  1. Aug 9, 2022 The FBI’s raid of the former president’s home is apparently part of an ongoing investigation by the National Archives and Records Administration. Meanwhile, the current president’s recent accomplishments are being celebrated online with “Dark Brandon” memes.

  2. daily beast pointed out in trevor noah’s take

In the end, the host said he was amazed at “how quickly MAGA world turns on law enforcement—and America as a whole—whenever it suits them,” including Marjorie Taylor Greene posting an upside-down American flag on Twitter. “What happened to, ‘If you don’t like what’s happening in America, why don’t you just leave?’”

    here’s the full monte

Aug 9, 2022Trump’s Florida home is raided by the FBI, Eric Trump makes a somewhat pathetic excuse for his dad, and Fox News reveals just how fast they’ll turn on law enforcement when things don’t go their way.

  3. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/10/politics/trump-deposition-ny-attorney-general/index.html

“Former President Donald Trump to be deposed by NY attorney general on Wednesday”

“It is unclear whether Trump will answer questions or assert his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during the behind-closed-doors testimony.”

“Some Trump advisers have advocated that the former President answer questions since he previously testified about his financial statements under oath, while others have warned him against providing any answers because of the potential legal jeopardy he may face…”

“Trump said in a post on Truth Social early Wednesday morning that he would be “seeing” James “for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history! My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides. Banana Republic!”

Yes, we have no bananas –

  4. The most nervous people in America this morning are Dumbass’ lawyers in his civil case in NYS.

  5. Even if SFB starts out on his Fifth Amendment rights, I doubt he could keep it up.  Maybe six or seven questions, but if “flattered” by some nonsense statement “oh you are doing well big boy” he will crack and start bragging/lying.

  6. pogo, those lawyers must be masochists. either way the case turns out they still lose since more than likely they won’t get paid.

  7. MSNBC crawl (and Mika just echoed that) said the FBI folks took 12 boxes of stuff from MAL yesterday. Remember that the initial tranche of documents the archives folks recovered was 15 boxes.  So the count is up to 27 boxes of documents purloined by Dumbass.  A banker’s box holds about 1500-2000 pages of documents in legal size file folders arranged in one column.  To be conservative in the estimate, say there’s about half that.  The math is daunting.

Dumbass’ lawyer was wholly unconvincing in her argument that they have nothing although she was not allowed o observe what they took. Note to Donnie – if you want someone t believe your lawyer try picking one who presents as having some gravitas rather than a young attractive female who appears wet behind the ears.

PATD, and they can’t claim ignorance (1) if he’s indicted and (2) when they get stiffed.

  8. so if it blows bad, won’t prevailing winds mean russia gets zapped too?

    CNBC:

Russian forces in charge of southern Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant are reconfiguring its power production to connect it to the annexed territory of Crimea, Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom said, warning that this meant causing damage to critical systems.
“To do this, you must first damage the power lines of the plant connected to the Ukrainian energy system. From 7-9 August, the Russians have already damaged three power lines. At the moment, the plant is operating with only one production line, which is an extremely dangerous way of working,” Petro Kotin, president of Energoatom, said on Ukrainian television.

    the guardian:

The process of de-energisation of the plant in preparation to connect to Russia would be extremely dangerous, Kotin warned.
At the ZNPP, we are already very close to this first stage of Fukushima-1, because there is only one line. As soon as it is turned off, the station will switch to diesel, and after that everything will depend on the reliability of their work and the sufficiency of the fuel that is there for diesel engines at the ZNPP.”
Kotin also spoke with CNN, reiterating his claims that the ultimate plan of the Russians is to disconnect the plant from powering Ukraine and connect it to the grid to power occupied Crimea.
If there is no connection to the grid, then you cannot provide electricity from the outside, then the diesel generators will start. But everything will depend on the reliability of those generators. … This is a dangerous situation, because if those stop you could have a disaster of melting nuclear materials,” he said, comparing the potential fallout to the Fukishima disaster in Japan.
If the situation worsens, we need to think about our population at the plant. We are planning on how, during war conditions, we will be able to evacuate the personnel.

Great release of radioactivity could happen from there. There could be a cloud, a radioactive cloud.”

  9. like rodney dangerfield, looks like joe just can’t get no respect even with big stuff done

    as noted in washington examiner:

“What we have seen this past week, and I would argue the past 18 months, has been a president who has legislative success, more legislative success than any modern president,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday.

Jean-Pierre cited the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, the $550 billion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the $280 billion Chips and Science Act, as well as the $700 billion Inflation Reduction Act, the climate and healthcare spending bill the Senate passed last weekend.

“If you look specifically at the Inflation Reduction Act and those components that are incredibly popular, when you think about how the American people feel about lowering costs, energy costs, lowering premiums, healthcare premiums, these are things — and especially Medicare to be able to negotiate — these are things that Democrats have been fighting for 34 years,” she said. “What we have seen this week is a win, is a win for the American public.”

and just when the dems start floating euphoric balloons for media to talk about, they burst. along comes the glitzy pull of the FBI raid, all the GOPer sturm und drang over it and talking heads turn away.

  10. can’t take credit for “gets no respect” since the hill pointed it out in may:

Rodney Dangerfield famously complained that he got “no respect.”
After 15 months as president delivering the most successful domestic agenda since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, President Biden is entitled to make the same complaint.
Biden gets no respect even though he has a record of success and Republicans in Congress don’t have any legislative agenda. They are content to stoke culture wars and bash Biden.

  11. hah, completely forgot about the underwear caper.  here’s some transcript from CNN crossfire back in 2004 between tucker carlson and paul bagala:

/>CARLSON: Well, if there’s one thing Bill Clinton cares about, it is his legacy, which is another way of saying himself.

There was that endless, fat-filled biography, the ridiculously oversized library crammed with everything but a Marc Rich exhibit and so on. So, when yesterday, Clinton tried to tell ABC’s Peter Jennings that he doesn’t really care what his historians say about him, Jennings had to step in. Oh, yes, you do, said the anchor. And Clinton promptly exploded.

    Here’s what he said.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WILLIAM J. CLINTON, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: You don’t want to go here, Peter. You don’t want to go here, not after what you people did and the way you, your network, what you did with Kenneth Starr, the way your people repeated every little sleazy thing he leaked.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

CARLSON: Still whining about Ken Starr, still blaming the press, still living in 1998. The world has moved on, but Bill Clinton has not. He’s the last Japanese soldier emerging from the jungle unaware that the war has ended.

    (LAUGHTER)

CARLSON: It is more pathetic than anything. Think of that next time you’re tempted to despise Bill Clinton. He is tormented enough. It’s pathetic. He’s whining.

BEGALA: He was asked a question about 1998, and he answered the question.

CARLSON: No, he’s not. He’s attacking the press.

    (CROSSTALK)

BEGALA: He should attack the press.

    CARLSON: Well, it’s pathetic.

BEGALA: On September 21, 1998, all of the networks, including ours, ran the tape of President Clinton’s…

CARLSON: You’re still fighting this? This is so sad.

BEGALA: … testimony before the grand jury. You know what Bill Clinton did on that day?

    CARLSON: I don’t know.

    (BELL RINGING)

BEGALA: He spoke to the U.N. about terrorism.

CARLSON: He probably said that AIDS or something — all right.

    (CROSSTALK)

BEGALA: He said the threat of terrorism was a clear and present danger. And he talked about how all of us are potentially victims of terrorists. Who was right? The media who was covering Bill Clinton’s underwear drawer or Bill Clinton, who was warning us about terrorism?

    (BELL RINGING)

    (CROSSTALK)

    BEGALA: Who was right, guys?

    (APPLAUSE)

  12. Stavridis keeps reporting how the moral is down and the body count burgeoning for Russian troops, so a prisoner call-up is not surprising, but the only other time I recall a similar event was when Nixon emptied the jails for fresh bodies to be sent to Vietnam , to become what we draftees called ourselves, “cannon fodder”.  Criminals will likely be happy to die for Mother Russia, but only after exploring ways to snag some profits on whatever the black market is offering, and what the possibilities for rape and plunder are.  Prisoners are bad guys, generally speaking; my Fort Knox barracks in 1969 was full of young men sprung from Michigan prisons and jails who were having weed and acid mailed to them so they could set up business before they ever picked up an M-16 in earnest.  How many true Russian patriots remain steadfast in loyalty to Putin will have a shock to see what kind of mentality released prisoners bring.

  13. Fat ass pleads the 5th.

Your honor, the state requests that the Court instruct the jury that they may draw an adverse inference from Mr. Trump’s invocation of his 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination with respect to the subject matter of each and every question posed to him in response to which he invoked that right.

  14. Economic recovery and common sense on Biden’s side.
Drama and democracy in peril on tRUMPSKy/MAGAt side.

    Choose.

  15. A sad fact of television is that Paul Begala basically got paid for wasting his time trying to have an intelligent conversation with an ox-brain like carlson.

  16. dipshit’s never met a human-rights abuser he didn’t like, or an honest public servant that he did

  17. Well Haiti  has arrived at the 9th Circle of Hell, and Cuba is about to get on the same elevator.
The gangs in Haiti are using bulldozers to destroy each others houses after they kill you.
That big fire in Cuba burned for 5 days , the largest fire in Cuban history .
Now there’s no fuel to make electrons.

  18.  “the mob takes the Fifth. If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth”

so declared today’s fifth taker (and now self-proclaimed mobster by his own reasoning) at a rally in 2016

  19. The big Nukes in Ukraine –
If those were  wind farms , or solar farms ……… Shelling them would be bad, but not threaten  millions beyond the farms.  If Cuba had wind farms their lights would stay on.

One of the great images  from space is the Earth at night, Italy is crazy cool .
Nothing shows the hand of man like those  images.  It’s a pity we don’t have a time lapse from the 1890’s , when Buffalo was wired, and the rest of the Earth was dark.
That fire in Cuba is about to show-up in a satellite data.

  20. The media meme  is that the “Flying Monkey Air Force”  will be out in force in November .

True , but old fat white people ain’t a growing demographic.
There’s Kansas blood in the water , and it ain’t Hillary Clinton’s .
The whale is wounded , and the sharks  are going to vote with their teeth .

  21. Cuba –
Biden should call De Santis , and Rubio  and ask them for advice on how to aid the Cuban people.
    De fang the snakes.
This his Joe’s bread and butter.

This fire is no small thing. And we need to help. Otherwise Fla. is about to be slammed with immigrants.

Cuban immigrants , this puts them in a box , what are they going to do ?
    Bus them to Vermont ?

And this spells the end of the Castro power in in Cuba . If we play it right.

  22. OM – Cuba needs help, but it will bite Biden in the backside. Aiding socialists, is how the far’t will spin it.

  23. As for Haiti  send in the Marines ,
But that will never  happen .
I’ve been reading about them , The Horn of Africa is a paradise compared to them.

  24. OM, due to a touch of illness I stayed home today. Ended up watching Dierks Bentley at the Ryman and there were 2 musicians in his group with the last name McCoury. I know how you like your McCoury boys. Buncha guys who could play.

  25. Bwahahahahahahah. Trump aides speculating about who flipped. I wonder when they start turning on each other.
btw, I can’t wait for the Perry testimony in the Fall.

  26. OM – I get that it’s an opening, but it will also create an ‘aiding socialists’ talking point, which keeps the younger generation of Cuban-Americans in tRUMPsky’s court.  The first-time voters said they don’t like Dems because nobody should be given anything.  Very hardline. They’ve  never wanted for anything a day in their lives because of their families’ hard work and good fortune.  Complete lack of empathy.  No understanding of giving someone a hand UP, not a hand out.
