  1. jack, thank you. lovely choice for what’s predicted to be a lovely in the low 80’s sunday.

from wiki a tidbit about the piece:

Rodrigo composed the concerto in 1954 at the request of guitarist Andrés Segovia, who was evidently the gentilhombre referenced in the title. Segovia took the solo part at the premiere performance on March 5, 1958, in San Francisco.

  2. Senate infrastructure talks spill over into rare Sunday session | TheHill

The bipartisan group had hoped to unveil legislation on Saturday, and the Senate convened at 11 a.m. and sat on standby for more than 10 hours as behind-the-scenes negotiations continued.
Instead, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced late Saturday night that the bill won’t be ready until Sunday. The Senate is set to reconvene at noon.
    […]
The Senate had hoped to start voting on potential changes to the bill on Sunday. No votes have currently been scheduled, but senators had previously warned that if the release of the legislative text slipped past Saturday that could potentially push the first votes into Monday.
The push to unveil the bipartisan bill comes as Schumer has pledged that he will hold a vote on the legislation before the Senate leaves for a week-long summer break. He also plans to hold a vote before the break on a budget resolution that includes the directions for drafting a separate $3.5 trillion bill that Democrats can pass without GOP support.
That break had been scheduled to start on Aug. 9, but the Senate is expected to lose the first week of its summer recess.
“As a reminder, upon completion of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the Senate will turn to the budget resolution with reconciliation instructions,” Schumer said on Saturday night.

  3. pogo, a ‘toon & tune for you probably 🎵 wishing you weren’t in the land of covid, looked away looked away dixieland  🎵

  4. Yes, patd, as much as I love seeing family and friends, I must admit I’d rather not be in the center of the storm.

The credit goes to Kansas Public radio and the youtube algo.
I was trying to get my radio station list better organized and our local public radio group had acquired a local station and turned it into a classical music station. So I went searching for the station.  It must have been good weather because the little public radio station out of Pittsburg KS was coming through loud and clear.  They were well enough organized to have their playlist. So when this piece came on and it was a perfect Sunday piece all I had to do was make a note of it.  Remembering to get the note into the house took 2 or 3 weeks…..
As to finding the young lady. It was the youtube algo. I was going to go with another guitarist but reluctantly, as I wasn’t satisfied with the quality of the recording. Then the youtube algo gave me this young lady and it blew the other one away both in regard to quality of recording and the talent of the guitarist.

  6. As I’ve had to dig out my masks and start wearing them, I’m starting to get seriously pissed at the numb nuts that are refusing to get vaccinated.
I got kicked off of twitter last week when one of them proudly used the 99% survival rate nonsense.
I replied “if we lined you and 99 other people up  and picked one at random to shoot in the head, you would patiently wait, right?”
Twitter decided that was a threat. Twitter is not very smart. Which may help explain the level of our political discourse.

  7. Mask update – Red Cross disaster teams are now back to wearing masks when going out.  D.C. NBC station has gone back to two anchors separated to the ends of the reading table and I think the weather person doing the spot from home.
Yesterday I was in Baltimore and almost all tourists were san face covering.  Last week I was in the middle of nowhere red (deep red) Virginia and most people wear masks when out, some even in their vehicles.

  8. At Lake Powell on the Arizona-Utah border, the water line has dropped to a historic low, taking a heavy toll on the local industry

    Thu 29 Jul 2021 06.00 EDT

Chaos erupted at Bill West’s business in Page, Arizona, last week when he was forced to tell dozens of paid clients their summer vacations were either canceled or on hold – effective immediately.

West, the owner of a houseboat timeshare company, was scrambling after record-low water levels at Lake Powell – one of the most popular motorized boating destinations in the US – disrupted recreational and tourism activities throughout the region.
The National Park Service abruptly announced earlier this month that houseboats could no longer use the Wahweap Launch Ramp, the busiest boat launch site in the area. Boats already cast out into the water were warned they had less than a week to return to land, or risk getting marooned.
West sat in traffic for more than an hour last Friday trying to corral 30 of his houseboat timeshares from the 180-mile-long reservoir before the final deadline. Dozens of vehicles stretched for at least a mile waiting for their turn on a concrete ramp that no longer reached the water. Even four-wheel-drive trucks were getting stuck in the mud as the Lake Powell shoreline retreated faster than federal water managers expected.
    ———————————————–
Out of seven public boat launch ramps at Lake Powell, only Bullfrog in southern Utah – a five-hour drive from Wahweap – remains reliably functional due to a series of recent ramp extensions. But that too may soon become inaccessible. The Bureau of Reclamation predicts there is a 79% chance Lake Powell will drop another 29ft from the current historic low “sometime next year”.
According to a National Park Service report, Glen Canyon had 4.4 million visitors in 2019, making it one of the most visited parks in the country. The visitors spent $427m in Page and the surrounding area and supported 5,243 jobs, including providing a vital source of employment for the nearby Navajo Nation.

  9. A 100,000 acres of land has been exposed at Lake Powell .
One of the great views in America is from the “chicken coop” at Page, AZ.
I saw it twice two decades ago.  Hard to get my head around all this.

  10. It’s not as if the excess millions of people living in a desert able to support the needs of thousands didn’t keep slurping it up as if it were inexhaustible.

“In June, more than 200 activists were arrested attempting to block access to a pumping station at the site. Houska herself was arrested in March on trespassing charges with six other activists after they erected and sat in a waaginogaaning, a traditional domed structure used for prayer, on the site.“

Last week, and elderly woman handcuffed herself to the pumping site. A police officer tried to remove her by putting his thumb on her carotid artery.

  12. Today is the 45th  anniversary of my world getting flushed down the Big Thompson River, along with tens of thousands of others.
Yesterday we were doing the Colorado Centennial, and the  US Bicentennial, making money hand over fist .
Today I woke up to a ten grand note at the Estes Park Bank , and not a single customer until the end of November.
By then,  they had cut their way down the canyon , and were hauling  cars  out of the canyon  by the truck load  several loads a day.
The really crazy thing about them , the paint was all gone, the tires were all gone, and they were so shredded , you could not tell if you were looking a Chevy pick-up, or a Lincoln Towne Car.
It was all rusted steel that looked like it was “automotive”.
There was no FEMA in 1976.

  13. The wing nuts think they will make a come back next year ,  they need to  understand  Delta is killing their voters.
As footnote , when New York was under attack  last year ,  Don Jr. was calling the virus  a “Blue State” problem.

  14. I heard a talking head say what I brought up last week , if you don’t get a shot your health insurance is going up . Just like smoking .
The ice dam has broken trust me the insurance companies  are about to turn the screws.  Once the FDA get’s off it’s ass, and removes it’s emergency status , they will pile in along with a lot of other big players.

  15. MAGA –
    MAMA
    Make American Mean Again
    MASA
    Make America Suffer Again

What they fail to understand is they have chosen the Anti-Christ as their leader.  Shave his  head there are 3 sixes on his scalp .
Like the “Birther” movement , I demand Trump shave his head to prove there are not 3 sixes on this head.

  16. One twiterer’s take.
Opus Dei/Dominionists wanted the Oval Office. Like for the other 2 Factions, trumpf was an avenue. When they realized that he really did lose the Election, the script changed and Barr bailed, Pence stayed and made sure trumpf couldn’t keep it. The Mob pulled out awhile ago
the 3rd has been left holding the bag and that would be the Koch/Mercers/Devos Faction.
trumpf is On his own at this point. Now when thinking of FSB (the 3 stooges) F and S are Koch, Bannon, Opus Dei. They All used the Mob

  17. Some guy:
I’m very curious to learn, what really happened, what Pence knew about the secret services plan, to get him out of there. Something is there. There was a plan between TFG and DD to get him from certifying.

  18. Tje first guy:
The Idea was to blame Anifa/BLM for an Insurrection but it Went South on them because I and Many worked hard on getting Antifa/BLM to not show up and stay home They did just that and it fuqqed up a Coup Attempt. We Ruined a Coup

  19. Jordan wanted to be on the panel, now he gets to be on the panel.  Under oath , he can’t refuse to testify , Nancy has his balls in her purse.  Same thing for Kevin .
They can’t refuse to appear.  And they can’t refuse to answer with the  5th , and they can’t lie.
She’s about castrate  both of them.
    Washington  DC Oysters

  20. Sitting in the BHM airport (Don’t fly AA) and across the way is a guy with two sons, none with masks and the sons (young to mid teens) are riding skateboards in the terminal. You know, a family of assholes.

  21. The first guy:
In 2011 Obama did an Executive Order on the Mob. He hired Bobby III Sticks to head that Investigation and PROSECUTION. It’s Always been about International Organized Crime. What happened along the way was trumps name kept popping up everywhere

  22. TFirst guy:
and in 2016 Mueller asked the FBI to open up an investigation to see if there was anything to it. There was and they freaked hence the Comey and company actions as he was getting fired. Now who was Mueller tasked with going after. The Boss of Bosses, Mogilevich.
HE is the #1 Priority, Not trump. trump just happened to be wrapped up all over the place. New York will take care of trump. Eyes on the Prize folks. Hi Semion Mogilevich. Now you know why they are being Very Careful. This is WAY BIGGER that US!!!

  23. It made me feel really fine to see gym jordan doing Ralph Kramden on tv.  “Homina Homina Homina!”

  24. So I read about Logos today , 27 Million Nigerians.
SLR is about eat their world.  They produce the best oil in the world for making gasoline , we have been gobbling it up since their first well.  Did this wealth  rise them  up ?
No ,  when oil has been found none of the locals  has ever been  lifted up.  They only get a Boom Town rush , and the mess left behind.

We are still plugging holes in Penn. from the first rush.

  25. I saw “Coal Brian Joe” this morning he’s certain that Carbon Capture is just around the corner  .
He did not say a word about  what digging up coal  really means.
Like the rest of the fossil fuel  stream.
None of the miners ever got rich in WV.  And now their streams are running with heavy metals  from the old model of the world.
That is screw the miners as long as it works, then bail out.

If fossil fuel extraction is so good, why is WV so poor?
Why  is stealing copper wire  from old mines to support a drug habit is a growth  industry in WV ?

  26. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/01/us/provincetown-outbreak-residents-response/index.html

“Roughly three-quarters of those cases were among fully vaccinated people… There were five hospitalizations associated with the outbreak — four of whom were fully vaccinated people — and no deaths reported, the CDC study said.”

“But I was educated quickly, as all of us were here, getting vaccinated does not give you the ability to engage in high-risk activities or otherwise assume that you don’t have to take any precautions,” he told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on Friday.“

So glad we will have to wear masks in Broadway theaters this fall…and hopefully there won’t be any maskless, skateboarders in the airport, as they’ll be in school.

  27. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/01/politics/kevin-mccarthy-nancy-pelosi-gavel/index.html

“A threat of violence to someone who was a target of a #January6th assassination attempt from your fellow Trump supporters is irresponsible and disgusting,” Drew Hammill said in a Saturday tweet in response to the reports.“

“Violence against women is no laughing matter,” New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries wrote on Twitter, calling on the House minority leader to apologize.“

“America has suffered enough violence around politics. @GOPLeader McCarthy is now a would-be assailant of @SpeakerPelosi,” he wrote on Twitter.“

Does McKevin owe his over-confidence to Orange Adolf blowing smoke up his backside?

    McKevin is a morooon.

  28. Now they are cutting trees , as fast as they can.  To feed the gut of Home Depot.

They never learned  that selling off your land , only makes you poorer.

  29. Haha. If you’re on Twitter follow the guy at badd compani.
He’s having a good time with all this stuff

  30. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/nerve-changes-eyes-can-help-confirm-long-covid-mental-health-issues-tied-covid-2021-07-28/

“Changes in nerve fibers in the eyes can help confirm a diagnosis of “long COVID” – debilitating symptoms that persist more than four week after recovery from the acute illness…”

“Corneas of patients with long COVID also contained more immune cells called dendritic cells, reflecting the body’s response to injury. “

  31. Old man, it did, but of course the song was about Muhlenburg County Kentucky. Same shit, different state.
