craig, thank you for reminding us about the beginnings of the massacre by the magaT king.
folks do need to be reminded that the loser guy was responsible for 200,000 needless covid deaths in america according to his own healthcare experts.
however, beware. this 2021 wapo article noted statistics can be manipulated and backfire for campaigns unless analyzed carefully.
How Biden and Trump actually compare on coronavirus deaths – The Washington Post
stephen recapping
American astronauts cast their primary votes from Earth’s orbit yesterday, President Biden’s biggest primary threat wasn’t named Jason Palmer, Senator Mitch McConnell endorsed Trump, and the latest presidential polling from The New York Times is complete garbage.
Attribution: The Starting Gun by Bruce Plante, PoliticalCartoons.com
Numbers are helpful to compare the 2 but the real difference was in their attitudes toward Covid. Dumbass approached it as a political issue complete with Trumpian press conferences in which he tried fabulously unsuccessfully to demonstrate his personal understanding of the virus and leadership in the US response while Joe treated it as a public health problem, leaving the response and explanations to the experts on his response team. The distinction between the 2 administrations in my opinion was the seriousness of the approach by the President, and in that respect there was no comparison. Biden was serious about protecting the public and Dumbass was serious about protecting the image he portrayed.
And to Ivy and others here who experienced real loss to COVID, we know it is not just a political issue!
That crucial February four years ago when a caring and competent President who told the truth would have made it all so different:
Feb. 2, 2020
“We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”
Feb. 7, 2020
“It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu… This is deadly stuff.” [Trump in a private interview with Bob Woodward from The Washington Post made public on Sept. 9, 2020]
Feb. 10, 2020
“I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.”
Feb. 10, 2020
“Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”
Feb. 24, 2020
“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… the Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”
Feb. 25, 2020
“CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”
Feb. 25, 2020
“I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”
Feb. 26, 2020
“The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
Feb. 26, 2020
“We’re going very substantially down, not up.”
Feb. 26, 2020
“Well, we’re testing everybody that we need to test. And we’re finding very little problem. Very little problem.”
Feb. 26, 2020
“This is a flu. This is like a flu.”
Feb. 27, 2020
“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”
Forever thanks to U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a Democrat from Austin TX, for putting this timeline together. Read it in full here.
The juxtapositions in Doggett’s timeline of Trump’s public statements and what he told Woodward in private are chilling:
March 19, 2020
I intended “to always play it down.” [Trump in a private taped interview with Bob Woodward, made public on September 9]
THE NEXT DAY: March 20, 2020
“I say that you’re a terrible reporter, that’s what I say. I think it’s a very nasty question, and I think it’s a very bad signal that you’re putting out to the American people.” [Response to reporter’s question: “What do you say to Americans who are watching you right now who are scared?”]
———–
This is how Trump manages a crisis: Lie, attack and shift blame. His deadly COVID failure ought to be enough to scare anyone about a second Trump presidency.
PatD, thanks for grabbing that WAPO article, good to know what the other side is going to say in this debate. Two key counter points in the article: Biden had to deal with “the effects of choices made before he took over” and, despite the vaccine’s development under Trump he was doing little to accelerate distribution and encourage Americans to get it.
Remind voters how difficult it was to get a vaccine or a test kit until Biden dramatically ramped up distribution, and provided free kits. Literally within weeks of him taking office, anyone could get a vaccine and order a kit. Which could have been done months earlier under Trump.
It’s also worth noting the Trump Administration was completely uncooperative with the Biden transition team on COVID issues, and many others. They were too busy trying to prevent a transition.
April 14, 2020 – Orange Adolf said he had “total” authority as President. <— That!
My favorite part was when Adolf had to be airlifted to the hospital and was afraid he was going to die. I guess it wasn’t a painful enough lesson, because he was still a lying coward. Some folks never learn, but maybe enough voters have had the lesson stick with them to not want him anywhere near the WH, again.
As much as there are anti-vaxers now, folks were trying to claim they were older to get access, and sitting in long lines at stadiums.
Some of us couldn’t get to those places. But then POTUS Joe said vaccines would be available at every neighborhood drugstore by the week of April 19th. I got my first jab on the 24th, two blocks away from my home. I’m six jabs in, and thanks to POTUS Joe it was easily accessible.
Excellent read here by a great journalist, former Philadelphia Inquirer reporter and now University of Pennsylvania professor Dick Polman: “During the pandemic, His Fraudulency got a lot of people killed. Has that slid down the memory hole?“
There’s another solar eclipse on April 8th. I wonder if Adolf will stare directly into it, again?
“His Fraudulency”
LOL good new title for his heinie-ness, the magaT king.
One day in 2020, I walked by someone’s office office (only some worked from home), and a MAGAt was whining that “they think tRUMP invented the virus.” I started laughing hysterically. That’s not how it works, and if it were, he’s not smart enough.
Donald J. tRump is a very stupid man. Selfish. Narcissistic. Cowardly. Dishonest. At his very core though, he is just stupid. It’s amazing how far he got with no charm, just hubris and lies…and his daddy’s money.
Yeah, he lied that someone had called him “your highness.” Is he sure he didn’t say something stupid and they just asked “are you high?”
Your Fraudulency has a nice ring to it.
query: how can something not there be damaged?
Recent Trump speeches suggest ‘underlying brain damage’: psychologist (msn.com)
Elise Stefanik yesterday:
Uh, four years ago people were rationing toilet paper and dying in hospital hallways.
During Covid, many families were relying on their credit cards to stay afloat. With adjustable interest rates they are now trying to dig themselves out from under 34% interest rates. There really should be legislation to cap these rates at no higher than 25% and cancel. It is just as harmful to families as education loans are to individuals.
End stage capitalism. Everything is an unfettered cash grab, and soon there will be nothing left to redistribute. The 1% won’t care because “I got mine, Jack.”
No, four years ago was horrible. I didn’t know if I was going to have a job or not. (Thanks to Nancy Pelosi and Congress for the Payroll Protection Plan.)
When a few were called back to work in the office, and the rest remotely, I didn’t know if someone was going to infect me. One unmasked MAGAt got the virus and when he came back to the office, I was terrified he had come back too soon. I sat in my car and howled like a wild animal and shook. I finally went back in, but I cried at my desk a lot back then. I had to fight for a mask mandate in the office.
The only person I felt was in control was Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins, whose frequent pressers were reassuring and helpful.
Orange Adolf did not have a handle on the issue because it wasn’t anything he could exploit to enrich his pockets or aggrandize his ego. He was and is a stupid, selfish waste of space.
Yep Jamie, we used to have usury caps on credit cards. Until Reagan came along.
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/03/06/texas-primaries-vouchers-school-choice/
“After facing decades of fierce bipartisan resistance to the idea of using state dollars to pay for private school tuition, school voucher supporters in Texas emerged from the Tuesday primaries triumphant.”
“Public school advocates, meanwhile, raised the alarm Wednesday about the potential cost to the school system if vouchers become a reality.”
“Out-of-state donors have colluded with state leadership to defame and punish honorable public servants from their own party who went to Austin to vote their districts and their consciences,” said Kate Johanns, a spokesperson for the Association of Texas Professional Educators. “We are disheartened but not dissuaded. Our state’s 5.4 million public schoolchildren deserve better from the leaders of Texas, and we’ll continue fighting for them.”
“Gov. Greg Abbott succeeded in knocking off nine fellow Republicans who opposed vouchers in the House during last year’s legislative sessions. More could fall in the May runoffs, placing his signature priority in range in 2025.”
“Twenty-one House Republicans opposed vouchers last year, teaming up with Democrats to vote 84-63 in favor of an amendment that ultimately doomed the proposal.”
“The victories of nine pro-voucher newcomers to the Texas House on Tuesday — if they can be bolstered with wins for two more candidates who forced anti-voucher incumbents into runoffs — could be enough to push vouchers across the finish line when the new generation of lawmakers funded by and loyal to Abbott are sworn in next year.”
Here’s a good one…..guess who was right about Stump.
Lindsay Graham. lol
Seth Meyers laying out tRUMPsky’s greatest hits, in case anyone forgot; it’s a lot to keep track of.
Sometimes doing drugs and drinking booze on the job does not make your life happier. The “doctor” as candyman in the sfb WH got his peepee whacked, Navy demoted him.
Craig, thank you for your kind words of sympathy. March is the month we remember, there’s movement to designate Covid Memorial Day. It would be much appreciated. All of us in the covid loss community feel grateful when our loved ones are reverently remembered. Mourning is every day for us, though we understand others must move on. In-person and in-community we say there’s something “different” about this loss as compared to other type of losses we’ve experienced.
Maybe it is the “politics” of it. I feel solidarity with other mothers, such as Heather Heyer’s, our daughters died at the same untimely age of 32. And even Ashli Babbitt’s, also a tragic victim of Trump’s cravenness. His direct role in these young people’s deaths and now his progressing mania as he poises for more absolutism is chilling to witness. His stone-cold heartlessness is a bellwether for more to come as he unleashes more massacres. We won’t move on until he moves on.
(((((((((((Ivy)))))))))))!
32 is waaaaaaay too young.
Repugs make everything into a political issue….. fuck em!
today’s meme…
COVID didn’t have to be so hard, we just had to look out for each other, that’s all, but Trump and his army of man-babies had to tantrum and fight every reasonable approach
we can’t go back to that
the fucking moron said to
inject bleach
where’s the jar? 💵
Don’t forget the powerful lights – to be used INSIDE the body.
These magats hate regular Americans so much that they’d rather a russian was running the country.
Covid could have helped bring us together, instead Trump used it as a wedge
He divided you from your friends and family, some you’re probably still not talking to, all so he could play king
we can’t go back to that
Thanks, Renee and all. Every ((((((((((hug)))))))))) and good thought helps.
Efforts to equivocate Biden for any pandemic deaths are lame and misdirected. We all know it was solely the X-President who failed his duty to protect the country from “germ warfare” whatever foreign entity may it be that unleashed it. Who knows what difference to the lost and maimed lives it might have made if Trump had actually done his job? Maybe he would even have gotten re-elected.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/07/europe/sweden-join-nato-official-intl/index.html
“Sweden officially joins NATO, becoming alliance’s 32nd member”
“Sweden joining NATO was scarcely conceivable a little more than two years ago. The country remained neutral in both World Wars but when Russian troops began marching towards Kyiv in February 2022, Sweden – and its Nordic neighbor Finland – became alert to the threat Moscow could pose to nearby countries outside the alliance.”
“Finland – which shares a 1,300 kilometer (830 mile) border with Russia – officially joined in April 2023, more than doubling NATO’s border with Russia in a blow to President Vladimir Putin, who has sought to stem any growth of the alliance.”
“If you step back and think of where we were three years ago, none of this was foreordained – and in fact, none of this was foreseeable,” Blinken said.
Vlad, you putz, you did it to yourself.
Here is a list of this mornings fun with people trying to get into one of my websites, What-Me.com. For several years it was US, RU and China as the top three. You can see China pretty much gave up on me now that I am retired and they believe it.
It takes a long time to build a website. The system was hacked a few months ago and the website damaged. I at least had a very old backup at home so it was not a complete start from scratch.
Brilliant! Deliver aid while restricting contraband, Gazans get relief, Hamas doesn’t get weapons 👍
…just glad i ain’t in charge of security 😬

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/03/07/ronny-jackson-white-house-navy-demoted/
“The Navy demoted him in July 2022 following a damaging Pentagon inspector general’s report thatsubstantiated allegations about his inappropriate behavior as a White House physician…”
“Jackson is now a retired Navy captain, those people said — a demotion that carries significant financial burden in addition to the social stigma of stripped rank in military circles.”
“Despite the demotion, Jackson has continued to refer to himself as a retired rear admiral, including in statements released since the Navy reclassified him as a retired captain. Former president Donald Trump and other Republicans have also continued to publicly describe Jackson using his former rank; it’s unclear if they were aware of his demotion.”
“While it is possible that others will mistakenly refer to him as ‘Admiral’ in perpetuity, he himself should not make that mistake,”…
“A Navy official confirmed that the service took unspecified action against Jackson in the wake of the 2021 inspector general’s report, which found that Jackson berated subordinates in the White House medical unit, “made sexual and denigrating statements” about a female subordinate, consumed alcohol inappropriately with subordinates and consumed the sleep drug Ambien while on duty as the president’s physician.”
Birds of a feather…
