Lester Holt (Kenan Thompson) moderates the Republican candidates (Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim, Molly Kearney, Devon Walker, John Higgins) during a debate before Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) interrupts.

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week’s biggest news, like Vivek Ramaswamy calling the GOP a “party of losers” and Ohio becoming the 24th state to legalize marijuana.
road signs in critterville:
caution – closures and detours ahead
congress critters at work (well, no, forgot it’s the weekend and they don’t show up until tuesday and maybe not even then)

Sorry to interrupt Jack’s fine string serenity this morning but I’m serious: VP Carlson?
Yahoo: Ultimate Fighting Championship Crowd Erupts As Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, & Kid Rock Show Up Ringside
I might have inadvertently predicted an SNL cold open joke.

That sounds to me like a very confused person. It’s like she realized about halfway through that she had to change something or she would be quoting Will Smith. She lost some points with that one.
Yahoo Ultimate Fighting Championship?
Yeah, that’s right up their alley.
3 Dorks at a Great Dorkfest. .
Ratings right below “Loser Batshit Crazy Housewives of Northwest Georgia”.
No new voters to be gained here.
Tucker as VP?
That would be too cool for fools
The russkies must approve since they run Tucker’s Crappy Talk show all the time.
OMG, she’s fantastic. And beautiful.

Cold Open left us cold. Can’t stand that ugly mug even when it’s fake.
Let the voters decide: Democracy vs. Autocracy
Associated Press: “Donald Trump is already laying a sweeping set of policy goals should he win a second term as president. Trump’s campaign and allied groups are assembling policy books with detailed plans. Trump’s plans would represent a dramatic government overhaul”
— Trump would try to strip tens of thousands of career employees of their civil service protections. That way, they could be fired as he seeks to “totally obliterate the deep state”
— He would immediately direct U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to undertake the largest domestic deportation operation in American history, setting up processing camps for immigrant families who have lived here for decades.
— Institute a system of tariffs on most foreign goods, phasing out all imports from China of essential goods, including electronics, steel and pharmaceuticals.
— Stop the “endless flow of American treasure to Ukraine” and demand European allies reimburse the U.S. for the cost of rebuilding stockpiles.
— Pass a bill establishing that “only two genders,” as determined at birth, are recognized by the United States.
— Ramp up oil drilling on public lands and offer tax breaks to oil, gas, and coal producers.
— Terminate the Department of Education, but exert enormous influence over local school districts and colleges, such as abolishing teacher tenure, requiring direct election of school principals by parents, cut funding for any school that has a vaccine or mask mandate, and promote “patriotic education” to “teach students to love their country, not to hate their country like they’re taught right now”.
— Force the homeless off city streets by building tent cities on large open parcels of inexpensive or public land.
— Send the National Guard to cities that are struggling with violence. Require controversial policing measures such as stop-and-frisk, and empower police to shoot suspected shoplifters in the act. “Very simply, if you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store”. Impose death penalty for drug smugglers and those who traffic women and children. He promises a federal takeover of the nation’s capital, calling Washington a “dirty, crime-ridden death trap” unbefitting of the country.

So far the only people who haven’t fired Carlson are the Russians.
Just another beautiful day in Hell
Another Sturg classic:
pogo, congrats on ‘bama win. at least ky wasn’t skunked. they just smelled a little.
trump looks old
This isn’t on you, Mr. C, but that headline was produced by this new trash rightwing clickbait media company founded by some TMZ (celebrity clickbait gossip site) alum. “TheBlast” media. Be wary of everything they post
so does his dad.
Not all were adulating
I had to google “Ultimate Fighting Championship ” Didn’t know what it was and didn’t recognize any of the champions either. Which made me realize I didn’t know who was the heavy weight boxing champ (champs?) either. So I google for that too. And guess what I didn’t recognize any names there either.
I have to wonder how many American voters would be equally clueless.
Jack
A significant portion of Americans get their news “around the water cooler” from the guy in the office that cares more about the news than them and is willing to start that conversation, and “that guy” is usually a right-winger high on foxnews
That’s why your off-internet, conversational voice is so important, and why we can’t let the righties dominate those spaces, so the next time they start that, i suggest you consider saying something like, “Hey, that’s cool, did you hear Biden got a bunch of hostages released and is trying to negotiate a ceasefire” or whatever the buzzy topic is that day
(i promise the by the third time you have to correct their misinformation in one conversation, they’ll tap-out like a UFC wanna-be, they do every time)
Ok, out to stress-test this vaccine 🙏 ✌️ 🇺🇸
Several years ago Bink put together this playlist of Bluegrass, I book marked the comment/post and listen to it frequently, am doing so now. By using the post on this blog to access it rather than going through youtube gets it commercial free. While I wouldn’t mind commercials, youtube commercials are really nasty and interrupts the vibe the music creates. You would think they would put their AI to work to fix that.
Thanks Bink.
Jack
I used a cheap promo to subscribe to the LA Times, I’ve been enjoying getting a California pov on world and regional events.
My local news paper is owned by the USA Today folks so we get a couple of local news stories, an obvious piece done by the marketing department praising some local business. Then a lot of USA Today filler.
Jack
Speaking of Bink and playlists he created…..This is a the playlist he made consisting of the recording artists our band opened for and in many cases played for in 1966-1967 at the seaside pavilion club. Thanks, Bink.
I only missed one group……one of the best of them all.
While perusing Jack-Bink’s bluegrass link I saw a name I’d forgotten…..Tiptoe
There is certainly something off about Mein Dumkopf’s hairdo. That’s what happens when you get to the last dribbles in the can of hairspray.
Ivy
Or you forgot to pay your stylist last month and are having to do it yourself in the car.
Jack
Jack, breathing fumes from spraying hairspray in the car is deadly. 🤣
Does Secret Service do hair?
Jack – LA Times is not the same as NY Times! Due to a strange life I had the pleasure of reading both papers, for several years, in their home lair. That habit continues. The LA Times did not have the great return the NY Times did as far right idiots did not attack it. A few years ago the owner fired a lot of the news reporters and editorial staff.
In spite of all that it is a great coverage of Southern California and LA. I think I am seeing more coverage of East Coast stuff, but nothing like in the past. Back in the 1990’s LA Times was one of the papers trying out different online programs. They were years ahead of technology, software and hardware. The Denver Rocky Mountain News was doing the same.
I also have subscribed to the San Francisco Chronicle. Not worth the price. I only have it due to some lingering like of my time in SanFran. I plan on dropping it next year.
