The Epstein Joke “Deleted Itself”?

Jamie Calls Out the Distraction Machine

“There was supposed to be an Epstein joke here… but it deleted itself.”

That’s how the ESPY Awards handled it — and Jamie’s not letting it slide.

In this clip from our livestream, we break down how distraction works when a story hits too close to home. Redactions, rewrites, and a media cycle built for forgetting.

  1. For the next ten months Stephen Colbert can finally speak unvarnished truth to power, including in response to the president’s post celebrating The Late Show’s cancellation, and about the creepy birthday letter Donald Trump sent to his good pal Jeffrey Epstein.

  2. Jon Stewart dives into Trump’s crude birthday card to Epstein and his desperate attempts to distract MAGA with Hillary’s emails, the release of the MLK files, and the return of racist football mascots. Plus, Jon reacts to CBS cancelling “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and calls upon corporations, advertisers, and institutions to “sack up” with the help of the “Go F**k Yourself” choir.

  3. Seth takes a closer look at Donald Trump and the MAGA movement reeling from a series of bombshells regarding Trump’s longtime friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

  4. well, if some magas didn’t know by now due to past silence of faux news and other like silos they do know now — at least those who read their local paper — from deep red heartland country an op ed from another cartoonist

    Trump, Epstein case: Darcy cartoon
    By Jeff Darcy, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — There is a President Trump and MAGA meltdown in different directions over the Jeffrey Epstein case records that has the MAGA caps red hot and frayed.
Many MAGA’s have joined bipartisan calls in Congress for transparency with the Epstein files. The President wants ‘Trumparency’, the concealer ICE masking type.
On freak out Friday, President Trump sued The Wall Street Journal for libel, seeking $10 billion, over it’s story on his alleged “bawdy” birthday note to Epstein. He also called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to request a Judge release the Epstein grand jury records with caveats. Neither gambit is likely to pay off, just like his bankrupt casinos didn’t.
Sued were The Wall Street Journal, owner Rupert Murdoch, publisher Dow Jones, also owned by Murdoch, and the reporters who wrote the birthday greeting story.
WSJ reported that Trump was included in “bawdy” leather bound birthday messages book for Epstein. Inset in a free-hand drawn outline in thick back marker of a nude female, was the message reading in part:
“Happy Birthday- and may every day be another wonderful secret.”
Trump’s signature was on the outline of the nude female’s groin.
Was the nude female ment to represent the many 14 year-olds Epstein was found to have preyed on?
The leather-bound scrapbook of birthday greetings had been put together by Ghislaine Maxwell. She was Epstein’s ‘Girl Friday/Felon’ convicted of sex trafficking with and for him.
Her conviction in now on appeal, and is another reason odds are against a Judge releasing the grand jury records. Maxwell is arguing she is covered under the same deal Epstein reached with the Dept. of Justice NY Southern district office.
Before filing his libel suit, Trump on ‘Truth Social’ blasted the story as “FAKE” saying it wasn’t in his voice or hand, even though it perfectly fit both.
“These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn’t print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I’m going to sue his ass off, and that of his third rate newspaper.”
    ‘GRAB ‘EM’ AUDIO:
Trump claiming a note described by WSJ as “bawdy” doesn’t sound like him is laughable to anyone who’s heard his Billy Bush ‘Access Hollywood’ ‘grab ‘em…’ tape. Trump can be heard boasting to Bush that women let him grab their groin.
    ‘STORMY DANIELS DOES DONALD’ SEXCAPAID:
Trump himself has already been found liable for sexual assault of E. Jean Carroll. Then there was the ‘Stormy Daniels Does Donald’ sexcapaid.
    DONALD’S DOODLINGS:
The President is not only well known for using a thick black marker, he’s actually had his free-hand marker outlines of the NYC skyline auctioned for charity.
In his first term, he made news for his on-camera black marker drawing of a hurricane route over Florida that was wrong.
In part of the birthday message attributed to Trump the word “Enigma” is used. Video has now been released of Trump saying “Enigma” in a past speech.
Trump has already lost or saw many other libel and defamation suits dismissed. Expect to see the same happen with this suit against the Wall Street Journal.
The grand jury records Trump wants Bondi to have released, make up just a small part of the Epstein file, and any Judge is unlikely to approve because federal law generally prohibits that.
Bondi, under her own authority, has plenty of other records she could release right now, like the visitor log books to Epstein’s island and private jet, he dubbed ‘Lolita.’

  5. Leave it to a political cartoonist to point out where the lack of transparency in trumpland really is – not in the Epstein grand jury files and tapes but in the DOJ Epstein files. However, Ghislane Maxwell has a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari pending before SCOTUS challenging her prosecution in SDNY because of a non prosecution clause in Jeffrey Epstein’s plea agreement covering his co-conspirators in the SDFL case that resulted in his sweetheart 18 month sentence. The issue is whether that NPA applied to SDNY in its prosecution of Maxwell because its language can be read as applying to the United States (as opposed to only SDFL). I (hate to) admit that I agree with the DOJ Brief in Opposition to Maxwell’s Petition and suspect that there is little chance 2 of the RWNJs will give her a chance to overturn her prosecution and sentence. As long as that appeal is pending Blondi isn’t going to release any files from Epstein’s case, so if I’m right we’ll get nothing and like it.

  6. I wonder why none of the MAGA paid attention to Mark Burnett’s warning about Trump. It was so obvious how much of a conman Trump was then and always had been. Guess the closest Burnett came to an apology to America is this:

Apprentice Boss Mark Burnett Sets the Record Straight: ‘I Am Not Pro-Trump’
Mark Burnett is clarifying his stance on his former Apprentice host Donald Trump.

In a statement released Wednesday, the TV producer says, “Given all the false media reports, I feel compelled to clarify a few points. I am not now and have never been a supporter of Donald Trump’s candidacy. I am Not ‘Pro-Trump.’ Further, my wife and I reject the hatred, division and misogyny that has been a very unfortunate part of his campaign.”

  7. Morning thoughts about sfb are minimal with a lot of future thoughts and prayers. First is the move of Vance to London. It gets his name up there just in case mangomoron cannot make it to visit the king, he is nearby and ready to party. A big second is krasnov has been out of sight since last week. He did go stink up a golf course Saturday and Sunday, but no public or media appearances. Online he has been super active, but most of that is just babbling for the media and his cult. Third is the massive attempt to flood the world with anything to overwhelm the Epstein suck. It is not working, Epstein is still overwhelming.

Each little picture, or video, or clip from interviews from the past, seems to imply we do not know enough of the world that sfb and Epstein played in. A few things are floating around making it sound like there are pictures or movies of the mangomoron have sex with young boys. That would be the most important reason in his head to do anything to keep all of the Epstein information buried.

  8. Poobah,
It may not matter to DOJ that there are rules prohibiting the release of GJ materials (it does – desperately) but show me a district court judge who rules that those rules don’t apply and I’ll show you three circuit court judges who disagree. That would be about the only case GM’s attorneys would win on two appeals levels.

  9. New math.

Historically, presidents looked to 50 percent job approval as the key indicator of their standing with the public. For Trump, 40 percent is the new 50 percent. The remainder of his second term will look very different if his job ratings are consistently below that line rather than above it. How the Epstein saga plays out could be a major factor.

  10. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mark-burnett-the-apprentice-creator-trump-special-envoy-to-the-u-k/

Mark Burnett, the power producer who helped reintroduce President-elect Donald Trump to a national television audience with “The Apprentice,” is being tapped by the president-elect to the newly-created post of special envoy to the United Kingdom in his upcoming administration.

Burnett, who was born in London, helped produce hits like “Survivor” and “The Voice,” but is perhaps best known for teaming up with Trump for “The Apprentice,” which first aired on NBC in 2004.

The United Kingdom, which has long enjoyed a “special relationship” with the U.S. that makes it one of Washington’s strongest global allies, is not typically a candidate for such posts.

But Trump has announced a series of special envoy positions to several top loyalists ahead of Inauguration Day on Jan. 20…

The president-elect said Burnett “will work to enhance diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges.”

    *What changed since December, Mark?

  11. Taking their time before the pardon to re-write an entirely new “Epstein report” that will be unveiled in the fall.

  12. Bink… so sorry for the loss of your fur baby…

The 156 acre secluded property in Bradford NH where Ghislaine Maxwell was found is now for sale for $2.5 million according to the Boston Globe.

  13. NEW SHORT: This DOJ request for Epstein transcripts is LEGAL NONSENSE — and THEY KNOW IT.

    We read the actual rule.

(Spoiler: It doesn’t say what they want you to think it says.)

  14. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/house-paralyzed-epstein-files-2nd-week-row/story?id=123953105

The GOP-led Rules Committee — which was working on advancing a slate of unrelated bills — came to a halt Monday evening because Democrats announced their plan to force a committee vote on bipartisan legislation that would call for the release of the Epstein files.

Republicans on the panel decided to recess the meeting with lawmakers saying there were no plans to reconvene at all.

*A mini government shutdown because of the Epstein files that don’t exist and also that Obama created and that are being flagged by the DOJ for mentions of Donald J tRUMP, adjudicated grapist.

  15. Yes, the sub plot on Ghislane Maxwell speeds up. She’s angry hard for a pardon agreeing to talk with Congress. That will never happen, dumbass is gonna partner. Let him explain to his loyal Christian base why he pardoned a child sex trafficker. This shit’s getting deep and it’s getting deep quickly. And are we all distracted by it? Seems so, and that would be the point. And that little motherfucker Mike Johnson is being Trump‘s bitch on this stuff.

But looking at a few other things, I see that Gavin Newsome is ready to have California follow Texas’s lead and redistrict. My guess is a California redistricting would benefit democrats.

  16. Anon, I didn’t understand about your pup, but am so sorry to learn of it. There is no love like the unconditional love of a dog. 🐾

  17. Thanks Renee, i do miss being worshipped 😒

    oh and Ivy, also.

She been gone awhile, but what is “time”, eh?

  18. It’s a relief to know Dodo has never had a dog. He wouldn’t deserve that kind of love and devotion from any creature.

  19. How does Mike Johnson rectify his Christian faith with affording legal protections to child sex traffickers?

Self-flagellation? Or is that more JD’s thing?

(because JD’s Catholic is the joke 🥸)

  20. The former chief of staff to second gentleman Doug Emhoff announced Tuesday that she is running in 2026 to be the first Democrat to represent Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, a Republican stronghold based in Colorado Springs…

Jessica Killin, a 51-year-old Army veteran who was raised in Colorado Springs, is seeking to dislodge U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District. The 5th District, which Killin returned to in June, has been reliably Republican since it was created in the early 1970s. But Democrats believe it is trending toward becoming a battleground district.

Jessica Killin, Doug Emhoff’s former chief of staff, is running to flip Colorado Springs’ congressional district

The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone. These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!

  22. While you all are going bonkers about Epstein, Team Trump rolls on.

“What we need to do is examine the entire Federal Reserve institution and whether they have been successful,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a CNBC interview yesterday. “All these Ph.D.s over there, I don’t know what they do.”

Will the FED even exist next year?
BTW, that last line is pure Trump MAGA chow.

  24. An editorial remark from Jason Hancock, Editor-in-chief of the Missouri Independent.
I couldn’t find a link to it so I copied the whole thing. The Missouri Independent is a nonprofit news organization that covers local news in Missouri. The below is copied and pasted under their creative common license.
I think it gives a basic historical context to current events, or at least something to think about.

Donald Trump rose to power in 2016 as America was emerging from a failed war based on false intelligence and a financial crisis where everyday people suffered while those who upended the economy paid no price.

Trump was able to sell his supporters on the idea that everything they believed was happening in the halls of power was true — because he had personally seen it. Politicians and the “elites” were indeed selling Americans out and playing by a different set of rules. Trump vowed to pull back the curtain and expose the corruption.

The MAGA movement in many ways was built on that faulty premise, what comedian Dave Chappelle referred to as the “honest liar” who benefited from a rigged system and therefore must know how to unravel it.

The saga of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein fit perfectly into that narrative.

At its core, Epstein and his associates represent rich elites getting away with horrible things.

It didn’t seem to matter that Trump and Epstein were close friends for more than a decade, or that Trump has faced myriad allegations of sexual harassment and assault. MAGA was convinced Trump would unmask the politicians and celebrities who frequented the Epstein parties where he was allegedly sex trafficking minors.

The house of cards would come tumbling down, once Trump was back in the White House.

It became dogma in the MAGA movement as the president played footsie with conspiracies about Epstein’s 2019 death in prison and mused about releasing files related to the criminal investigation.

But that pitch to Trump voters — that the elites won’t get away with it anymore — fueled the backlash the president is now facing over his refusal to release the “Epstein files.”

  25. Late night tv was usually watched in bed. Do folks still have tv’s in their bedroom? We removed ours ten years ago. These days I fall asleep with the iPad.

  26. Mark Burnett’s third wife is heavily into professional Christian Touched By an Angel mode.

Roma Downey has been actively involved in producing and starring in numerous religious-themed movies and television series, often alongside her husband, Mark Burnett. She is particularly known for her work on projects related to the Bible and other faith-based narratives.
Here’s a breakdown of some of her notable works:
    Films:
Son of God: Downey served as executive producer and also appeared as Mother Mary in this film based on the miniseries “The Bible”.
Ben-Hur (2016): Downey and Burnett produced this remake of the classic story.
Little Boy: A film about a young boy’s faith and his relationship with his father, produced by Downey and Burnett.
Woodlawn: This movie explores faith and football in the 1970s.
Resurrection: A film focusing on the period after Jesus’ crucifixion, produced by Downey and Burnett.
On a Wing and a Prayer: A recent film, executive produced by Downey, about a man who faces a life-or-death situation during a flight and relies on his faith.
    Television:
Touched by an Angel: Downey gained fame for her leading role as Monica, an angel, in this long-running series.
The Bible (miniseries): Downey and Burnett produced this highly successful miniseries, with Downey portraying Mother Mary.
A.D. The Bible Continues: A sequel to “The Bible,” also produced by Downey and Burnett.
The Dovekeepers: A historical drama based on a novel, produced for CBS.
The Baxters: A family drama series based on Karen Kingsbury’s books, where Downey serves as executive producer and stars as Elizabeth Baxter.
Answered Prayers: A television series based on books by Karen Kingsbury.
Downey’s work often explores themes of faith, hope, and redemption, and she has frequently collaborated with her husband, Mark Burnett, on projects that aim to inspire and uplift audiences.

  27. lazy, hot summer day, It must be the end of July, not dry enough for August. This is the time of year that if you don’t get rain for 2 weeks you are in drought conditions, a little country/farmer wisdom.
If you haven’t been getting out in the heat so you have slowly built up your tolerance with cooler temps, you probably should stay indoors with the AC. If you are outside be sure to drink water, do so before you get thirsty. Make sure it is water, not some flavored beverage.
Saves a lot of medical bills if you stay hydrated.

  28. I think the Democrats should look at Texas as an opportunity. As they spread out the Republican votes to cover more districts the closer the vote will be, the easier it can be to flip Republican districts. So get to work Texas Democrats!

  29. i’m sure whatever pigtail-shaped districts TX rethuglicans draw will preclude any possibility of Dem electoral upsets

  30. Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary Prince of Darkness and one of heavy metal’s most iconic stars, has died. He was 76.

He died “surrounded by love,” his family said in a statement to The Post on Tuesday. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

News of Osbourne’s death comes more than five years after he announced his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in January 2020.

  31. Anon, you can pigtail all you want, at the end of the day it comes down to the numbers. As the number of Democrats and Republicans close in a district the easier it is to flip that district. Another thing is Texas has already reapportioned to hurt the Democrats as much as was feasible just 5 years ago. What was easy has been done, any new changes will come at a risk.

  32. i don’t think TX rethugs are deliberately fucking themselves, good Sir

  33. Ozzy was a good one. His ilk doesn’t come along often and I hate to see him gone.

Like thousands of kid guitarists, Crazy Train was the first sho’ nuff rock song LP mastered, with Mr. Crowley close behind. He worshipped Randy Rhoades as The One for a while before he added the likes of Gilbert, Satriani, Petrucci and Vai to his idol list. Those were the days…

  34. Well, today was a different day on the tour, Montpellier to Mont Ventoux, a.k.a. The Giant of Provence. Flat as a flitter for the first 133km then a fairly gradual 22km of climbing to the base of MV, then an HC climb for 15 km to the summit to Mont Ventoux. Appropriate for Provence , the intermediate sprint was at Châteauneuf-de-Pape. Of course as on all flat stages there was a breakaway (of 35 riders) that had about 6′ on the peloton at the base of MV, but by the time the two race leaders who were jockeying for the win (Pogacar and Vinegaard) got to the top in 5th and 6th positions respectively, they had made up all but 43″ on Valentin Paret-Peintre, who won the stage.
Pogacar is still in the yellow jersey, 4’15” ahead of Vingegaard, with Lipowitz just under 5 minutes behind Vingegaard. Pogacar also took back the Polka Dot jersey.

Tomorrow is a flat stage, followed by a brutal mountain stage Thursday with 3 HC climbs, followed by a 2nd mountain stage Friday with 2 HCs, 2 2s and a 1. Saturday the men descend from the Alps and have a leisurely ride to the Champs-Elysees Sunday to wrap it up.

I hope there’s coverage of the final stage so they can rehash the previous 20 stages while the Peloton lollygags into Paris for its laps around the Champs-Elysees.

  35. Craig,

We were discussing the timeline on Maxwell’s trial. This is the answer.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial commenced with opening statements on November 29, 2021.

NEW YORK (AP) — From the moment he first faced criminal charges, in 2006, Jeffrey Epstein has been the object of public fascination, conspiracy theories and outrage — especially after his lawyers got prosecutors to agree to a lenient plea deal that spared him from serious prison time.

Epstein was eventually arrested again, but died by suicide while awaiting trial in 2019. Here is a timeline of the case against him and his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for helping him abuse teenage girls.

  36. Thanks jamie, so that does show that Biden admin couldn’t release records from a pending case. For that matter, as Carolyn pointed out, the Trump WH could say that — maybe they haven’t thought of it?

The outspoken co-founder of Return to the Land, a relatively new whites-only group based in northern Arkansas, said the group could be expanding to the Springfield, Missouri, area.

According to RTTL’s website, RTTL is a private member association exclusively made for white people. Jewish people are also barred from membership. Members are vetted through an application process based on European ancestry.

The group’s homebase land association is based on 160 acres in northern Arkansas and has been in development since 2023. Orwoll said the draw to northern Arkansas was its “affordable land, natural beauty, abundant water resources and a conservative, predominantly white population.”

“The attorneys we’ve consulted believe what we’re doing is legal,” Orwoll said. “Americans have the right to freely associate and form intentional communities on whatever basis they choose.”

Orwoll said he hopes to help found RTTL communities in all 50 states.

US announces its withdrawal from UNESCO
The US State Department announced in a statement on Tuesday that the country will leave the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in December 2026.

After months of uncertainty and unfounded hopes, the decision has been made: The United States will leave the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in December 2026. “Continued involvement in UNESCO is not in the national interest of the United States,” the State Department said in a brief statement issued on Tuesday, July 22. “UNESCO works to advance divisive social and cultural causes and maintains an outsized focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, a globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy.”

This departure carries financial consequences. The United States − as the largest contributor to the UN agency dedicated to education, science and culture − had been providing $75 million annually, which constituted about 8% of its $900 million budget. In anticipation of the US withdrawal, UNESCO had exercised caution in recent months by setting aside the US contribution for this year and reducing programs to prevent a funding shortfall. At this time, there are no planned layoffs…

    did some googling
That back to the land, white only group is in Northeast Arkansas. Pick about the worst land you could own in that county and they bought it. Boy did someone see them coming. They organized in 2023 and they are already wanting to move. Don’t blame them, land that won’t grow anything in an area where there is little work, Oh and Trump cut any government help too. Those poor idiots got screwed all the way around. But if they weren’t idiots, they wouldn’t be what they are.
If they are moving up in this world they are probably moving up to Booger county, Not it’s official name, just what locals in the surrounding counties call it. They sound like they might fit right in. A lot the county is part of the Mark Twain national forest. Maybe they are hoping for some of that free federal land Trump keeps talking about.
