President In Panic

More distraction stunts from a president who can’t handle the truth

By Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) tweeted at 10:06 PM on Mon, Apr 20, 2020:
In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!

  1.  golf course resorts workers will be “deemed critical” of course, but what about all those folk who pick the lettuce and tomatoes for his daily big mac?

    from NYTimes:

Workers who have for years received visas to perform specialized jobs in the United States would also be denied permission to arrive, though some workers in some industries deemed critical could be exempted from the ban, the people familiar with the president’s discussion said.

  2. The above is a column by Heather Cox Richardson. .  About Hoover and the current schmuck.   this lady is a great historian and well worth following on Twitter or FB.

  3. This morning I read an article in Bloomberg about the parking of much of the world’s aircraft.  For grins I used Google Earth to take a bird’s eye view of the major airports of  the U.S.  Most of the images were from during the last few weeks, those show no aircraft, or perhaps one or two parked at jetways.  Otherwise the airports were empty.  The images from before March 1 show aircraft as normal.

  4. If Trump thinks oil prices are low, wait until he sees how high food prices will become without the people to work the fields.

  5. It’s not just the people who work the food supply chain…  it’s also educated immigrants.  A lot of our doctors, surgeons, dentists, computer programmers, etc., etc. are also immigrants.  My doctor is a Pakistani..  my dentist is Egyptian.  How many educated Indians do you think are over here doing vital jobs?  It’s been a long time since this country has had enough educated Americans to fulfill certain jobs.

  6. Pogo… of course it’s just red meat for his base…   but…  in the meantime…  he’s destroying this country (which I know you know).  One has to wonder how much more damage this horse’s ass will do before Nov.  Especially as he gets more and more desperate.

    fucking moron…

  7. How typical of Trump to blame the wrong people.

Everyone knows that the virus was created and is being spread by Jews.

    Just kidding.

But it’s likely that at least one of his staff members is whispering THAT in his ear every day.

His base is “almost there” but not quite ready for that, just yet.  Maybe in October.

  8. Blue Bronc:
I did the same thing using Google earth to look at world’s largest airport, Atlanta.   I saw exactly six planes.  At first I didn’t see any…this airport is HUGE.  But finally I saw that one section of one terminal has a small cluster of jets.

  9. It’s amazing  how totally immune the dictator is to how people see him as a clown, incompetent, and inept. I would be totally embarrassed!

  10. He had better be in panic, polls are showing people over 65 increasingly pissed at the way he is handling covid19. And they vote.
    Jack

  11. BTW, that was a 20 point drop for 65 yr-old plus , on approval of Trump’s handling of  Covid-19 in just a month. They are now down there with the youngsters in their approval rating.
I guess sacrificing Grandma for the sake of the economy didn’t go over too well with gramps and granny.
    Jack

  12. tiptoe…  pictures here are a crapshoot.  I got some really good pictures of that bear last night.  Couldn’t post them here.  If you’re a FaceBook friend… I posted one over there.

  13. Speaking of panic
An interesting read on problems in the Crude oil futures market.  30% of  all open contracts  for June are owned by one ETF fund.

Hmmmm, Trading on other peoples money, seems I remember this happening before. I don’t believe it ended well………

  14. RR, pic prob could be file size issue, gotta be 5mb or under, can resize in your photo program. Another issue I’ve encountered is our pic poster won’t accept .jpeg for some reason but when I change file name to .jpg it goes through.

If you want to email pics to me I can probably figure it out.

  15. Mr Jack,
I tried to get into the (now) oil fiasco, chasing the price down to negative. I never caught up. So, okay. I had fun watching, anyway.

We all think that we can get in, ride, and get out in time, whether it’s oil, dentistry, real estate, or singing. We’re Americans, and we know that whatever we’re doing right now is not our final destiny. We all think there’s something great just ahead, waiting for us. The brass ring, the diamond ring, the cash register ring. Usually, it’s just a ring of baloney, but we’re (generally) a hopeful people, risk takers and semi-pro odds makers.

Reading that article you posted reminded me of how lucky I was to fail at catching a contract or five, ‘cuz I could have been stuck with them and skinned, gutted, filleted, smoked, and eaten by now.
    again.

  16. Over 800,00 confirm cases of Covid in the US.
    Approximately 74,000 have recovered.
    Over 44,000 have died.

    Are the 700,000 being tracked?
They can’t all be in the hospital?
Probably, far more than 44,000 have died from Covid/complications, but not almost 3/4 of a million American.
    What goes on here?

  17. not to worry about workers for the IMpotus  golf resorts

    politico:

President Donald Trump’s plan to suspend immigration into the U.S. will not apply to foreign farm workers, according to three industry sources familiar with the decision.
    […]
The Agriculture Department is working with the White House to publicly clarify that farm workers will be exempt, according to a lobbyist.
An ongoing labor shortage has led to the agriculture industry increasingly relying on the H-2A guest worker program to fill empty jobs on farming operations. In 2019, the Department of Labor certified more than 250,000 H-2A worker visas, a 10 percent increase from the year before. For farmers to hire seasonal workers from other countries, they must prove that the jobs could not be filled by domestic workers.
In recent weeks, the Trump administration has eased requirements for farmers to use the H-2A program as the pandemic has disrupted the labor supply. The federal government waived in-person interviews for workers looking to get hired as embassies have shut down. Farmers can also hire foreign workers currently in the U.S., and the three-year time limit for workers has been temporarily lifted.

  18. So, Marla’s Ego is now a farm ? Then so is your pot with the cherry tomato and the plastic fern in my bathroom.

  19. patd… thanks for that last post.  Our agriculture is saved!

Craig…  it’s ok.  It’s not like it was a big bear…  Yogi size.  It was a small one more like Boo Boo.

  20. Potatoes, rooted.  Beans, germinated.  Onions, sprouting.  Already have tomato fruits.  Bring on the apocalypse!

  21. For more on Trumps problems with Seniors Read the whole article lot of good stuff  about Trump’s Covid-19 response and polls.

For a preview on how things could get worse for the president, look at the evolving political views of seniors, one of Trump’s most supportive constituencies in the previous election. They are also the most concerned about the coronavirus, given they have a much greater risk of dying if they become infected.

The latest Morning Consult poll found that 65-and-older voters prioritized defeating the coronavirus over healing the economy by nearly a 6-to-1 ratio. And over the past month, they’ve become the group most disenchanted with Trump’s handling of the crisis. In mid-March, seniors were more supportive of Trump than any other age group (plus-19 net approval). Now, their net approval of the president has dropped 20 points and is lower than any age group outside of the youngest Americans.

Those findings were matched by a new NBC/WSJ poll, which tested the presidential matchup between Trump and Joe Biden. Among seniors 65 and older, Biden led Trump by 9 points, 52 to 43 percent. That’s a dramatic 16-point swing from Hillary Clinton’s showing in the 2016 election; she lost seniors by 7 points to Trump (52-45 percent).

Seniors are among the most engaged voters in the country (71 percent went to the polls in 2016), and were critical to Trump’s victory. They’ve remained supportive of him for much of his presidency. And they’re counting on the president to protect them at a particularly precarious moment. If Trump’s desire to quickly reopen the economy ends up backfiring, they’ll be the first to abandon him and deal his reelection prospects a crippling blow.

  22. Most of my neighbors are immigrants from India.  They are telecommuting techies.
Bink – Glad yo see you back.  How are your family members?   The antler of ginger on my counter started to sprout, so I stuck that in with the peppers, basil, and one, pearl onion that had started to sprout in my counter.    Tons of spaghetti squash have sprouted in the potato/yam container.   I think there are still potatoes that didn’t get harvested.  I guess they will be compost.

  23. wonder if the families can sue IMpotus for pushing the drug – “what have you got to lose?”

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/hydroxychloroquine-treatment-for-covid-19-shows-no-benefit-and-more-deaths-in-va-study-2020-04-21

A malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in a large analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers reported.
The study was posted on an online site for researchers and has been submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine, but it has not been reviewed by other scientists. Grants from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia paid for the work.
Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.
About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died, too, but the difference between that group and those receiving usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

  24. Hey Jaime can’t be too serious he’s been able to write bromantic letters to comrade sfb

  25. Whenever the moderators on CNN or MSNBC  political news programs have an “expert” guest on, they ask “Why did the White House do ….” (some senseless thing.)

Then the guest struggles to propose some sort of rational explanation.  But this is absurd.  While that kind of analysis might be reasonable for most Presidencies, it is NOT reasonable for Trump’s horror show.

Whenever the Trump administration does something really stupid and destructive, the experts should just say, “Why?  I’ll tell you why.  Because the guy in charge is a stupid, ignorant, and malignant narcissist.  Do you understand that?  He is not just incompetent – he is EVIL.”

  26. Nash, you GET it.

DNC should do a campaign ad.

Chloroquine – What have you got to lose, other than your life?

It will be lost on SFB’s true believers, but it won’t be lost on those whose IQ is higher than their shoe size.

  27. Dallas county has extended stay-at-home until May 15th…although, they are slowly loosening up restrictions. Huh?  State parks reopened today.  Elective surgeries are OK tomorrow, and, you can order from retail stores to pick up curbside.   I have no idea what this will mean for my company or when I will get to go back.  Probably around the time unemployment actually shows up.  I applied on 4/10.  I was told to request payment the week beginning 4/19;   I got an email reminding me to do it. When I logged in, I was told I could not request payment for three more days because it wasn’t my time yet. Crazy system.  Still haven’t been able to talk to a human. I’m lucky that I’m fine.   Folks with kids and/or a lot of overhead are screwed.

  28. Trump briefing today backing off from this immigration order, “probably tomorrow”, once again, more BS to distract from testing failures. Tomorrow he’ll pretend he never proposed this and blame media for talking about it. Presidency by Lewis Carroll.

  29. If, say, you could count on a cadre of useful idiots who were easily manipulated and triggered; and if you wanted to spread deaths within the US…..would having large numbers of them march out into public spaces spreading their germs all over the place, would that help the effort?

  30. Yes, we are all down the rabbit hole at the Mad Hatter’s TEA PARTY at 4pm, every day, drinking his poison.

  31. Sturg – Only amongst themselves, if the rest of us are at home.
I trace the rise of SFB to McCain choosing the ex-half-gov, who acted as a mouthpiece for the T’baggerz.

  32. …haven’t watched a single second of head-dipshit’s fake briefings, and my mind is healthier for it!

(i still read about them the next day and am keeping informed about his totalitarian overtures on twitter, so my head isn’t in the sand)

  33. It’s like watching “Kung-Fu” , you watch the whole thing knowing there’s going to be a “little” Kung-fuing along the way then before the end, the “Big Kung-Fuing”.
At some pernt jerkoff has to “blow up” on some reporter. Reporter gets props all night.
    Wrestling.

  34. Craig – How do you sleep at night after watching Fox? My blood pressure would be through the roof.

  35. BiD… nope…. I’m a Patriots fan.

Bink… I find I’m healthier and happier too.  Good luck on your farming adventure.  We can’t plant without fear of frost until the end of May.

  36. RR, thanks, but I’m still not back on FB.

    Craig, good pic info.  Thanks.
Tonight at 9 CT on PBS Frontline:  ”
    Coronavirus Pandemic
An investigation into the government response to the coronavirus outbreak, COVID-19, and how the outbreak impacts poor children in the Midwest.”

  37. In the rural, Midwest where all of the hospitals have closed down and nobody had health insurance anyway.
Tiptoe – Batten down the hatches.  The weather looks to have its way with north Texas on Earth Day.

  38. The joys of “Voting by Mail” in Oregon.

I just received my “Oregon Voters’ Pamphlet” for the 5/19 primary election.  It’s 51  pages long.  It contains such things as, frequently asked questions, a sample ballot, ballot instructions, important dates, general information, party statements (there are seven parties listed), and a page for each candidate including their photo and a sort of political resume listing their background, previous offices held, and their positions on critical issues.

This is the ultimate system to encourage “informed” voting.  You get full information a month in advance, and when the ballot comes by mail, you have plenty of time to submit it.  You can mark it and mail it back or deposit it in one of several hundred collection sites scattered around the state.

This is why Oregon has one of the highest voter participation rates in the country.

If your state does not have voting by mail you should demand it.  It’s wonderful.  One of the reason that most Oregon residents have a high opinion of their state and federal government representatives is that they feel that their vote matters, because they actually did get to vote.  Those people in other states who find it very hard to vote are much more likely to feel alienated from government.

  39. ”Bink, I watch every minute of every briefing so you don’t have to. Also watch FOX prime time every night. Know thy enemy!“ -CC

Thank you for your service, sincerely.  i’m reading your commentary.

…will send veggie minestrone in a few months, if needed, RR
