Like a deranged C-SPAN caller in his bathrobe, President Trump ranted and raved yesterday for 30 minutes from the White House on an early AM phone call to the “FOX & Friends” morning show — to such an extent that even the usually obsequious hosts seemed frightened, as if watching a drunk uncle smash their toys.
It’s worth watching the entire interview to fully grasp Trump’s madness, or at least skip to the 29:17 mark to watch the hosts cut him off, all but hang up on him. Or check out 25:13 when host Steve Doocy, a longtime Trump lap dog, tells him “We’re running out of time.” And yet Trump blathers on for another four minutes until FOX finally pulls the plug as he continues talking.
My guess is that panicked White House officials, horrified by Trump’s barrage of self-incriminating statements, called their friends at FOX to have the control room order the hosts to stop this rolling disaster. Or perhaps FOX boss Rupert Murdoch, who protects Trump in exchange for favorable FCC treatment of his empire, flipped the switch. For several minutes prior to Doocy’s attempt to end the interview at 25:13 you can see the hosts had gotten word to shut it down, as they each tried in vain to interrupt the President to end the call.
Whatever happened, it’s tough to find an example of any president losing his mind in public quite like this.
in beginning minutes the twit talks about what a great job his wife did with the macron visit. here’s another point of view from today’s the guardian:
What Brigitte Macron learned: only trophy wives count in Trumpland
In every public interaction of the Trumps there is drama. We see his hand wander to hers and when his little finger tickles her clenched fist, she relents and holds his in hers. She is glacial, resistant, but finally she surrenders.
The suffering of Melania Trump and her small acts of dissent, of swatting away her husband’s piggy hands are scrutinised eagerly by those who still refuse to believe that this man is still president. It has been one of the oddest features of the largely surreal state visit of Emmanuel Macron, and in its way, a consolation. If an accuser like Stormy Daniels cannot publicly humiliate Trump with lurid allegations, all we have by way of morale is witnessing the discomfort he so obviously feels about his wife’s very obvious refusals of public intimacy; those moments when she parades the fashion scowl of a woman who would rather be at a funeral.
And all of this has gained a sharper focus against the backdrop of Macron’s state visit. In contrast to Melania’s reticence, the male presidents seemed unable to keep their hands off each other. It has been mortifying to watch primate grooming rituals up close. They involve Trump brushing away Macron’s dandruff. There have been the hugs, the pats, the back-rubbing, the hand-holding, the kissing. The awkward embraces of these alpha males has been quite a thing. Trump seems to have a public intimacy with the French president that he just can’t achieve with his wife.

North and South Korea vow to end the Korean War in historic accord
lsan, South Korea (CNN)Leaders of the two Koreas have agreed to end the Korean War, 65 years after hostilities ceased, in a wide-ranging joint announcement struck Friday, that includes working towards the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his North Korean counterpart, Kim Jong Un, signed the “Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification on the Korean Peninsula,” at the demilitarized zone (DMZ) that has divided the two countries for more than six decades.
Following the signing ceremony, the two leaders clasped hands and hugged in a symbolic act of togetherness after a full day of meetings, including a 30-minute private conversation beamed live around world.

Captain Queeg: Ahh, but the strawberries that’s… that’s where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with… geometric logic… that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I’d have produced that key if they hadn’t of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers.

Flatus, I am waiting with bated breath for your comments on the Korean developments. (I am also waitng to see how SFB will try to claim credit for the actions of the Korean leaders).
Did YOU take the strawberries, patd, hmmm????
…. Which begs the serious question: if someone is truly mentally ill, are they responsible for their actions? Could this ultimately be a way out, literally & figuratively? How does a compassionate enlightened society handle such dilemmas?
This all may end with a sad whimper, not a big Mueller bang.
I can’t help but think of the Time cover photo of a melting Trump from a couple years ago. At this point… he’s not just becoming unhinged…. he IS unhinged.
Lawrence O’Donnell showed lots of snippets of this interview last night. He told his audience to pay particle attention to the woman in the middle as her face and body language betrayed her true feelings of concern for our president.
I’m sure that many snippets are being played around the world today. If we don’t elect a Democratic Congress in November… we’re fucked.
Jamie,
Young Prince’s name a nice nod to the Battenberg wing of the Royal family. While the focus is on Mountbatten of Burma I go a generation back to Prince Louis of Battenberg, who got totally screwed during the World War I anti-German backlash by the British public. Louis of B. was a loyal dedicated English Naval officer & husband of super woman Victoria of Hesse, one of the most capable, competent female royals ever.
Louis of B. was also a hunk, just sayin’
patd… no problemo… misunderstandings do happen between friends. What’s important is that they remain friends.
Haven’t seen the Caine Mutiny in a long time. Never read the book… gotta look for a used copy and rectify that situation.
Why didn’t Fox televise his being cut off? They could have drilled down for a major scoop.
The South/North Korea signing. It is an interesting document that will be supported by South Koreans. I don’t believe North Koreans will see immediate changes in their station in life.
For clarification. South Korean territory has been free of nuclear weapons and/or their components for well over three decades. North Korea’s major cash export is nuclear weapons technology; something must fill that gap. It’s up to all beneficiaries (China, Japan, Russia, U.S.) of a verifiable nuclear shutdown to fill their cash gap.
Why is no one surprised that Tom Brokaw is a sleaze?
NBC had a lotta dicks. Accepted culture no longer acceptable. Welcome to the 21st century, boys.
There are so many hits in this interview/monologue but I think my favorite is right at the top when he has to admit that he did not get Melania a birthday present, only a card. His idea of a gift was to call into a TV show and talk about himself.
Also, note that he says no collusion between Russia and “me” — is he acknowledging collusion with campaign, preparing to throw staff under the bus?
Patd
The Mountbatten men are definitely lookers. Louis of B and Victoria had that most unusual of royal marriages in that it seems to have been an actual love match between two intelligent and dynamic people.

paul ryan fires house chaplin for his disrespect to tax cuts. Although the sin of the ‘private server’ has been well-documented in congruss(ian) hearings against clinton? Ryan was peeved because he read that prayer as a “tilt to the Democrats” because it implied criticisms of the tax cuts being more beneficial to the rich (which they are).
Here is the offending prayer offered at the altar of tax cuts for the wealthy —
God of the universe, we give You thanks for giving us another day. Bless the Members of this assembly as they set upon the work of these hours, of these days. Help them to make wise decisions in a good manner and to carry their responsibilities steadily, with high hopes for a better future for our great Nation.
As legislation on taxes continues to be debated this week and next, may all Members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great Nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle. May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans.
May Your blessing, O God, be with them and with us all this day and every day to come, and may all we do be done for Your greater honor and glory.
Amen.
During the amazing morning rift by trump on fox and fiends? trump also referred to ‘MY justice department,’ shoving the entire citizenry out-of-the-way to make it his and only his private lawyer shop. During the comey interview, comey called trump highly intelligent, but morally bankrupt. Hubby doesn’t believe trump is intelligent. Why would comey make a point of that? I felt it was deliberate by comey to flatter trump to get him to talk and to set-up a ‘smart and savvy man’ instead of a buffoon patsy who just aimlessly wandered into the russian camp for money and cover. A smart man is prosecutable for his intent and motive which in this case are morally bankrupt, like trump’s businesses.
yep Blonde, my retired federal prosecutor cousin was really outraged by the “my Justice Dept.” line, said that will offend everyone who works there. Independence from WH is a religion for them.

Any tax-relief high the Gooperz were counting on will have subsided long before November.
FYI
“Seven Days In May” & “Advise and Consent” are on TCM this afternoon.
Prince Louis of B.
bw, more than the sin of praying that the tax cuts be balanced and shared, methinks speaker ryan fired the chaplin because he asked god to “Help them to make wise decisions in a good manner and to carry their responsibilities steadily….”
~~~~heaven forbid that they do that for a change~~~~~~
Here is a great line from Ms. Clifford’s lawyer after SFB’s Faux Snooze rant. “I think the president should appear on ‘Fox and Friends’ every morning,” Avenatti said. Indeed.
The real tax cuts were for the wealthy & the chaplain called the Critterz. Forcing the resignation was the tiny, dark remnant of Paul Ryan’s conscious getting to him & he just couldn’t face the truth. Again, go rot in hell.
Final House report: No collusion between Trump campaign, Russia
The House intelligence committee concluded Friday there’s no evidence President Donald Trump‘s campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
The heavily redacted 253-page report restates conclusions it made last month.
“The committee found no evidence that President Trump’s pre-campaign business dealings formed the basis for collusion during the campaign,” the panel report said. “The committee found no evidence that meetings between Trump associates, including [Attorney General] Jeff Sessions, and official representatives of the Russian government, including Ambassador [Sergey] Kislyak, reflected collusion, coordination or conspiracy with the Russian government.”
The committee did, however, find fault with the presidential campaigns of both Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton — criticizing “poor judgement and ill-considered actions” in each campaign, including the Trump team’s “periodic praise for, and communications with, WikiLeaks, a hostile foreign organization.”
The report faulted Clinton’s team for hiring Fusion GPS to conduct research on Trump for what later became known as the “Steele dossier” — which alleged Trump ties to Russia.
[….]
Ranking Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said the committee ended its investigation prematurely last month and promised the probe will continue — with or without Republican involvement.
Schiff said significant changes were made to the report between March and this week. He also said the committee’s initial belief was that Russian President Vladimir Putin showed no preference for Trump or Clinton in the presidential race.
By the time the final report was drafted, Schiff said, the GOP majority on the committee “could no longer defend this claim and watered down its findings.”
Trump immediately celebrated the report’s findings.
“Just Out: House Intelligence Committee Report released. ‘No evidence’ that the Trump Campaign ‘colluded, coordinated or conspired with Russia.,;: he tweeted. “Clinton Campaign paid for Opposition Research obtained from Russia. Wow! A total Witch Hunt! MUST END NOW!”
Schiff quickly responded.
“Mr. President, to conclude there is ‘no evidence’ of collusion, you must ignore Russia’s extensive efforts to help your campaign, the litany of communications between Russia & your campaign, & the massive effort to conceal these contacts,” Schiff said in a tweet.
U.S. judge tosses Paul Manafort suit seeking to bar special counsel Mueller from bringing future charges
A federal judge Friday dismissed a lawsuit brought by Paul Manafort challenging special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s criminal probe of Russian interference in 2016 U.S. elections.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson tossed out Manafort’s attempt to bar the special counsel from bring future charges against the President Trump’s former campaign chairman, citing the “sound and well-established principle” that potential defendants not use lawsuits to “circumvent federal criminal procedure” that already provide for individuals to challenge charges.
[…]
“A civil case is not the appropriate vehicle for taking issue with what a prosecutor has done in the past or where he might be headed in the future,” Jackson wrote.
Courts should not “interfere with or enjoin an ongoing criminal investigation when the defendant will have the opportunity to challenge any defects in the prosecution in the trial court or on direct appeal,” Jackson wrote, adding, “The court finds that this civil complaint must be dismissed.”
So, the “Russian adoption” lawyer was/is really a Kremlin informant. Way to go, Donny Junior.
Between Satanic sychophant Steve Doocy, eager weasel Brian Kilmeade, the vapid Barbie Doll, our disgusting President, and those awful, bold-color graphics designed to appeal to a 4 year-old mentality, I can’t bring myself to even watch a clip of FoxNews, but I do have a question for those that watched:
Do you think our disgusting President slept the night before the now-infamous call into “Fox&Friends”(what a terrifyingly Orwellian name for a morning show)? I’m curious as to how much sleep Our National Embarrassment is getting- I’m guessing almost none.
BiD, thanks for catching that. here’s abcnews on the story:
An organization established by an exiled Russian tycoon says it has obtained emails showing collaboration between Russian government officials and the lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. in 2016 and has denied having connections to the Kremlin.
The emails the Dossier organization said it was sent suggest Natalia Veselnitskaya worked closely with a top official in Russia’s prosecutor-general’s Office to fend off a U.S. fraud case against one of her clients.
[…]
Dossier is an arm of exiled tycoon and Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the onetime oil billionaire who spent aa decade in prison on fraud and tax-evasion convictions that were widely seen as retaliation for his political ambitions and opposition to Putin.
Dossier said Friday it had been sent a series of emails from 2014 that show Veselnitskaya set out strategies for responding to a United States request for assistance in a money-laundering case involving her client.
Veselnitskaya was helping to defend the Prevezon Holdings company and its owner, Denis Katsyv. U.S. prosecutors accused Katsyv of laundering proceeds from a $230 million Russian tax fraud scheme by buying real estate in the U.S.
Dossier published screen shots of what it said were emails about the case between Veselnitskaya and Sergei Bochkarev, head of the criminal investigation division of the prosecutor-general’s office.
Back in the day, when to get out of the deepest South, I volunteered for Korea. It was a thirteen month tour, six in, one out, six in. It was also a combat tour because it was a war zone. I did not go. I sure would have liked to have done the tour.
Will the two make peace? I have my doubts. But, this is something away from the past. Did SFB have a role in this? I have my doubts. It is possible that the talks have been going on for a long time.
Today is Finland Veterans Day. Although it commemorates the Finns getting rid of the Naziis in 1944, it also celebrates all of Finland’s veterans. I am flying the Finnish flag for my great-grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and all of Finland’s veterans. Although almost all are buried now, many of my family in Finland fought the Soviets in 1939-1940 Winter War, when Stalin invaded Finland. They did good, and essentially without any help from other countries. Sisu.
Buzzfeed:
A Federal Judge Just Put Stormy Daniels’ Lawsuit On Hold For At Least 90 Days
A federal judge on Friday put Stormy Daniels’ lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen on hold for at least 90 days due to the ongoing criminal investigation into Cohen.
[…]
Cohen’s and Trump’s lawyers argued for the stay, saying Cohen’s Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination would be implicated if Daniels’ lawsuit were to proceed while Cohen faces the possibility of criminal prosecution in the New York investigation.
Otero agreed — granting a stay and setting a conference to discuss the status of the stay on July 27.
“While it is undeniable that Plaintiff has a valid interest in the prompt resolution of her claims, where Mr. Cohen’s Fifth Amendment rights are heavily implicated and the potential impact on the criminal investigation substantial, Plaintiff’s interests do not outweigh the necessity of a stay,” Otero wrote.
Under Otero’s order, the parties are to file a joint report on where things stand with the criminal investigation on July 17.
Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, tweeted that he and his client “likely” will be appealing the decision “early next week.”
@MichaelAvenatti
While we certainly respect Judge Otero’s 90 day stay order based on Mr. Cohen’s pleading of the 5th, we do not agree with it. We will likely be filing an immediate appeal to the Ninth Circuit early next week. Justice delayed is justice denied. #basta
Mr. Ryan moved quietly two weeks ago to remove the chaplain, the Rev. Patrick J. Conroy — so quietly that some lawmakers assumed the Catholic priest was retiring. But in an interview on Thursday with The New York Times, Father Conroy said he was blindsided when Mr. Ryan asked him to resign, and suggested politics — specifically a prayer he gave in November when Congress was debating a tax overhaul — may have been a factor in the speaker’s decision.
Father Conroy prayed then for lawmakers to “guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans.” Shortly after, he said, he was admonished by Mr. Ryan of Wisconsin, who is also a Roman Catholic.
“Padre, you just got to stay out of politics,” he recalled the speaker saying.
[….]
The controversy exposed long-simmering tensions between Roman Catholics and evangelical Christians over who should be lawmakers’ religious counselor. And a public clash between Southern evangelical Republicans and Northern Catholics could play to the advantage of Democrats, who are pressing hard to bring working-class Catholic regions in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin back into the Democratic fold.
The controversy was heightened when Representative Mark Walker, Republican of North Carolina and a Baptist minister, said Thursday in an interview with The Hill newspaper that he hoped the next chaplain of the House might come from a nondenominational church tradition who could relate to members with wives and children.
Catholic Democrats quickly called his remarks anti-Catholic, as Catholic priests are celibate, and Mr. Walker’s spokesman later said Mr. Walker was not excluding a particular faith group. One Republican, Representative Peter T. King of New York, took issue with the comments.
“To be excluding one religion up front, that has all sorts of connotations coming from the evangelical community,” Mr. King said in an interview. He said he had received several inquiries from priests about Mr. Ryan’s decision, and he told the speaker, “This issue is not going to go away that quickly.”
[….]
Father Conroy, who was named to the post in 2011 by another Catholic Republican speaker, John A. Boehner, said that he did not regard his November prayer as political in nature.
“If you are hospital chaplain, you are going to pray about health,” he said. “If you are a chaplain of Congress, you are going to pray about what Congress is doing.”
He said Mr. Ryan’s remarks to him afterward marked the only time anyone from the speaker’s office had chastised him for veering into the political realm.
“I’ve never been talked to about being political in seven years,” he said.
[….]
The Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and an editor at large of America magazine, said he has heard from Catholics who are “dismayed” that a chaplain would be fired for apparently defending the poor, and he worries about the anti-Catholic dog-whistling.
“The implication that, as one legislator said, a ‘family man’ would be more suitable smacks of anti-Catholicism,” Father Martin said. “By that yardstick, Jesus wouldn’t qualify either.”
Big Orange drinks Red Bull? Doctor Ronny’s special pick-me-up pills? Maybe, but doubtful. It seems that he’s always been high energy (the clip sounded like he was manic) and has always operated on little sleep.
Why did the Russian lawyer admit to Kremlin ties after previously denying it? Is she leaving a new crumb on the trail for Mueller?
Here’s to the moment Craig comes out of anesthesia and realizes the Trump admin is not just a weird dream.
Paul Ryan is a Catholic, right? This family man garbage is just that. Garbage.
Paul Ryan is just awful. (Ha! Automatic word-fill came up with “is just awful.”)
Different rites, denominations, sects, & cults, can have very different rules. Eastern rite, Episcopalian, and Lutheran priests can have wives and families. They are obviously in. Female Pentecostal preachers can’t have wives, but they can have families, are they in or out ? Brethren don’t have ministers, so they’re out. Certain kinds of Mormons can really load up on the wives and kids, so they must be reeeeeeally in. Snake handlers can have wives and kids, and snakes would certainly fit in with Speaker ryan’s House.
