  1. I early voted (just props) and I wish they would word things clearly.  Lots of double negatives.   I had a cheat sheet with me.

Orange Adolf must love the proxy votes like the one for Youngkin. Makes him not feel like the loser that he is…until 2024, which I dread.

  2. a little background on that wapo endeavor discussed yesterday

Washington Post national reporter Carol Leonnig, former Assistant Director for Counterintelligence at the FBI Frank Figliuzzi, and contributor to The Grio Jason Johnson discuss the Washington Post investigation revealing the red flags law enforcement missed ahead of the January 6th attack.

Remember the Alamo? Well, the battle rages on.

“At the center of some of those controversies is Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush — son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush — whose agency, the General Land Office, is responsible for overseeing the redevelopment plans.“

“At one point, Patrick blasted Bush over his management of the Alamo, tweeting that no one had put the Alamo “at more risk” than the land commissioner “with the outrageous ‘reimagining’ plan, lousy management, lack of transparency and moving the cenotaph.” A few months earlier, Patrick had threatened to take oversight of the Alamo away from Bush’s office.“

Of course, it’s not just about the Alamo.

“Though the primary is slated for March, the issue has already attracted attention from other Republicans running for attorney general, such as Eva Guzman, a former state Supreme Court justice.”

“Guzman, in an emailed response for this story through her campaign, called Bush’s handling of the Alamo redesign a “colossal mismanagement of one of Texas’ proudest landmarks” and questioned how the land commissioner can “be trusted to be our state’s top lawyer” amid those so-called shortcomings.“

  4. Until today I had pretty much forgotten the Alamo.
I hope Virginia Democrats turn out today. VA doesn’t need a Republican governor, particularly not Youngkin Trumpkin.

  5. All those other guitar pluckers can just go ahead and climb into the back seat area when this guy is on board.

  6. something to consider in our not so brave new world:   to bot or not to bot?

Move over, Aristotle: can a bot solve moral philosophy? | Artificial intelligence (AI) | The Guardian

… what if AI could take away the brain work and answer ethical quandaries for us? Ask Delphi is a bot that’s been fed more than 1.7m examples of people’s ethical judgments on everyday questions and scenarios. If you pose an ethical quandary, it will tell you whether something is right, wrong, or indefensible.

Anyone can use Delphi. Users just put a question to the bot on its website, and see what it comes up with.

    […]

I asked Yejin Choi, one of the researchers from University of Washington, who worked on the project alongside colleagues at the Allen Institute for AI, about how Delphi thinks about these questions. She said: “It’s sensitive to how you phrase the question. Even though we might think you have to be consistent, in reality, humans do use innuendos and implications and qualifications. I think Delphi is trying to read what you are after, just in the way that you phrase it.”

    […]

But she makes clear that the intention of the bot is not to be a moral authority on anything. “People outside AI are playing with that demo, [when] I thought only researchers would play with it … This may look like an AI authority giving humans advice which is not at all what we intend to support.”

Instead, the point of the bot is to help AI to work better with humans, and to weed out some of the many biases we already know it has. “We have to teach AI ethical values because ai interacts with humans. And to do that, it needs to be aware what values human have,” Choi says.

  7. here’s just one of the many many interesting little factoids from the attempted coup that wapo reported.

    the hill:

According to a long-form piece published by The Washington Post on Sunday, the Republican senator was furious that lawmakers were being forced to evacuate and yelled at the Senate sergeant-at-arms, “What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You’ve got guns. Use them.”

“We give you guns for a reason,” Graham reportedly continued. “Use them.”

According to the Post’s report, Graham also called former President Trump‘s daughter Ivanka Trump, giving her suggestions on what her father should say to appeal to the rioters to calm down and vacate the Capitol.

“You need to get these people out of here,” Graham reportedly said to Ivanka Trump over the phone. “This thing is going south. This is not good. You’re going to have to tell these people to stand down. Stand down.”

The South Carolina senator was reportedly enraged by former President Trump’s subsequent video message to the rioters, in which he said, “We have to have peace. So go home. We love you, you’re very special.”

  8. I think… the rotten house judge is obviously one of the cultists….but then I remember the former guy railing about “Mexican” judges when they ruled against him.
So basically,  “Ya gotta take the bitter with the badder.”

  9. Sturgeone

MacArthur Park is always a hard listen for me.  I love the song, but it immediately puts me back in Los Angeles at the age of 15.  One of those crux points in a life .  It took quite a while to recover from the events.

  10. sturge, one lawyer noted that that judge at start of all his trials always warns about not referring to alleged victims as victims, that in his opinion it’s one of the many things up to the jury to determine/decide.

kinda quirky but understandable if he always says that

  11. patd, I disagree with the judge – the only connection the deceased had with Rittenhouse was at the end of a bullet’s trail that killed or injured them – the question is not whether they are his victims, the question is whether the act of pointing the gun and pulling the trigger amounts to some level of criminal action or was in self defense.

  12. CRT got blown way out of proportion because the GOP knows how to position even minor issues as major negatives and were helped by the Lowden county school board doing something innocently stupid.

They asked that parents who wanted a copy of the curriculum to sign that they would not publicly disseminate it on social media.  Given the way similar things have been altered and twisted in the past this was reasonable, but right wing turned it into DEMAND FOR NON DISCLOSURE of CRT and CANCEL CULTURE at the top of their lungs and all over Twitter plus getting blasted on Faux Spews.

  13. Sturg, yep, Glen’s a good ‘un.  Until he became a beneficiary of the star maker machinery he was a lowly studio musician in LA, working his ass off making hits for everyone under the sun as a member of the legendary Wrecking Crew.

  14. patd, I saw that guy’s interview this morning while I was getting ready to go to the office.  It came across as you described it – I may not know what it is but whatever it is, I don’t like it.  (Moron think)

  15. It’s official ……………….
Joe Manchin is the Lucy Van Pelt of American politics, and sadly Joe Biden does look like Charlie Brown.

  16. Been watching a lot of “Westerns” lately . Which informs so much of the myths we have about ourselves.
    Two things standout –
A  Nobody ever shot a single horse chasing a stage coach .

B  Those horses never took a dump in the street.

  17. A rock n’ roll dinner mint –
“The Searchers” , John Ford’s master work gave John Wayne two wonderful taglines.
First , calling Jeffery Hunter  “Blanket Head”, and second uttering “That’ll be the Day” to anything he didn’t agree with.
Buddy Holly saw that movie on it’s first run here with some of the “Crickets”.

  18. it’s the “keep our grandbabies completely imbecilic for life” platform, nice 🇺🇸

  19. Terry screwed the pooch with that school board  remark.
And the Morlocks are going to run with that .
The left has yet to understand these old cultural rivers in America.

  20. Meanwhile up in Greenland –

Over the past decade alone, 3.5 trillion tons of ice has melted from Greenland’s surface and flowed into the ocean—enough to cover the UK with around 15m of meltwater, or all of New York City with around 4500m.

Satellite monitoring of Greenland ice melting highlights global flood risk

    https://phys.org/news/2021-11-satellite-greenland-ice-highlights-global.html

The international team of researchers found that over the past four decades Greenland’s meltwater runoff has risen by 21%—and has become 60% more erratic from one summer to the next.
The findings revel that between 2011 and 2020 increased meltwater runoff from Greenland raised the global sea level by one centimeter—heightening the risk of flooding worldwide and disrupting marine ecosystems in the Arctic Ocean. Raising sea levels can also alter patterns of ocean and atmospheric circulation that affect weather conditions across the globe.

  21. A topic here about “fairness” , set me to thinking.
First, there ain’t a God Dam thing that is fair in life.
Watch a baby bird in a nest that is the runt .
That is why we once had so much of it. It’s also why mankind  has floated along on a river of tears. We need to see that.
But now, we really need to all sit down and understand that our over running our only home , will leave us all homeless.

This is a very tall order.

  22. Thanks to all you watching the election returns.  To reduce damage to myself and the televisions I do not watch any more.  Tomorrow morning I can yell and scream.

To entertain myself tonight I found that Columbo is on the Peacock network freebie selection.  Great entertainment.  Ah the good old days when IBM Selectric typewriters were the best and you could DIAL “O” to talk to an operator; the operator could place your call or trace who called you (okay not so much, but makes good television).

  23. Craig

Referring public schools as “government schools” first started with the California Republican Assembly in roughly 1976.  It then got echoed within the Evangelicals and hard right home schooling while spreading east.  Now it is roughly 30% of the voters.  Doesn’t bode well for education.

  24. jamie, nor does that bode well for public health since home schoolers don’t have to get the usual vaccines that public schoolers do.   hello measles, mumps, the pox & polio – just like the good ole days.

  25. Bink – no trick or treaters.  10 years of results:  2 years lots of trick or treaters; 2 years a few trick or treaters, 2 years of one or two trick or treaters, 4 years goose egg, none, zip, nada, aint worth it. One of the reasons is a few years ago one household decided to hold a party instead of  going house to house.  So the result is no one pounding the doorbell.

That reminds me, I need to troubleshoot the doorbell.

  26. Fossil Fuels  –
These carbon chains  are far more valuable than we know.

For years the deniers called CO2 a “trace gas” , given it’s small percentage in the atmosphere.  They never addressed it’s roll in life on Earth.  Every green plant on Earth runs on it. And  it has since the beginning.
This is why we have gasoline. Billions of years of green living things fixing carbon from the air, and in  dying stored that .
The really crazy  thing about all this , those green living things “fixed” the sunlight  from 100’s of millions of years ago .
Our modern  world is built on this.

The next time  you drive to the store , you are riding on 250 million year old sunlight .

  27. Well, if the unvaccinated homeschoolers get mumps, maybe they’ll self-sterilize and the 30%-er’s will die out in a generation.

  28. Looks to me that Terry’s fuched the pooch, starting with the absofuckinglutely boneheaded comment about parents and education. I cringed when I heard that. And the chaos in Congress didn’t help.

  29. Pogo

It didn’t help that the cable folks covered only the negatives of McAuliffe in their constant lust for eyeballs and dollars.  Echoes of Hillary emails!
