  1. and for those who wondered what happened next after the Lee kerfuffle at the end of trial yesterday, according to the hill:

[… describes action & cites quote by Lee in newspaper Deseret here…]
Schumer cut in to try to get clarification on what was being voted on. Amid more confusion, he hit pause on the trial “while we work this out.”
When the Senate reconvened, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the lead impeachment manager, announced that they were agreeing to Lee’s request to strike the record.“Mr. Cicilline correctly and accurately quoted a newspaper account, which the distinguished senator has taken an objection to, so we’re happy to withdraw it,” Raskin said.
“This is much ado about nothing because it’s not critical in any way to our case,” Raskin said before leaving the podium.
Lee, however, appeared unsatisfied, shooting back, “You’re not the one being cited as a witness, sir.”

  2. ofc sicknick’s family has grounds too and not just against the mob, but the former prez & certain senators.

  3. FOX ratings probably matter most in persuading Republican senators to convict. They are carrying it live but wrapping it with nearly all right-wing commentators slamming the House managers

  4. jamie, lee by his protesteth too much last night has now only magnified and gotten more attention to what he said and to what occurred re trump/tuberville.  i don’t think his fellow LDS will side with him against the deseret news. also this ain’t no “lying for the lord” dispensation from keeping the commandments.

  5. craig, i heard one talking head say that fox cut away from the late afternoon video segments so as not to expose their viewers to the more brutal actions of the insurrectionists.  is that correct?

  6. a negligent homicide case could be made not just by pence and sicknick family but also by the families of the 40% otherwise avoidable covid dead.

    the guardian:

The US could have averted 40% of the deaths from Covid-19, had the country’s death rates corresponded with the rates in other high-income G7 countries, according to a Lancet commission tasked with assessing Donald Trump’s health policy record.

    […]

In a wide-ranging assessment published on Thursday, the commission said Trump “brought misfortune to the USA and the planet” during his four years in office. The stinging critique not only blamed Trump, but also tied his actions to the historical conditions which made his presidency possible.

    […]

The commission condemned Trump’s response to Covid, but emphasized that the country entered the pandemic with a degraded public health infrastructure. Between 2002 and 2019, US public health spending fell from 3.21% to 2.45% – approximately half the share of spending in Canada and the UK.

To determine how many deaths from Covid the US could have avoided, the commission weighted the average death rate in the other G7 countries – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK – and compared it to the US death rate.

In another comparison, the commission found if US life expectancy was equivalent to the average in the other G7 countries, 461,000 fewer Americans would have died in 2018.

  7. The campaign ads against any Senators who refuse to convict ,and, who act like idiots and refuse to even take this matter seriously, well, they are being written this week.
And as for tRUMPsky, Georgia will take him down even if Republicans Senators won’t do it.

  8. What an EXCELLENT presentation and historical document!

They need to put bullet proof glass into stronger, reinforced doors at the capitol.

They should call Pence as a witness for the prosecution.

  9. Bingo! House Impeachment Manager Ted Lieu (D-CA) to Senate: “You know I’m not afraid of Donald Trump running again in four years. I’m afraid he’s going to run again and lose, because he can do this again.”

That gives 2024 Republicans something to think about. Let him run again in the presidential primaries and he’ll have his mobs kill you.

  10. Yep.  To whom did Republican Senators pledge their oath of office?  To Donny?

If Marco Rubio thinks being belittled with name-calling was bad, wait until the violent mob is unleashed on him if he tries to run against Orange Julius Caesar.

  11. Actually, there isn’t anyone in any party, running for any office, who is safe if the ideology of Donny/Ted/Josh/Lindsey/MTG isn’t quashed. Voting to convict is a start.

Are Republicans too afraid of Donny and his mob to vote against him in public?
Democrats aren’t afraid. So, maybe Republicans aren’t afraid, but are traitors.

  12. Ha! Jamie beat me to it.  I was writing a to-do list post since much of real life is now experienced virtually.
Jamie – Check out the radio station in Dalkeith, Scotland.

  13. All of those groups and loners who made up the mob didn’t get together in DC and then break into the Capitol without the direction of tRUMPsky.
He did nothing to immediately stop it, either.
    He is guilty.
Ted Cruz and others who refuse to convict all be guilty of allowing this to happen in the future.
