jack, thanks for upbeat music for upbeat day (fingers crossed).
tempting fate i know, but maybe … maybe please with sugar on it that the dems and the indies and what’s left of the good GOPers won both the house and the senate
Happy days are here again The skies above are clear again So let’s sing a song of cheer again Happy days are here again
Altogether shout it now There’s no one, no one Who can doubt it now
So let’s tell the world about it now Happy days are here again

Where is the red wave I was promised? This cannot be! Something has gone wrong! These results — something is the matter with them. I would like to speak to an election manager, if one can be found.
After this disheartening news, I have been doing a great deal of soul-searching. Not my soul, which is, of course, perfect, but the souls of others. What, for instance, possessed Gen Z to put down their phones and Pokémon-Go-to-the-polls, and — worse yet — to vote for Democrats in substantial numbers when they arrived there? There has been some mistake, clearly. And until we can get to the bottom of it, we have got to take prompt action to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. Change our platform so that anything in it is appealing to young people? Learn to take the campaign to online spaces? Make inroads on TikTok? No, God forbid.
[…]
The answer is simple: We have got to raise the voting age. Twenty-one? That might not be enough, honestly. Millennials are not as conservative as they ought to be and some of them are pushing 40 now. We should consider whether we might not want it to be higher than that. Fifty feels reasonable. A good, round number.
I hear what you are saying. “You keep trying to tackle the problem from the perspective of discouraging voters! Why not, instead, modify any of your stances in a way that might encourage more people to vote for you?” I will tell you why not: because I do not want to.
Consider whom you want to trust with making decisions for the future. Shouldn’t you put your confidence in sober, levelheaded elders who, on their way out, are entirely unbiased and can look at the situation without considering their own self-interest?
Young people are the last people you want to make important choices about the future. They are not objective about it; they will be the ones living there.
Now there’s some party music, thanks Jack. Party like it’s 2022!
There are so many questions regarding the demise of twit. First is a little fact, Mush did not pay forty-four billion dollars, he used other peoples money. The OPM came from quite dubious sources, which might be write offs for them if they do not get paid. Also, getting rid of twit for them is simliar to getting rid of a pesky fly. Did he also want to get rid of the fly? My guess is yes.
I started my account on Mastodon, @pamsails@mindly.social. My account name and the server it is located on. Mastodon is a group of servers which communicate to form the Mastodon. Servers are created by a person/group for a concept, such as arts. It may work as I am seeing more names from twit showing up in it.
A highlight of my twitting was making Norm Macdonald and BJ Thomas laugh. Dept. of Small achievements.
Haven’t seen Guilfold lately. I wonder if she’s learned how to shut up.
Chick. Great choice Jack.
And another sign of the Dumbass effect. WaPo.
After years of watching Republicans dominate in down-ballot races, Democrats turned the tables to their own advantage in the midterm elections, flipping some legislative chambers from GOP control and blocking efforts to create veto-proof majorities in others.
In Pennsylvania, where votes continued to be counted, Democrats are on the precipice of taking control of the state House for the first time since 2008. Democrats also won Michigan’s House and Senate, as well as the Minnesota Senate. Thereelection victories for Govs. Gretchen Whitmer (Mich.) and Tim Walz (Minn.) give Democrats total control over those two states — for the first time in Michigan since after the 1982 election.
If the early results hold up in states where some races remain undetermined, Democrats will not have lost control of a single legislature that they previously held, a feat not accomplished by the president’s party during a midterm election since 1934.

Trump seems to have restrained himself (or the women threatened to kill him if he didn’t) for Tiffany’s wedding.
any chance that patty murray (who’s the 3rd highest ranking dem and who’s been assistant democratic leader in senate since 2017) can become majority leader? sure wish schumer would gracefully step aside for her since i think she’s more able than he is to get both sides working together.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday she is waiting to decide about her next steps in the new Congress, saying any decision to run for leadership depends on her family and her Democratic colleagues.
“Well, the fact is, any decision to run is about family, and also my colleagues and what we want to do is go forward in a very unified way, as we go forward to prepare for the Congress at hand,” the California Democrat told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.” “Nonetheless, a great deal is at stake because we’ll be in a presidential election. So my decision will again be rooted in the wishes of my family and the wishes of my caucus. But none of it will be very much considered until we see what the outcome of all of this is. And there are all kinds of ways to exert influence.”
“You’ll make a decision before (the Democrats’ leadership elections on Nov. 30)?” Bash asked Pelosi.
“Of course. Well, you know that I’m not asking anybody – People are campaigning, and that’s a beautiful thing. And I’m not asking anyone for anything,” Pelosi said.
When asked if she believes House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy has what it takes to be House speaker if Republicans win the chamber, Pelosi said she wants to see the results of the election first.
“Let’s just get through the election, OK? They haven’t won yet. They’ve been measuring the draperies, they’ve been putting forth an agenda. They haven’t won it yet. After the election is concluded, depending on who was in the majority, there’ll be judgments made within their own party, in our own parties, as to how we go forward,” Pelosi said.
When Bash asked again if McCarthy “has it,” Pelosi said no.
“Why would I make a judgment about something that may or may not ever happen? No, I don’t think he has it,” she said. “But that’s up to his own people to make a decision as to how they want to be led or otherwise.”
[continues]
Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Sunday said the surprising Democratic victories in the midterm elections “belongs to Joe Biden” after the party retained control of the Senate and while a handful of still-to-be-called House races will determine who controls that chamber.
“It belongs to Joe Biden and the Democrats who got out there and fought for working people,” Warren told NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd. “The things we did were important and popular.
“Remember, right after Joe Biden was sworn in, all of the economists and the pundits in his ear were saying, ‘Go slow, go small,’” she said. “Joe Biden didn’t listen to them. And in fact, he went big.”
Warren listed a number of achievements, including the Inflation Reduction Act as successes.
“The President’s leadership put us in a position, every candidate, up and down the ballot, to talk about what Democrats fight for and what we deliver on,” the senator said. “And by doing that, we were able to address the values and the economic security of people across this country. And it sure paid off. It paid off at historic levels.”

I doubt Patty Murray would want Leader. She’s 72 so older than Schumer, and while a solid vote and committee member hasn’t been all that active. Some other possibilities:
Tammy Duckworth
Maria Cantwell
Kirsten Gillibrand
Mazie Hirono
Amy Klobuchar
Jeanne Shaheen
Debbie Stabenow
jamie,

“For tribal nations, the Indian Child Welfare Act is about their future.”
“There’s nothing that is more central to core self-governance and sovereignty than having the next generation of citizens in your government,” Nimmo said.
“With this legal case, that future hangs in the balance. If the Supreme Court were to rule that tribes are racial groups rather than political entities and that the law is therefore unconstitutional, much of the legal basis for tribal sovereignty would be at risk, Reese said.”
“Another argument made by the plaintiffs – particularly that the Indian Child Welfare Act is an overreach of Congress’ powers regarding tribal affairs – could have similarly wide-ranging implications if the Court were to agree, she added. It could call into question virtually all of Title 25 of the US Code, a section of the law that pertains to Indians and tribes.”
“If that whole section is constitutionally suspect, that’s a huge problem for tribes,” she said.
We still need Rev. Warnock. Remember, we are still saddled with Manch-ynema.
I think Warnock will win the runoff. Nobody is showing up for Kemp or other offices, and I think the shine is wearing off of Walker and Orange Adolf.
It may be apparent depending upon how welcome/unwelcome the announcement is from Mar-El-Ego on Tuesday.
My first choice was Amy if she wanted the job and didn’t go for POTUS, with either Hirono or Duckworth as strong preferences.
As painful as it might be for the adoptive parents, I think you need to side with the tribes. Let them work it out for the child, but the US has reneged on treaties for too long. They are both sovereign nations and citizens within the US and need to be treated as such.
