  1. “Choked”?  Wow. Donald J. tRUMP is  a tone-deaf monster.

The officers who sat on George Floyd for nine minutes…they were the ones who “choked” while choking the life out of the man?

The man who was woken up in a Wendy’s parking lot and was then shot as he tried to run away (how far was a sleepy, drunk man going to get?) not because they mismanaged they situation to the point he felt he had to run, but because they choked?

Why do they seem to “choke” when a POC is involved?   Why do interactions escalate  more quickly and devolve into a violent, and often deadly, outcome when that interaction is with someone who isn’t white?

No.  There is systemic racism in policing of communities.  This is law enforcement that has been militarized.  Shoot first, ask questions later.   No people skills,  No understanding that they are there as a part of the community to help the community.  Protect and defend.

  2. It is just another book by someone who hates him.

Sure is.  There are so many books already published and so many promised for the near future one has to have an extra shelf added to the reading room.  All that sitting, all that reading and there is a dumptruck load on the horizon.  Just think of the tell all books once the grifters are in jail.

  3. The worst of it was protecting white women from those marauding black men moving into the suburbs.  Add in the dark shadow denizens boarding planes dressed in black.

  4. …knocked around until the white guy with a stick puts them in a hole, 18 times.

    Yeah, i guess it works🤷‍♂️

  5. another day, another anti-D’ump ad from another group he has offended

    nbcnews:

A pro-immigrant group is releasing an ad in battleground states calling out President Donald Trump for racist anti-Asian rhetoric in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 60-second ad “Words Matter,” created by Immigrants’ List Civic Action, will air on local stations in Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin in the weeks leading up to the November presidential election, and has already been posted to social media.
The ad features news stories with headlines like, “Parents fear anti-Asian racism as schools mull reopening” and “Hate crimes, harassment of Asian American rise” alongside Trump repeating refrains like “Chinese virus” and “kung flu” in reference to COVID-19. The ad cites some of NBC Asian America’s reporting on the topic.
“Tell Donald Trump words matter,” the ad reads in bolded text at the end.
    […]
According to the group, the ad is one of several that is set to be released appealing to marginalized or minority groups, including Latinx Americans, Arab Americans and immigrants, in battleground states.

Kurzban said all the states his team selected were places where Trump won by a very small margin in the 2016 presidential election. He believes getting people of color and recent immigrants who haven’t voted before to the ballot box in larger numbers will turn the tide in those states.

  6. “Couldn’t you have done something different, couldn’t you have wrestled him?” pondered Trump. “You know, I mean, in the meantime he might’ve been going for a weapon.” -dipshit, from same interview

    …just a really dumb guy

  7. i’ve been shot in the face with a paintball- it hurts like hell and left a welt for weeks, and i would have blinded in one eye if it had hit an inch higher.

    Ok✌️❤️🇺🇸

  8. We had BB gun fights when we were kids. My participation in that exercise ended after I hit a guy in the forehead, about an inch above his eye. He was hollering and covered his face with his hands so for a bit there we were all afraid he got it in the eyeball.    It got me to thinking……

  9. Sturg, I’m tired of the way these conversations have taken the last couple of days. I’m patriarch of a multi-racial family. Should I learn the identity of any one that is fucking with one of my charges, that individual shall have hell to pay. Now, will you join me in asking Craig for some moderation?

  10. Flatus, I hear ya, but there’s a world of difference between talking about attacks by anyone on one’s family irrespective of the race of the aggressor or the victim and discussion about systematic racism in police departments and the White House and the idiots in the trucks (and others) and opportunistic 3rd party factions clouding the facts of who did what to whom.  Not sure I pin the blame on Craig for any heat in the discussion (although I have been an infrequent contributor lately I do read what’s happening here). I’ve seen his focus on doing what needs to be done to get D’ump out of office.  I agree with him in that regard, btw.

Oh, and too bad, so sad for Flynn and Barr.  The DC Circuit’s 8-2 decision to deny Flynn & DOJ’s attempt to force Judge Sullivan has revealed a few things and suggested others – the legal vapidness of Neomi Rao and Karen Henderson, the attempt by Flynn & Barr to misuse longstanding precedent of the Court system to bypass the lower court before it makes a decision, that somehow Barr and DOJ attorneys seem to think they can direct the Court system to a political end…  Flynn and DOJ may prevail ultimately, but the DC Circuit laid down a marker – you have to have a decision in the District Court before you seek relief from it in Circuit Court of Appeals.  I find the legal underpinnings of the case to be troubling.  Applying the Flynn and DOJ theory – if ultimately DOJ decides that a case does not have merit, it retrospectively can decide that the investigation into the case should not have been done and that in that event lying to investigators was OK.  Combine that with an underlying theory that if all the above occurs, guilty pleas (and potentially convictions – but that would depend on the scope of the investigation) can be reversed.  I find that nonsensical and damaging to the function of law enforcement and investigations into potential criminal acts. And trust me – I am no strong advocate of law enforcement gone awry.

  11. Flate…..I’m not sure exactly which conversations you’re referring to, as I’m not always paying full attention, but that said,  I have no qualms about joining with  you in any endeavor you might choose to pursue.
     Ergo:
Flate and I hereby call for moderation.

  12. I am fully in support of moderation everywhere except for anyone who may be attacking family, Biden, Kamala, or Pelosi. Or Al By-god Franken.

  13. From the DC Circuit’s decision – summary of the decision.

As to Petitioner’s first two requests—to compel the immediate grant of the Government’s motion, and to vacate the District Court’s appointment of amicus—Petitioner has not established that he has “no other adequate means to attain the relief he desires.” Cheney v. U.S. Dist. Court for D.C., 542 U.S. 367, 380 (2004) (quoting Kerr v. U.S. Dist. Court for N. Dist. of Cal., 426 U.S. 394, 403 (1976)). We also decline to mandate that the case be reassigned to a different district judge, because Petitioner has not established a clear and indisputable right to reassignment. See id. at 381. We therefore deny the Petition.

And it goes on to explain…

A petition for a writ of mandamus “may never be employed as a substitute for appeal.” Will v. United States, 389 U.S. 90, 97 (1967); see also Roche v. Evaporated Milk Ass’n, 319 U.S. 21, 26 (1943) (“[Mandamus] may not appropriately be used merely as a substitute for the appeal procedure prescribed by the statute.”). The writ is a “potent weapon[],” “a drastic and extraordinary remedy reserved for really…
FN2 We also hold that the case is not moot. While the Government has filed a motion to dismiss and Petitioner (defendant below) consents, there remains a case or controversy unless and until that motion is granted by the District Court. Cf. Rinaldi v. United States, 434 U.S. 22, 31–32 (1977) (per curiam) (reviewing a district court’s denial of an unopposed Rule 48(a) motion).
…extraordinary causes.” Cheney, 542 U.S. at 380 (citations and internal quotation marks omitted). “[T]he writ cannot be used ‘to actually control the decision of the trial court,’” Platt v. Minn. Mining & Mfg. Co., 376 U.S. 240, 245 (1964) (quoting Bankers Life & Cas. Co. v. Holland, 346 U.S. 379, 383 (1953)), because “[a]s an appellate court, we are a court of review, not of first view,”
    (Remaining citations omitted)

IOW, unless Sullivan grants the Motion to Dismiss, Flynn’s case will be around for quite some time and the DC Circuit will get another chance to review Judge Sullivan’s denial of the motion if he does so.

  14. flatus, I too am wondering about the immoderate conversations on the trail to which you allude.  are you referring to specific and offensive things one of us here has written?   particularly egregious videos?  a poorly chosen cartoon or linked story?

hard to know how to correct my bad behavior (if i’m the perpetrator of such incivility and hatefulness) if you don’t tell me what the wrong was.

  15. cnbc:

A federal appeals court in New York City said Tuesday that it will act by the end of the day on a request by President Donald Trump to block, at least temporarily, a grand jury subpoena seeking his income tax returns from his accountants.
And a lawyer for Trump and for the Manhattan district attorney, who is seeking those returns as part of a criminal probe, told a three-judge panel on the appeals court that if the panel grants a stay of the subpoena, they would both be willing to agree to an expedited schedule to appeal a lower court order upholding that demand for documents.
Trump’s lawyer, William Consovoy, told the panel during a hearing Tuesday that if it does not grant him a stay pending a full appeal hearing of a lower court order, he wants an administrative stay that would allow the president time to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to block the subpoena for now.

“You can expect something from us by the end of the day,” said Judge John Walker of the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit after listening to arguments over the stay from Consovoy and a lawyer from Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office.

  16. People in Park Cities (wealthy enclave in Dallas proper) are complaining that their Trump yard signs are disappearing. Police say it is a crime. I’d like to see someone replace them with an identical yard sign that has been changed to Biden. That’d be a hoot. How long would it take them to notice?

  17. announcement today by Lincoln Project:

September 1, 2020 – In the wake of the Republican National Convention that set out to stoke the flames of fear and racial tension, today. The Lincoln Project announces the first wave of veterans, military, and national security community members who have joined our Leadership Coalition in an effort to encourage participation in our election process. The Veterans and Military Community Leadership Coalition consists of veterans, Blue and Gold Star family members, caregivers, and advocates of those who have bravely and selflessly served our nation.

The group will work to help spread the mission of The Lincoln Project through the military and veteran communities and will also actively encourage veterans to help ensure a free and fair election by signing up as poll workers and volunteers across the nation. Links will be provided on The Lincoln Project’s website to assist veterans in signing up with their local supervisor of elections.

“Our veterans, service members, and their families know what a leader should be and have seen first hand how Donald Trump has failed his sacred duty as Commander-in-Chief,” said Fred Wellman, The Lincoln Project’s Senior Advisor for Veteran’s Affairs. “Words are not enough to show support for them and now we continue to face a global pandemic amid efforts to undermine our national elections. So, now we are called upon to step up again and fight for our nation and volunteer at home to serve locally in our communities as poll workers and supporters when so many cannot because of their risks of illness. We are thrilled to have this incredible group of advocates join our effort at The Lincoln Project.”

  18. And just for the record, I’ve been a southerner since 1756.
West Georgia style until after the great unpleasantness.

  19. TT – The correct substitution for a tRUMP sign is a burning cross.  If they want to proudly support the grand dragon, do it.  Don’t pretend he’s just the Republican candidate.
As for Asian-Americans being targeted, I have several friends who’ve adopted children from Korea and China.  These parents are white, upper-middle class folks.  What impact will tRUMP’s base of neo-Nazis have on their votes?

  20. (clicking that tweet brings you to the rest of the thread Vindman would like you to read)

  21. I would like to endorse and associate myself with Sturge’s 12:14 comment and BID’s 12:19 comment.  As a product of the Heart of Dixie and way too close contacts with the racist right in my youth (I was surrounded by them), anything that ushers in a New South is fine by me.  And yes, the burning cross is the appropriate substitute for a D’ump yard sign.  And I can hardly wait for the “investigation” results of the plane full of darkly dressed people wh pull Biden’s strings.  Even Laura Ingraham can’t keep SFB between the lines.

  22. From the Vindman OpEd:  “Our citizens are being subjected to the same kinds of attacks tyrants launch against their critics and political opponents. Those who choose loyalty to American values and allegiance to the Constitution over devotion to a mendacious president and his enablers are punished. The president recklessly downplayed the threat of the pandemic even as it swept through our country. The economic collapse that followed highlighted the growing income disparities in our society. Millions are grieving the loss of loved ones and many more have lost their livelihoods while the president publicly bemoans his approval ratings.

When I was asked why I had the confidence to tell my father not to worry about my testimony, my response was, “Congressman, because this is America. This is the country I have served and defended, that all my brothers have served, and here, right matters.”

To this day, despite everything that has happened, I continue to believe in the American Dream. I believe that in America, right matters. I want to help ensure that right matters for all Americans.”

  23. I had liked that Vindeman tweet earlier.  It is important.

Pogo – although from Michigan I had deep racists as relatives.  They were Dems.  For them racism was like breathing, just what they were.  How would they handle 2020 v 1967?  I am sure they would not understand because they did not have the intervening decades to evolve their thinking.

  24. I don’t do horse races, but I’d take NY Traffic in a heartbeat.  If only they’d let me out of TX and wouldn’t make me self-quarantine for two weeks.

  25. jamie, the horse i originally wanted was pulled this morning. so now my choice is the underdog Finnick the Fierce. his post position is the rail, he’s one-eyed and with a name like Finnick you gotta root for him.

here’s what they say about him on derby page:

A son of 2011 Kentucky Derby favorite Dialed In, out of the Southern Image mare Southern Classic, Finnick the Fierce figures to be a fan favorite on Derby Day. He is an underdog, battling to hold his own against tough competition. He has overcome adversity, having lost his right eye at an early age. And who doesn’t love a good longshot?

  26. derby tales from the crib on Finn the fierce

If you’re looking for the tug-at-the-heartstrings contender to root for in the 2020 Kentucky Derby (G1), one-eyed Finnick the Fierce qualifies on multiple levels. His dam came from a racehorse adoption facility, and he lost his right eye as a baby due to a congenital cataract. Bred by a college student, he races for his childhood veterinarian and his hitherto little-known trainer.
Finnick the Fierce’s story begins when Paige Gilster, then pursuing her degree at Iowa State, was interested in getting her first broodmare. As part of her studies in the equine program, she’d assisted at the Canterbury Park test barn, where she met Dr. Dick Bowman. Aside from being the longtime state veterinarian, Dr. Bowman operates his Second Chance Adoption Ranch for racehorses off the track.
    […]
Gilster recounted an anecdote that reveals what a “strong, stubborn” baby Finnick was. His dam was not back in foal, and Gilster wanted to take her out to the round pen for an easy ride. Finnick of course was tagging along, and he marched straight through the line of trees despite being virtually blind on his right side.
As soon as he realized the situation in the round pen, though, he vetoed it. This exercise with mom did not have his approval, and he made sure to convey the message by blocking their path. Not even two months old yet, the spunky little guy imposed his will.
“He just stood there in the middle and stared at me,” Gilster said. “He got mad because he wasn’t doing what he wanted to do. He would come and stand right in front of her.
“You’re trying to take away my milkbag,” was his objection. “She’s mine, and you’re not going to do anything.
“My ride lasted all of about five minutes!”
Finnick also knew how to take care of himself when they were introduced to other horses in the field. He was careful to position himself so that his blind side was always next to his dam.

  27. Trumpco has been griping for months about Drudge negativity. Trump dispatched Jared to deal with Drudge, but Matt only got worse. Drudge is a leading indicator of conservative thinking, but he’s also a master of click bait and obviously figured out trashing Trump gets more eyeballs than worshipping him. Just wait, he will harvest traffic  savaging Biden if Joe elected

  28. Been wondering when, like Drudge, FOX realizes their future ratings better off trashing a Biden presidency than defending a lame duck Trump second term. Matt has turned on Trump to facilitate that outcome.

  29. Watching Laura Ingraham last night I just know she’s thinking can’t wait until the day I can stop defending this lunatic and grow my audience by full time trashing President Biden.

  30. BB, how did I miss LeTour’s 1st 4 stages?  I guess I forgot when it was to be run this summer – So Julian Alaphilippe leads with a whopping 4 second lead and Adam Yates is points leader.  Should be fun to watch – again. Might see some shuffling in Stage 6.

  31. I think I have everyone so far

Jamie – NY Traffic  & Necker Island

    Renee – Tiz The Law

    Patd – Finnick the Fierce

    Sturgeone – NY Traffic

    BiD – NY Traffic

  32. I hope Pres Biden recalls LtCol Vindeman to active duty. He, along with the others similarly booted, deserve a fair chance to compete to serve our country in a rank reflecting their competencies.

  33. Yes, Flatus. And he’s already said he’ll put Fauci back in the driver’s seat. Also I like you calling him President Biden right now, I’m adopting that going forward

  34. Wonder if there’s any way to edit tRUMP’s interview to make him sound less idiotic and/or slightly human?

  35. You learn the most incredible things while reading the daily digest.

And then they have cans of soup. Soup. And they throw the cans of soup. That’s better than a brick because you can’t throw a brick; it’s too heavy. But a can of soup, you can really put some power into that, right?
    MR. MCHALE: Yes, sir.
THE PRESIDENT: And then, when they get caught, they say, “No, this is soup for my family.” They’re so innocent. “This is soup for my family.” It’s incredible. And you have people coming over with bags of soup — big bags of soup. And they lay it on the ground, and the anarchists take it and they start throwing it at our cops, at our police. And if it hits you, that’s worse than a brick because that’s got force. It’s the perfect size. It’s, like, made perfect.
And when they get caught, they say, “No, this is just soup for my family.” And then the media says, “This is just soup. These people are very, very innocent. They’re innocent people. These are just protesters. Isn’t it wonderful to allow protesting?” No, there’s — and, by the way, the media knows it better than we do. They know what’s going on. I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They’re doing our country a tremendous disservice — I’ll say that.

  36. Pogo – I was on my boat and the Wi-Fi was in and out.  As Phillipe was making his move with only about fifty seconds left to the finish line the thing died.  My words were rather nasty until the signal returned with him out front and about ten meters from the line.  Quite a finish. I missed yesterday, but saw today.  The race is good comfort.

  37. United States bows out of 170-nation vaccination plan because of Trump's racism and tantrums

Because Donald Trump is a pouting incompetent manbaby, the United States will not be participating in a global COVID-19 vaccine development and distribution plan. That’s it, that’s the only reason. The Washington Post reports that the Trump administration won’t be joining the 170-plus-nation drive to jointly develop, manufacture, and distribute an eventual COVID-19 vaccine because Donald Trump is still mad at the World Health Organization for not being racist enough against China, so that’s that.

  38. Donald Trump Has Declared Himself Impotent A pitiful, hapless tyrant of a president blames the problems his administration has caused on out-of-office Joe Biden.

The man who promised us at the 2016 convention that “I alone can fix it”—though there wasn’t much to fix, but a lot to break—stood before us as a pitiful, hapless tyrant. Trump takes no “responsibility at all” for Covid-19, or for any of the country’s many crises—meaning he’s confessing he lacks any power to fix them. The most powerful man in the world, in other words, has declared himself essentially impotent. He has not fixed anything. But he has broken so much.

  39. BB, a few days ago on the trail you opined that D’ump had had a stroke and from your observations it looked like his right side was affected.  kudos to you for scooping  schmidt’s book & D’ump’s tweet denial of a mini-stroke.

  40. Jamie,  put me on Storm the Court because, well …

I was watching Rachel tonight for a bit. JHC.,, SFB has gone over the edge. He’d be strapped to a bed and heavily sedated. 60 years ago  Morforger is seriously beyond nutz.
