  1. And for those amongst us who HATE the Electoral College:  Biden leads in the popular vote by almost 2 million with lots more still to count.

  2. On PBS ,  David Brooks said he would much rather be Biden than Trump tonight. I hope he is right!

  3. I’m worried about this more than I thought I would be.  I was exhausted & fell asleep to wake up to what looks like a trumpity win. I still don’t have my passport in hand, but no country will take us anyhow now. If trumpity does win, there will be no end to the pandemic. I find that very depressing not to mention listening to a game show dictator. I just won’t listen to him on anything and try to get out of here, if I survive the pandemic.

I can’t understand this many americans voting for a dictator. I just can’t.

  4. Wow, NBC just simply shut off the president as he was speaking to explain that he had made a number of false statements and they needed to correct for listeners the information about the uncounted votes in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

  5. CNN shows 220 -213
I wish I hadn’t gotten up to check.  TRUMPsky has already tweeted victory to his followers. His account should’ve been frozen until the final count.  He doesn’t get to decide.  However, with all of the mail-in problems, I’m not sure that we’re waiting for good news.  It’s 2020, after all.

  6. If we had enough Senators, we could impeach the bastard, properly.  It doesn’t look like that will happen, either.  All this will do is embolden Repugz.  I wanna move to the UK or Denmark.

  7. My take away from this election is how seriously sick America is and it may not be repairable.  I see lots of happy talk going on and I think it is delusional.  Something not talked about is the deep racism that is America.  The fact is Kamala is not your northern European woman and I deeply believe that is affecting the vote for Biden.  greedy old perverts have convinced a lot of people that Biden would be president for a short while, resign and leave her to become president.  Then there would be the worse condition of all, a woman president and a woman of color the president.  That is why the vote is so messed up.

  8. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Blue Bronc this morning.  This country has always had a deep well of ignorance, misogyny, and racism.  The Obama years gave me hope there were changes and then the vile attacks on Clinton came along and the last several years of Trump inviting the ugliness out from under their tocks.

Leaving the Senate in Mitch McConnell’s hands is equally disheartening.  He is an evil man who has done the will of an evil man.  I can only hope Biden can cling to the win and that there is enough moderation in the Senate to provide a cure for the worst impulses.

This morning  I don’t like my country very much.

  9. d’ump will be super duper pissed when once again he loses the popular vote count BY MILLIONS even if he (god forbid) does win the electoral.

  10. 538’s Clare Malone just posted:

I’m logging back on here after a couple of hours of sleep and basically catching up with the various scenarios. Some people are saying that Biden is building back that old Democratic “blue wall” in the Upper Midwest with the counting of the mail-in ballots in Michigan and Wisconsin. Then there is a big discussion about his path with Arizona and Nevada. Georgia is potentially still very much in play. I think what’s striking me this morning is the electoral map and the conventional wisdom that goes along with it: We are seeing some of the old map for Democrats (blue wall) and the new map (the Sun Belt). So, it’s an interesting transition moment to observe, if I may, from the midst of all this.”

  11. Good morning all. I stayed away from the election coverage on TV last night. I did lurk here last night. I checked the results after 2:00 a.m. this morning. Needless to say, I was very dismayed when I saw the Michigan election results as of early this morning. I’ve basically come to hope that Detroit and areas like Ann Arbor can make up for all of the voters where I live here in the state. The only local/state election that went my way last night was the local election for district court judge. The judge who ruled against me in a speeding ticket hearing in 2011 may have lost the election race for district court judge for the 3rd time since 2012. Still keeping my hopes up that Biden is able to pull this one out. BTW, today is also my birthday. I was hoping that would be my birthday present.

  12. Corey, Happy Birthday! Your present is there are more than enough Dem mail-in votes still to be counted for Joe to win Michigan, possibly by the end of today, maybe tomorrow.

  13. Corey
Happy Birthday. As you know, I’m from Flint and I believe Michigan is going to come through for us this time :0)

  14. Tony, Flint is one of the places where mail-in ballots haven’t been fully reported yet. Expect a boost for Joe when they come in. Also, much of metro Detroit still to come, also good for our side.

  15. Joe Biden has officially received more votes for president of the United States than any candidate in history, and the counting isn’t even finished yet.  Tell me again why we have an Electoral College.

  16. Corey – Happy Birthday & I hope you get your wish!

BB – A Fox-watching relative in California told me that Joe would die and then Kamala would make Pelosi her VP.  I explained that wasn’t true and why.

I also had a talk with a coworker about why there has been no more stimulus.  The first word out of their mouth was Pelosi.  Then they brought up her trying for a  Kennedy Center  bailout  (probably Save Our Stages) when they have a family member who is a union stagehand.

Pelosi, Pelosi, Pelosi. That is the rally cry of the far right.

I truly believe Hegar lost to Cornyn based on gas & oil jobs, which worries me for Joe in PA.

  17. All these minutes I am wasting on FB has me wondering who all the people are who post.  I then started to put names to locations and posts.  Some are reporters or former reporters who my campaign friended back at least ten or fourteen years ago.  The politicians I know because I was in that cohort.  I am now slowly shifting out a lot of people no longer in my circle and including family (only a few) and friends (only a few).  FB is still a playground with a lot of shoving and yelling going on.  I prefer rough and tumble Trail Mix.

  18. My dad is the only other Biden voter in my family.  The rest just believe Faux Noise.  Work is filled with angry, unmasked, white men.  I dread going every day and am happy to be taking a vacation day.

  19. Well, Scarborough finally says it. Sorry him and Mika permanently off on my PC

  20. Poobah, your math is correct – Joe will be at 270 with NV, AZ, WI & MI – and it looks like that is how those will fall.  Ironic that in the end PA (which likely will end up in Joe’s column) will be irrelevant.  I’m hoping Carville is right – put the razor blades and Ambien back in the medicine cabinet.  From RCP:

Democratic operative James Carville, who predicted a blowout by 10pm, attempted to reassure Democratic voters by telling them to “put the razor blades and the Ambien” away in an appearance on MSNBC at 12am.”The first thing is every Democrat, just put the razor blades and the Ambien back in the medicine cabinet. We’re going to be fine. We’re going to be fine,” Carville reassured Democrats.Carville called Michigan a “red mirage,” said Pennsylvania “looks really good,” and called Georgia a “big surprise” for Democrats.

The first thing Joe should do if the above falls in place is appoint a commission to make recommendations for changes to make mail in ballot dates uniform across the states.  Mail in is here to stay and the crazy quilt the patchwork of state laws have created does not serve us well.

Dumbass’ problem with “going to the Supreme Court” to stop the “voting” is that by the time he gets there it will be too late – the states that matter will have certified results (except perhaps PA) and even I don’t believe the Court will throw out ballots received and counted by states complying with their election laws.  His move would have been to seek an injunction against those states to prevent accepting ballots after 11/3 even if they were postmarked before the close of the polls.  Now it would be trying to put smoke back in the bottle.

  21. John Kasik.   Yikes. We could do without him and now he’s like we have to listen to Goopers. No we don’t

  22. To wipe out the PA red mirage Joe will need right at 60% of the mail-in ballots to break his way, about 2/3 in GA and NC – about the same.

  23. Trump still pushing the conspiracy just now

Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!

  24. Pollsters have nothing to do with anything other than setting expectations.  He’s right that they got it wrong in many cases, especially with respect to margins, but the fat lady hasn’t sung yet.

And Dear Dumbass, there were no surprise ballot dumps.  The states began counting and reporting results according to the laws of the respective states.  If you think there is something strange about the mail in ballot results and timing, perhaps you should speak with Mr. DeJoy – he engineered a good portion of the problem.  Judge Sullivan made that pretty Clear on 11/2.

  25. Joe Biden Is on Track to Win the Electoral College By Jonathan Chait

Joe Biden has taken the lead in the Electoral College and is on track to win the 2020 election. President Trump no longer has any incentive to stop counting the votes, because Biden is currently ahead in enough states to make him president. And the composition of the uncounted votes strongly positions Biden to expand his Electoral College lead.

  26. I like some of the sports analogies a commentator used last night, something like, we don’t stop the game in the 3rd inning, 2nd quarter, 1st half (pick a sport that plays to a win and not a tie) just because one team is ahead ….. we let the process play out, and play on remembering the wise words of a once smart man … “it ain’t over til it’s over!!”

  27. I am noticing R FB friends – who have always spouted “STATE’s RIGHTS, STATE’s RIGHTS!” post that they think a national election standard should be set by the feds and apply to every state.

  28. I think T’s next move should be issue an executive order declaring a national state of emergency due to “voter fraud,” declaring himself the victor, ordering all states to stop tabulating and to certify him as the winner of that state, and sending the national guards of every state to the miscellaneous county elections offices to seize all the ballots/voting tabulation equipment (to protect them from elections officials manipulating them to look was if they were legitimately cast), and then seek by way of Petition for Declaratory Judgment filed directly with the supremes an order upholding his order.  That makes about was much sense as SO.MANY.FREAKING.PEOPLE voting for him this time!!!

  29. Dead guy wins his seat in ND.

David Andahl died of covid-19 in early October, just as the coronaviruswas pummeling his home state of North Dakota. But that did not keep the 55-year-old rancher from winning his race for the state House of Representatives on Tuesday.

    As they say, it happens…

  30. Looking at the most likely final map of the states is very interesting.  First is the return of the Great Lake States, minus Ohio, to the Dem world.  That says the party is getting back to who we are.  Second is the modern West is now Dem.  The “Old West” is only the low population Western states now.  The states where men are men and the sheep are scared.  The Dems on the East Coast bring in the the Mid-Atlantic States and the Northeast.    Florida is a lost cause until the Baby Boomers are dead.  The deep South is a lost cause until the voting rights for all is established.  The Mid-West is in a hurt until we get rid of the EC.  And then there is Texas.  It needs to be freed from greedy old perverts, and that is coming soon.  This map shows the new America going forth.

  31. MJ, a declaratory judgment is an intriguing avenue, but there’s a fly in that ointment.  I’m sure you know this, but for the benefit of others who might not be familiar with DJs, courts issue those primarily in contract cases (although not exclusively) and they are based upon underlying rights and responsibilities of the parties as spelled out in the contract, or in this case, the law that governs the dispute.  In this case that would be state law regarding the receipt and counting of ballots. About the only areas where dipshit might get some traction would be a declaration that the officials charged with verifying signatures or postmarks have to do what the law of the state requires of them and must resolve challenges to their determinations.  I have never heard of a court issuing a declaratory judgment based upon its opinion of what the law should be rather than what it is.  I could just as easily see a federal court (Federal District, then Circuit, then Supreme) addressing the matter AFTER challenges were exhausted in State Court. And I can also see a counter that (using Federal Rules of Civil Procedure as an analogy) the voting occurs when the ballot is put in the mail (or other depository) and that to arbitrarily restrict the deadline for receipt to say, 3 or 6 days following the voting day unconstitutionally deprives the voter of his or her  right to vote.  I like the chances of that more than dumbass’ view of what is and is no t fair about the state laws since DJs are based upon law, not considerations of equity.

  32. RR – Hello to you and Rick and thx for your comment! I started to doubt myself when Charlie Cook was so adamant about an election decided by 10 PM Tues. that isn’t that close – have been looking for what he is saying now…

  33. craig & david, i agree also with not having much faith in FL & GA when it comes to enlightenment  but i really thought NC had seen the light and renounced its old ways.

  34. CNN keeps pointing that out Pat, but so far they haven’t called AZ, NV, MI. They’ll probably be extremely cautious about that because when they do call those states they can project Biden wins presidency.

  35. RR – interesting link – I want to hear Charlie say how he got it wrong. I think a lot of people lied to pollsters or pollsters screwed up again. Plus by my count of current House race status, Repubs might have come within 2 seats of taking the House…

  36. A bit early for this sort of griping, but these Senate/House results gets me thinking maybe it’s finally time to replace Schumer and Pelosi. Winning seats is part of their job. They haven’t just outlived their usefulness. They’re useless!

  37. way way too early for griping.  dems deserve a little party time for being so unusually disciplined this time around.  so soon you forget 2016 and bernie

  38. David….  I agree…  I think a lot of people lie to pollsters.  I know several that love to answer the  phone just so they can do that.  What really troubles me is the realization that many Americans no longer give a rat’s ass about ethics and values.  As an empire….  we are on the wane.  Sturg is right about reading about the decline of the Roman Empire….  it’s all there.

But I don’t mean to sound so down….   I’m still hopeful that Biden will pull this off.

  39. A little birdie tells me, “I am seeing House Dems at 219 or 220 if current  results hold – would mean R’s came within about 3 of taking House!! No one else saying that so far. Plus Louisiana runoff will be between 2 R House candidates, R’s likely came within 2 of taking House”

  40. Michigan looks ready to call for Biden. He’s ahead 38k with 94% reported and the remaining votes in pro Dem metro urban areas. Media called it for Trump in 2016 when he was about 10k ahead at this point. That gets us to 264

  41. Craig

Check those House winners.  I heard another birdie who said they purposely ran right wing women for the seats to get the female vote.

  42. In Detroit, pro-Trump protesters are trying to break into the vote counting facility demanding that the vote be stopped now.  Some have broken into the counting area.

  43. …really glad i’m not paying attention that closely, very stressful

i’m gleaning no flipped senate? Is that accurate?

  44. So now CNN has called both WI & MI for Biden, bringing him to 253.  NV & AZ takes him to 270.  Just heard Neal Katyal discussing what he thinks Dumbass might be talking about trying to do something re SCOTUS and bottom line is he has no idea about that and as he put it – these things take time.  He argued a case today that has been working its way toward final argument for 2 years.  Again, STF is his crack legal team thinking – that Dumbass’ view of what is and is not legal, what is and is not fair, or what is and is not a disgrace is somehow binding law or precedent to be applied by SCOTUS to give him an election he lost?

  45. If you have ever had to deal with a wounded wild animal you know what we are seeing with SFB.  This is a large, fat, orange rectum.  And, it will do all sorts a damage until it is shoved into a box and shipped to florida.

  46. I concur with my distinguished colleague from the Great Commonweal of Mary Land :

This is a large, fat, orange rectum.

In fact, the ‘it’ is a large, fat, orange Wrecktumsaurass. It can be easily identified by it’s many and redundant frivolous lawsuits.

  47. We learned this am that Sweetie tested positive for the C19.  I had my snout probed for the virus this afternoon.  Well, at least I got to see the slimester lose the election.

I presume that the First Stripper of the United States, her kid and her commie parents are all packed by now.

  48. XR, our best to Sweetie.  Hope all goes well.

How could it be possible to top those descriptions of Dumbass?

And talk about turn a phrase – George Will did a doozy:

Ransacking his mental thesaurus in search of exactly the wrong words, and finding them, President Trump, in his early-Wednesday-morning coda to his kamikaze campaign, distilled into six words a suitable cri de cœur for the leader of a party that has now lost the popular votein seven of the past eight elections: “We want all voting to stop.”

    Wish I’d said that.

  49. Um, the voting did stop.   It’s the counting of votes that must continue?

What charges can be filed against tRUMPsky’s domestic terrorists who tried to stop the count?

XR – All the best to you and Sweetie.

Although I am lucky to still have a job (so far), I dread going back to the office tomorrow. Hostile, tRUMP-lovers abound and glare at me for wearing a mask.

  50. I’m not sure about PA – Dumbass is up by 277,000 with just over 1,000,000 left.  He’ll have to get 65-70% more or less of the outstanding votes to overcome Dumbass’ current margin.  Heavy lift.

  51. Thank you, Ms Jamie and Mr Pogo. I’ll keep you apprised of Sweetie’s progress.

I’m starting to warm to that George Will fellow. I never thought that could be possible.

  52. X-R, please take care.  we need all the wits on the trail to get us thru the next 77 days while that lumbering   orange Loonus Wrecktumsaurass rampages in the halls of the peoples house.   you have my permission to  get sick (slightly, just enough to have a good tale to tell) only after jan 20th.   🙂

  53. Let me revise my prior comment about PA. The Dumbass lead has shrunk by 77,000 in 3 updates with plenty of votes outstanding for Biden to close that gap.

  54. bet the real reason behind the bogus lawsuit threats is to rake in a bunch of dough from his culties.  news report out that they’ve sent fund raising letters to the magaTs to help foot the legal bills.  knowing D’ump stiffs his lawyers (per m. cohen book), he’ll no doubt scarf up the donations for himself.  BTW won’t campaign have to report such contributions to FEC since recounts & such are campaign related?

  55. What kind of shenanigans will tRUMPsky pull?  Anything beyond bogus lawsuits?
I’m still really ticked off about MJ.  I’d like to know the difference between votes for all presidential candidates and votes for MJ and other down ballot candidates.  The lack of straight party voting probably cost Dems more the Repugz.  I have a feeling there were just anti tRUMP voters who didn’t bother with the rest of the ballot.
Gotta go face the enemy at work tomorrow, so I hope I wake up to good news.
