Donald Trump finally comes clean about his embrace of Project 2025 and he and it’s architect Russell Vought are pleased as punch to sing and dance about it. It’s the Height of Fashiness!

Scientists grow mini human brains to power computers
It may have its roots in science fiction, but a small number of researchers are making real progress trying to create computers out of living cells.
Welcome to the weird world of biocomputing.
Among those leading the way are a group of scientists in Switzerland, who I went to meet.
One day, they hope we could see data centres full of “living” servers which replicate aspects of how artificial intelligence (AI) learns – and could use a fraction of the energy of current methods.
That is the vision of Dr Fred Jordan, co-founder of the FinalSpark lab I visited.
We are all used to the ideas of hardware and software in the computers we currently use.
The somewhat eyebrow-raising term Dr Jordan and others in the field use to refer to what they are creating is “wetware”.
In simple terms, it involves creating neurons which are developed into clusters called organoids, which in turn can be attached to electrodes – at which point the process of trying to use them like mini-computers can begin.

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump has directed his team to review federal aid to Portland, Oregon, that can be cut as his anger with the city’s anti-government and anti-fascism protesters mounts, the White House said on Friday.
“We will not fund states that allow anarchy,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters. She gave no details about what funds Trump, a Republican, might try to block.

Why don’t you pay someone a real wage
To pick the fruit. Yeah we might have to pay a little more for an apple so what at least it’s honest work and if you paid ok people would do it. Instead of paying a slave wage to a foreigner.

Some of the largest law firms in the U.S. are telling clients to prepare for possible politically motivated governmental probes stemming from President Donald Trump’s new national security directive on domestic terrorism.
Several firms warned that though the Trump administration claims the directive is meant to curb political violence, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and other federal agencies may wield it against left-leaning nonprofit organizations who hold ideological beliefs and fund progressive political activity the president and his allies oppose.
The Presidential Memorandum makes clear that DOJ intends to target tax-exempt organizations and their funders for investigation and potential criminal prosecution, including based on activities that have historically been viewed as protected by the First Amendment,” Arnold & Porter said.
Trump’s memo, formally named National Security Presidential Memorandum-7 (NSPM-7), directed law enforcement and regulatory agencies to “investigate and disrupt networks, entities, and organizations” that, according to the president, are responsible for encouraging acts of political violence.
Legal experts and free speech organizations have said that NSPM-7, and a separate Trump order purporting to designate the leaderless anti-fascist antifa movement as a “domestic terrorism organization,” could be used to silence dissent, as the two orders conflate protected speech with political violence and subscription to an idea with terrorism.
“The government doesn’t need NSPM-7 to investigate any of these groups if there’s reason to believe they’ve committed crimes that already exist,” Steve Vladeck, a Georgetown Law professor, wrote in an online post Thursday.
*They will monitor social media to ferret out dissenters, with hopes that the mere threat will silence folks. I’ve had a good life, so complying in advance is laughable. Age is my privilege and shutting up would squander it.
Is it possible that enough Republicans are also fed with MAGAt Mike, that once the AZ Rep is sworn in, there could be a call for a new SOTH? I can see mTg pushing him out.

Taking aim at President Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker delivered a powerful speech Friday night at the Democratic Party of Georgia’s annual Carter-Lewis fundraising dinner in Atlanta.
Pritzker accused the president of treason.
*He’s not wrong.
“Beating back an authoritarian regime starts with the resistance that can effectively ridicule the opposition and look into the camera and say ‘this guy is full of s***,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker said the president backed down on plans to send National Guard troops to Chicago last month after leaders in Illinois stood up to the White House.
However, it’s still possible the Trump administration could send troops to Chicago
Gov. JB Pritzker said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem “should no longer be able to step foot” in Illinois without accountability “for the Trump Administration’s gross misconduct” as she visited the Broadview ICE facility Friday.
Tensions over “Operation Midway Blitz” and immigration raids in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have escalated as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have stepped up raids and detentions across the area.
Noem was spotted on the roof of the makeshift ICE detention center in Broadview, Illinois shortly before 8 a.m. Friday morning. She appeared to be filming something.
For Renee’s meme, which societies in history are remembered for exterminating their weakest and most helpless members? These spring to mind:
Nazi Germany, of course.
Sparta
Rome
What others?
Others have said it similarly:
American writer and novelist Pearl Buck (1892-1973), best known for her novel, The Good Earth (winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1932), and recipient of the Nobel Prize for literature that wrote: “Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members.”
This is a basic benchmark for a Nobel Prize consideration which Dodo fails miserably.
Another notable individual who spoke about “the weakest members” was Hubert Humphrey (1911-1978) who served as U.S. Vice President from 1965 to 1969. In an address to the Democratic National Convention in New York City on July 13, 1976, Humphrey spoke about the treatment of the weakest members of society as a reflection of its government: “The ultimate moral test of any government is the way it treats three groups of its citizens. First, those in the dawn of life — our children. Second, those in the shadows of life — our needy, our sick, our handicapped. Third, those in the twilight of life — our elderly.”
Noem was spotted on the roof of the makeshift ICE detention center…
She was looking for a bathroom.
I thought not letting her use the bathroom was hilarious. She has no problem with the horrible conditions she’s sending folks to, so why should she get a comfort break.
The Turkish Airlines flight that touched down at Istanbul Airport on Saturday afternoon carried more than just 137 weary activists. It brought home harrowing accounts of detention conditions that the returning members of the Global Sumud Flotilla say they endured after Israeli forces intercepted their Gaza-bound humanitarian mission in international waters.
Among the 36 Turkish citizens and 23 Malaysians who stepped off the plane at 3:50 p.m. were voices eager to tell their stories of what they described as systematic mistreatment during their days in Israeli custody. Their accounts paint a picture of deliberate psychological pressure, physical deprivation, and what they characterize as attempts to break their spirits.
The physical conditions, according to the activists, were deliberately harsh. Said Ercan, speaking to NTV, described being held in reverse handcuffs for five hours and being packed into overcrowded cells. “We stayed with reverse handcuffs for 5 hours. When we went to prison, they didn’t give us water, we had to drink water from the toilet,” Ercan said, adding that 15 people were crammed into cells designed for five.
Osman Cetinkaya, who was aboard what he described as the flagship vessel, said the pressure intensified when detainees showed resistance. “When we showed our reaction, they increased their violence even more,” Cetinkaya explained. “They tried to keep us under constant pressure in prison, waking us throughout the night and changing our locations.”
Perhaps the most serious allegations centered around the treatment of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who had joined the flotilla. Multiple activists claimed they witnessed what they described as particularly harsh treatment and torment directed at the internationally known figure.
Journalist Ersin Celik, speaking on CNN Turk’s live broadcast, made explicit allegations about Thunberg’s treatment. “They tortured Greta very severely before our eyes. They oppressed Greta, she’s just a small child. They made her crawl, forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did exactly what the Nazis did,” Celik stated.
“This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will,” Pritzker said in a Saturday afternoon statement released by his office. “It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.”
The Trump administrations plans to “pull hardworking Americans out of their regular jobs and away from their families all to participate in a manufactured performance — not a serious effort the protect public safety,” Pritzker said.
The governor added “there is no need for military troops on the ground in the State of Illinois. State, county, and local law enforcement have been working together and coordinating to ensure public safety around the Broadview ICE facility, and to protect people’s ability to peacefully exercise their connotational rights. I will not call up our National Guard to further Trump’s acts of aggression against our people.”
I hope Greta speaks for herself.

Alabama’s football schedule can seem nonsensical due to several factors, including the historic practice of scheduling weak non-conference opponents, which is now changing, and quirks in the new SEC scheduling formats. The perceived oddities result from a mix of conference strategy, tradition, and the evolving landscape of college football.

That was my first thought. Greta needs to speak for herself about treatment by the Israelis. If it wqas as discribed, definite black eye for the IDF.
I hate computers. They have been the bane of my life since the first one I programmed in 1965. Every time I try to get rid of them I am sucked back into the black hole. I have been told that is because working with them is the only thing I can do. Bah.
I have/had two desktops, both newish, both unable to update from Win 10 to Win 11. The reason has to do with Microsoft having some issue, not that the machines can be updated, it is because MS won’t let them. Okay, one of the computers is now a Linux machine. The other has issues and could be be turned into Linux. So, I went to MicroCenter and bought the parts to make a new machine. Because many of the programs I use are not available in Linux, it has to be a Win 11 computer.
For the last week plus, I have been dealing with the various problems with Win 11. I feel for anyone who tried to update and it went bad. I have had to go deep into my memory to make fixes and changes. It does not help that MS moves stuff around and changes names of it.
