to people who admit misconduct, rehabilitate themselves. They’re not supposed to be used for other purposes,” he said.
Other Republican senators are joining Graham in criticizing Trump’s promise to pardon the Jan. 6 protesters as inappropriate.
“I don’t think potential candidates should hold pardons out as a promise,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), who is usually a reliable Trump ally. “It’s somewhat problematic for me on a moral level and an ethical level — sort of like promising other giveaways to particular individuals.
“I prefer avoiding those kinds of things,” he said.
Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) said he wouldn’t support granting pardons to people convicted of crimes because of their actions on Jan. 6.
“If he were elected, he would have a constitutional ability to do it,” he said of Trump’s promise of pardons. “I would disagree with it. I think there was insurrection and I think these folks need to be punished.
“I was there. This was truly violent. People were injured, people were killed. I have very little mercy for the individuals that were involved in that activity that day,” Rounds added.
Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) said people who committed crimes on Jan. 6 must face the consequences of their actions.
“The only people that get pardoned are people who are charged with crimes. If they were charged with crimes, they ought to be prosecuted like everybody else,” he said. “The rule of law applies. If people broke laws, they need to be held accountable.”
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who voted last year to impeach Trump on the charge of inciting an insurrection on Jan. 6, said pardoning people who invaded the Capitol to stop Biden’s election would be wrong.
“The Jan. 6 riot was an attack on the temple of democracy, and the people who violated the law, attacked our law enforcement and besmirched our nation’s Capitol should be prosecuted according to the law, and certainly should not be pardoned,” he said. “It’s a grossly inappropriate comment to make.”

  5. if it is medical, will public get a summary report like happens when one is the acting president or does FOIA no longer apply to former presidents?

probably have to wait for a trickle down from leaks

  6. When you look at that clip of stupid take a good look at his shoes as he approaches the limo.  Not too many people wear white shoes and slacks together.  Sneakers? Golf shoes? Basketball?  Now we have to wonder where in the D.C. area the guy is hiding today.  The paparazzi have not provided news yet today.

  7. Will Doctors lie for FatAss now that he no longer has any power.  And feeding at the public trough  why doesn’t he have insurance he pays for himself.  Much more convenient if he could stay in Florida for most including his secret service detail.

  8. When armies die  –
They drop their weapons, strip off their uniforms for civilian  clothes , and steal the locals bicycles  to get away.

  9. In Intercepted Call, Russian Soldier Says Little To No Chance Of Surviving Ukraine’s Offensive In Kharkiv Region

That’s according to the intercepted audio of the soldier’s call to his father, Ukraine’s military intelligence reports, as per Ukrinform.
‘We are losing, losing big time,’ the soldier is heard saying. The occupier goes on to complain that his unit has been surrounded and they have nowhere to run, while the Ukrainian troops keep advancing. The Russian adds that he has to even sleep in full gear in fear of constant shelling.

  10. Putin better be spending all his time now figuring out a graceful exit.  Perhaps he can consult with SFB

  11. He should probably talk with Al Gore. SFB doesn’t have a clue about making a graceful exit … in fact he knows nothing about anything graceful.
