  8. Donating to & supporting Cynthia Nixon’s run against Cuomo. The Zephyr Teachout wing of the Democratic Party is actually forward looking, progressive & inclusive as compared to the old boys backroom rot of the Cuomo gang. The odds are high but any crack in the door lets one more sunbeam into the dark hall of politics populated by the usual suspects. With all the talk of blue waves perhaps deliberate trickles may yield more favorable, permanent results.

    The Boston Bruins are playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs.  Every time they play in Toronto, the Canadian fans boo the singing of our national anthem.  Yup…  mild mannered don’t ever rock the boat Canadians…  I can only imagine what the rest of the world thinks of us.

    As for the hand jobs, Macron grabs Trumpsky’s hand first sometimes, but with what seems like a lot of force.   Is this some weird, man thing to see who will say  uncle first?

    It’s a weird relationship.  The wives looked like the adults on this visit.

    Trumpsky sort of got a tiny, military parade with the salute during Macron’s visit.  I’m sure he would’ve preferred to put on a grander show.

Sturg, Back in the day – around 1966 or so I had a friend in a rival band who had either a Telecaster or Broadcaster (maybe even a Nocaster) that he got handed down to him from his uncle – one of the blond ones with a maple neck, kinda beat up – you know, just about perfect.  I had a Silvertone single cut two pickup guitar from Sears – looked a bit like a Les Paul, but it was definitely not a Gibson.  I wanted that Fender in the worst way – and he was willing to sell it for $200.00, but I didn’t have $200.00.  Thing’s probably worth $20,000 or more now.  Sigh, days gone by and missed opportunities.

     

  20. I hope Cynthia Nixon wins.  She is smart and understands the current issues and is capable of learning.   I would like to see more citizen volunteers and not professional politicians running for office.

    Trump is not a citizen volunteer he is a lifetime corrupt politician and is stupid and sly besides.

    When I look back I long for the days when everything about politics was managed by volunteers.  One did not go from campaign to campaign.  You worked for someone you really wanted to hold office and then if it worked out you might get a job.  Your campaign manager was usually your brother in law or your best friend.   Now there is barely anything for volunteers to do except donate money.

    I’m jaded about Party Politics in general – they’re professional exclusive clubs for the most part. So & so’s kid will get hired somewhere, whether competent or not. Zephyr Teachout lit a spark under me & Cynthia Nixon keeps that fire burning. I can tell you that the Teachout folks I kept in touch with are everyday people like me. A number are teachers, btw. And many, like myself, are non-affiliated but we choose to support this Democrat & those like her because we support their point of view. Our voices matter & someone is listening.

    Meanwhile, the Hill reports, “Democrats in New York flipped a New York Assembly seat on Tuesday, winning a seat that has been in GOP hands for nearly four decades. Democrat Steve Stern, a former Suffolk County legislator, beat out Janet Smitelli (R) for AD-10, a Long Island seat with 59 percent of the vote. … The district has been represented by a Republican since 1978.” The win is the 40th state legislative seat that Democrats have flipped since President Trump took office.

    President Trump’s longtime attorney, Michael Cohen, will invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in a civil lawsuit brought by adult entertainer Stormy Daniels — a move that would prevent him revealing anything that could be used later by federal prosecutors.
     
    “Based on the advice of counsel, I will assert my 5th Amendment rights in connection with all proceedings in this case due to the ongoing criminal investigation by the FBI and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York,” Cohen wrote in the filing in Los Angeles federal court.

    “Talking, when you’re the subject of an investigation, when they are thinking that this contract was a federal crime … is incredibly reckless,” Ken White, a former assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles, tells NPR.
     
    “The only sensible thing to do is shut up and not make it worse,” he says.
     
    Cohen’s lawyers have asked for the case to be put on hold for 90 days, which could give Cohen and his legal team an opportunity to see the direction the FBI is moving.
     
    Ultimately, however, the move could help Stormy Daniels in her suit, according to Renaldo Mariotti, a Chicago-based attorney and former federal prosecutor.
     
    “[The] judge or jury could draw what is called and ‘adverse inference.’ In other words, they could conclude that the answers to the questions that he’s taking the Fifth on would have hurt him,” Mariotti tells NPR.

The inquiry is said to be focusing on hush-money payments that Mr. Cohen made to — or helped arrange for — Ms. Clifford and Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who has also said she had an affair with Mr. Trump.
    For days now, prosecutors from the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan have been sparring with Mr. Cohen’s lawyers — and with lawyers for Mr. Trump — for the right to review the records first, a step that will shape the contours of how the government presses its investigation into whether Mr. Cohen tried to suppress negative news coverage of the president in the run-up to the 2016 election.
     
    Lawyers for Mr. Cohen suggested on Wednesday that they were already taking steps to gird themselves for battle. In new court papers, they said that they were setting up “war rooms” to review the seized materials, testing and vetting “systems” to process them, and marshaling what seems to be a small legal army of “operations and technology personnel, paralegals, discovery experts, associates and senior reviewing partners.”

    All of the papers were requested in advance by Judge Wood, who, in a hearing on April 16, put off a decision on how to resolve the conflict over the attorney-client privilege review, saying that she might appoint a special master to oversee the process. Two days later, the prosecutors and Mr. Cohen’s lawyers submitted to Judge Wood lists of potential candidates.
