  1. the robin hood analogy last month from Sen. Warnock

Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock sympathizes with soul-weary Americans who have been through a lot in recent decades, and he condemns the Republican-led Congress for pushing a budget plan that will serve to enrich this country’s billionaires. “We’re in This Together: Leo’s Lunch Box” is available everywhere next Tuesday.

  2. and one from stephen last night

We’re learning details about the ridiculous birthday parade President Trump is throwing for himself, the “big beautiful” Republican budget aims to strip healthcare and food assistance from America’s neediest children, and a candidate for state office in Virginia came out as ethically nonmonogamous.

Hawley: Big Medicaid cuts ‘morally wrong and politically suicidal’
“We must ignore calls to cut Medicaid and start delivering on America’s promise for America’s working people,” the Missouri Republican senator wrote.
Sen. Josh Hawley is warning his own party’s push to overhaul Medicaid could be politically perilous, just hours after House Republicans revealed a major plan to do so that could lead to millions losing coverage.
“A noisy contingent of corporatist Republicans — call it the party’s Wall Street wing — is urging Congress to ignore all that and get back to the old-time religion: corporate giveaways, preferences for capital and deep cuts to social insurance,” Hawley, a Missouri Republican, said in a New York Times op-ed Monday. “This wing of the party wants Republicans to build our big, beautiful bill around slashing health insurance for the working poor. But that argument is both morally wrong and politically suicidal.”

and so does West Va’s senator according to

“We don’t want to hurt them in any way but absolutely, what we don’t want to do is completely run this whole country right off the cliff. Then everybody loses,” U.S. Sen. Jim Justice said.

  4. Craig,
bad weather expected today and especially bad tonight in these parts. soooo might not be able to post a new thread tomorrow. good time to come up with another scintillating lazy man cook show for the Trail’s enjoyment.

  5. “The poor” are now noticing they’re getting poorer, and even the “not quite poor” are getting that way. Dodo is taking money from people who need it and giving it all to them that don’t. Including chiefly himself.

The Dems need pitches and slogans to make sure these folks all know exactly where their money has gone. Dodo is running an ad that falsely claims things are better now. Sure, but for who?

  6. Wine-braised beef short ribs feel fancy, but they’re stupid-easy and not as pricey as steak.
Make your kitchen smell like you know what you’re doing—even if you don’t.

  7. LOL. The delusion is strong in that one. We’ll see who’s hot and who’s not when she drops her next album and tours it, compared to dumbass’ rallies while she’s touring. BTW, has he looked in a mirror lately?

  8. It is not possible to keep up with the demented and delusional babbling of sfb. Hourly there is something more off than the previous hour. The pressure of constantly being on stage along with demensia, and possibly Alzheimer’s, getting worse every day is turning mush into hammered horse apples in a blender.
The best part is he is doing it live and in person. I cannot imagine what the leaders of each country are saying in private; keeping diplomatic protocol alive. The laughter must be deep.

Through it all krasnov must think he is the best king to ever show up at their doors.

I just did a bit of googling, as Taylor Swift is not something I pay attention to. What I know of her is just stuff absorbed through the air. But her latest album was released a year ago and it is still in Billboards top 20 for record sales this week. I would say she is still fairly hot.

I loved the George Jones with the flattop haircut you posted yesterday.
Here is Willie from about the same time, It makes you realize just how long Willie has been around.
BTW, Willie is back on the road again at 92. Somebody has put a youtube version of his set list, here

  11. We were aware of Willie way back yonder….we watched all those country tv shows and then also we knew him as a songwriter from Patsy Cline, Ray Price and other hit makers. Willie always been right there in the thick of things.

But he didn’t coin that phrase 3 chords and the truth, Willie was just quoting Billy Joe Shaver on that one.

  12. As an aside:
There was a time around here back then when there weren’t no “country” radio stations, “rock” stations….there was just two or 3 stations and the record makers had to duke it out for air play, basically ALL the records were coming over the same station.

Love the counter-programming going on for June 14th. Wish I could go to this one, but I’m not getting on a plane. Still wonder if Elon’s StinkLink 🦨 is causing the outages in Denver, Atlanta, NJ…

Someone suggested all of the pride parades should be that day, too.

Since Juneteenth is the middle of the week, maybe back up that celebration to the 14th, as.

Back when Willie was making his outlaw comeback, My sister , not a Willie fan said. “All he does is sing all those old songs.” I laughed and told her “thats because he wrote all those old songs.” A look at that set list I posted makes me realise just how much Willie has been part of my musical listening life. From back when I was a child listening with my father to the Grand Old Opry on the radio, It has been a few years,

  15. https://www.newsweek.com/republican-budget-bill-falters-despite-donald-trump-pressure-2073357

Facing pressure from President Donald Trump, House Republicans failed to pass their sweeping tax and spending package Friday morning.

The president posted on Truth Social Friday morning, “Republicans MUST UNITE behind, “THE ONE, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!” Not only does it cut Taxes for ALL Americans, but it will kick millions of Illegal Aliens off Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in real need. The Country will suffer greatly without this Legislation, with their Taxes going up 65%. It will be blamed on the Democrats, but that doesn’t help our Voters. We don’t need “GRANDSTANDERS” in the Republican Party. STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE! It is time to fix the MESS that Biden and the Democrats gave us. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

*So much bullsh/t in his rant…and there ARE spines in the Republican Party.

Call your Rep! Thank the Dems for fighting. Encourage the Reps to have courage to protect their constituents, because the fight continues.

  16. There was a theory being bandied about by a few ne’er-do-wells who get kicks from bandying things about back in Nashville at a certain time that there was a kind of cahoots thing going on to keep young Willie from achieving a hit record cause they were afraid that he’d begin to keep all his song writing for himself.
Those guys was making a bundle off Willie songs.

  17. BiD, a song for those fearless five GOPers

“I Saw the Light” is a country gospel song written by Hank Williams. Williams was inspired to write the song while returning from a concert by a remark his mother made while they were arriving in Montgomery, Alabama. He recorded the song during his first session for MGM Records, and released it in September 1948. Williams’ version did not enjoy major success during its initial release, but eventually it became one of his most popular songs and the closing number for his live shows. It was soon covered by other acts, and has become a country gospel standard.

  18. patD – My glee was fleeting. These five bastards want more!

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/house-budget-committee-reconciliation-gop-opposition/

Five Republicans — Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma and Andrew Clyde of Georgia — voted against advancing the legislation on Friday when the Budget Committee met to merge the various parts of the reconciliation package that have been produced by other committees into a single bill.

Conservatives said the legislation does not go far enough to slash federal spending. Among the demands conservative members have made are moving up the work requirements for Medicaid recipients without disabilities and children. The requirements would not set in until 2029 under the current bill and conservatives want them to kick in as soon as the legislation becomes law.

“This bill falls profoundly short. It does not do what we say it does with respect to deficits,” Roy said during the meeting, adding that “this bill has back-loaded savings and has front-loaded spending.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has remained committed to putting the legislation, which would extend tax cuts from Mr. Trump’s first term while temporarily enacting new ones, on the floor before Memorial Day despite the disagreements between some factions in his party. The tax measures, as well as increased spending on the military and border security, would be offset partly by cuts to Medicaid, food stamps and clean energy subsidies.

*Just call Republican Representatives and ask them why they insist on being such miserable SOBs.

  19. In case it wasn’t clear, that light the 5 Repugz saw was a campfire in the pit of hell.

They want cuts to go deeper.

They want changes like work requirements to start now, instead of 2029.

  20. Ivy, in my case I’m pretty sure it’s the computer. Probably about time to reset the barracuda server. I’m not having any problems getting onto the side or posting from my phone.

  21. i found mycorrhizae at the fancy nursery, so my root systems are rather symbiotic at the moment, so that’s nice 😊

  22. Interesting. My phone connects through home or office WiFi. Let’s take office- it’s the WiFi router that runs through the same router our computers run through. Hardwired computer won’t connect, WiFi connected phone will. Go figure.
