Sanders Screwed By Iowa

Maybe Bernie should have become a Democrat. I don’t buy the technical excuses by Iowa Democratic Party for failing to report Iowa results. Well played Iowa Democratic Party, fell on your sword instead of reporting a Sanders victory.

Biden campaign letter pointedly demands results should not be released without answers. And by the time that happens no one will care. (Mayor Pete also screwed, that’s a two-fer for Biden).

So to recap, Des Moines Register spiked its poll and Iowa Democratic Party spiked its caucuses. All that fried butter for nothing.

  1. Oh my goddess, you really aren’t going to take up that tired lament are you?!  It was bad enough that on the eve of the election you posted you” were almost going to miss trump”  but this is over the pale.  Poor Mistreated Bernie. So by the looks of this post it appears you’re gonna do your part to give us another 4 years of treasonous trump.

  2. Hi, OSH,

i’ve been giving CC shit over his 2016 punditry for 3 straight years, i promise you, it was enough, i’m a huge asshole that way.

He also has expressed contrition FWIW, you just weren’t here to read it.

  3. How many good candidates were lost and how many millions upon millions of dollars and thousands and thousands of volunteer hours wasted trying to campaign to Iowans?  A real shame, and now the entire party looks inept.

  4. Who were the few, brave souls who voted against Trumpsky in the Repug’s public forum last night?   Right in the faces of their neighbors.   Good on you!
It’s odd that everyone NBC spoke with on air seemed to be for everyone except Biden and Bernie.  Most seemed to be for Pete.
I guess we don’t just need to worry about only foreign interference in our elections.

  5. You’re misreading him, OSH.  CC is belittling Bernie and is a frequent critic of him.

His unfounded conspiracy theory is bullshit, to be fair.

Also, you may want to start warming up to the idea of Bernie as your nominee.

  6. Pete exposed himself as a dope by declaring victory before any results were announced.  See you in South Bend, Pete.

  7. OSH, nice to see you poking in.

Bernie got screwed?  What, the Democratic Socialist party didn’t release its caucus results?

The party looks inept?  How about the Iowa Democratic Party looks inept? They are. Stupid process incompetently run.

  8. Hi Bink Good for you, he deserved it.  I was so disappointed and disgusted  I couldn’t even look for some time.  But I receive the emails. This particular title woke the dead!

  9. ”The party looks inept?  How about the Iowa Democratic Party looks inept?”

You think John and Jane Q Public know the difference?

  10. renee, in the same way GOPers skewed the Iowa caucuses by showing up for Bernie (see Jamie comment above), is it likely they will do the same by switching parties for the NH primary in order to give IMpotus his preferred challenger?

  11. Mayor Pete is releasing his internal numbers for last night. If they are correct, he had a winning night and more than a few twitter pundits owe him an apology.

  12. Bink, Michael Beschloss put it pretty well that (the SFB campaign message that the dems con’t run a caucus but they want to run the health care system) That may work for some Trump voters.  I can’t speak for JQPublic, but my inclination is that it may work for some Bernie! supporters as well if he does not get the nomination, at least some of them may use that as an excuse.

    Patd, yes.

Jack, I saw the full slate of Buttigieg internal numbers this morning – it would not shock me if they are pretty close. That is clearly a big win for him if those numbers hold.

  13. Hi OSH!  Still have a bit of your luscious chocolate left over from Xmas.

patd….   if one is registered in either party, it’s too late to switch your affiliation.  But most NHers are registered as undeclared…  they can choose which ballot they want to take.  A few repugs will take Dem ballots to screw things up….  but not enough to really make a difference.   But I predict Bernie will win this state regardless.  He won it last time by 20 points.

  14. And why do I suspect that in addition to having a winning night(exceeded expectations) he may have won it all? Except for the whining from team Biden, total crickets from the top contenders. They no doubt have similar or better numbers.
    Jack

  15. I have to think that someone was doing (who wasn’t supposed to) that all of their brains froze – or the Ukrainians got involved (;0))

  16. Rick and I chose to watch a Celtic game last night.  We figured the results wouldn’t be ready in Iowa until sometime after the game.  It was a very hard fought exciting basketball game… the Celtics won.  So glad we made that choice now.

I say fuck Iowa…  fuck the caucus process…   and most importantly…   fuck Bernie Sanders!

  17. So I’m over at Wapo reading that Durbin and Howard Dean both are calling for an end to the Iowa caucuses. I agree with all those who say it’s time for Iowa caucuses to be put out to pasture.  If the Iowa Democratic party wants to hold onto its idiotic process, relegate them to Super Tuesday so no one will give a crap that their system is a joke.

    Renee, hell yes.

Jack, I’m ready for a fruit basket turnover regarding the 1st 4 contests. Someone on Morning Joe suggested that a Michigan or Wisconsin be given first primary honors – both are diverse, have pockets of traditional Democratic support (unions and black voters – OK I’m being redundant a little) and would be a much better early indicator of the strength of the candidates on the front end of the process. Plus they are traditionally Dem or largely Dem leaning in the general election, 2016 notwithstanding. Makes good sense to me.

  18. From my sister, the computer programmer.
It is Murphy again.  “Any application that can fail will fail and at the worst time with catastrophic results”

  19. one excuse for not putting hand over his heart might be because he hasn’t one.

#caughtoncamera As Demi Lovato performs the National Anthem, Donald Trump can be seen miming orchestral director hands while those, including his family, stand in honor. Please keep in mind that he expected football players to honor the flag or lose their job.

  20. Well the freezing rain turned to sleet, turned to snow, I need to get some gas for the snowblower so the snow doesn’t get too high. The best way to prevent a major snow event is to be prepared. Procrastinator that I am I have suffered through many a blizzard.
    So I’m out the door.

  21. Biden’s rivals putting out numbers he had a horrible night in Iowa. He was already in trouble with fundraising. Looks to me like we have to consider this race without Biden. And Bloomberg is very happy.

  22. Dems should start talking about the how the booming economy is being paid for by the deficit
and cutting medicare and social security is not the answer.

  23. Joe won’t drop out until he’s broke. If he’s got enough money to compete to ST and does well between now and then he’ll have the funds to continue after that. If not, que sera.

  24. Hi, Sea! Wonderful seeing you emerging unto the shore this morning. The youngster of the crowd, Pete, is my favorite. There is only one in the fray that I reject out-of-hand. That is the individual who cost our nominated candidate the election last cycle. Damned Trump.

  25. Sea
Welcome back, and here I was drinking my morning coffee out of an Enchanted Chocolates mug. I rarely use it but My regular coffee mugs were either dirty or out in the shop. I keep it on the shelf because  it always brings back good memories. Good to see you.
    Jack

  26. Technical glitch.

This cycle is not the first time Iowa Democrats have used a mobile app to relay precinct-by-precinct results. In 2016, they used a mobile app built by Microsoft.

“It worked just fine,” said Andy McGuire, who was the state party’s chairwoman.

So of course replace it.  Idiots.

  27. Sea, wish I didn’t have to piss you off to bring you back, but I’ll take it. One more time: I deeply regret my views in 2016 not supporting Hillary. No excuses, just stupid. Taking that one to my grave.

  28. Who leaked the tape of SFB acting like a buffoon during the national anthem?  I’d like to send a thank you card.  Why did they cut it off just when the giant, orange ass was pulling up a chair to sit while the anthem was still playing?

  29. All of us golden-age of sci-fi readers know corporations eventually rule humanity, we’re just here to see it happen.

  30. Bloomie’s strategy is to sabotage early states and wait for March 3d Super Tuesday where just today he ordered a doubling of ads and staff. Picks Warren as running mate.

  31. What about Joe/Pete getting along well?  Can’t imagine Pete considering bringing Joe on board.  Heard early yesterday pre caucusgate

  32. The caucuses aren’t a mess — just the reporting.  People need to chillax.  It’s just one more day.  Plenty of witnesses and paper trails.

    #GoodbyeJoe

  33. If the early IA caucus goes own, there will be no possibility of an Amy, Kamala or Corey getting a party nomination ever again. The choices will then be between lepidus, crassus, and caesar. The victory of caesar leads to caligula, nero, and domitian.

Political parties are private non-profit corporations. If anyone, they belong to those who do the work. If the opinions of those workers are dissed, the parties will be replaced by wealthy conmen and their ad agencies or mega multinational corporations and their ad agencies.

Remember, mega multinational corporations are persons, and their spending is free speech, even when it is anonymous for the sake of brand safety. The caucus is the last place where actuality (rather than tele-illusion, cyber-delusion and secret rulers) is still the rule.
