  1. I think I’m gonna need a drink … or three … to watch this.

What I care about is turnout among millenials and women.

  2. The control of senate preference poll doesn’t concern me – hell, Richard Shelby would prefer Repug control of the Senate but he stumped against Moore. I suspect that Sir Charles and Condi Rice would agree with him.

  3. Kingfish, I’m going to hit you so hard your head gonna ring like a ten-penny finishing nail hit with a greasy ball peen hammer.

  4. My dad and Joe Louis (Barrow) grew up working the same sawmill in east Alabama……every time the old man would wind up in Vegas he and Joe would get to chat a bit about the mill….. None of those people will vote for Moore.

  5. My aunt worked the textiles in Fairfax Alabama……..we always got cheap towels……she would have viewed Moore as “common as pig’s tracks”.

  6. Back in the 70s, before I left ‘bama for the wilds of Maine & NH, my ex sis-in-law was a member of the Alabama Democratic Executive Committee and a Dem elector.  She hosted a fundraiser for Richard Shelby way back when – when he was still a democrat.  Even then I thought his drawl was ridiculously exaggerated – and my maternal family was from Opelika, and bruddah, the drawls down there are thicker’n molasses in January. I thought he was a decent enough guy  … right up until he switched parties to save his electoral ass.

  7. Pog famous uncle had a store in opelika…..always had a nice hat…….when the plantation died in Merriwether County Ga my dad wound up being born outside LaFayette Ala

  8. People should remember that in Alabama and Mississippi husbands are granted the privilege of aiding their spouses during the vote casting process because of its inherent complexities. Wives may not contest exercise of this privilege. If necessary, the husband may void an improperly cast ballot.

  9. Donald Trump’s tweet this morning may have truly injured Moore’s chances.  I don’t know how many wome knew about it  but any who did will vote Democrat tonight.

  10. Even if I will never go back because 44 million is a whole lot worse than 24 million, I am so glad I was born and raised in California. Fifty years ago we were living what the red states fear and it was great.  The other than white kids were our friends and the other than heterosexuals were nice people we knew and invited to parties.

    Time to catch up folks.

  11. Sturge, LaFayette?  That is def in the middle of nowhere.

Flatus I think those archaic laws aren’t actually in effect any longer… at least I hope not.  My sister would be mortified.?

  12. To give you an idea of what a long shot it is for Doug Jones, Among college educated Alabama voters, there’s less than a 10% difference in their preference for Jones over Moore. In other words, Alabama is full of educated dumb fucks. I’m really embarrassed.

If dumb fucks is a bit too harsh for you, feel free to substitute stupid shits.

  13. Pogo,
I suspect folks are so rightfully proud of having finished high school, if they have a year of community college beyond that it feels like a university degree.

  14. Jamie, that is one of the most beautiful coats I have ever seen. And all illuminated as if it is next Wednesday.

  15. Well, it ain’t over yet, but Moore is likely to win A close race.  Don’t tease me with that 2018 shit.

  16. Waiting on results, watching Rachel and singing along to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.  Some nights are really worth living.  Come Alive and dreaming with your eyes wide open.

  17. On other things of interest, the second egg in the Florida Romeo and Juliet nest hatched today.  NE18 and NE19 currently thriving and doing well.

  18. Craig

Couldn’t believe Sarah Sanders played dumb today.  There isn’t a female on earth who didn’t understand “would do anything” in the Trump tweet.  How willing is the GOP to be associated with that level of perversion?

  19. Too close to call my ass.  118000 minority voters don’t have photo ID allowing them to vote. Jones can’t make the margin up. Rebuke voter suppression at its finest. Gotta be something better on.

  20. CNN is currently talking with my freshman year college roommate and one of my best friends in high school, Judge Alan King out of Jefferson County. He is the probate judge of Jefferson county. I think I’m having a flashback.

  21. 12000 vote margin and the outstanding votes are in Jones counties. This may happen. They keep talking about Shelby County. What a shithole.

  22. SFB and Dr. Death can’t deliver in Ala-fucking-Bama.  I’m not quite as embarrassed to be from Alabama as I have been at times in the past. Screw SFB, screw Bannon, lolololol.

  23. How can the choice between a child molester and the guy who successfully prosecuted the Birmingham church bombers come down to 9000 votes out of 1.5 million?

  24. I rest my case.

Women of Alabama, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

  25. If California could make the change from being a segregated state in 1961, Alabama can become a woman-friendly state tonight.

  26. In all seriousness will this result embolden efforts to take on #45 concerning sexual harassment? How can the Republican politicians who were against Moore not take on the 800lb gorilla that leads their Party? Being right while being Right can actually coexist.

  27. Congratulations Mr. Jones!   Will sessions ever be able to get back to sweet home Alabama?

A voter GFY to the repugs and the trumpence junta.

  28. Just spent half an hour reveling in the Jones victory with my sister and best friend in Alabama. Reminiscing about people like that moron Jim Ziegler and other actually quality people we knew back in the day. What a great night.

  29. Message from God, Judge Moore: she smites weenies who can’t accept reality. Oh, and there’s a special place in hell for …

  30. Auburn voted for Jones !?! Holy Moley, Rocky. The world HAS turned upside down.

Take that bananov ! Take that putin !

Also, I must confess that my election day prediction was too low. Holy Crap, who’da thought that could happen.

Merry Christmas, Alabama. You deserve it. Roll Tide.

  31. Alabama has moved.  Women, African-American, LGBTQ, and a lot of millennials have dragged the state forward in time.  There be a whole lot of old timers seething and plotting, but the world is changing and not retreating to 1840.

Yay for Jones.  This win blows away so much of the republican party it is difficult to comprehend right now.  When you have a toxic candidate it helps a lot.  But, to even have a Dem running and getting more than a couple votes is stunning.

  32. no matter that roy won’t concede, a margin of over 40,000 plus voted against him counting both jone’s votes and the write-ins.  that big a difference makes it harder to come up with “just discovered” absentee votes or voting discrepancies in his favor.

  33. twit tweets

    axios: Trump congratulates Doug Jones

A surprisingly understated tweet from President Trump tonight, congratulating Doug Jones on his victory over Roy Moore, who was endorsed by Trump:

    realDonaldTrump

Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!

    11:08 PM – Dec 12, 2017

  34. thanks, got to see them at mass general yesterday, very tiny and super cute unblemished cesarean babies. happy holidays to you all!

  35. also at axios: Schumer calls cops after forged sex scandal charge

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he was the victim of a fake news hit on Tuesday, and has turned over to Capitol Police a document that purports to detail lurid sexual harassment accusations by a former staffer.

Why it matters: This was an apparent effort to dupe reporters and smear a senator — both symptoms of an amped-up news environment where harassment charges are proliferating and reporters have become targets for fraud.

    […details…]

Be smart: Look for more hits like this, aimed at victimizing both reporters and public figures.

this kind of thing was what many on the trail (granny, bw, jamie et al) tried to warn about re the purists’ inclinations to rush to judgement and chop heads before they have a chance to be heard or evaluated.   it tends to distract, diminish and obfuscate the charges against trump and other serious serial sexists.  it also unfairly ruins people’s lives who work for the falsely accused.

  36. old sea, what a wonderful present for a grand granny! makes the holidays extra special.

you’ll have to invent a double chocolate goodie in honor of the occasion.

  37. Congratulation, Ms Hag !

We could use some young ideas on the Trail. Please, stay in touch. Teach ’em to type !

  38. You’re absolutely right, one step ahead of me!

Thanks X, i’ll do my best.  In the meantime trust that they will be taught to love, not hate.
