  1. as of an hour ago, atlanta journal constitution:

Democrat Raphael Warnock defeated Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler to become the first Black senator in Georgia history, capturing one of two Georgia runoffs that will decide control of the U.S. Senate and shape Joe Biden’s presidency.
In the other contest, Democrat Jon Ossoff held a narrow but widening lead over U.S. Sen. David Perdue. If Ossoff prevails, Democrats will hold control of Congress when Biden takes office on Jan. 20.
    […]
In his victory speech early Wednesday, Warnock spoke of his unlikely path to the Senate and noted that his mother used to “pick somebody else’s cotton” during her childhood in rural Waycross.
“We were told that we couldn’t win this election. But tonight we proved that with hope, hard work and the people by our side, anything is possible,” Warnock said. “May my story be an inspiration to some young person who is trying to grasp and grab hold to the American dream.”

  3. in re today in D.C.

    wapo:

While President-elect Joe Biden plans an outward show of calm heading into the final major challenge to his election victory, his aides are deploying a behind-the-scenes strategy with Senate allies to derail and marginalize the objections to be raised by rebellious Republican lawmakers.
The Biden camp, led by rival-turned-ally Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), prepared to force the dissenters to debate into the night, hoping to dispose of the challenge as quickly as possible and prevent a days-long ordeal. Klobuchar and her aides also distributed background to Democrats and lined up swing-state lawmakers to speak.
The goal, she said, is to show there is overwhelming support in both parties for accepting the results and rejecting a “coup.”
“The coup-fighters are a group that is bipartisan,” Klobuchar said in an interview. “You use the moment to show that there is still bipartisan support, including people who didn’t support Joe Biden, that they will stand up for a cause larger than themselves.”
    […]
Some allies also ramped up their rhetoric about President Trump’s final days in office, suggesting that Wednesday might not be the last gasp of GOP resistance. Former Delaware governor Jack Markell told MSNBC on Tuesday, “We’re certainly worried about military hostilities that might occur between now and the 20th. Who knows what an angry, illogical president might do with the remaining days in power.”

Not to harsh the Georgia buzz, but what will be going on in the Senate TODAY isn’t a failed coup. It’s PRACTICE. Ask yourself what would be happening if the Republicans had taken the House in November. We’d be living in a dictatorship, right now.

The new normal: Every time a Republican loses the election was “stolen.” Every time a Democrat wins there was “fraud.” Every time the courts don’t back the Republican loser gun-toting Republican White Nationalist evangelicals will threaten elected officials who won’t bow to them.

  5. So, Loeffler does NOT get to vote. Right?

And, Perdue’s term ended Sunday, so he does NOT get to vote, even though that election hasn’t been called yet. Right?

  6. So with 2% of the vote outstanding Osoff’s lead over Perdue is 4,000 votes more than Biden’s lead over Dumbass. Like Bink said last night, gonna be a bunch of angry proud bois in Washington today.

So Mitch gets to watch as Biden’s nominees go through without a problem and all he can do is delay legislation for a brief time. Karma, asshole, karma.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAH

  7. Yes, though ordinarily reticent, I must at this point utter the extremely loud, extended,  and brash Horse-Laugh at Moscow Mitch.
May the fleas of a thousand camels hold a jazz festival in his underwear.
May he be pregnant with toothpicks.  Adios, Fucker.

  8. this gets them where it hurts

    business insider:

Top CEOs are considering cutting off funding to Republicans who have supported Trump’s election challenge, according to Yale’s Jeffrey Sonnenfeld

  9. Yes the “top ceo” crowd doesn’t like a bunch of snot-nosed ass-burgers threatening their tax breaks.

  10. Pogo, yes I see Pence’s moldy ass. Kamala eclipses them all. I can’t wait to see her preside over the Senate as Madam President :0)))))

  11. Trump’s first lie –  This is the largest crowd ever, period! -4 years and  20,000 lies late  – Trump declare that Pence can decertify election results on the congressional floor.

Boy, Mary Trump was right.  Several months ago she said that Donald would stop at NOTHING to win!

  12. Boy, those repubes are dangerous! Thank the gods that there won’t be a dictator for at least 4 years. Dictator Trump could lock up Hillary, Obama, Kemp, Romney and all Mormons, ALL the people he HATES and then change the US name to Trumpland! He could dick around with the internet and block whatever sites he wants. Same with TV and radio. You’d be forced to watch and listen only to TrumpTV. Forget free speech! Think about it.

  13. Koch has said the Republicans need to stop this nonsense.  There goes a whole lot of campaign dollars down the drain.  When Koch, Cheneys and business leaders tell you to shut up, shutting up is probably a good financial decision.

  14. These Trump nuts are all over DC. Streamed past our house all morning on the way to the Mall. A friend suggested we take our Biden-Harris sign out of the window. Not happening!

  15. Ossoff’s lead grows. From Wapo:

    Full results from Georgia

Jon Ossoff (D) leads by 17,169 votes over David Perdue (R) with nearly all of the ballots counted.

    Votes
    Pct.

    Ossoff DEM
    2,211,798
    50.2%

    Perdue GOP
    2,194,629
    49.8

    Ain’t that a shame?

  16. So let’s assume the results stand.  If they do, all the election day bullshit from the RetRUMPlicans (BiD did you coin that term?) sort of goes out the window – RetRUMPS picked up 11 votes in the House but did not gain control and lost 3 seats in the Senate and lost control of the body, and of course, they lost the Presidency.  All in all an excellent result for Dems. BTW, on a percentage basis, the RetRUMP losses in the Senate (3%) are greater than the gains in the House (2.5%).

  17. I wonder if McConnell has second thoughts about his admonitions to RetRUMP senators to stay away from objecting to states’ electors now that his status in the Senate is about to change to Minority Leader?

  18. Trump rally speech approaching two hours, I think he’s going to keep talking as Congress votes. About 8 times he’s called for Pence to “do the right thing” and overturn the election. He is setting Pence up as the fall guy to his supporters.

  19. …tried to listen to this rally but the lies and yammering are hurting my ear-holes.

Tell it to the judge, dipshit

  20. i owe you a hat, Mr. S, but all i do in pandemic is work, and cook, and clean, and clean, and clean, then cook😭

  21. Where is the call for “law and order” to quiet the fascist idiots following tRUMPsky to the bottom of the hellmouth?

Rudee is exposing himself (no, not like that) to charges of inciting a riot, isn’t he?

  22. Not seeing many masks in the clips I’ve seen.  I did see a mullet and a lot of skin heads.  How do we deprogram them?  They are living in an alternate universe.

  23. Mary Trump said the same thing about Republicans that KO said.  This is practice. This is a dress rehearsal.

  24. Steve Scalise. T party hack and asshole.  The two most important items to being a gooper leader

  25. Who had idiots invade Capitol to take over the U.S. on their bingo card?  One representative said she has heard gunshots in the building.  I am sure she was not in the Capitol, but in the office building.  This should turn out well for the Republicans.  Also, it seems the cell phones have been jammed so the reporters cannot give up to the minute briefings.  Just another last gasp of the ‘vangical white supremacists.  I also expect that SFB will try to pardon any of the terrorists if they are arrested.

  26. So,  I’ve been invited to appear on a Salida radio show talking about The Tennessee Pass.
Now, back to the “Brown Shirts” attacking the Reichstag.

  27. Well, this is what tyranny looks like. Let me get this straight. Even I knew this could happen, and the folks in charge in Washington didn’t take steps to prevent this ahead of time?  Really?  The repubes strike again?
Can’t ya see Trump sitting on his fat ass & laughing his God damned, fat  ass off?

And so, this sets a precedent for the future.  repubes are to blame!

  28. You can be very sure that if the situation were in reverse, the repubes would have had the guard, army and everyone surrounding the capital just like when trump went to that church.

  29. Things will be getting a bit messy now:

    Norah O’Donnell
    Flag of United States

    @NorahODonnell

BREAKING: Members of Congress are in lockdown and are being told to get under their chairs. There is tear gas in the rotunda, per
    @benstracy

  30. It’s all over cable live.  I’ll tell ya what, get out one of dem AK’s that the repubes love so much and mow the bastards down.  Then drag that fat, seditious  pig away from his TVs, and do what Bannon, et al. suggested, behead him, Gomert,  Cruze, et, al and put their heads on a pike in from of the WH and congress.   That’s what was suggested for poor, old Dr, Fauci, no?  That’d make a statement. We want democracy not fascism! And if that’s what it takes to take this country back, so be it.

  31. This reminds me of the 1968 convention in Chicago.  The Democrats were left in the weeds for a few election after that.  Now it’s the Republicans turn.

  32. Bink, death throes of the suicide cult, I hope so.

Why are the repubes hiding under their desks?  These anarchists are THEIR people, no??

  33. Poor Georgia what Trump did to the GOP there reminds me of Sherman , “I intend to make Georgia howl”
Flipped 2 seats , first black man from Georgia elected to the senate.
    Nice job there sport.

  34. In other news, Ossoff’s lead continues to increase.
    Full results from Georgia

Jon Ossoff (D) leads by 18,423 votes over David Perdue (R) with nearly all of the ballots counted.

    Votes

    No moss on that stone.

  35. There’s more coverage on CBC, EuroNews, and Sky than on Fox or NewsMax or Newsy.  I’ve been surfing those channels.

Foreigners are saying wasn’t this expected?  Yeah, really.  Quelle surprise.

  36. Leadership, Dumbass style.

Trump tweets ‘stay peaceful’ after supporters breach Capitol
    By Julie Zauzmer

President Trump, who repeatedly urged his supporters gathered on the Ellipse earlier today to march to the U.S. Capitol to demand that Congress overturn the election, tweeted a call to “stay peaceful” as some of those supporters broke into the Capitol building.

U.S. Capitol Police were unable to hold back throngs outside the building, some of whom pushed their way inside. With the House and Senate on lockdown inside the building, Trump asked for “support” for the police force trying to maintain order.

Acting deputy secretary of homeland security Ken Cuccinelli also called for calm.

  37. You people will have to tell me, tomorrow, how this is playing with the average Mom and Pop Republican on Facebook.  i can’t imagine they’re enthusiastic

  38. Bink

My super conservative Trump supporting cousin is making every excuse in the book … i.e. capitol police let them in. All while arguing that the “evidence” about the voting fraud in many states hasn’t been heard.  She is getting more and more upset by not being able to defend the behavior, but can’t let go of the Trump lies and MAGA claims.

  39. Well Jesus has come to CBS.
That interview with Kevin McCarthy  is gut wrenching.  He helped to build the monster, and now he’s afraid because the thing is loose in the village , and throwing little girls down wells.
Nora said it was the most amazing interview she had ever done.  He was really whining, and he was scared.

  40. President Biden gave a great speech.  It was literate and powerful and emotional.

Maryland and Virginia have sent teams and are sending hundreds more police to the Capitol.  Hopefully the interior police are arresting terrorists and collecting them in a room by now.  They have to clear the building and it does not have to be pretty.

  41. Sooooo, when will Ossoff be sworn in? AS soon as Raffensperger and Kemp certify Georgia results?  How about tonight?

  42. Ossoff is a documentary  film guy.
The state of Georgia has just sent a black preacher  from MLK’s home church , and a skinny young nerd film maker to the US senate.
Gone With the Wind …………   Is truly gone with the wind , it took us 156 years but it finally came.

  43. Wow,
National Association of Manufacturers: “The outgoing president incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution ..”

  44. A hold should be placed on sfb’s last paycheck he should be sued for the cost of the riot

  45. Bobble-head must know by now that his future is selling day old hot dogs in a gas station.  He can be president of the U.S. not just the Senate.  He can do it starting now. 25-45 and be 46, let Biden be 47.

  46. Every one of those MF-ers should be stripped of their citizenship.  Ship them to Rusher if they want to live under a dictator.  Idiots!

  47. It has been a weird 24 hrs even for these times.
Georgia elected a black and a Jew to the Senate and terrorists supported by the US President attack and invade the Capital
Can’t wait for the next 24.
    Jack

  48. I am listening to Gershwin, the GOP dumpster fire  is  out of control , and Biden has got the Senate.  And a black young woman is about to be front and center there.
This is the final boil on the butt of America that Berry Goldwater infected, us with .
That reasoning that extremism is no vice , in the name of “freedom”.
And when the Newt, and Rush showed-up and turned it into a cash-cow.
We were off to the races.
Little wonder a grifting mob would take over  the entire  operation , and burn it down on their way out the door.
2020 just turned  21  , and can now drink legally.

  49. Shit getting real in DC.  Whoever said it reminded them of 1968 Chicago was right. Maybe should make it more like Birmingham – dogs and fire hoses.

  50. My first political move was getting one of the poll markers at my grade school.  “No Electioneering Beyond This Point ! ”
    On it I wrote –
“We had an election between Kenney, and Nixon ……. Kennedy Won”.
Life is is a funny ole’ dog

  51. Chicago ’68 was the cops, led by Daly, attacking protestors (real protestors).  This attack on the Capitol was led by the head of the U.S.  Somehow, someway, someone had to have ordered the Capitol protection to be removed.

  52. Pogo… that was me.  I was 14 yrs old in 1968…  and those images are seared in my brain.  One can only imagine what today’s youth are thinking about this shit.

  53. The domestic-terrorists-for-tRUMPsky should lose their jobs, their US passports, their driver’s licenses, their Social Security benefits…and for those terrorists who are elected members of Congress, their seats!

  54. BB, I was just referring to the scene – it’s reminiscent o f’68.  Not suggesting the Capitol police are doing anything wrong.  I will say that this is America under Trump.

Asswipe Hawley said they needed to get back to work – stupidmotherfucker.

  55. Sadly, I work with several who support this mess and probably wish they could’ve taken part in it.

  56. This is White privilege.  Can you imagine if BLM protestors had breached the Capitol building?  Round up those skinheads and charge them!

  57. And as all this is running ……….
The entire EMT fleet in LA County is running under guidelines , that instruct them to not transport  people they believe will not survive their illness or wounds.

    Make America Sane Again.
