  1. Trump is losing his hold on ignorant voters
A significant share of Trump fans are waking up to reality
    David Horsey Oct 21, 2026
If the predicted big blue wave rolls over Republicans in this year’s midterm elections, it will have a tinge of red.
A not-insignificant number of voters who cast ballots for Donald Trump two years ago — particularly in the ranks of young men and Latinos — have become disillusioned with the president they helped elect. This time around, many of them will either vote for a Democrat or simply not vote at all.
This phenomenon has restored just a tiny bit of my lost faith in the power of reason and rationality.
Since long before he was elected to his first term in 2016, there has been abundant evidence to show Trump’s lack of fitness for the office. In the years since, that evidence has only become more glaring and expansive. Despite that, more than half the country fell for his hucksterism and lies a second time in 2024.
I attribute that to ignorance. Not stupidity, mind you, but ignorance. There is a difference.
Millions of Americans have been ignorant of Trump’s monumental flaws because they were either not paying attention to politics, or they were being misled and brainwashed by Fox News, talk radio and online hackers, bots and conspiracy mongers.
Finally, though, reality has begun to slip through cracks in the wall of disinformation and delusion. In large part this is because Trump has gotten even more blatant in his corruption and incompetence.
His absurd, punitive tariffs on Canada have done real harm to farmers, ranchers and businesses in red states. His catastrophic war with Iran has driven up fuel prices and betrayed his promise to keep the country out of war. His unleashing of a poorly trained, violent Gestapo to indiscriminately hunt down immigrants has raised alarm among Latino voters and businessmen who depend on migrant workers.
And, once the emperor is revealed not to be wearing fancy new clothes, it becomes easier to see him, not as a charismatic leader fighting for forgotten Americans, but as a charlatan who is growing increasingly weird as each day passes.
Less than a third of voters now believe Trump is doing a good job, and his frequent claims to be greater than any other president, including Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, are not convincing disillusioned minds.
Trump lives in his own delusion. I believe he actually thinks he is the greatest. That so many Americans, even now, concur with that assessment only proves that, while knowledge can overcome ignorance, you can’t fix stupid.

We are seven days away from the midterm elections and there are shenanigans afoot, Trump gave an update on the war he said was over on day one – eight months ago, government corruption is the number one issue for Americans going into the election, Trump complimented Nicki Minaj’s “ass” during a rally in Michigan, President Obama was stumping in Detroit for Abdul El-Sayed, the number of people committing voter fraud is almost zero, Pete Hegseth’s staff broke a globe that had been used by Eisenhower during World War II, and Trump is trying to rename everything.

  4. “it’s alive!” from WSJ Coddling Putin Won’t Bring Peace to Ukraine
Trump’s obeisance to the Kremlin also imperils his legislative agenda in the lame-duck Congress.
By Mitch McConnell Oct. 25, 2026 1:33 pm ET
President Trump’s gambit to end Russia’s war in Ukraine by pressuring the victim is certain to fail. His approach to the war reveals he misunderstands facts that American voters understand well.
While Vladimir Putin ignores Mr. Trump’s call for an energy cease-fire and continues to murder Ukrainian civilians, the U.S. president claims that Russia “has been fine on Ukraine.” This is factually wrong, strategically naive and morally bankrupt. His obsequious accommodation of Russia, rewarding the aggressor with sanctions relief, won’t persuade Mr. Putin to stop. History shows that such behavior emboldens Russia’s autocrat, who sees it as weakness.
In June 2021, Mr. Putin watched President Biden pause $100 million in lethal security assistance to Ukraine in pursuit of “deliverables” for a U.S.-Russia summit. We know what happened the following year. Yet Mr. Trump seems determined to repeat the mistakes of a predecessor he scorns.
Threatening to withhold security and intelligence assistance or access to crucial satellite communications systems won’t materially weaken Ukraine’s will to defend itself, but it may allow Mr. Putin to make battlefield headway that had until now been out of reach. This could prolong the war, not shorten it. And when Russia’s limited supply of diesel has changed hands, it will have done little to bring down prices at the pump.
Regardless of the midterm election results, Mr. Putin is America’s enemy. He is aligned with China, Iran and North Korea to divide the U.S. from our allies and undermine our global influence.
Americans, including most Republicans, understand this. They sympathize with Ukraine’s defenders, its abducted children, its shivering elderly and persecuted Christians. They know America’s strategic interests are aligned with Kyiv’s.
If the president means what he says about ending the conflict, he should look to the wisdom of the American people, not naive businessmen who seem to think diplomacy entails fawning over adversaries. Mr. Putin is many things, but he is no humanitarian. A Russian victory would have far worse consequences for our economic and national security and our global influence than temporarily high diesel prices.
Mr. Putin has directed cyberattacks against U.S. government agencies, businesses and infrastructure and helped Iran target U.S. personnel and facilities in the Middle East. He is an ally of Xi Jinping. He will continue to seize opportunities to weaken America—and Europe.
The Continent is our biggest trading partner and an engine of American economic growth. An outcome to this war that makes it easier for Russia to threaten Europe harms our own interests. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s innovation on the battlefield against a more powerful aggressor makes its value as a partner obvious.
The destruction of American aircraft, materiel and facilities, and the killing of U.S. personnel by Iranian drones—the same kind of Iranian drones Russia uses against Ukrainian cities—underscores the urgency of working with Ukraine. Senior Army leaders who traveled to Ukraine, like former Secretary Dan Driscoll, Gen. Chris Donahue and Lt. Gen. Curtis Buzzard, understood this. Not a single senior Pentagon policy official appears to have done the same, and it shows.
The Pentagon officials involved in restricting U.S. assistance to Ukraine should explain how abandoning the “Silicon Valley of warfare” and the world’s experts in battlefield drone innovation will help America achieve drone dominance. Next, they should explain why the president blames Ukraine for the U.S. military’s shortage of Tomahawk cruise missiles, even though we haven’t provided any to Ukraine.
The strategic incoherence extends beyond Ukraine. The Pentagon has undercut allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that are meeting military spending targets faster than we are. This is evident in the Pentagon policy office’s determination that supporting Baltic allies is wasteful and the Pentagon’s failure to commit appropriated funds to the Baltic Security Initiative. These funds are invested directly in the U.S. defense industrial base. The initiative’s procurement equips friends on NATO’s front line and spurs their own far greater investments in American weapons.
European assistance to Ukraine outpaces our own. The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List lets allies procure American-made weapons for this purpose. But the Trump administration is using PURL to pressure allies to reimburse the U.S. for security assistance Congress already appropriated. This dilutes our allies’ buying power and undermines American leadership and credibility. It also perversely encourages allies to reduce their use of American military hardware as soon as they can.
Securing a just and stable peace in Ukraine will require the moral clarity to assign blame where it belongs and a willingness to speak the only language Mr. Putin understands: strength.
The good news for Americans is that Senate Republicans oppose retreat and appeasement and favor a strong defense. They support Ukraine. They support NATO. They understand Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are enemies. And they want the president to work with Congress to restore American primacy.
Mr. Trump has high hopes for a lame-duck legislative agenda, including the one-time defense spending I’ve urged the administration instead to build into full-year appropriations. Passing this agenda will require working with Republicans who know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. Ending the obeisance to Mr. Putin may be table stakes for the end-of-year legislation. The president should plan accordingly.

McConnell rips recent Trump Russia-Ukraine moves as ‘certain to fail’
by Lucas Aulbach Louisville Courier Journal Updated Oct. 26, 2026, 3:02 p.m. ET
U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is calling on President Donald Trump and others in his administration to work with “Republicans who know the difference between the good guys and the bad guys” amid American efforts to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published Oct. 25, McConnell – who had pledged to remain a staunch Ukraine supporter during his final years in office – argued recent steps by Trump administration officials to bring the conflict to a close amount to “pressuring the victim” and are “certain to fail.”
“(Trump’s) approach to the war reveals he misunderstands facts that American voters understand well,” the Kentucky Republican wrote.
    […]
Two years ago, days after he announced he would not seek to remain as the GOP’s Senate leader after 2024, McConnell said he would spend his remaining time in the Senate pushing back against U.S. adversaries abroad, citing Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.
“We’re up against the most dangerous international situation since World War II,” McConnell told attendees of a forum in Louisville. “(Ronald) Reagan had it right. You get peace with strength.”
He reiterated that call in his recent op-ed.

Donald Trump’s latest rallies have been marked by more than just his rambling asides, strange guttural sounds and his fascination with the male body. They’ve also been frequently interrupted by hecklers, and it happened again in Mississippi on Monday night when someone lashed out at one of the president’s favorite projects.
“Shove that ballroom up your fat ***!” the heckler, who was not identified, yelled as the president spoke.
    Trump was not thrilled.
“Go home!” he said as security escorted the heckler out. “Go home, go home.”
Trump also claimed ― as he has before, and without evidence ― that the heckler was paid $250.

I have to laugh about the Mississippi heckler. One of my oldest friends – we’ve known each other since we were about 3 – is from Mississippi. His Dad is from Goodman, MS, which makes East Bumfuck look like NYC in comparison. His dad was a pharmaceutical sales man for Abbott almost his entire career, and my friend followed in his footsteps, but got waylaid by the winds of change in big pharma. Never occurred to me that he was anything but a crazy conservative Mississippi transplant like his dad. I have lately been getting FB notices that he’s posted comments – and well over half of them have been him commenting on Dumbass videos posted by anti-Trump posters. Generally his comments are something like “good lord” or “unbelievable”. I’m proud of the boy.

Earlier this year, the Defense Department awarded a nearly $41 million development contract to Singapore-based iX Biopharma to develop Wafermine, a small, ketamine-packed wafer that dissolves under the tongue.

Recently, the drug’s manufacturer announced that it is pursuing an emergency authorization that could make the medication available to troops before it receives full Food and Drug Administration approval, citing a September U.S. declaration of a military emergency that justifies the emergency use of drugs deemed necessary by the Pentagon.

  14. DATA CENTERS: A POLITICAL BACKLASH

How do you turn a MAGA voter blue? Find out how close they live to a data center.

The Economist matched nearly 150,000 Economist/YouGov poll respondents to their nearest data center. Since May, the share of people living within two kilometers who say they plan to vote Democratic has risen from 54% to 61. Nationwide, it rose from 53% to 55%.

The shift also shows up among Trump voters: 17% of those living within two kilometers of a data center now say they plan to vote Democratic, compared with 6% of Trump voters living farther away.

  18. 🇮🇱 ISRAEL ELECTION WATCH — NETANYAHU LOSES MAJORITY IN EXIT POLLS
    Tuesday, October 27, 2026 | 6:55 PM ET

BREAKING: Israeli exit polls show Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s governing bloc falling short of a parliamentary majority. But the opposition has not secured enough seats to take power either.

PROJECTED KNESSET SEATS — KAN 11 EXIT POLL

    • Opposition bloc: 53 seats
    • Netanyahu bloc: 50 seats
    • Arab-led parties: 17 seats
    • Majority required: 61 of 120 seats

NETANYAHU’S PARTY STILL LEADS: Likud is projected to win 25 seats, compared with 21 for Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party. Netanyahu’s party could finish first while his coalition loses its governing majority.

RECORD TURNOUT: Reuters reports turnout reached 77.7%, the highest in more than two decades. The unusually large electorate adds uncertainty to the final distribution of seats.

THE COMPLICATION: The opposition could potentially assemble a parliamentary majority with support from Arab parties, but its leaders have resisted including them in a governing coalition. A minority government supported from outside remains one possible route.

NOT ALL EXIT POLLS AGREE: Pro-Netanyahu Channel 14 projects 60 seats for his bloc, while i24 News projects 55. The major networks show his bloc at approximately 50. These are projections, not counted votes.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: Israel’s Central Elections Committee has begun counting ballots. Official results may take days. President Isaac Herzog will eventually consult party leaders about forming a government. If no workable coalition emerges, another election is possible.

BOTTOM LINE: Netanyahu’s majority is in serious trouble according to the main exit polls. But losing a majority does not automatically mean losing the prime minister’s office. Israel may be headed for a prolonged coalition struggle.

These figures reflect election-night exit polls. No official nationwide seat allocation has been confirmed in this update.

  20. Yet Another Defeated Bolsonaro Flees to the United States

According to media reports, Flávio Bolsonaro has left Brazil headed to the United States, where he’s rumored to be asking the friendly government of President Donald Trump for asylum. Much like his father, Flávio refused to concede defeat and initially said he would seek to annul the results. (His own party later recognized Lula’s win.) For the first time in 24 years, since he was first elected a state lawmaker in 2022, the aspiring Bolsonaro successor and senator faced the prospect of being out of public office, and with it, losing the special immunity officeholders enjoy.

    *Someone call ICE on him.

Flávio’s departure defies an order by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes prohibiting the defeated candidate from leaving the country and instructing him to surrender his passports. The ruling is connected to an investigation into Flávio’s alleged participation in a money-laundering scheme. (He’s also being investigated as part of a probe into the financing of a biopic of his father.) By Tuesday morning, the younger Bolsonaro had missed the deadline to hand over his travel documents, and the Brazilian federal police were looking into whether he had left the country via Argentina.

That Flávio would make a getaway to the United States doesn’t come as a surprise, and not only because of his father’s stint in the Sunshine State. America has become the default destination for several Bolsonaro or Bolsonaro-adjacent figures on the radar of Brazilian authorities, including the grandson of a former military dictator and a far-right influencer once described as “the fake-news kingpin of Brazil” who is considered to be a fugitive from justice.

Chiefly among them is Flávio’s brother, Eduardo, a key go-between of the Brazilian far right and Trump’s circle who’s been “self-exiled” in the United States since early 2025.
