  1. Good thing the lawn tractor was secured in the trailer. I bet it took a while to figure out what to do with the walls and roof in their newly crumpled form.

  2. As i like to say, the instant the WWII generation passed away, we Americans promptly forgot all the lessons they learned for us.

  3. Ha, we have a low railroad bridge on a busy street that is real good about snagging box trucks. They have big yellow warning signs and this year put flashing lights on the sign but no matter. About once a week some box truck gets caught.  A friend  worked for a local produce delivery company, They had a picture of one of their truck stuck under the bridge , under the picture “If you try to drive under this bridge you are fired” They also had a map of alternate routes.

  4. Hey…  if Bloomberg is gonna be the nominee based on tv ads in Texas…   then what about the bombardment of ads here in NH by Steyer.  For every Bloomberg ad I see ( and I see plenty)…  I see about 5-6 ads for Steyer.

    Sturg…  great pic! 🙂

  5. Speaking of Pearl Harbor, when i was out there a few years ago, a couple soldiers from base were tasked with transporting some equipment across the island, except their load was above clearance and they weren’t paying attention and destroyed an overpass, resulting in millions of dollars of damage.

(Edit: it was 12 years, ago.  Tempus fugit😭)

Dear Friends Acquaintances and Soon-to-Be-Forgotten Business Associates,

Best regards of the season from our family to yours! What a year it has been! 2019 saw a lot of changes around here. We became Florida residents. (Spiritually, we had dwelt in Florida for a long time.) We said goodbye to our old friend Sarah and many meaningless traditions she had been the last one to cling to, like the holding of regular news conferences. We decluttered many things around the house, including but not limited to most of the State Department, which we hope to have entirely eliminated come next fall!

The kids have had a big year! Ivanka is still enjoying her work as a senior adviser to the president of the United States, and, as an added bonus for her, she gets to see her dad whenever she’s at work. She has gotten to sit in some chairs at important summits, and sitting in chairs has always been a passion with her. Her husband, Jared, is continuing his important work in conflict resolution; he hopes to succeed where others have failed for centuries, and he made a really cool video. He has taken on a lot this year, but if anyone can handle it, it’s this guy! And he keeps making friends all around the world.

This has been a very big year for Donald Jr., who published his first book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us.” It is a bestseller, and people love it so much that they have ordered enormous bulk boxes of it to fill their offices and warehouses. Don Jr. is very proud of this achievement.

Eric, as always, has been busy with business. Some people would have viewed impeachment proceedings against Dad as a big downer; not Eric, who saw them as an opportunity to promote Trump Wine! This is the kind of spirit that has always secured Eric his spot among our Top 5 most favored children.

    Tiffany!

Melania has been exploring her creative side, and this year’s White House decorations are her most exciting yet. The Washington Post called them “monochromatic” and “decorations.” She plans to spend many happy hours walking alone and unsmilingly through them in a coat, something she looks forward to every year.

  7. Bink, you are so silly. There are 2 states. Four states hold their primaries or caucuses before Super Tuesday, but I’m told that only Iowa and New Hampshire count in the entire nominating process.  That despite the fact that they have only 65 (40%) of the 155 delegate votes cast before the Super Tuesday races (which has a haul of 1342 delegates) and 662 on 4/28 and represent 1.6% of the total 3797 pledged delegates at the nominating convention (3.2% of the 1990 needed to win on a first ballot count). So you can see that the 65 delegates from IA and NH are clearly determinative of the outcome of the Dem nomination.

Oh, and is Iowa a utopia?  Not unless you’re very fond of corn, hogs, soybeans and cows.

  8. The problem with Iowa and the Democrats is that it doesn’t even represent Iowa. Like Missouri it is dominated by college/urban liberals.

  9. given the early attention this primary has received, I suspect Iowa and NH will have little impact. There is no dark horse that will come out. The moderates are stuck with Biden and the rowdy left are in love with Warren and Bernie. So about the only thing to wonder about who will break the 15% level on the first round of balloting and where do the supporters of those who don’t make the cut go for the second round. Also, For Ms Amy K, Iowa is do or die, if she can’t make it there then she is out.

  10. Given how stupid SFB is by needing to flush ten or fifteen times it is no wonder he cannot read the signs “Save water, let yellow mellow”.   The operators at Blue Plains must see a huge water flow every couple of hours from the WH.  So now he wants to force all makers of toilets selling to the U.S. to change back sixty years and make new molds for big tanks.  It would be more helpful if SFB stopped eating for a few years.

  11. I agree that Iowa and NH will have little impact this primary/caucus season.

As for utopias…  they exist only in books of fiction and fairy tales…

  12. It was about 20-years to the minute after the Japanese mounted their attack on Pearl Harbor. Had it been on that fateful day my troop ship the, USNS Gaffey, with its manifest of hundreds of soldiers, marines and sailors headed to Hawaii and the Far East, would be on the bottom of the Harbor. Perhaps we would be next to the Arizona as we had passed close by that vessel’s resting place as we crept to our mooring.
Sitting here listening with one ear to the TeeVee, I haven’t heard a single mention of Pearl Harbor or WW2. I remember that War during which I was nothing but a precocious child. I remember jumping into Japan from the plum tree behind our house, going with Mom to pick-up the ration books that allowed us to shop for essentials, and I remember the German bombers attacking Cleveland in the middle of the night. And, I remember walking with an older neighbor-boy with a can of lighter fluid and a box of matches. He sprayed the fluid on a sidewalk and together we clapped as he burned Hirohito’s house down.
Finally, I remember the rage when Jack Noonan, the young man next-door who had been drafted towards the end of the War and was sent to Germany, fighting until his unit was sent back to the States and was demobilized. The cause of his rage? In the summer of 1950 he opened an envelope that read that he was being recalled to participate in the Korea Police Action.

  13. Maybe Trump clogged his toilet trying to flush Sondland’s requested documents from the State Dpt., and the transcript of the call that exonerates him.

My choices so far this year   I started out with Sherrod Brown and then moved to Amy and my second choice is Elizabeth Warren
I could vote for any of the following in the primary as well — Julian Castro, Cory Booker and Mr. Yang

  15. Nunes, eh? Isn’t he the ranking member (of the minority) on the House Judiciary Committee?  The impeachment hearing committee?   Sooo, does it seem that there’s a slight conflict of interest here?  Should he not be removed, ousted, kicked off the committee?

  16. Life is good, well almost.
Just finished a very late second breakfast.
Spaghetti red with a poached egg on top and a good Italian sausage. with cheese biscuits
I’m not a fan of spaghetti red but Mrs jack was so every once in  a while I would buy a good Italian sausage or meat ball. ( we are lucky as there are still a few of the old Italian families that used to live in old northeast. making sausage and meatballs the old way.)
One morning I took the leftovers, heated them up, soft poached a couple eggs, toasted the left over bread and a new must have breakfast was created. The only way I eat Spaghetti red any more is with the yolk of an egg mixing with the red sauce.  mmmm god that’s good.
Drop in sometime and I will cook it for you

Did Devin and his cow make up? Now that is news, the last time I heard Devin was suing his cow for slander or something like that. It is hard to keep up with everything going on in this multi ring circus. But with the Republicans we can always be sure there will be clowns.

I think we need to have Pat work on that Christmas card. It is a little rough around the edges. I will bet our Pat could say the same thing and make it work.  She has the talent.

  19. Heading home now after short Orlando trip, perfect weather 72 degrees and sunny. Encouraging CT scan for Dad, cancer lesion on his lung has barely grown last 3 months, no symptoms despite no treatment, he ruled out chemo and a biopsy. VA Oncologist very happy, so are we.

  20. our pat is beyond brain dead right now in the creative dept.

but thanks, jack, for the kind words.  will try later to rise to the occasion.

  21. Craig, glad to hear about your father!  He made the right decision.  He will have a better quality of life if he does nothing.

  22. court orders schmort orders.  we don’t care about no stinkin court orders.  we’re magats.

    the guardian:

The construction of a private border wall partially funded by rightwing allies of Donald Trump continued with vigor in south Texas this week, seemingly in blatant violation of a court injunction ordering work to be suspended.

On Thursday and Friday, within three days of a temporary restraining order being issued, the Guardian found construction crews with at least 10 heavy machinery vehicles moving soil, digging trenches and positioning tall metal posts along the US bank of the Rio Grande in Hidalgo county, which forms the border with Mexico. A 3.5-mile, privately-funded concrete barrier is planned on the site, near Mission, Texas.

The state court order was served to We Build the Wall (WBTW), an anti-migrant group founded by military veteran Brian Kolfage, and the landowners, Neuhaus and Sons LLC, whose land is situated between Trump’s proposed wall and the Mexican border.

WBTW is a not-for-profit group that has crowd-funded millions of dollars by tapping into anti-migrant fervor and is led by former White House advisor Steve Bannon as chairman of its advisory board. Kolfage has described migrants as terrorists and drug traffickers, and accuses border wall critics as being cartel collaborators.

The injunction, issued on Tuesday by a state judge, was granted citing potential “imminent and irreparable damage” to the National Butterfly Center, a popular 100-acre riverfront nature reserve adjacent to the Neuhaus property. The wall could act as a dam and redirect floodwater and debris to the sanctuary, destroying an ecosystem which sustains hundreds of native butterfly species and birds, the center said.

Shortly after the ruling, Kolfage posted a video on Twitter of a man standing on the riverbank wearing a fluorescent vest, identified only as “Foreman Mike”, who said that thanks to “patriotic donors” a mile and a half of land had been cleared, and steel bollards and panels would be installed within 48 hours.

    […]

An employee of the construction company Fisher Industries, who identified himself as Sean, confirmed that work had continued uninterrupted – despite the injunction.

“They [the construction workers] have told us they are not going to stop,” Sam Pena from the local sheriff’s office said on Thursday. The sheriff’s deputies filed reports documenting the ongoing construction work that appeared to be in violation of the court order.

And, on December 5, the federal government launched separate legal action to stop the construction, on the grounds that it violated binational treaty obligations with Mexico. A temporary injunction was granted by the US District judge Randy Crane.

That federal lawsuit, filed on behalf of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IWBC), states that required hydraulic studies proving that the wall would not worsen flooding on the river had not been completed, and scant detail about the planned work had been submitted.

  23. KC, one of your choices has a chance. I could support any of those candidates but I’m not overly nuts about MFA platforms. Amy’s my first choice among your preferred candidates with Cory a close second. Unfortunately I do not think either has the chance of a snowflake in hell to get past Super Tuesday if they have enough cash to get that far.

  24. KGC

Still hanging with Amy and my second choices and/or VP possibles:  Booker, Castro, and Harris (VP slot).  Not all that impressed with Yang, but he’s bearable.

  25. On Wisconsin on Wisconsin kick some hairless nut of no value butt.
I think the primaries should be about ideas and not some imaginary standard of who can win.
Biden can’t, won’t win.   He would make Roman Hruska so happy

  26. Larry had him an old panhead, he would get a few days  where he could ride then spend a few days with it  in pieces in his garage.  and every winter he was always rebuilding that motor. had it spread out  in a back bed room.

  27. Ha, after I listened to the canned heat song you tube has run 2 ads telling me they will buy my junk bike. Must be a lot of folks with junk Harleys.
    So lets change that algorithm
