Jamie – good thing it is continuing to rock and roll. If it ever stopped that would be the time to be concerned. Just like the Yellowstone caldera, that one is going to make a mess of Wyoming.

In the good news department, First Lady and Mr. P are back sprucing up their Arboretum nest. It got a little voyeuristic and several hundred of their fans were on line to confirm they mated three times (THREE) Yeah!.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) showed how not to use protective gloves during a press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic in Miami on Wednesday.
DeSantis was criticized and ridiculed in equal measure on Twitter after he wore a glove on his left hand, but bizarrely not on his right. He also touched his face with his bare hand (against advice from public health officials) and clasped both hands together.
DeSantis initially resisted calls to issue a statewide stay-at-home order to combat the spread of the virus, which has now killed almost 15,000 people nationwide. He finally relented on April 1.
“Half-assing it just like he has with this #coronavirus management,” one Twitter user commented on DeSantis’ decision to wear just one glove.
Thoreau was a goofy little critter, speaking of Walden Pond. I think he was one mess kit shy of a camping trip.
Oh, plenty of wild turkeys and hawks of various types, but so far no eagles.
Sturg, nice pond. Think ‘skeeters might breed in it, or are they so thick in your area what’s one pond more or less anyway?
Joe will pick who Joe will pick. He’s said his VP will be a woman and perhaps a minority. Ok. I say focus on someone who can boost minority turnout in Fl, PA, MI & WI. Oh, and someone who is smart.
Facing the sunrise, there’s a meadow to the right, the pond is in front, and to the left a salt water tidal creeklet. On those super high tides the salt water bleeds into the pond so it’s not purely fresh water as it’s a dug out pond and has no outlet. (Dig 3 feet here and you strike water.) like if you dammed a stream. It’s big enough to avoid being stagnant. But at any rate the land is a bluff with great breeze and the county does a lot of “mosquito control” for the landed gentry and the tourists so the upshot is that the pesky mosquitoes mostly hang out over there in the woods which I studiously avoid.
in ky OTOH so to speak,
(CNN)Kentucky is urging residents to avoid Easter services this weekend due to the coronavirus pandemic, warning that anyone who attends in person will be ordered to quarantine for 14 days.
Officials are aware of about six churches planning to hold in-person services, Gov. Andy Beshear said in a statement. The state police will record attendees’ license plates and notify them it is a misdemeanor violation of orders issued by state health officials, the governor said.
“Local health officials then will contact the people associated with those vehicles and require them to self-quarantine for 14 days. This is the only way we can ensure that your decision doesn’t kill someone else,” Beshear said.
It’s crucial for the state to take the measures especially after an outbreak that left dozens sick and multiple people dead in Hopkins County was traced to a church revival there last month, he said.
“Folks, we shouldn’t have to do this,” he said. “What we’re asking is for you to love your neighbor as yourself. We shouldn’t have to do this.”
There are at least 1,693 coronavirus confirmed cases and 90 deaths in Kentucky so far, according to Johns Hopkins University.
“The next couple of weeks being absolutely critical not only to us blunting or flattening the curve but really protecting those that are most vulnerable, especially our seniors that are in different types of assisted living facilities,” he said.
In a tweet Friday, Sen. Rand Paul, who is recovering from coronavirus, criticized the governor.
“Taking license plates at church? Quarantining someone for being Christian on Easter Sunday? Someone needs to take a step back here,” the US Senator for Kentucky said.
Well we should ~~certainly listen ~~ to an idiot like Rand Paul. Shit, the Pogo family had to self-quarantine in East Bumfuck because we had been to NYC. Rand exposed a fair number of his colleagues, self absorbed dumbfuck that he is.

good news silver lining in the dark clouds from the guardian:
A nationwide lockdown imposed across India almost two weeks ago to stop the spread of the coronavirus – the largest lockdown of its kind attempted anywhere – has led to widespread chaos and suffering, especially among the country’s 300 million poor. Yet in Delhi, the world’s most polluted city, it has also resulted in some of the freshest air the capital has seen in decades.
It is a lockdown silver lining being repeated across the world, as toxic megacities such as Bangkok, Beijing, São Paulo and Bogotá, where varying coronavirus restrictions have been imposed, all reported an unprecedented decline in pollution. Yet it is countered with one cruel irony: with most residents of these cities strictly confined to their homes, few have any way to appreciate this newly fresh air, except through an open window or a during speedy trip to the supermarket.
In Delhi, air quality index (AQI) levels are usually a severe 200 on a good day (anything above 25 is deemed unsafe by World Health Organization). During peak pollution periods last year they soared well into a life-threatening 900 and sometimes off the measurable scale. But as Delhi’s 11m registered cars were taken off the roads and factories and construction were ground to a halt, AQI levels have regularly fallen below 20. The skies are suddenly a rare, piercing blue. Even the birdsong seems louder.
Dr Shashi Tharoor, a politician and author who has been vocal on environmental issues, said he hoped that it was a wake-up call. “The blissful sight of blue skies and the joy of breathing clean air provides just the contrast to illustrate what we are doing to ourselves the rest of the time,” said Tharoor. “Today the typical Delhi AQI hovers around 30 and one blissful afternoon, after a spurt of rain, it dropped to 7.”

I miss open-faced, radish sandwiches with Blue Bonnet margarine on rye bread with a little salt on top. My Danish, great-grandma always cut them in half. A half slice of bread was one, whole sandwich to her. Heaven forbid you wanted more than “2” sandwiches, which was just one slice of bread.
All time favorite liverwurst on rye mustard and onion

Yes and?
I liked my breakfast sandwich this morning PB&J with a fried egg. Quick easy and I got out the door.
Jack
KGC – I have been planning on making bread just for sandwiches like that! Usually I make rye bread, which is good for certain sandwiches, but for a liverwurst the bread has to be a white but a nice European white. Liverwurst is so good done right. I was the only kid in grade school who proudly ate liverwurst sandwiches. Of course right after WWII some German things were a bit of an issue with some folks.
Jack – tonight I have two lamb rib chops for which I am still making up my mind on what to do with them. One option (the favorite since five o’clock this morning) is to roast a few cloves of garlic until soft and sweet, sear the lamb chops then finish in an oven. Now the problem is time. It is getting late and all that would take almost two hours. So. . . perhaps brunch could be something like that. Then for tonight I can reheat a couple of crab cakes I made last night from crab I picked last October. Yum.
and nothing perfect as is
BB
I’ve never had it on white bread. Probably good on sour dough. I don’t have liverwurst too often these days
BB
As I remember the last time I just did olive oil with salt, garlic and Black pepper. Good lamb doesn’t need much. I looked on line and they all looked like a good way to ruin tasty meat. I used to over cook them but once I tasted lamb chops rare I never cook them any other way. I have a counter top convection oven and I set it on 400, brown the fat, pull it out and serve.

Ms Dallas,
What do you do to get vitamin B-12 ? I need barrels of it to keep the stinging down.

From the Wikipedia article on alex azar : In 2018, National Security Adviser John Bolton dismantled the task force charged with responsibility for planning and response to epidemics. The team’s leader, Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer, was the leader of the anti-malarial efforts under presidents Barack Obama and George W. There are many that I do not remember because it would be for something like a seventies calculator or something I saw once or twice as an electronic technician. I do not write code anymore, but I have to be able to read it and troubleshoot things so the list contains a couple of the newer languages.

I’ve never had it on white bread. Probably good on sour dough. I don’t have liverwurst too often these days

I’ve got a boneless leg-o-lamb. From a lamb very unsteady on its feet I’d wager.
Jack, right on, bruddah.
Bush.[48] White House Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert, who had advocated a comprehensive biodefense strategy against both pandemics and potential biological attacks, departed from the White House on the same day Bolton arrived.

I don’t know what “stinging” you’re talking about, but magnesium helps with pain, as well as turmeric

Well, this is interesting. Covid interferes with iron in your blood. Iron carries oxygen. If you’ve ever been anemic, you know what it feels like; it causes extreme fatigue, shortness of breath and heart palpitations.
Which may be why patients who require ventilation are less likely to recover and even have damage from the ventilator if they do recover. They’re mechanically manipulating the lungs, but there’s not enough oxygen in the blood.

Just for grins and chuckles I wrote down the programming languages I have worked with professionally. There are many that I do not remember because it would be for something like a seventies calculator or something I saw once or twice as an electronic technician. I do not write code anymore, but I have to be able to read it and troubleshoot things so the list contains a couple of the newer languages. I am going to learn more of them as my system moves to the cloud. Fortran, ADA, Pascal, PL1, LISP, Basic, C, C , C#, C , Python, R, Ruby on Rails, ROS, JAVA, Java script, Unix, Linux, 4-bit Forth, 8-bit Forth, DOS, Windows, many assembler languages, Android stuff, PERL, SQL, and many more. Oh, I do not remember using COBOL professionally.
