  2. https://thehill. Trump to meet Putin in Alaska, discuss ‘swapping of territories’ between Russia, Ukraine

President Trump on Friday said he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a week in Alaska and that swapping territories will be discussed in potential peace talks between the Kremlin and Ukraine.

“I think we’re getting very close, and we’re going to be announcing later on — we’re going to have a meeting with Russia, start off with Russia,” Trump said at the White House on Friday. “And we’ll announce the location; I think the location will be a very popular one for a lot of reasons. But we’ll be announcing that a little bit later; I just don’t want to do it now because of the importance of what we just did.”

don’t be surprised if it’s the Aleutian Islands he’s thinking about swapping.. maybe for a golf course in Sochi and hotels in moscow and st.pete. oh yeah, he’ll also throw in Kyiv and Crimea for sweeteners.

  3. Hmm, why Alaska? puttie has an appointment for a trial as a real bad person. Krasnov wants his master to see how good he is doing, in person, and for some reason is not traveling to KGB headquarters. Russia is just past Caribou Barbie porch. Solution – let criminal from russia hop over the border and meet criminal from USA in former russia territory.

I stand with Ukraine, not one millimeter given away.

  4. From The Hill article Pat cited: “we’re getting close … we’re going to be announcing … later on we’re going to”

Yet another textbook blend of future–present blur and performative inevitability. He talks about an imagined outcome as if it’s already unfolding, to give it a sense of momentum and inevitability. Governing, just like the rest of his life, is nothing but a real estate brochure.

  5. Putin Tells U.S. He’ll Halt War in Exchange for Eastern Ukraine — WSJ

So again he demands territory he doesn’t occupy — for nothing more than a ceasefire??? And our dumbass president takes it seriously.

  6. Taco Don gave Russia the old “two weeks” treatment for a ceasefire, then he gave them another two weeks. Just to mix things up, he then gave Russia 50 days, and then he gave another ten 10 days. And, so it goes.

I had wondered if the soccer ball Putin gave tRUMPsky was stuffed with instructions or cash, but now I think it was just a symbolic reminder that Putin has his other ball in the form of bad stuff on video.

Although the news says Medvedev didn’t post that threat to Krasnov about Mossad not being the only entity who had Orange’s atrocities on tape (in response to the nuclear subs, which got very little attention), I wonder if Russia did post.

BB-Couldn’t Russia spoof something as originating in Ukraine? And, if that’s your drawing of Z kicking that Russian prick off of a ledge, good job.

  7. giving Putie eastern ukraine would mess with the rare earth deal US has in that region, wouldn’t it?

  8. As much as Adolf wants the peace prize, I think he would rather let Putin take Ukraine, Poland, and anything else he wants, as long as he can stay in power and out of jail.

He is guilding his presidential palace because he is never planning on leaving.

Why doesn’t the ICC have a warrant out for Adolf kidnapping humans and trafficking them to a foreign torture prison? They could pick up two war criminals at once?

  9. messing with the census by not counting the undocumented would affect the number of congressional seats for certain states.
according to https://www.newsweek.com/ back in January:

California and Texas remained the leading states for undocumented immigrant populations in 2022, accounting for 42 percent of the 10.99 million U.S. total, a Newsweek map shows.
California had 2.6 million unauthorized immigrants, while Texas had 2.1 million.
    […]
The next largest populations were in Florida, New Jersey, Illinois and New York, with 590,000, 490,000, 420,000, and 410,000 unauthorized immigrants, respectively. The 10 leading states combined represented 72 percent of the total unauthorized immigrant population.
Newsweek’s map showing the top 10 states where undocumented immigrants are living draws on data from the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
    […]
Other states in the top 10 included North Carolina (360,000), Georgia (340,000), Washington (340,000), and Arizona (290,000). These states showed varying trends, with some experiencing small increases while others saw minor declines.

  10. Craig,

Yes, they did. As I said, the census is supposed to count EVERYBODY in residence in the country usually in April of the census year. Their status of legal or illegal has no bearing. Over the years, various questions have been changed such as education, occupation, birth country etc. but never the FACT of residency.

  11. but was that really a final decision?

Supreme Court Punts Census Case, Giving Trump An Iffy Chance To Alter Numbers
    December 18, 2020

The U.S. Supreme Court ducked a direct ruling Friday on whether President Trump can exclude undocumented immigrants from a key census count.

At issue in the case was Trump’s July memorandum ordering the U.S. Census Bureau for the first time to exclude undocumented immigrants from the decennial census for purposes of reapportionment. The count is used to determine how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives and the Electoral College.

In an unsigned opinion, the court said it would be “premature” to rule on the case right now because it is “riddled with contingencies and speculation” and even the Trump administration doesn’t know how many undocumented immigrants there are or where they live.

  12. The most recent census available to genealogists is 1950 when the following was asked. It did include a citizenship question, but the person was counted.
    Address
Whether the house is on a farm or ranch
Whether the house is on a place of three or more acres
    Serial number of dwelling unit
    Name
    Relationship to head of household
    Race
    Sex
    Age
Marital status (single, married, widowed, divorced)
    Birthplace (State or country)
    If foreign born, whether naturalized
    Employment status
Hours worked in the last week
    Occupation
    Industry
Class of worker (private, government, own business, or working without pay)
Indian Reservation Schedules were used to collect additional information on reservations.

  13. We basically have no Congress or functioning State governments. Just a rubber stamp pad with Dodo wielding the stamp.

  14. Just as an aside, there are often errors or even outright lies on the census. The census taker often has to guess at answers depending on who in the household answered, if done in person or by mail, or even just neighbors being helpful.
In 1950 my father’s birthplace is Scotland and naturalized on the citizenship question.
His occupation given is accountant, but he was also still active military while teaching at the business college.

  15. bId – not my drawing. Those are florks. I know only a couple people who can draw those. They are used a lot in the NAFO fella world.

It is difficult to do anything in and around Ukraine that is not being watched by satellites and electronics.

These florks are rewarding a fish with honorary Ukraine military cap for killing russians a couple years ago. These are non-combat things that do in russians.

  19. Supposedly being done with “private funds” but we know it’s our taxed funds that he diverted into his toadies pockets.

  20. Craig, I truly don’t understand what my maggers think they voted for or how they continue to justify these excesses at their own personal detriment and risk. The “joke” is on them.

  21. The colonial founders made the same failure that the republican Romans did…..they set up a method of governance designed to work well when run by honorable men. When dishonorable men become able to buy their way into positions of power, a tyrant arises and the honorable system collapses.

They seem to have been unable to have designed a facet of governance which is able to thwart the ambitions of gaggles of greedy dishonorable men in possession of unlimited amounts money.

“I’d rather rule in hell than serve in heaven,” he is said to have said.

Franklin knew they had not addressed this.

Lammy and Vance to hold meeting to discuss US-brokered Ukraine peace plan
Ukrainian and European partners to join UK foreign secretary and US vice-president at Chevening for talks

The UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, and the US vice-president, JD Vance, will hold a meeting with Ukrainian and European partners in Britain on Saturday to discuss the drive for peace in Ukraine, a Downing Street spokesperson has said.
    […]
The Guardian understands that the UK meeting will take place this evening in Chevening, Kent, and is being held at the request of the US. The summit will discuss the next steps on the US-brokered push for an end to the war and how Ukraine’s partners can support the effort.

It follows a phone call between the UK prime minister, Keir Starmer, and Zelenskyy on Saturday morning. A No 10 spokesperson said: “Both leaders welcomed president Trump’s desire to bring this barbaric war to an end and agreed that we must keep up the pressure on Putin to end his illegal war.” The statement added that Starmer had reiterated “his unwavering support for Ukraine and its people” during the call.

Zelenskyy communicated with both Trump and European leaders in recent days as news broke that the US leader and Putin were planning to meet. On Friday Poland’s prime minister, Donald Tusk, said there could be a “freeze” in the conflict.

  24. BB: my paternal grandmother’s family was supposedly Swedish but may have been Finns. Many Swedes/Finns emigrated to Delaware where their cultural influence remains strong.

One of the most well-known facts about the Delaware Valley Finns is that they originated the log cabin in the United States. These cabins became the basis for forts and towns and homes all over this country. They were very instrumental in helping to expand the population to every area of the U.S.

  25. The information in the census is often the only way to reliably track ancestors which is why genealogists get up in arms when anyone wants to mess with it. When anything is lost such as the burned 1890 which only has fragments, it is a major tragedy.

  26. My guess is Trump’s census chatter is aimed at overturning Democratic midterm gains on the grounds that the election was rigged by census manipulation. Sometimes when he says stuff like not counting non-citizens he knows it can’t happen, he’s just conditioning MAGAts to believe another big lie.

  27. is the census motivation that mysterious?

The cons think Democrats are overrepresented in blue state cities, and they believe a new census would reflect that

They might be underestimating how impactful immigrant communities actually are in rural/exurban communities

It would be delightfully ironic if they lost seats due to their efforts, but they control everything anyway and can rig it any way they like. who will stop them? you (dear reader)?

The single mother and her son were taken at the border on their way home to Everett after dropping their two eldest children at the Vancouver, B.C. airport for a flight.

They have been detained out of state and far away from their family and support system and are now confined in “horrible conditions” in South Texas at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center.

The meager commissary she has been given in detention has been used to purchase basic necessities for her son, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and some coloring pencils and an ice cream.

ICE now has a larger budget than the federal prison system and many militaries around the world thanks to the “big beautiful bill” passed by anti-worker extremists in Congress on July 4.

  32. Leaked DHS Memo Shows Trump Administration Wants to Deploy Military on City Streets to Hunt Down Immigrants

A leaked Department of Homeland Security internal memo obtained by The New Republic shows the Trump administration is pushing for a massive deployment of military troops for domestic law enforement targeting immigrants in America’s largest cities.

The memo was written by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s younger brother Phil, a senior adviser to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and DHS liaison officer to the Defense Department.

This Homeland security memo is actually a manifestation of Project 2025’s telegraphed takeover plans for our military, starting with a decapitation of leadership and an outlined witch hunt to root out leadership who would put their allegiance to the constitution over Trump and the MAGA agenda.

The number of problems with this thinking are too numerous for one essay; suffice it to say, it threatens the very core of military readiness world-wide, and undermines the only oath of military service, to defend the Constitution.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Mark Milley, told us that Trump is a Fascist to the core. Senator, and POW, John McCain, told us that the president of the United States went to Helsinki and abased himself in front of a tyrant.

It is too early to tell if our current Chairman, General Dan Caine, will have the same sense of duty to the Constitution to prevent the mission creep that has already started: National Guard and Marines deployed to Los Angeles, a judge in Wisconsin arrested, the mayor of Newark arrested, members of Congress arrested, a four-year-old with stage-four-cancer deported, and last week, Afghan interpreters, who served alongside our military in combat, arrested and facing deportation to certain torture and probably murder.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that any US military presence Mexican soil to combat drug cartels was “absolutely off the table,” in response to a New York Times report that US President Donald Trump had signed a Pentagon directive initiating the use of military force against drug trafficking organizations.

“We cooperate, we collaborate, but there will be no invasion,” Sheinbaum said. Earlier this year, Trump ordered that certain cartels — including five Mexican syndicates — be designated as foreign terrorist organizations, raising the specter of unilateral US intervention in Latin America.

On Thursday, the US doubled its bounty for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s arrest to $50 million — a gesture that critics described as largely symbolic.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is scrambling to save his country’s relationship with Mexico after it disintegrated late last year when Canadian officials suggested they’d be better off negotiating a trade deal with the Trump administration alone.

Canada finds itself on the back foot with Trump while Mexico is reveling in its relative success. Last week, Trump gave Mexico a 90-day pause on new tariffs going into effect, keeping the rate at 25%, while raising tariffs on Canada to 35%.

“Mexico knows very well that if we try to go head-to-head, toe-to-toe with Washington the asymmetry in the negotiations is going to favor the U.S,” said former Mexican trade negotiator Juan Carlos Baker. “It’s always better to have a three-player game.”

  35. https://www.foxbusiness.com/fox-news-global-economy/canada-slashes-tens-thousands-jobs-sharp-economic-shift-amid-trumps-tariffs

Canada shed tens of thousands of jobs in July, dragging the country’s employment rate to its lowest point in eight months as U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs rippled through key industries.

The labor market’s reversal came just weeks after a surge in hiring. Statistics Canada data, cited by Reuters, showed the economy created 83,000 jobs in June but lost 40,800 in July, erasing nearly half of that gain.

Switzerland says tariff talks with US continue, gold industry concerned about bullion trade

ZURICH, Aug 8 (Reuters) – Switzerland is continuing discussions with the United States about reducing potentially crippling import duties, its government said on Friday, as the country’s gold industry warned exports of gold bars to the U.S. could be severely impacted by a 39% tariff.

The tariff talks in Washington are being led by Helene Budliger Artieda, head of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and come after the import levy – among the highest of any applied under President Donald Trump’s global trade reset – took effect on Thursday.

Gold bars of 1 kg and 100 oz were previously exempt from U.S. tariffs, but country-specific tariffs may now apply.

Switzerland is the world’s largest gold refining centre, with up to 70% of gold produced annually worldwide melted down and processed at the five refineries in the country.

The country imports gold bars and resizes them for the U.S. market. Switzerland exported gold bars worth 7.86 billion Swiss francs ($9.7 billion) to the U.S. last year, according to customs data.

  37. https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/08/politics/smithsonian-trump-impeachment-exhibit

As CNN previously reported, the museum last month removed a temporary placard referencing Trump’s two impeachments from the exhibit, which described and contained artifacts related to the impeachments of presidents Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson and the impeachment process against Richard Nixon.

The removal of the placard prompted public outcry against the museum and claims it was capitulating to Trump. The president earlier this year signed an executive order accusing the museum of promoting a “divisive” ideology and directing it to make changes to its programming.

In follow-up statements, the museum system insisted the placard’s removal was temporary and denied it had been pressured by any government official to make changes to its exhibits.

The exhibit now is set up in a way that places information about Trump’s two impeachments in a lower spot than they had been previously.

A more subtle placard about Trump’s two impeachments now rests near the bottom of the exhibit, along with admittance tickets to Senate impeachment proceedings.

  38. Are all things “American” going to go out of style?
