  4. more turmoil roils in not so great Britain.  the guardian reports:

    Scottish appeal court judges have declared Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend parliament in the run-up to the October Brexit deadline is unlawful.
    The three judges, chaired by Lord Carloway, Scotland’s most senior judge, overturned an earlier ruling that the courts did not have the power to interfere in the prime minister’s political decision to prorogue parliament.
    Lawyers acting for 75 opposition MPs and peers argued Johnson’s decision to suspend parliament for five weeks was illegal and in breach of the constitution, as it was designed to stifle parliamentary debate and action on Brexit.
    The judges failed to issue an interdict, or injunction, ordering the UK government to reconvene parliament, prompting a row over whether the decision meant MPs could go back to the House of Commons.
    The court issued an official summary of its decision declaring the prorogation order was “null and void”, but Carloway said the judges were deferring a final decision on an interdict to the UK supreme court, which will hold a three-day hearing next week.

    The BBC’s assistant political editor, Norman Smith, said it was quite likely that Mr Johnson would recall Parliament before a Supreme Court ruling on the case next week – and perhaps as early as today or tomorrow.

    … the Court of Session judges said they were unanimous in their belief that Mr Johnson was motivated by the “improper purpose of stymieing Parliament”, and that he had therefore effectively misled the Queen in advising her to suspend Parliament.
    They added: “The Court will accordingly make an Order declaring that the prime minister’s advice to HM the Queen and the prorogation which followed thereon was unlawful and is thus null and of no effect.”

  12. Follow up on NC 09.  It is obvious, Democrats need to do a much better job to GOTV.

    There are 539,918 registered voters in #NC09. Only 188,977 bothered to vote. 35% voted. Dems: 92144; Repubs: 96081 Out of 201,083 registered Dems, 46% bothered to vote Out of 161,600 registered Repubs, 59% bothered to vote. IF 59% of Dems had voted, McCready would have won

  14.  Poobah, I think Bink is referring to the fact it in the general election McCready lost by less than a point. Last night in the special election he lost by four points.
     
    I listened to a little bit of SFB’s tribute at the Pentagon on the anniversary of 9/11 and one of the things that caught my attention was that SFB said that over the past four days we have hit our enemy harder than they have ever been hit. Curious minds would like to know if we are actively at war with the Taliban. Of course the other alternative like so often happens – SFB is simply lying through his teeth. It any rate I’m going to be closely watching news coverage for something confirming or refuting that statement.

    ps… it’s the anniversary of 9/11…  and the only thing the media cares about is a football player.  Yes… I know he’s a Patriot.  If he’s guilty…   off with his head!  But talk about being distracted with the latest shiny object…

  18. Take aways from the NC elections.  First is lousy GOTV by Dems.  Put some fear into the voters.  Second is the two point difference in what should be a fair election.  I hear a lot about how NC and VA are somehow turning purple.  It does not look like it yet.
    I wonder if SFB will make it another, roughly, fourteen months.  There are so many leaks about his temper tantrums and rage fits, that it makes it hard to not believe those are not happening.  Looking at his overall world, the real world where he is a fat, low intelligence, monster child who is losing his mind, and the little Nazi world he lives in where all is good except for those who hate him.  If he does not go howling at the Moon mad first, he might stroke out or blow out a vein.  Not good for that dynasty he is desiring.

    craig, given that the twit has raised over 200 million for reelection plus whatever the rnc might have socked away,  they just might be able to duplicate that in their must win campaigns.

    …um, no.  The Dem lost by 9oo votes in the voided election, he lost by over 4000 yesterday.  He lost by less than a percent in 2016, and lost by 2 percent yesterday.  In that district, GOP made GAINS.

    A loss isn’t a win.

  22. …this was all in a district where the GOP cheated in the last election, to an extent that the election for that Representative was voided, and the conservative rank-and-file voters there STILL rewarded the GOP with the seat.  
     
    If there’s a takeaway, it’s that average conservative voters are completely fine with entrenched corruption and big-money influenced elections.  Be afraid.

  26. My bad on the margin. It was 52-48 last time I checked before retiring to even more mindless tv. But as I think about it I think mccready was ahead and starting to see his margin going away. 
     

  27. Trump is trying to discredit recent polls because he’s losing in all of them. He is so screwed. I’ll say it again: He’s going to drop out rather than face certain defeat.

  28. If red-state Dems aren’t motivated enough to grab the low-hanging fruit in a special election for a seat the GOP tried to steal, that’s really bad news, and bodes ill…
     
    Another takeaway might be that, as KGC has often admonished: Democrats might not be able to reach significant numbers of casual Trumpers in must-win swing-states, which is especially worrying since Dems can’t even get registered party members to vote.
     
    i’m putting the worst possible spin on this- it’s a disaster.

    Trump/Bishop did worse in the suburbs then the goops did last time.  Bad sign for fat ass the golfing president

  42. Not all of them are kept in cages.  Some Bahamian children are stuck in foster homes.  Then there are the sick ones being deported even if it will kill them.

    Presidential empathy at work.  

  43. Jamie,  add to those the Bahamian children whose parents can temporarily get asylum in USA but can not seek work in order to feed, clothe or house them while they’re here..
