Our leaders stupidly got 58,000 Americans killed in Vietnam. Now we’re at stupidity killing 44,000.
Took 19 years to kill 58k Americans in Vietnam. Only took 5 months for Trump Plague to kill 44k.
How ironic Trump is about to oversee more dead Americans than in a war he dodged.

Every family who lost loved ones to this cruelty should sue FOX: Laura Ingraham the high priestess of the hydroxychloroquine hoax, on her show last night suddenly never mentions it, ignoring new studies finding drug doesn’t work against virus, can kill those who try it. Good article in the New Yorker.

The Lt. Gov of Texas is right if you consider the absence of people a good thing for the environment. Of course the people involved will probably object.

https://www.masslive.com/coronavirus/2020/04/it-is-time-to-pause-all-debt-payments-and-cancel-student-loan-debt-amid-coronavirus-outbreak-elizabeth-warren-says.html
As lawmakers hammer out a fourth COVID-19 relief package, Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown on Tuesday proposed a host of measures, including pausing all debt payments, to provide quick relief to American consumers grappling with a pandemic that’s cost millions their jobs and made it tougher to pay bills.
While the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided stimulus checks of at least $1,200 to most American adults, Warren of Massachusetts and Brown of Ohio, both Democrats, said the payments won’t mean much if Congress doesn’t “stop predatory debt collectors and banks from ripping these funds out of the hands of consumers.”
In a Medium post Tuesday, the senators said the simplest way to provide relief to Americans struggling to make ends meet during the crisis was to start “allowing consumers to put a pause on all payments.”
“Americans should have the option to keep paying their debts if they have the means, but they shouldn’t be punished if they can’t do so,” they wrote. “That means no accrued interest, late fees, or other penalties for nonpayment of a debt. And when this crisis does pass, consumers should have additional time to catch up on their payments.”
Additionally, the lawmakers want to temporarily prohibit debt collectors from using garnishments, evictions, repossessions and utility disconnection as a way to collect on debts.
“Nobody should lose their home, their car, or their internet during a global pandemic — it’s not just a moral imperative, it’s a public health necessity,” they said.

If joe picks amy for veep, will MN gov return al to senate in her place?
Today, it was finally time to request my 1st payment from unemployment today; I’ve been unemployed since 4/9 and was finally able to file on 4/10. I swear it was the most exasperating, humiliating thing. Every question assumes you are lazy and don’t want to work. There also seem to be several questions about citizenship and ethnicity; they are in more than one place. It then threw me into a resume wizard to try to find a job, even though my employer will rehire me after the lockdown. I assure you, I would rather have my full paycheck and benefits than a little unemployment check.
As for Dan Patrick, please notice that he hides behind a giant, cross pin on his lapel. There is not a Christian bone in that man’s body.
old 2015 story from politico on joe’s druthers for veep
https://www.politico.com/story/2016/05/joe-biden-elizabeth-warren-223104
Joe Biden took months to decide he wouldn’t run for president — but he was sold on Elizabeth Warren as his running mate from the start, people familiar with the situation told POLITICO.
And he still thinks the Massachusetts firebrand would be Hillary Clinton’s best choice to replace him as the nation’s No. 2 in January 2017.
[…]
Biden, a senior Democratic official said, first mentioned Warren as a possible running mate during his earliest strategy sessions with a team of advisers that included friends Mike Donilon, Steve Richetti and Ted Kaufman; Donilon, the person said, was particularly enthusiastic about it.
And Biden broached the idea, almost matter of factly, to Warren during a much-hyped lunch meeting at the vice president’s residence on the grounds of the Naval Observatory last September.
Biden, according to a person briefed on details of the meeting, told Warren he wanted her to be his running mate “during the conversation” but didn’t explicitly ask her to commit to the slot or endorse his candidacy. Warren, the person told POLITICO, was “noncommittal” but “not displeased.”
?
I’d be so happy with Warren as VP, but I like Amy, too. But Warren is just perfect!
I don’t have incredibly strong feelings on it but I’d rather have a woman of color as the veep candidate. I don’t believe veep candidates normally drive votes, but these are not normal times.
Delay. Denial. Death.
Pelosi characterizing SFB performance in Trump plague. Surely someone more creative than me can make a bumper sticker from that.
I just found out this morning that my return to work date has been pushed back May 11th. That’s an extra 2 weeks off. Anybody wanna go to Georgia with me this weekend? We can go to the gym. Get hair cuts. And go bowling!
Craig… love the idea of suing Fox and Ingraham!
I want Biden to pick someone who would make a decent president. I don’t care what color she is… but I do care he doesn’t pick a Senator from a state with a republican governor.

Still think VP pick should be black or Hispanic. Harris has a more progressive voting record that Warren. If he chooses a white woman, I would be fine with Amy, but not Warren. Warren wouldn’t stop me from voting for Joe, but think she is a bad choice simply because she is from the east coast as is Joe. A better geographic spread is needed.
It would be nice to get Al to replace Amy but not sure if the gov would risk that one.
craig, thanks. your advice to do a little history cleaning did the trick. cleared the cobwebs.

Oregon will “partially” re-open.
Oregon was one of the first states to order a shutdown.
Western Oregon (where 3/4 of the population lives) is solidly Democratic and people there support the shutdown, but eastern Oregon is Republican, and the Republicans want to re-open.
So … at some point within the next few weeks our (Democrat) governor will order that that counties in the eastern half of the state will do a “partial re-opening” of what had been classified as “non-essential businesses” such as: restaurants, bars, beauty salons, barber shops, etc. There will be some new rules regarding social distancing and the use of protective equipment (masks, etc) within these businesses, although the effectiveness of these measures is debatable.
This is a clever political strategy on the governor’s part. It should keep the right wing idiots who watch Fox News happy, for a while. And then, when they begin to die in large numbers, perhaps they will agree to go back to a more comprehensive shutdown.
Some have questioned the ethics of this move, as people will certainly die needlessly. But most of those of us who live in western/democratic half of the state do NOT want a STATEWIDE re-opening, and that is what the Republicans have been agitating for at the state capitol, with their nasty and misspelled protest signs and their assault rifles.
So, with a partial re-open, everyone gets what they want.
For the people who live in eastern Oregon, all I can say is “Be careful what you wish for because someday you may get it.”
Nash, that should remove Oregon from Barr’s radar. It is insane that Barr is considering suing states (or supporting suits) for “going too far with stay-at-home rules” that comply with the reopening scheme announced by the WH Coronavirus task force last week. Oh, Mr. Carroll, could you come back and write a short story about this?
The British online newspaper “The Guardian” reports today that medical researchers in France who noticed that smokers have a statistically significant lower Covid-19 infection rate than the general population are now experimenting with nicotine patches to see if they help in treating the disease.
This got me thinking…

Just saying…
Michael Dell, for whom I ultimately work through several layers of supervisors, has foregone a salary through at least the end of the calendar year. Dell as a company was an early adopter of work from home if duties allow. For those who are considered essential and required to go to an office, warehouse, manufacturing or customer site, shorter work hours have been established at full pay across all divisions in every country where Dell has operations.
We’re getting weekly updates through email and team meetings. We’ve been advised that established policies will be in place as long as necessary. We’ve been advised that plans are being formulated for employees to go back to the office if they choose, and these plans are in accordance with medical professionals and best practices to ensure safety. Those plans have scheduled evaluations at 30 day intervals. We don’t have to go back to the office if we’re not comfortable, but if we decide to go when it’s safe, Dell will do everything it can to support our health and safety.
I guess a lot of negative things can be said about Dell as a company. It’s a corporation after all and does a lot of manufacturing overseas where wages and expenses are low. This virus is an ongoing, dynamic situation. We don’t know what things are going to look like in a month or six.
But today, those of us employed by Dell are feeling valued.

Bink – at this time the COVID-19 attack is climbing in this region. We are on the up slope and I am spending as much time as possible in the land pod. Very limited exposure to the world. I had to go out this morning on a forage for ice (meat coolers), bread flour and buttermilk, 0630 is a good time to go out. For the first time in a month there was flour in the flour section of the grocery store. About ten of the King Arthur unbleached all purpose flour, five pounders.
After many decades of baking failures I learned something this morning. A lesson I could have used in the Fifties when I first attempted to bake anything. As all who have a kitchen and cook, I have flour. Nothing special, just all purpose flour to use for coating things for frying or thickening gravy and things like that. Lately, due to the lack of bread flour, I have been experimenting with a bag of all purpose flour, store brand. The results were very similar to my early life and why I gave up baking for sixty years.
I learned that not all “all purpose” flour is the same. I tried using the King Arthur flour in the bread machine today. Considering the series of failures I had thrown away I was not expecting much. After getting all started in the Zojirushi bread machine I sat down and did a search for King Arthur all purpose flour bread. The results were universal, using King Arthur flour was very good because it was high in the grains used for bread flour. The bread turned out great.
I did start the day making Lily self-rising flour to make buttermilk biscuits. Yum!
Yes, I saw a victory garden ad on TV. It was from an unnecessary fertilizer company, but it was nice to see promotion of home gardening. Just talked to my manager who is swamped and wishes I was back already. It’s nice to be missed. She said that some on our distribution team who’ve had hours cut, but who are still working a bit, are getting the $600/week already; it’s not pro-rated, so they are doing better. As for those in our UK company who are at home, they are getting 80% of pay to stay home and not know what day it is nor when it’s time to eat dinner.
BB – I’ve never used a bread machine, but used to alternate making bread or sweet rolls every weekend when I was in my late teens. We only had Gold Medal AP flour at home and it worked fine. We did get a bag of graham flour once, and if you sub 2 cups of that for AP, it makes a nice, slightly sweet loaf of bread.
i haven’t been using any flour in anticipation of baked-bread shortages, but i may finally have enough, now, to feel comfortable splurging on some homemade pasta one of these nights.
The local yokels around here are getting restless and and are eager to see re-openings. They know not the

FoxNews should at the very least suspend Laura Ingraham and internally investigate her relentless promotion of a potentially dangerous drug to their viewers. If not, the lawsuits are gonna be ugly.
One would have to name lardbutt because he was the source of that snake oil claim. Is it true he has a financial stake in the company that makes it?
The silver lining of less pollution –bring on the Green New Deal!
Yes, but who fed SFB info on the fake cure that killed? Trump is the mouthpiece for fake medicine.
I’ve only made noodles once, long ago. Grandma said they weren’t thin enough. She was right. We had very long, doughy dumplings in the soup.
FoxNews lawyers must be advocating decisive action to shut down promotion of unsafe drugs or the network will get sued and lose.
bId – The bread machine was my last resort for making bread. I gave up trying to buy it when a loaf of rye hit four dollars and was usually not available. That was prior to this current pandemic. I only have one hand that is functional enough to work hard, so kneading bread dough was something that was not happening. I had poo pooed bread machines as something I would never use. Then the milieu of high price and unavailable hit. I bought this one a little over a year ago. I love my bread machine. I have not even left the bread making section of the recipe booklet, the rest of it though is on the horizon.

Everything Trump touches dies. If he couldn’t kill Americans with his fake cure, he’ll kill the career of anyone who doesn’t back him.
Maybe fallout from Dr. Bright’s statement has Faux covering its corporate behind.
BB – I forgot about your cast. Is everything healing OK? I’m not anti-bread machine, having never used one. I do know my kitchen personality. I’ve used my coffee/pod maker maybe 6 times. Same for the juicer. I’ve never used the InstaPot cooker; it’s still in the box. I make toast in a skillet, as I gave away my toaster long ago. I see all of these little gizmos to cut stuff; they are gently used, as I find a knife does the trick just as well. I have so much produce on my counter that there is no room for anything else. Cupboard space is limited in this apartment. I miss my old kitchen.

Mayor of a sinking ship. Who’s gonna travel to Vegas to get exposed to a virus and spend money they don’t have? It’s not her job to tell businesses how to handle reopening? Lack of executive leadership/capability/concern is flourishing at all levels of government.
“Covid toes” mainly on teens and young adults. Lesions akin to frostbite on extremities. That falls in line with older victims getting blood clots, and, low oxygen due to iron being detached from blood cells, causing shortness of breath (as with severe anemia) before pneumonia sets in.
Disappearing rye bread. WTF. It is a real search to find it here. Trader Joe’s stopped carrying it. Places that used to have two brands barely have one. Did I miss something?
My scheduled work hours will go from 7-3 every day to 7:15-3:15. They are mailing out new safety guidelines for our return to work. I made this meme for Georgia this morning.
OMG this Trump blather today like watching Archie Bunker without a laugh track.
BiD, our diets are different, but i use the crap out of our Instapot. Great if you like anything pressure cooked.
BB, I’ve never heard a bad word about King Arthur flour. It’s kinda like Martha White was when I was younger and lived in hotter climes. best biscuits I ever made or had were made with Martha White flour.
Poobah, We. All know that SFB hasn’t ad an original thought that worked. Hydro chloroquine can join rump steaks, rump wine, rump water and rump U on the ash heap of trump bad ideas. Fox has to be nervous.

Yep! Pogo, “In the future, I hope that Barr ends up like Nixon’s Attorney General, John Mitchell. In a federal prison.”
This is exactly how I feel about the dictator!
Aside from bathrooms and the break room, I see no distancing issues at my office. We have been downsized so much over the years, that our office is mostly open space.
Is Trump finally going to lose his base?
The spectacularly stupid decision by Trump to encourage states to “re-open,” as most “red state” governors are now doing, may be the “straw that broke the camel’s back” for Trump’s incredibly loyal supporters.
There’s no way Trump can blame this on anyone else when things go wrong. He owns “re-opening” 100%
Trump voters can live undisturbed in a fantasy world about most political issues and their consequences but when people are dropping dead all around them the Fox News BS just won’t work anymore.
Scorched earth…the dictator…it’s what he’s doing. My younger son who lives in Suffolk County, Long Island has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. I assume it’s Covid-19. The following text is from today’s edition of “Oregon Live” the online version of the daily newspaper from Portland, OR.
*****
A new survey shows that Oregonians overwhelming support Governor Kate Brown’s March 23 “Stay at Home” order.
The survey, which polled 900 Oregonians over a period of April 17 to 21, showed that 82% of Oregonians are in favor of the governor’s coronavirus mitigation measures that have shut down much of Oregon since March 23.
“Support is wide and deep. It cuts across geography, political party, and among those most financially harmed by the lockdowns.”
That feeling was strongest in Willamette Valley, where 85% of people support the measures, and in the Portland metro area, where 84% support it. But in the rest state support is also high — 75%.
The positive response to the orders also cuts across party lines. It includes 95% of Democrats in favor, 72% of Republicans and 77% of others.
This is good. Hope it works and has standing!

My hope, as far as the closure of slaughter houses goes, is that folks will have to try meat-free meals for awhile and discover they don’t need it to survive and that it’s more economical. “Game Changers” is a good movie about professional athletes who perform better without it.
Ms 21, I also hope your sons are okay and thriving.
Theoretically one can sue China’s commie party, but the alleged death-dealing dissembling was not done by the party, it was done by the state.
Sue limbaug for promoting chloroquine, too !
How would discovery be handled in such a case? It’s all lies coming out of China. Oh, they are a big customer base for the rest of the world, you say? Not if they stopped stealing intellectual property and manipulating currency.
Folks are getting medical bills for Covid. I thought CARES was supposed to cover testing and treatment, but it’s not. And, how many will not seek help until they get really, really sick, because they are afraid of medical bills? I would be one of them.
