The House Republican Majority Is Down to Almost Nothing
Unexpected vacancies have whittled the G.O.P.’s edge to just a couple of votes, leaving Speaker Mike Johnson with almost no margin for leading the chamber.

A surprise resignation and a sudden death have left House Republican leaders starting the new session of Congress with their already slim majority down to the bare minimum of 218 seats.

Speaker Mike Johnson is now able to afford just two defections on any party-line vote if all members are present — and in an election year, they seldom are. In the coming weeks, his situation is expected to become worse, whittling down the margin to a single vote.

It is the continuation of a dynamic that has plagued House Republicans since President Trump took office in 2025: A majority so small that it gives outsize power to any one member who wants to buck the party. It makes governing difficult, if not impossible. [continues]

  6. https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5687775-house-republican-rebellion-gop-bills/

Republican centrists and populists in the House on Tuesday blocked a series of GOP labor bills on the chamber floor, marking the latest blow to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and his leadership team, who are increasingly losing their grip on the restive Republican conference.

“I don’t like the idea of people potentially getting taken advantage of doing free training, and they’re off time, not making an hourly rate,” Moore said. “It’s optional, but there could be undue pressure that’s put into place for some of these folks, which I don’t particularly like.”

Several of the GOP rebels also expect a bill led by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) that was teed up for a vote later in the week would also be pulled.
That bill, the Save Local Business Act, would amend which employers would be considered joint employers of workers who worked for a different employer. The AFL-CIO argued this week that the bill would let “big corporations hide behind complex business structures.”

The House was poised to vote Tuesday evening on three Republican bills designed to ease regulations on businesses…

Reps. Rob Bresnahan (Pa.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Nick LaLota (N.Y.), Riley Moore (W.Va.), Chris Smith (N.J.), and Jeff Van Drew (N.J.) voted against the Hinson bill, with Republican leaders failing to convince the members to flip after holding the vote open on the House floor for more than 45 minutes.

The failure of the bill prompted GOP leaders to scrap their plans to vote Tuesday evening on two other labor-related bills. The first, sponsored by Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Ind.), would alter the way overtime pay is calculated by excluding consideration of the value of employer-sponsored coverage of child care or elder care.

The second, sponsored by Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.), would modify and expand the definition of a tipped employee.

Leaving the House floor, Johnson downplayed the rebellion.

  7. As I age I keep changing my biggest regrets of being unable to live another fifty years. Building over the last ten plus years is not being able to live long enough to tell generations after this time what it was like watching a bunch of white supremacists and fascists take over the United States. I cannot tell them what it is like to feel powerless as a minority that is being blamed for everything and made to be listed in the steps of genocide, a genocide executed by those in power.

I just saw another Transgender person I know has emigrated to another European country. She too worked in the federal government and had shared the stage with me for LGTB and Transgender presentations. Brain drain from America, not to America.

During the last years I have been asked why I do not do a lot of activist things. I used to, the other day I was looking at pictures from the last twenty-five years and all that I had done. Vice-president of a LGBT lobby organization. Run for office as the first Trans person to run on the issues, not LGBT issues. Community board seat. And, more. But, I am physically done now. I can write checks (I like paper), I can cheer on, but no longer able to walk. Sidelined, but I have computers with keyboards.

Our little Transgender world needs allies to support and fight for our lives. We can only do so much on our own.

  8. A Ford worker called out Trump. The president flipped him off. Now, he’s been suspended.

Worker called Trump a ‘pedophile protector’ during tour of Dearborn factory

The worker has since been identified by the Washington Post as 40-year-old TJ Sabula, a line worker and member of UAW Local 600.

Sabula told the paper he has “no regrets” about what happened at the factory.

“I don’t feel as though fate looks upon you often, and when it does, you better be ready to seize the opportunity,” Sabula told the Post. “And today I think I did that.”

In a statement to the Advance, White House communications director Steven Cheung called the worker “a lunatic” who was “wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage.”

“And the president gave an appropriate and unambiguous response,” Cheung said.

“As working families struggle to make ends meet in Trump’s economy, the Trump family and their wealthy donors keep getting richer — there’s no bigger ‘F-you’ than that,” said DNC Senior Advisor for Messaging, Mobilization and Strategy Tim Hogan in a statement. “The real question is: Why does the mere mention of Epstein set him off?”

*Yeah, why is that? Let Ford hear from you if you think a worker’s free speech is worth protecting. Orange Adolf used his to respond to the Ford employee. The guy is union, so hopefully his job is safe. I think he showed great restraint in only calling him a “pedophile protector” instead of a “pedophile.”

Ford’s website has a bunch of phone numbers but no email address, just a chatbot. Guess the social platforms will have to do their thing to force Ford’s hand.

World Cup thrown into chaos as Trump blocks fans of 15 nations from entering the US

The State Department released an internal memo on Wednesday that directed consular officers to deny visas from 75 different countries while the department reexamines procedures for screening and vetting applicants.

Of those 75, 15 are due to compete in this summer’s tournament across the US, Mexico and Canada – including one of the big favorites: Brazil.

Remarkably, three of the four teams in Scotland’s Group C are affected by the visa chaos, with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti all included on Trump’s red list.

That could mean emptier stadiums for all of Scotland’s group-stage matches, with games taking place in Foxborough (vs Haiti and Morocco) and Miami (vs Brazil).

Algeria, Cape Verde, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Iran, Jordan, Senegal, Tunisia, Uruguay and Uzbekistan are the other nations affected by the bombshell plans.

The State Department is expected to implement the indefinite freeze on January 21, and the Daily Mail has reached out to FIFA for further clarification on how fans of those nations are likely to be affected.

‘Immigration from these 75 countries will be paused while the State Department reassess immigration processing procedures to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who would take welfare and public benefits.’

*Nobody wants to come to this sh/thole country. What benefits? We don’t have even get healthcare with our taxes. Only the billionaires get US benefits, so maybe block Saudis and Qataris.

  12. Kayteabear, is there any video of the actual raid? I saw news coverage but they shied away from showing much to protect the privacy of minors on the scene. How’s that for a mind blower — not showing federal agents harassing minors to protect their privacy!

  13. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/jan/13/elon-musk-grok-hegseth-military-pentagon

Pete Hegseth announced on Monday that the US military will begin integrating Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence tool, Grok, into Pentagon networks.

“Very soon we will have the world’s leading AI models on every unclassified and classified network throughout our department,” Hegseth said.

Hegseth also unveiled a new “AI acceleration strategy” at the Department of Defense that he said will “unleash experimentation, eliminate bureaucratic barriers, focus on investments, and demonstrate the execution approach needed to ensure we lead in military AI and that it grows more dominant into the future”.

The military’s new integration of Grok follows last year’s announcement that the defense department had awarded contracts of up to $200m to the Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and xAI to “develop agentic AI workflows across a variety of mission areas”.

Grok, which is embedded into the social media platform X, has come under fire in recent weeks for allowing users to generate sexual and violent imagery. It has since limited some of its image generation function to paid subscribers, but the backlash continues to bite: on Saturday Indonesia temporarily blocked access to Grok as a result, and Malaysia soon followed suit.

In Britain, the media watchdog Ofcom has opened a formal investigation into X regarding the use of the Grok to manipulate images of women and children.

The flood of sexualized images is not Grok’s only controversy. Just before the announcement of the $200m defense department contract, the tool declared itself a super-Nazi, referring to itself as “MechaHitler” and making antisemitic and racist posts.

  14. https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/american-born-student-beaten-choked-1472085

A Houston teenager said a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent choked him, beat him, and yelled racial slurs at him when he was on his way to school. He is a U.S. citizen.

“Their vests, they didn’t say ‘police’ (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), nothing. And that’s when me and my dad got scared because they started hitting our window, tried to open the door,” the younger Bazan said. “Me and my dad went to fight-or-flight mode, and we just backed away.”

The dad drove away in fear, but they were chased by the agents and rammed into their car several times. Eventually, the two stopped their car and tried to flee the situation, but were instead tackled and choked by the agents in a restaurant supply store.

“I saw they started choking him, kicking him, punching him,” Barzan said. “It’s when I reacted, I just ran to my dad, and (another agent) grabbed my shirt. I didn’t hit nobody. I didn’t do nothing to nobody. I was just standing there recording on my phone. And they took my phone. Then that’s when they tackled me. I said I was underage, the dude started choking me more.”

Afterwards, the father and son were taken to a nearby parking lot, where agents called both of them racial slurs and “border hoppers.” While the teenager is a U.S. citizen, the father’s current immigration status remains unclear.

Cesar Espinosa, executive director of the local immigrant-rights group FIEL Houston, said Arnulfo was deported at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2000 and was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2015, though he served his sentence for that offense.

The two were taken into custody, but the teenager was released after a few hours. Arnulfo remains detained by ICE at the Montgomery Processing Center.

“As ICE presence increases in our city, we fear that more incidents like this can unfold. We try to have our folks be ready in case they face ICE, but how are we as community members supposed to know who is who if ICE doesn’t identify themselves? In our beautiful, diverse city, we are so worried for our communities and all the families that will be separated and hurt by this administration,” Espinosa said.

“We do ask for justice, not only for my family but for all those other families who are out there who cannot get their voices heard and who are probably feeling really scared right now,” Maria Bazan, Arnoldo’s older sister, said. “What’s going to happen next? Who’s next? Remember, they start with one group, and it continues until they are surrounding us with fear. That is not what America stands for, and that’s why we’re here fighting for what others cannot fight for.”

Dozens of the vehicles were found parked in a Northland lot Tuesday morning. Many of the vehicles displayed ICE logos on the doors.

While there were rows and rows of marked cars on Tuesday, there were no signs of immigration enforcement agents or activities, only the parked vehicles.

Governor Walz Readies State Resources, Notifies National Guard to Prepare to Protect Public Safety in Minneapolis Following Federal ICE Shooting
    January 7, 2026

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Following a shooting involving federal ICE agents in Minneapolis, Governor Tim Walz today directed state agencies to mobilize resources to support public safety efforts in Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

The Governor has directed the National Guard to conduct necessary preparation in the event they are needed to assist local and state authorities. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has been activated to coordinate the state’s response and ensure resources are positioned efficiently.

Vance-hosted Greenland meeting ends with ‘fundamental disagreement’
Diplomats from Denmark and Greenland agreed to set up a “high-level working group” after meeting with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House, but said there was little agreement so far.

By Adam Taylor and Michael Birnbaum

Denmark’s foreign minister said there had been a “frank but also constructive” conversation with the Trump administration in a high-stakes meeting about Greenland at the White House on Wednesday, but that the two sides had come to no agreement about President Donald Trump’s demands to “own” the Arctic territory.

“We still have a fundamental disagreement” about the future of Greenland, said Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the top Danish diplomat, speaking alongside his Greenlandic counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, outside the Danish Embassy in Washington. “We didn’t manage to change the American position.”

The White House meeting, which was hosted by Vice President JD Vance, did see the two sides agree to form a “high-level working group” to discuss Trump’s concerns about Greenland, Rasmussen said. The White House and State Department did not immediately provide their own readout of the meeting, which was also attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The governments of Denmark and Greenland, a self-governing territory that remains part of the Danish realm, requested a meeting initially with Rubio, Danish officials said. They did so last week after a series of provocative statements from Trump and at least one senior aide, who have suggested the United States could use military force to seize the territory of approximately 57,000 people.

Ahead of the meeting, Trump reiterated Greenland’s importance, writing on social media Wednesday that “the United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security” and saying that its strategic Arctic location made it necessary for the proposed Golden Dome missile defense system he wants to build. “NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES. Anything less than that is unacceptable.”

He warned that if the U.S. doesn’t take over Greenland, Russia or China will.

In an apparent response to Trump’s security criticisms, Denmark and Greenland announced Wednesday that there would be “an expanded military presence in and around Greenland” in cooperation with NATO allies. “The purpose is to train the ability to operate under the unique Arctic conditions and to strengthen the alliance’s footprint in the Arctic, benefiting both European and transatlantic security,” the Danish Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on social media that “several officers” from the Swedish armed forces were also arriving in Greenland on Wednesday, along with others from “several allied countries.” Danish officials did not say which other countries were involved.

So will DODO effectively go to war with NATO? Is he THAT stupid? (Rhetorical question regarding his stupidity)

  18. Concerning that Ford assembly plant: The parts my department make every day get shipped to that Dearborn assembly plant that Trump toured. As for me, despite that fact that I hate Trump, I would not have done what the worker at the Ford plant did. Mainly, because he could lose his job over this. Trump is not worthy of losing your job. It sucks, but he’ll probably come out of this worse than Trumpy will.

  19. Update: I just read that a Detroit Free Press headline that people have raised $500,000 for the Ford worker who heckled Trump. Never mind what I said about “I wouldn’t heckle Trump” like that Ford worker did. LOL!

  20. From an HR perspective, I will be interested to learn if heckling a President (or anyone) is a firing offense, and if so, is not the President’s instant retaliation (a worse-level behavior) also a “firing offense?”

  22. https://www.tmz.com/2026/01/14/laura-jedeed-passed-dhs-background-ice-hiring-process/

Journalist Laura Jedeed should be considered a domestic terrorist, according to the Donald Trump administration’s warped metric … but she tells “TMZ Live,” she was hired by ICE anyway!

Despite maintaining an online portfolio chock-full of Trump hate and anti-ICE sentiment, Jedeed — who says she has her own page on an Antifa watch website — passed ICE’s shoddy screening process with flying colors.

As a veteran of the U.S. military, Jedeed may look like a good candidate at a cursory glance.

But, she says … “If you type my name into a computer, you will immediately find that I am very vocal about how I feel about ICE, how I feel about Trump. I’ve written articles with titles like, ‘What I Saw in L.A. Wasn’t An Insurrection, It Was a Police Riot.’ I am simply not what they are looking for.”

Jedeed told us she was also given a job despite not accepting it — she says it was listed on the agency’s jobs portal — and taking a drug test less than a week after using cannabis, but that’s not the main point.

DHS responded to Jedeed’s story, saying, “This is such a lazy lie. This individual was NEVER offered a job at ICE.Applicants may receive a Tentative Selection Letter following their initial application and interview, that is not a job offer. It just means they are invited to submit information for review, similar to any other applicant.”

But Jedeed clapped back with a video of herself logging into ICE’s portal, where she was greeted with a graphic welcoming her to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, with an onboarding date and everything.

    Pretty damning evidence, guys!

*That means ICE would be easy to infiltrate…by lefties or ISIS or anybody.

  23. https://www.rawstory.com/ice-2674892707/

A Department of Homeland Security whistleblower has allegedly released the personal information of about 4,500 Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol employees to an activist database in what may be the largest personnel data breach in the agency’s history, with the fallout tied to outrage over the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.

According to reports, the leaked dataset — shared with the volunteer-run ICE List project — includes names, work emails, phone numbers and job roles for thousands of frontline agents and supervisors, prompting concerns about safety, internal dissent at DHS and the risks of exposing federal law-enforcement personnel to public scrutiny.

*Why should they have privacy if we don’t?

  24. https://newrepublic.com/post/205310/ice-secret-programs-domestic-spy-network

The brutality Americans are witnessing from Immigration and Customs Enforcement is just the tip of the iceberg: the agency is reportedly running nearly two dozen secret operations to spy on all of us.

ICE and the IDF: The Transnational Nexus of State Control

U.S. and Israeli officials have made comparisons between their respective walls, Israeli companies provide the same radar and surveillance services used by Israel to the U.S., or law enforcement exchange programs between the U.S. police and Israeli police continue to share suppression tactics. Groups like the Anti-Defamation League have encouraged several exchanges wherein law enforcement officials, including those from ICE, have exchanged “best practices.”

Moreover, ICE and the IDF have similar modalities—operating through the use of militarized checkpoints, constant surveillance, and sometimes arbitrary detentions and arrests—making the connection between the two entities exceedingly clear.

Bolstered by private contractors, ICE and the IDF maintain ideological connections. They seek to punish those who oppose the imperial and ethnonationalistic tendencies that both ICE and the IDF espouse.

  25. Kayteabear’s husband got our chatroom drumroll today. Raised this question: Is Trump in a hurry to break laws and expand his power with the idea he’ll just pardon himself and anybody on his team? The question hangs heavy.

  27. https://www.heritage.org/marriage-and-family/report/saving-america-saving-the-family-foundation-the-next-250-years

Far fewer elderly Americans live with and depend directly on their children and grandchildren now than they did in the past—due in part to vast entitlement programs.

*Like the Social Security we pay into, and like the Medicare taxpayers also subsidize…for themselves and others. The government doesn’t EXIST without taxpayers.

…if a culture tends to treat marrying and having children not as a duty or guiding aspiration, but as just one of many life paths or consumer preferences. Family size is largely a function of how much people value getting married and having children, not in the abstract but compared to the alternatives.

*Alternatives for women, they mean, like getting education, having a career, and controlling her own money.

A large share of the blame for the present malady lies in moral and cultural trends that have both fed and been fed by government policy. Chief among these is surely the sexual revolution, which separated the sex act from marriage and childbearing. It is not just that sexual mores were revolutionized. Technology and policy also played key supporting roles. Starting in the 1960s, the Pill and other contraceptives swept the country—which promised to reduce the unwanted consequences of casual sex with multiple partners across a lifetime.

    *They’re coming for birth control.

Like two gravitational objects interacting, the law soon influenced and was influenced by culture on this score. No-fault divorce laws became nearly universal, and divorce rates skyrocketed. Even when the divorce rate leveled off from its peak, it was largely explained by the fact that fewer people bothered to get married.

*They won’t let women out of an abusive marriage.

Meanwhile, despite wide access to contraception, non-marital birth and abortion became ever more jointly common, especially following Roe v. Wade in 1973. Even some noted academics on the Left have acknowledged that the “shock of abortion and female contraception may have played a major role in the rise of out-of-wedlock childbearing.”

The perverse incentives of the welfare state also expanded the fraction of non-marital births—especially among lower-income Americans and minorities.

*Hmmm, “lower-income Americans AND minorities.” Minorities are being categorized as separate from Americans.

*This is brought to you by the N&zis at the white-Heritage Foundation, the same monsters who concocted Project 2025 and The Esther Project.

  28. We are slow right now. Orders are really low this month. Supposedly, they will go back to normal in February.

You can call them 1 million things, “cowards” is accurate

  31. “Mila 18 is a historical novel by Leon Uris set in German-occupied Warsaw, Poland, before and during World War II. Mila 18 debuted at #7 on The New York Times Best Seller list and peaked at #2 in August 1961. Leon Uris’s work, based on real events, covers the Nazi occupation of Poland and the atrocities of systematically dehumanising and eliminating the Jewish people of Poland. The name “Mila 18” is taken from the headquarters bunker of Jewish resistance fighters underneath the building at ulica Miła 18 (18 Mila Street, in English, 18 Pleasant Street). (See Miła 18.) The term ghetto takes on a clearer meaning as the courageous Jewish leaders fight a losing battle against not only the Nazis and their henchmen, but also profiteers and collaborators among themselves. Eventually, as the ghetto is reduced to rubble, a few courageous individuals with few weapons and no outside help assume command of ghetto defense, form a makeshift army and make a stand.”

  32. There’s a lot about the Nazis to never forget.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_Uprising

The Uprising began on 1 August 1944 as part of a nationwide Operation Tempest, launched at the time of the Soviet Lublin–Brest Offensive. The main Polish objectives were to drive the Germans out of Warsaw while helping the Allies defeat Germany.
An additional, political goal of the Polish Underground State was to liberate Poland’s capital and assert Polish sovereignty before the Soviet Union and Soviet-backed Polish Committee of National Liberation, which already controlled eastern Poland, could assume control. Other immediate causes included a threat of mass German round-ups of able-bodied Poles for “evacuation”; calls by Radio Moscow’s Polish Service for uprising; and an emotional Polish desire for justice and revenge against the enemy after five years of German occupation.
Casualties during the Warsaw Uprising were catastrophic. Although the exact number of casualties is unknown, it is estimated that about 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed and about 6,000 badly wounded. In addition, between 150,000 and 200,000 Polish civilians died, mostly from mass executions. Jews being harboured by Poles were exposed by German house-to-house clearances and mass evictions of entire neighbourhoods. The defeat of the Warsaw Uprising also further decimated urban areas of Poland.

  33. The N&zis are going to march on January 17th.

So, ICE taking the day off?

Because EPSTEIN is breathing down his neck, tRUMP is desperate to turn the entire country into a police state. MLK Day is coming up on the 19th. Expect some extra-horrible stuff to go down.

What would they do if everyone just stopped spending? Stopped traveling anywhere except work & school, and maybe not even that? These f-ers need to be taught who runs this country & they only learn when it hits their profit margin.

  34. Tim Walz needs to call up the damned Guard to protect civilians from ICE. I mean, WTF?

Will our military take out the regime, because Congress just refused to prevent them from taking more action against Venezuela, again.

Congress may as well not exist for all the good they’re doing.

    Release the Epstein files!

  35. Who could’ve predicted the consequences of 50 years of football-branded jingoism? Who possibly??? any ideas who????

I can give you a hint

    still a bop

  36. https://www.politico.com/news/2026/01/13/white-house-end-funding-sanctuary-cities-states-00726557

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he will suspend federal funding to sanctuary cities and states beginning Feb. 1 as his administration’s immigration crackdown continues.

    *It’s not an “immigration crackdown.”

“Starting February 1, we are not making any payments to sanctuary cities or states having sanctuary cities because they do everything possible to protect criminals at the expense of American citizens,” Trump said during his address at the Detroit Economic Club.

He continued, “It breeds fraud and crime and all of the other problems that come, so we’re not making any payment to anybody that supports sanctuary cities.”

*When ICE comes to a town and they commit crimes. It’s a domestic terrorist organization.

Congress appropriated the funds, so there will more court cases that the taxpayers will have to pay the legal fees.

  37. So, the guy ran inside his house and they shit him through the door. There was a child and a pregnant woman in the residence.

And no, Chuck Schumer, you weak idiot, ICE does not just lack training. They are being paid to terrorize the country to see how much we can take. The are trying to normalize this sh/t and Congress does nothing.
