  1. speaking of walls and their worth, last night on 60 minutes segment “Daniel Barenboim tries bridging the Middle East conflict with music” the maestro

[BTW “At 75, he’s still at it and he’s embarked on a second act: starting his own orchestra for young musicians from Israel and the Muslim world and taking on a subject that’s as contentious as it gets: the conflict in the Middle East. His work has earned him Palestinian citizenship and charges of treachery from some of his fellow Israelis.”]

had this to say about a particular wall:

Last summer, Barenboim took us to a fault line in the Middle East conflict, the Palestinian city of Ramallah on the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where he has another musical project. It’s just a few miles from Jerusalem, but sealed off behind a long security wall that snakes its way across the Palestinian countryside.
Daniel Barenboim: The occupation is horrific for the Palestinians, but it’s not good for Israel.
Those can be provocative words in Israel. But Barenboim goes even further, after years trying to build bridges here, he says the wall only serves to deceive.
Holly Williams: I mean this makes many Israelis feel safe in their own homes.
Daniel Barenboim: But they’re not. They’re not.
Holly Williams: So it’s a lie?
Daniel Barenboim: Well, I wouldn’t say it’s a lie. It’s a make-believe. It’s a make-believe. Israel will have full security when there is justice for the Palestinians.

  2. Trumpsky’s tweets following something Faux aired using old file footage, well, it’s like talking to my elderly relatives in the left coast who get their ~news~ from that outlet.

Does Put-ey control Fox?  Fox seems to be Trumpsky’s trigger.

  3. Love Shandling’s dry humor.  I’ve always said (at least since SFB started talking about a wall) show me a 20′ wall and I’ll show you a 21′ ladder.  (And if that doesn’t work, there’s always the shovel.)

John Oliver Slams “Brainwashed Cult” Sinclair Broadcast Group—Again
John Oliver has just one day per week to handle the firehose of news pouring out of the Trump White House. But even so, he took time on Sunday night to follow up on the conservative-run Sinclair Broadcasting Group, a TV empire that Oliver likens to “a brainwashed cult.”
Over the weekend, the telecommunications company became the subject of ire once more thanks to a pre-written script that’s made its way into Sinclair broadcasts. Across the country, Sinclair has been prompting its anchors to record a promo that includes this leading claim: “The sharing of biased and false news has become all too common on social media. More alarming, some media outlets publish these same fake stories—stories that just aren’t true—without checking facts first. Unfortunately, some members of the media use their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control exactly what people think. This is extremely dangerous to a democracy.”
As Oliver put it Sunday night, “Nothing says ‘we value independent media’ like dozens of reporters forced to repeat the same message over and over again like a brainwashed cult.”
    […]
The pre-written statement anchors have read this month is “creepy enough,” Oliver said Sunday night, “but when you see just how many local stations were forced to read it, and you watch them together, as many have been doing online in the last couple of days, you begin to realize the true effect of Sinclair’s reach and power.” Evidently, it’s not just creeping Oliver out either; several celebrities have expressed their concerns about the company. Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, Kumail Nanjiani,, and more have all tweeted their dismay, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alyssa Milano, Patton Oswalt, and others have taken things further with the hashtag #BoycottSinclair.

  5. @realDonaldTrump
DACA is dead because the Democrats didn’t care or act, and now everyone wants to get onto the DACA bandwagon… No longer works. Must build Wall and secure our borders with proper Border legislation. Democrats want No Borders, hence drugs and crime!
    7:17 AM – Apr 2, 2018

however, here are pertinent dates (and really what happened, twit) on the wall-for-daca deal

from Sioux city journal: A timeline of DACA

    offers Trump has rejected

    […]

January 11: After months of meetings, Democrat Dick Durbin and Republican Lindsey Graham go to the White House to propose to Trump a compromise worked out by their group of six bipartisan senators. The offer includes a path to citizenship for eligible young immigrants, the first year of Trump’s border wall funding, ending the diversity visa lottery and reallocating those visas, and restricting the ability of former DACA recipients to sponsor family.

Trump and the White House invite hardline Republicans to the meeting and he rejects the deal, making his now-infamous “shithole countries” comment in the process.

January 19: House before a government funding deadline, Schumer and Trump meet for lunch at the White House. Schumer offered Trump the upwards of $20 billion he wanted for his border wall in exchange for a pathway to citizenship for the eligible immigrant population. The deal is rejected, and government shuts down at midnight.

January 22: Government reopens after Republicans Graham and Jeff Flake secure a public commitment from Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell to hold a future immigration floor vote. Bipartisan negotiations resume.

January 25: White House releases its proposal for a DACA deal under the four pillars, which includes a generous path to citizenship for eligible immigrants, but also a number of impossible-to-swallow provisions for Democrats and some Republicans under the auspices of family-based migration and border security.

February 14: A bipartisan group of senators unveils a compromise plan, which includes $25 billion for the border, a pathway to citizenship for the immigrants, cuts to one slim category of family-based migration and prevents the parents who brought their children to the US illegally from ever being sponsored for citizenship by those children.

February 15: White House goes all out to stop the bipartisan compromise deal, which fails to get the necessary 60 votes in the Senate, with 54 votes.

  6. We don’t need no ed-u-kay-shun…

I’m a great fan of Pink Floyd.  I love David Gilmour and the influence he had on the direction the group took after he joined it although Roger Waters – a fricking genius – was the creative force behind Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, so really, which one is Pink?

  7. HOUSEKEEPING: Spent some of the morning fending off what’s called a “brute force attack” from Turkey. That’s when the hacker randomly generates usernames and passwords to get in. Blocked the IP range they’re using, plus the entire nation. These attacks have never worked in the past, but I stay vigilant. Why would they care to try this? I don’t get it. Anyway, it didn’t appear to affect us. But let me know if you encounter anything weird (other than our own comments).

  8. Craig – last week I irritated the Russians again.  They were trying to hit me and others with a spam attack on FB and I reported them with FB shutting them down.  For retaliation they attacked my website for several hours.

  9. I don’t get those random attacks either.  The farmers market website used to get them all the time — there is nothing NOTHING of any value stored on the site — no registrations, no user names nada zip nothing and yet we got them  We could never open the site for user participation because it inevitably got jammed up.   But I could never figure out why –unless they were just practicing breaking in

  10. Blue, I blocked all Russia Federation IPs long ago. They finally quit trying.

Flatus is correct about complex passwords, which is so annoying but safer. On your profile pages here you will find a generate password option, which creates a safe one. Click your screen name at top right of this page to see your profile page. I have made sure we are at low risk for this stuff but if anyone wants extra protection I suggest doing that. I change mine every 90 days, but that’s because my admin login is the one we really don’t want them into or they could hack the whole site.

  11. Gnats (hackers) are such a nuisance.  It’s too bad they don’t have a creative outlet they could use to put something positive into the world.   I’ll bet they could decent human beings if they stopped being so selfish.   (The same can be said of Republicans.)

The Alamo is tiny.  I suspect it wouldn’t require much effort for a couple of guys to tackle its walls.

  12. Why does Donald J Trump hate America?

Why is he trying to hurt Amazon’s stock price and, in turn, Joe Average’s 401(k)?

Why does Donald J Trump hate the average American?

Just because Bezos owns WAPO and they refuse to be part of  your propaganda department?   Yep, that’s the reason.

Donald J Trump’s ego is so over-inflated that it is always about to pop like a ballon.

Donald J Trump only cares about himself.

    Stop hurting Americans…if you can.

  13. did carl Icahn (the twit’s bff who made out like a bandit with dumping stocks just before the steel tariff announcement) have any amazon or similar stocks of companies that the twit is attacking now?  hope sec is keeping track.

  14. Who is next to win the Race to the Ditch, pruitt, conway, carson or secessions ?  I’m giving carson the poll position.

  15. I think Bolton may not make it on board due to his connections with Cambridge Analytical and all that weird money exchange with the Mercers and “Bolton’s PAC”

  16. I wonder if the Bolton-in-waiting is any relation to the late Ohio Congresswoman Frances Bolton. Her winter estate was on the Atlantic side of the road that goes from Worth Ave out the spit of land shared by Trump’s place and what was hers. She was a classmate of my grandparents at what is now Case Western Reserve.

  17. This site is a good target for the Russians, Chinese and other ne’er-do-wells.  Craig is well known, others of us have a background which has something that draws their ire.  Plus we attack the russian agent in the WH everyday which tends to irritate them.

If you are watching the SFB barometer of how we are winning, the DJ average.  It is down a lot since he decided to throw out treaties, popup tariffs and attack the tech industry.  Along with the man richer than he is, by a lot, Bezos, owner of the WashPo and Amazon, so rich his income from interest alone is enough to power the sun to shine brighter.  Besides the loss of exports to agriculture, industry and services, it costs money to install and enforce tariffs.  So the multi-trillion dollar republican debt will grow even worse.

  18. BB, I heard on the radio that the last quarter is the worst for the Dow in 2 years. Yep, we’re winning alright.

patd, I’m sure that Icahn trading and profiting was just a coincidence.

Oh, and a little investment advice – don’t buy pork belly futures.

And while Bezos probably isn’t thrilled about the Amazon stock drop over the last 3 weeks, it is still up 15% since January 1.  The Dow on the other hand is down 6% since January 1.

  19. What Planet are you from?   A very funny movie written/starring Shandling directed by Mike Nichols.   I also thought there were some pretty funny moments in Ishtar

  20. Put-ey coming to visit Trumpsky in DC at the Kremlin-West?  Isn’t that just a big, old F U to the American people.

  21. Bezos lost more money today than trump ever owned. I’m sure Bezos won’t lose any sleep over it.

  22. I wonder how much Trumpsky had to pay Melanie to hold his hand at the egg roll?

Is that Spicer in the bunny suit? 🙂

  23. bolton will have a tough time in the Senate, as he tries to explain his foundation and his ties to robert ‘russkie bob’ mercer.

  24. Trumpsky & No-regard are at, again.   Evaluating immigration judges based on how quickly they can process & deport folks.    Think that’s gonna tick off some judges?

Melania goes first.  Oh, wait.  She had an anchor baby.

  25. RBG says the New Deal (yes, that New Deal) is taking a hit from the Trumpsky WH.   Rolling back business regulations actually hurts lower & middle-class Americans.  Trumpsky seems to be trying to kill off his base.

    Donald J Trump hates America.

  26. They aren’t too pleased, either, what with Wall Street tanking because of his tariff talk & badmouthing Bezos.

  27. The next organizing event for the anti gun students is April 7th Townhalls in every congressional district

  28. I wanna see ICE agents raid Marla Ego, trump tower, and 666, and arrest melancholia, her parents, the staff, darko, the russkie bankers, basketball owners, moguls, and fixers. And of course, arrest trump for harboring illegal aliens.

  29. It may not be over yet, but I think it’s close enough that I can offer my congratulations to Villanova and my condolences to Michigan.

  30. Mr Crawford,

I am fighting with my ‘puter to get it to work. Must have a virus. Anyway, I won’t be writing a topic after all.
