  1. please forgive the frivolity of favoring fat bears today over covering the current ferocious fighting in israel/ukraine/africa to say nothing of the chaos in critterville, domestic terror plots and democracy’s destruction.

trying to look on the bright side of life and accentuating the positive rather than continuing to yell day after day: “THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!”

  2. john oliver last night

John Oliver discusses homeschooling, its surprising lack of regulation in many states, and, crucially, Darth Vader’s parenting skills.

  3. Apparently, voting begins at Noon ET? I like Bucky Dent, like the horses I pick the names that entertain me.

Talk about news avoidance. I’m amazed how brazen some can be about channeling these horrific events into their own agenda. This is what Steve Bannon and his sick puppies like Charlie Kirk with shows on his streaming channel are pushing. They never miss a chance to stir up some good ole fashioned white supremacist fear and anger, no matter how irrelevant…

Hamas uses the EXACT lanugage as BLM. Watch closely—they are funded by some of the same groups, they have many of the same complaint—they even protest together.

What Hamas did to Israel is being watched closely by BLM race arsonists in America.

Playing into victim narratives can start a war.

    Pay attention.

  4. And of course, the Biden haters and Putin lovers must find fodder for their propaganda:

    Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

We need to work with Israel to track serial numbers on any U.S. weapons used by Hamas against Israel.

    Did they come from Afghanistan?

    Did they come from Ukraine?

Highly likely the answer is both.

  5. As someone on Twitter pointed out, the above is a good argument for tracking down where weapons used in US crimes were sold and charging the sellers with said crimes.

  6. Let the pols take sides. Seems to me this will not turn out well for for the Palestinians or their efforts to gain a foothold in the West Bank and Gaza adjacent to Israel on land that would be given up by Israel. It certainly doesn’t raise prospects that Hamas will be accepted as the political representative for the Palestinians. Tragic situation.

  7. Yeah if throwing a fuckin football had something to do with military policy Tuberville might be worth more than a bucket of spit.  It doesn’t and he’s not.

  8. trying to look on the bright side of life and accentuating the positive rather than continuing to yell day after day: “THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!”

…hell of a day you picked

  9. Don’t worry.  The sky won’t actually fall until Apophis hits Earth in 2069. Won’t be here for that, but it’ll make a close pass in 2029. Hmmm, does falling satellite debris constitute falling sky?

Is Isreal cutting off water and food to Palestinians a war crime?  I feel sorry for Israelis. I feel sorry for Palestinians.   What a mess.

Good news?   The Monarch butterflies are in TX.

  10. Wow… those bears are fat!

As for the situation in the Middle East… what Pogo said in his 7:26.

  11. Trump just now at New Hampshire rally boasts: “I’ve been indicted more than the great, legendary Al Capone. If you looked at him the wrong way he’d kill you. He was such a tough guy. I guess you could call him the king of the mobsters”

  12. I’ve been studiously semi avoiding the news channels having given up my 10+hour addiction in favor of 15 min now and then to see if the world is turning.

Hanging out with the liberal music lovers is good for your mental health as GOP exposure causes violent nausea.

Hamas needs to be eliminated but that would still leave Israel and Palestine with a mountain of problems.

  13. so rfkjr has decided to run as an independent
I hope he dies very soon. No need for him to ask. Who is the Asshole?

  14. https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/09/politics/kennedy-independent-campaign/index.html

“…last week, a super PAC supporting Kennedy’s presidential campaign released the results of a poll they conducted testing Kennedy’s strength in a hypothetical three-way race between Biden and former President Donald Trump.”

“The campaign will host a series of events in Texas, Florida and Georgia later this month, a campaign official told CNN, pledging to travel “everywhere” in the lead-up to next year’s general election.”

RFK Jr.’s Trail of Lies campaign. He’s a tRUMPer. I’d bet that he agreed to something with Orange Adolf to help him win a second term. Or, is he the back-up plan, hoping for a pardon? Of course, that won’t help with Georgia.

To help kick things off, I’m going to get my sixth vaccine this week.

“…the progressive activist Cornel West abandoned his Green Party bid in favor of an independent White House run. Meanwhile, the centrist group No Labels is actively securing ballot access for a yet-to-be-named candidate.”

“Kennedy has spent weeks accusing the DNC of “rigging” the party’s primary against him and threatening that he might need to consider alternatives.”

If RFK Jr. is hoping to ride his family’s name to the WH, then he gets all of it. Sex and drugs and Chapaquidick, South Beach, anti-semetic Grandpa Joe, all of it.

  16. https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/09/health/california-governor-bans-red-dye-no-3-wellness/index.html

“Nearly 3,000 products use red dye No. 3 as an ingredient, including sweets such as Skittles, Nerds and Trolli gummies; protein shakes; instant rice and potato products; and boxed cake mixes…”

“In his letter, the governor pointed to Skittles’ availability in the European Union, calling it “demonstrable proof that the food industry is capable of maintaining product lines while complying with different public health laws.”

“Newsom’s move brings the United States slightly closer to a food environment like that of the EU, where these chemicals are banned “due to scientific studies that have demonstrated significant public health harms, including increased risk of cancer, behavioral issues in children, harm to the reproductive system, and damage to the immune system,” according to Gabriel’s March news release.

“Also known as the California Food Safety Act, Assembly Bill 418 — introduced by Assemblymembers Jesse Gabriel and Buffy Wicks in February — prohibits the manufacture, sale or distribution of food products in California containing red dye No. 3, potassium bromate, brominated vegetable oil or propylparaben.”

  17. https://www.newsweek.com/trump-blasts-biden-hamas-claims-same-people-are-crossing-us-border-1833195

“The same people that raided Israel are pouring into our once beautiful USA, through our TOTALLY OPEN SOUTHERN BORDER, at Record Numbers,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Are they planning an attack within our Country? Crooked Joe Biden and his BOSS, Barack Hussein Obama, did this to us!”

“There is no evidence to back up the claim that militants from Hamas, which the U.S. government considers a terrorist group, are flooding across the U.S.-Mexico border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) statistics show that 76 people on the U.S. terrorist watchlist have attempted to cross the southern border during 2023 so far.”

“In addition, border encounters with migrants on the terrorist watchlist appear to have been significantly higher during the Trump administration than under Biden. Sixty-seven encounters were recorded under Biden in 2022, while 155 were recorded at the same point during Trump’s presidency, in 2018.”

Orange Adolf’s giant pants should burst into flame. He’s the one who will cause more domestic terrorism here. Shame on him and the MAGAts who prop him up.

“On social, media, some have suggested, without evidence, that Trump’s alleged sharing of classified intelligence with Russian officials during his presidency resulted in sensitive information from Israel being passed on to Iran, a Hamas ally. This brought speculation that the weekend’s attack on Israel was facilitated by the information sharing with the militant group.”

How does it feel now that the shoe is on the other foot, Donny?

  18. Capone king of the mobsters?
    Hardly.
He came to power in 1925

    Wiki
On June 5, 1931, Capone was indicted for 22 counts of federal income-tax evasion for the years 1925 through 1929. On June 12 Capone and others were charged with conspiracy to violate Prohibition laws for the years 1922 to 1931. In October Capone was tried, found guilty on three of the 23 counts, and sentenced to 11 years in prison and $50,000 in fines and court costs. He entered Atlanta penitentiary in May 1932 but was transferred to the new Alcatrazprison in August 1934. In November 1939, suffering from the general deterioration of paresis (a late stage of syphilis), he was released and entered a Baltimore hospital. Later he retired to his Florida estate, where he died from cardiac arrest in 1947, a powerless recluse.

But that part about going to prison?
    For taxes?
    That’s interesting.

  19. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4245980-kennedy-family-members-call-rfk-jr-s-independent-bid-dangerous-to-our-country/

“The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third-party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country,” read a statement signed by four of Kennedy’s siblings — former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (D), former Rep. Joseph Kennedy II (D-Mass.), Rory Kennedy and Kerry Kennedy.

“Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment. Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country,” the statement continued.”

  20. https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2023-07-17/robert-f-kennedy-jr-vaccines-president-candidate-conspiracy-theories

“…his campaign does pose a threat to a Biden reelection because it stokes left-wing distrust in democracy. Believe it or not, liberals and conservatives are converging in conspiracism. Kennedy’s popularity on L.A.’s Westside, a hot spot of conspirituality — where wellness and spirituality meet conspiracy theories — explains why.”

“Kennedy’s message can be spellbinding. He condemns the U.S. empire in Latin America. He rails against the collection of our data, which is used to manipulate us. He decries industry influence in Washington. Yet he freely contradicts himself. What’s going to protect us from corrupt corporate CEOs, in his opinion? Free markets, he says. In other words, letting them do as they please.”

    Folks, he’s a Republican.

“No wonder he’s supported by tech titans like Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey as well as by prolific grifters like Steve Bannon and Roger Stone.”

  21. I once stayed in Capone’s room at the Royal Hotel in Moose Jaw.   They used to go to Moose Jaw and buy liquor…..Corner room great view of the street.

  22. https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/09/business/billionaire-duty-free-shoppers-founder-charles-feeney-dead/index.html

“It’s much more fun to give while you are alive than to give when you are dead,” Feeney said in a biography about him, “The Billionaire Who Wasn’t.”

“Feeney set up the Atlantic Philanthropies in 1982, transferring all of his business assets to it two years later, according to the foundation. In 2020, the foundation closed its doors after it said it had successfully given away all of its funds.”

“In total, the Atlantic Philanthropies made grants totaling $8 billion across five continents — much of it anonymously, the foundation said. Donations supported education, health care, human rights and more.”

“Charles “Chuck” Feeney, a retail entrepreneur and investor who amassed a multibillion-dollar fortune and then gave it all away, has died. He was 92. He died peacefully in San Francisco on Monday, the Atlantic Philanthropies, Feeney’s foundation, said on its website.”

    RIP

  23. capone used to come down by rail to these parts to stock up on the local whiskey during prohibition. they even still have the bar called “little chicago” nearby where an old train station and a small hotel (where he would stay) used to be.  this area was well known for supplying the country during those dry days… over the years they kept up the practice and the reputation but with marijuana replacing bourbon.  it’s been dubbed the home of the cornbread mafia.

  24. https://www.wunc.org/politics/2023-10-05/nc-lawmakers-exempt-public-records-laws-democrats-secret-police-powers

“North Carolina’s legislature is now exempt from the public records law that governs other branches of government. The change is a last-minute addition to the state budget, and it comes alongside a major expansion of the legislature’s ability to seize documents from state agencies and private contractors.”

“That transparency law still applies to the governor, local mayors and agency leaders across the state. But a provision in the budget bill now cuts off that access for anyone seeking records from state legislators and their staff. It says the lawmakers themselves can decide what to make public — and which documents to delete or toss in the shredder.”

“A budget provision will let partisan staffers for the commission seize documents and enter offices of state agencies and government contractors.”

“Sen. Graig Meyer, D-Orange, says the access is so broad that the partisan investigators could enter private homes of political opponents without a warrant, if they use their home as the headquarters for a business. He compares it to a spy agency.”

“The advent of this type of secret policing feels more like opening the door of authoritarianism and should scare us all,” he said, adding that the language requires people contacted by Gov Ops staffers to keep the interaction confidential. “Companies hoping to pursue growth plans in North Carolina may completely avoid our state if they believe that our legislative Gov Ops Gestapo will be digging into their private information or walking into their doors to demand access to their computer systems at any moment.”

Well, North Carolina, how very South Carolina of you or, how very Nazi Germany of you!
