Sunday Jazz

This playlist is from the 1959 album Kelly Blue, by Jazz Pianist, Wynton Kelly

Coming off of his success as a sideman with Miles Davis’s sextet, Riverside Records gave Kelly an opportunity to expand on his solo career. Kelly Blue was his second LP for the label.

The songs feature Kelly and bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Together they had formed the rhythm section for the Miles Davis bands. Guests include Nat Adderley, Bobby Jaspar and Benny Golson.

Enjoy, Jack

  1. not as cool, but catchy

Whose Land is this anyway? Does it belong to the Mega-Corporations? To MAGA? To Trump? To the donors of Congress such as AIPAC, Big Pharma, and the Military Industrial Complex? Are we just here to be the workforce and funders of it all?

  2. I’m still finding spooky stuff in Trump’s executive order expanding deployment of National Guard.
Here they appear to be setting the stage to “deputize” MAGA vigilantes:

It calls for the creation of “an online portal for Americans with law enforcement or other relevant backgrounds and experience.” Agency heads then “shall each deputize the members of this unit to enforce federal law.”

    — Executive Order (8/25/2025): Sec. 2. Operational Actions. (b)

They make it easy to bring on anyone: “law enforcement or other relevant backgrounds and experience” — watching an episode of Law & Order could suffice.

“The clock is about to strike midnight for Maduro,” a source close to the administration told The Post on Saturday. “And it’s not a Cinderella story.”

As many as 4,500 service members – including three guided-missile destroyers and a nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine – were in region or expected to arrive within the coming week, The Post reported Thursday.

A US guided-missile cruiser was spotted crossing the Panama Canal as part of a build-up of ships near Venezuela — as administration gave a dire prediction about the country’s dictator Nicolás Maduro.

The USS Lake Eerie crossed the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea Friday night — over a week after President Trump directed at least eight Navy warships to the region in a bid to counter narco-terrorists in South America.

*That’s quite a buildup to counter drug cartels. This is about more than drugs.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order on Saturday afternoon regarding federal immigration enforcement and President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy the National Guard as part of a crackdown on crime.

Two federal law enforcement officials have told NBC News that ICE, Border Patrol and other agencies will send numerous agents and equipment to the city in an effort to increase arrests of undocumented immigrants. The operation could begin as soon as next week.

“We reject any attempts to put Chicagoans in danger as a means of furthering the president’s political ends…,” Johnson said in a statement. “Sending in militarized immigration enforcement will only cause chaos and fear in our communities.”

*Are NG troops from other states going to met with resistance from that state’s NG? They did not sign up to fight other Americans. Also, why would they when they are being cycled out at 29 days so they don’t get the pay and benefits they would at 30 days?

Craig, how bout proud boy & oath keeper for relevancy?
might be what Dodo had in mind in January.
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2025/01/22/trump-pardons-proud-boys-oath-keepers-leaders/

Of the almost 1,600 people convicted in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, whose sentences were commuted or who received full pardons from President Donald Trump on Monday, arguably the two most high-profile prisoners were Henry “Enrique” Tarrio and Stewart Rhodes.

Tarrio and Rhodes are, respectively, the leaders of the extremist street gang the Proud Boys and the founder and leader of the anti-government “militia” the Oath Keepers. Those two groups became synonymous with the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, and Tarrio and Rhodes received the longest sentences of anyone charged in the attack. Both men were prosecuted for helping plan the insurrection, and both were convicted of seditious conspiracy. Tarrio received a 22-year sentence. Rhodes got 18 years.

  6. https://www.rawstory.com/trump-infuriating-29-day-orders/

Donald Trump has reportedly gone out of his way to avoid paying national guard troops sent in to Washington, D.C., resulting in outrage from veterans.

The reports started earlier in the summer that Trump was utilizing a loophole when deploying the national guard, and avoiding paying those individuals certain additional benefits. In June, Vote In Or Out reported that “Trump deployed National Guard troops on multiple 29-day orders—specifically choosing durations under 30 days to avoid paying full Basic Allowance for Housing Type 1 (BAH‑1).”

“Under Title 32 regulations, if orders run fewer than 30 days, members receive only the reduced ‘BAH‑Type 2,’ not full BAH‑1; full benefits begin only on day 31 and only apply from that point forward—not retroactively,” the group wrote. “By repeatedly cycling short orders—ending them on day 29 and restarting on day 31—the administration saved roughly $2,500 per service member per month, based on differences between BAH‑Type 2 and BAH‑1.”

Early Sunday morning, military analyst WarMonitor reported, “White House put DC National Guard on 29-day orders… 1 day short of 30 needed for full housing and health benefits.”

Ex-GOP lawmaker Adam Kinzinger, himself a veteran, also raised the issue on Sunday morning, writing, “So Trump put the national guard on 29 day orders?!”

“Why does this matter: They don’t pay full housing allowance and no health insurance until 30 days,” Kinzinger added. “What an abusive commander in chief. So Trump.”

A self-identified veteran replied to Kinzinger, writing, “I’m an ex-Military guy too, and we all know this is the kind of BS thing that infuriates us.”

“We swear an oath to the Constitution, not a man – and when a mere man abuses his power this way, we have every right to refuse an order we think is illegal,” wrote the user, @EpicJourneyMan1. They added, “Before he pisses us off!”

Another self-identified veteran, known as @the15six, wrote Sunday, “29 day orders. What a giant piece of s— for a CiC. It’s always ‘f— the troops’ with Trump.”

  7. https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/45257341/ped-use-allowed-new-enhanced-games-set-2026

A new company hoping to infuse unprecedented levels of science, money and performance-enhancing drugs into Olympic-style sports says it will hold its first formal competition in May 2026 in Las Vegas.

Enhanced Games announced plans Wednesday to host in exactly one year its first annual competition in which athletes will be allowed, if not outright encouraged, to use PEDs like steroids, testosterone and growth hormone that are typically legal to possess but banned in sports. Organizers say they hope to remove the stigma of using these substances and promote safer ways to push the limits of human performance.

Company officials say the competition next May will not quite be an anything-goes steroid bonanza. Enhanced Games athletes will be allowed to take substances that are legal in the United States and prescribed by a licensed doctor, the company says. Examples may include testosterone, growth hormone and some types of anabolic steroids. Illicit drugs — cocaine, for example — will not be allowed.

Enhanced Games has received millions of dollars in initial funding from some notable venture capitalists, including PayPal founder Peter Thiel, psychedelics and longevity enthusiast Christian Angermayer and 1789 Capital, an investment firm run in part by Donald Trump Jr.

  8. But what is your proof that it is a power grab?
In the last year of Biden’s term, 2023 to 2024 year over year violent crime stats.
Murder dropped 32%, Robberies dropped 39%, rape dropped 23%, assaults dropped 27%
Of the 200 most populace cities, it ranks #29 in violent crime. All proof that the local police/justice system has crime under control. BTW those year over year stats are truly amazing.
That is why you know it is a power grab.

  9. Craig all 3 major cities in Missouri, do.
2, St Louis and Kansas City are in the top 10.
The most surprising one for me was Chicago, ranked at 92 and San Diego, down in the 130s. As was El Paso. Being a border city doesn’t seem to be too dangerous.

  10. Time for the spy and action novels to pick up new ideas. The castle intrigue is at a high level. Where is krasnov is the question going around. The WH has put out questionable pictures, and spurious travel to a golf course. There is a possible double that was not exactly getting the role. The WH shows, at a distance, a male that resembles sfb. However, there is one huge issue. The president does not do his favorite action, go to the media and talk. Not one word.

Conspiracy theorists are going wild. The most common reasons for a no show sfb are a stroke or heart attack. With today’s odd picture of an oversize hat on stupid’s head we now have fall and head damage. No matter. Whatever has occurred it prevents krasnov from talking. There has been a few outputs on the truth social thing, but almost all of those could not be from stupid, they are literate, real words and formatted in a reasonable manner.

However, the best is he is already dead. He may already be prepped for burial. Or, he is a dead man “walking”. Most likely he is still breathing, but on final approach to the ending.

  11. Craig – Supposedly, there are protests in DC today. ??? I know there are protests scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday, because I posted them yesterday.

  12. Another reason to fortify DC. JD is widely unpopular and swearing in that POS might not go smoothly, considering he cast the tie-breaking vote to take away everything from ordinary Americans so billionaires can have bigger tax cuts in perpetuity.

Dying. Hmm. That’s not enough to make Epstein go away, because there are too many ties to other nations.

    A war with Venezuela. Hmmm.

  13. Read something from a Canadian saying there would be a long line to psss on Adolf’s grave, and they’d be loading up on asparagus before they did.

  14. Blue

Saw that Canadian post. It recommended installing additional drainage.

I can hardly wait to play this inn his honor

  15. NBC still reporting like tRUMP is alive and still clapping back at Pritzker and the like.

Giant, dark MAGAt cap on someone resembling Adolf leaving the WH. Almost cartoonishly big. Head wrapped?

Old pics of tRUMPsky popping up as proof-of-life.

Buuut, Congress is coming back on Tuesday and the tRUMP/Epstein victims are giving a presser on Wednesday. Definitely a lot wrong with Adolf, but is it a tool to deflect from Epstein?

JD & Peewee German & Keg-Seth & Lil Marco & Peter Thiel are making the decisions. JD will get to be the spokesmodel for now, but I suspect infighting will be wild.

  16. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5475829-us-boycotts-un-human-rights/

The United States won’t participate in a United Nations review of its human rights record, arguing engaging with the process would present an endorsement of the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC), which President Trump withdrew the U.S. from in February.

A State Department official said taking part would ignore the body’s “persistent failure to condemn the most egregious human rights violators” and that the U.S. would not be “lectured about our human rights record by the likes of HRC members such as Venezuela, China, or Sudan.”

Known as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), it calls on member states to submit a report every 4 1/2 years on actions it has taken to improve the human rights situation in their own countries, and receive recommendations from member states for continued improvement. The U.S. was expected to submit its report in November.

Human Rights First said the U.S. joins Israel as the only country to not submit a report since the UPR started in 2006, but it noted Israel rejoined the process in 2013, 2018 and 2023.
“Showing up and explaining your own record on human rights is the bare minimum for any government that purports to exercise international leadership and uphold democratic norms,” said Uzra Zeya, president and CEO of Human Rights First. Zeya previously served as under secretary of state for civilian security, democracy, and human rights in the Biden administration.

Back in 2021, Israel was one of the only two countries among all UN members that voted against a resolution reaffirming the right to food as a fundamental human right — a motion that passed with 186 votes in favour.
The US was the only country to side with Israel in opposing the access to food as the “fundamental right of everyone to be free from hunger”.
Four years on, that ignominious vote at the UN General Assembly led to Israel’s 11-week aid blockade in Gaza, turning the occupied territory into the “hungriest place on Earth” with all its people facing the risk of famine.
“Palestinians in Gaza have the right to food and security. (The US and Israel) are ignoring international law. The real challenge is that there is no enforceable mechanism against the US or Israel,” Antony Loewenstein, an investigative journalist…
