Sunday Serendipity

In a Summer Garden by Frederick Delius

And yeah, that is what my sun garden looks and feels like. Butterflys, bees, a little wind, a few birds. The only thing he left out was my cussing and sweating as I pull the crab grass. He probably hired gardeners to pull weeds, so he couldn’t appreciate that aspect of a summer garden.

Enjoy, Jack

  1. thanks, jack.  have to do weed pulling right after it rains otherwise the heavy clay soil here has turned to sun-baked brick.  pick-axes even have a hard time of it.

  2. weeds? song about the other kind whether plant, animal or architecture.

remembering melvina reynolds singing what became the theme song for the TV series “weeds”

White with daisies and red with sorrel
And empty, empty under the sky!—
Life is a quest and love a quarrel—
Here is a place for me to lie.

    Daisies spring from damnèd seeds,
And this red fire that here I see
Is a worthless crop of crimson weeds,
       Cursed by farmers thriftily.

But here, unhated for an hour,
The sorrel runs in ragged flame,
The daisy stands, a bastard flower,
Like flowers that bear an honest name.

And here a while, where no wind brings
The baying of a pack athirst,
May sleep the sleep of blessèd things,
The blood too bright, the brow accurst.

  4. there’s also Tennyson’s “the Flower”  that starts off

I cast to earth a seed.
    Up there came a flower,
    The people said, a weed.
    To and fro they went
    Thro’ my  bower,
    And muttering
    Cursed me and my flower.

  5. Georgia judge in Trump case faces reelection next year in one of the most reliably Democratic counties in the entire nation. It has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1876. He was appointed by the Republican governor two years ago, so voters will likely be on the lookout for pro-Trump bias.

  6. if Trump is concerned about the location of the trials he should have committed the crimes in friendlier areas

  7. My garden has that raggedy August charm, monarchs sighted 👍

An ear of my corn got a fungal infection known among farmers as “corn smut” but regarded by Central Americans as a delicacy called (and i gotta look this up) “huitlacoche”.

  8. https://www.livemint.com/science/russias-luna-25-crashed-with-moons-surface-lunar-probe-s-final-moments-11692545525600.html

“Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft crashed into the Moon on Sunday, leaving the race to first land at the unchartered south pole which the scientists believe contains important reserves of frozen water and precious elements.”

“ Luna-25, according to Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, spun into an uncontrolled orbit before crashing into the Moon’s surface.”

“India’s Chandrayaan-3 will also be attempting a landing on the south pole on August 23-24, paving the way for it to be the first to land on an unchartered territory of the Moon.”

  9. The hardest action to a spacecraft, after launch, is preparing it to orbit or land.  You are blowing panels and bolts off that hold things in place. The shaking and jolts are happening as power is moving things out or in.  That is how parts fail that were not correctly soldered or had lost something in space, degassing. Things jam because no matter how well it is tested on Earth, the lack of gravity causing all sorts of havoc, typically seen on solar panels rolling or unfolding out.  It is also when you have activated different computers from the flight operations so stuff can go wrong.

So the russians plopped it on the Moon.  Happens to everybody. India had theirs fail recently.  But it could not have happened to a more deserving dictator.  Guess some more people will drink the tea or find falling out of windows a new career path, just like the bird that buried itself in the Moon South Pole.

  10. my theory on why meadows wants his GA indictment moved from state to fed court:

he’s possibly working on a deal with jack smith planning to plea to a lesser federal crime in both cases so he can escape that mandatory 5 year minimum sentence in the state RICO law.   as someone recently noted fed prison for white collar criminals is pretty cushy compared to even a day in Georgia prison system.

  11. excerpt from jeff darcy’s cartoon editorial in cleveland paper:

    […]
Now all Trump wants is just 1 acquittal, his, if not 18 others for his codefendants. A jury needs to find only 2 elements of any RICO charge are true to find someone guilty of it. The minimum sentence is 5 years in prison, with some prosecutors granting probation.
Mark Meadows lawyers have already filed paperwork asking for his case be moved to federal court, claiming he was only carrying out his duties as Trump’s Chief of Staff. However to have a case moved to federal court the person must show they were performing a federal function that excludes any campaign work, which is exactly what all the charges against Meadows involve.
The perceived pluses of having a case moved to federal court, is that it won’t be televised like the state trial will be, and a larger jury pool. Defendants have 30 days to request the move. Trump is also expected to do so, but in keeping with his defense strategy to delay, will likely wait till the deadline.

  12. There will soon be a grande opening of the “flipper” floodgates…..they’ll be racing, scratching, and clawing one another to trv and make the exits.   It’s going to be a rout, a huge one, and the big plane’ll be looking for a nice fat gold escalator in Desert Land.

  13. We don’t have an extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia or Russia, but what good is SFB to them if he’s forever out of power?

Does he take the family with him or do they try to gain control if the US?   If Cokey Junior or one of the others stays behind, SFB would still be a link to them…although, he would be redundant.  MIDDLE MANagement is always the first to go.

  14. Office Pool:  Who will be the first family member to be knocked off the curb in front of the oncoming bus?

  15. Orange Adolf, himself.   Once he he’s convicted if racketeering charges in Georgia, Junior and his gargoyle, Ivanker and JarJar, and Irk and Liara will all try to take his place.   They didn’t really know him.

  16. BB, yes it’s a happy smile and here it is in motion along with planes in the air and a lot of talking heads pontificating.

The Netherlands and Denmark have agreed to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine to boost its counteroffensive against Russia. President Zelenskyy met the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The two leaders posed in the cockpit of an F-16. Denmark says it hopes to provide six fighter jets. Earlier in the day, he met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte who said his country will deliver the aircraft once the conditions are right. It’s not clear how many will come from the Netherlands. Ukraine has long been asking its western allies for the US-made fighter jet. Zelenskyy says the aircraft will provide a combat edge to drive back the Russian invasion.

  17. one man’s trash is another’s treasure, we’re talking about the country that rolled-out the red carpet for Steven Seagal and gave him a medal 😜
