46 thoughts on “Republicans Filibuster Your Right To Vote”

  1. Headline on every real news channel:  REPUBLICANS ARE AFRAID OF VOTERS

They know their days are numbered.  All they have are dirty tricks.

  2. It’s time for a presidential commission on the Republican-led insurrection of January 6th.

    Play hardball!

Either voters get to vote or the world gets all of the dirty details of how Republicans attempted to violently overthrow the government.

ps – Republicans are still trying to overthrow our democracy. They’re doing it by prohibiting us from voting.

  3. Stoopidmuthahfuckers.

    I.HATE.REPUBLICANS.

They are willing to fuckup what is a decent government to prevent Democrats from having any real legislative victories under Biden.

ok, Poobah, what’s your take on what Democrats should do re: the filibuster?

  4. So riddle me this. When have we heard Repuklikans try to defend their anti-democratic positions by invoking states rights?  Extra credit for the most prominent proponent of the states rights HORSE SHIT.

  5. POTUS Joe needs to call a presidential committee to investigate the Republican-led insurrection of Jan 6th.    If Moscow Mitch and the GQP want to eff with our democracy, go after the unpatriotic monsters.

  6. They didn’t block the bill, they blocked debate on the bill. It may seem like a minor point but they are scared to even talk about it.

  7. Republicans scream about voter suppression (their lie about 2020), but they are the ones trying to suppress the vote.
I still think it’s time to play hardball and start an investigation in 1/6.    They will give no ground to Dems, so let’s play hardball.

  8. BiD, sorry, someone jumped the gun on that according to the hill

The Democrats’ investigative strategy surrounding the Capitol attack of Jan. 6 was thrown into confusion on Tuesday night after party sources mistakenly reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was forming a select committee to probe the violent episode.
Pelosi, stepping out of her office in the Capitol, rejected that version of events out of hand.
“No, I did not make that announcement,” Pelosi said. “Somebody put out a false report.”
    […]
Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill later clarified that Pelosi had not landed on a final verdict but had only floated the select committee as among the options on the table.
“Speaker Pelosi told Members she plans to announce WHETHER she will create a select committee THIS WEEK,” Hammill tweeted. “Her preference continues to be a bipartisan commission which Senate Republicans are blocking.”

  9. The Daily Beast says that in 2019 Donald Trump wanted to investigate Jimmy for making fun of him, Trump is apparently still running for President, we learned that between March of last year and March this year 881 Secret Service employees tested positive for COVID, a map was released of the most misspelled words in each state, and since an LA based marijuana delivery company is looking for an intern to test out their products, Jimmy got in touch with our good friend Freddie the Stoner to help him interview for the job.

stephen also commented on this according to NYtimes best of late night:

“Folks, this is dangerous, disturbing, un-American — and why do I get lumped in with ‘other comedy mischief-makers’? I don’t get it! What’s a guy gotta do? All due respect to my dear friend James Tiberius Kimmel, but if the D.O.J. thugs are kicking down doors to round up the late-night chuckleheads to drag us off to Mar-a-Gulago to be assassinated, I should get more than ‘and the rest.’ I do not appreciate the ‘Mary Ann and Professor’ treatment here!” — STEPHEN COLBERT
“It’s strange. There has not been a presidential overreaction like this since Nixon sent Navy SEALs to assassinate the Smothers Brothers.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

  10. Why did someone put out a “false report” about investigating Jan 6th?   Maybe to put the fear of a god that Republicans only claim to believe in into the loathsome, unpatriotic, voter-suppressing, lying bastards?

Maybe this is the message: Give us voting rights and infrastructure and we won’t show the world the part that sitting members of Congress (Republicans) had in the violent and deadly insurrection on Jan 6th. Everyone already knows Orange Adolf’s part in it. Even the white, domestic terrorists blamed him when taken into custody.

  11. The GOP started down the racist road in 1968. In 50+ years, they might as well wear Klan robes instead of suits to work.

  12. Why do we still listen?  Yesterday WaPo Fact Checker did a review of Former’s claimof voter fraud in Georgia.  The result – four Pinocchios for Former.

“Thank you and congratulations to Laura Baigert of the Georgia Star News on the incredible reporting you have done. Keep going! The scam is all unraveling fast.”

    — Former president Donald Trump, in a statement, June 17

False and misleading claims that cast doubt on Georgia’s 2020 election results continue to pop up seven months after the vote, and Trump keeps promoting them.

We have a high bar for fact-checking the former president these days, but this claim about an election “scam” in the Atlanta area carries weight. The state launched an investigation based on the same reports Trump is referencing from a website called the Georgia Star News.

But there is no evidence of a scam unraveling in Georgia, only shoddy record-keeping by local election officials.

After the state conducted a hand recount of its election results in November, Biden’s lead dropped from 12,670 to 11,779, apparently from a revision in Fulton County. The recount showed 880 fewer votes there.

Gabriel Sterling, a state elections official in Georgia, called the Fulton County discrepancy “a little worrisome” but said it was a big county with a history of managerial issues. He also noted the difference in vote totals was not enough to change the outcome in Georgia, according to the Associated Press.

    The Pinocchio Test

Despite Trump’s latest claim, there is no evidence of an election “scam” unraveling in Georgia.

In response to a request for public records made by a pro-Trump website, Fulton County officials failed to supply all the forms that track the movements of ballots submitted by drop box.

A Fulton County official acknowledged that the chain-of-custody records it provided to the Georgia Star News were incomplete. Days later, Fulton County provided almost all the records to Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Sloppy? Yes. But shoddy record-keeping by itself does not constitute evidence of election fraud.

We will keep a close watch on developments in Raffensperger’s investigation, and it bears keeping in mind that Fulton County has a history of election management issues, including an audit that found problems with keeping chain-of-custody records for ballots in last year’s election at the same time that it affirmed election workers’ integrity.

For now, without evidence to justify accusations of an election “scam” in Fulton County, Trump earns Four Pinocchios.

And yet – a third of the country still thinks the election was stolen   …  because Former says so.

  13. Wapo – SCOTUS agrees with cheerleader that she could not be disciplined for profanity laced weekend social media posts because the supposedly violated school policy.

Breaking news: Supreme Court sides with high school cheerleader in free-speech dispute over off-campus social media rant

Brandi Levy was kicked off her high school JV cheer squad by administrators who said her Snapchat missive sent to friends — “F— school, f— softball, f— cheer, f— everything.” — violated policy. A lower court had said school officials had no authority over speech that occurred off-campus and on a weekend.

I don’t think this will become a landmark free speech case.

  14. Craig,

No mystery to Jared & Ivanka moving away from Trump.  His father spent jail time due to real estate shenanigans and they could still get caught up in the Trump property tax problems not to mention all the global stuff Jared supposedly spearheaded up to and including the khashoggi murder.

Even if the NY authorities don’t want to charge them, there is still a chance the DoJ might.

  15. Jamie – Good vibes to the kitty.  Are you feeling better?

No sorrow for JarJar and Ivanker’s predicament with Orange Adolf. They are worried for themselves and their future political ambitions.

  16. significant start.  dominos will now begin to flip and fall.

    CNN:

Washington (CNN)An alleged member of the Oath Keepers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges related to the January 6 insurrection, the first plea deal among the Capitol riot cases against extremist groups.
Graydon Young, a 54-year-old from Florida who went by “GenXPatriot,” is charged in a 16-person conspiracy case alleging members of the Oath Keepers plotted to carry out the January 6 insurrection.
It is the first guilty plea among any defendants in the major Capitol riot conspiracy cases and is a significant development as investigators continue to pursue leads on extremist groups that they believe planned for an armed attack to help then-President Donald Trump and stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election.
    […]
His plea deal factors in that the conspiracy involved extensive planning in scope and preparation, a major coup for prosecutors to secure as they continue to investigate the Oath Keepers stationing guns around the Capitol and coordinating their movements to attack Congress.

  17. wapo:

Army Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, admonished lawmakers over questions about critical race theory at a Wednesday hearing, saying it is important for leaders to be well-versed in many schools of thought.
“I’ve read Karl Marx. I’ve read Lenin. That doesn’t make me a communist,” Milley told the House Armed Services Committee. “So what is wrong with understanding … the country which we are here to defend?”
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) criticized reports that the U.S. Military Academy teaches a course involving the theory, which broadly explores the idea that racism reaches beyond individual prejudice and affects minorities at the institutional level, particularly in criminal justice.
The course at the academy includes phrases such as “White rage,” Waltz claimed, and he pressed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the nation’s first Black Pentagon chief, to investigate further.
Soon after, when the committee gave Milley a chance to expand, he launched into an impassioned defense of inquiry about U.S. society and its racial dynamics.
“I want to understand White rage. And I’m White,” Milley said, focused on learning more about the mostly White, mostly male mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.
“What is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America. What caused that?” Milley asked. “I want to find that out.”
Milley said he was offended that critics, among them lawmakers and right-wing commentators like Fox News host Tucker Carlson, have accused the military of being “woke or something else because we’re studying some theories that are out there.”

  18. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/06/23/texas-greg-abbott-border-wall/

“A governor should not be able to circumvent the legislative process by declaring such matters to be emergencies and then implementing whatever measures he wishes,” Turner said in a statement. “If a governor can commence such a long-term, multi-hundred-million-dollar public works project under the cover of emergency powers, it is difficult to know what the limits of those powers are.”

Texas border wall project receives over $450K in donations, a week after Gov. Greg Abbott announced plans

“Over the span of about a week, Texas received $459,000 in private donations for the state’s planned wall at the southern border…”

It looks the rich rednecks who don’t pay taxes have money to fund Greg’s wall.

  19. BTW, today is midsummer eve, but in sweden and other parts of the eu it’s a big week – weekend occasion.
