âHow many of you had âMark Hamill will lead the press briefingâ on your bingo card â hands?â the actor, wearing dark suit, blue tie and sunglasses, asked reporters at the start of a media briefing. âYeah, me neither. I just got to meet the president and he gave me these aviator glasses.â
Hamill, 72, then put the glasses in his pocket, quipping: âI love the merch.â
Hamill, who has more than 5 million followers on X, where he is a trenchant critic of Bidenâs election rival Donald Trump, said he was âhonouredâ to be invited to meet âthe most legislatively successful president in my lifetimeâ, and reeled off a list of Bidenâs accomplishments.
The actor told reporters that âit just shows you that just one person can be so influential and so positive in our livesâ and said he would take questions, âalthough no Star Wars questions, pleaseâ.
Asked about the Oval Office meeting, Hamill said: âI only expected to be there for five minutes. He showed us all his photographs.
âIt was really amazing to me because I was invited to the Carter White House and I came. And then I came to the Obama White House but I never was invited into the Oval Office, and it was a large gathering. So this one was really extra special.â
In the original blockbuster Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), Hamill played farm boy Luke learning Jedi mind tricks from Obi-Wan Kenobi, an elderly Jedi master who has seen better days. On Friday, it seems, he again took the role of young apprentice to the 81-year-old Biden.
âI called him âMr Presidentâ. He said, âYou can call me Joe.â I said, âCan I call you Joe-B-Wan Kenobi?â He liked that.â

Thanks for the play-by-play commentary, Craig. I followed all day on MSNBC, and last night Lawrence OâDonnell just trashed Hicks for lying about Trumpâs actions a couple times. Her crying jags are a mystery, tooâŚphony or just real from nervousness and maybe shame. OâDonnell ripped her for just being a person born to wealth who declined to join forces to do good in the world and instead, standing with Trump in cases like separating kids and parents at the border. L.O.D. has a harsh opinion of her.  The Night Watchman hasnât gone away. Allâs well. 0322 AM, Derby Day. âJafaridze is among thousands of Georgians who have for the past month gathered each night outside the countryâs parliament, facing down tear gas and water cannons fired by increasingly brutal police, to protest a bill they fear will torpedo its bid to join the European Union and push it further into the Kremlinâs orbit.â
âThis has become my routine,â he told CNN. âIf we donât protect our freedom right now â our European and Western future â tomorrow weâre going to wake up in Russia. And that will be it.â
âThe ruling Georgian Dream party is trying to force through a âforeign agentâ law, likened by critics to a measure introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin to quash dissent. The draft law, which has passed the second of three votes, would require organizations in the former Soviet country that receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as âforeign agentsâ or face crippling fines.â
âJafaridze, who also owns a travel business and says he receives 95% of his income from foreign sources, says he would âimmediatelyâ be listed as a foreign agent under the broadly-written law. But critics say the intended target of the legislation is not business owners like him, but Georgiaâs independent media and civil society organizations, ahead of elections in October in which Georgian Dream, whose popularity is waning, is desperate to keep power.â

But thatâs his old job. At 44, he is fully immersed in his new one: owning racehorses. The competitive juices he funneled into baseball for the entirety of his life are now directed toward his horses, including Dornoch, the 3-year-old colt who will start from the first gate in Saturdayâs Kentucky Derby.

The far right county commissioners here have decided to give themselves a 60% pay raise. Of the 4 person committee who will be voting on this, 3 of them have close ties to the far right county commissioners. The job of county commissioners is NOT considered to be a full-time job, but one of the commissioners (who insists that she didn’t take the job for the money) compared their jobs to that of a 31-year veteran nurse. They provide a service to the county. The lead county commissioner will see his yearly salary increase from over $27,000 to over $44,000 a year. The others will have their pay raised to $33,000 and $34,000 a year.

I corrected him a few times the said “what the hell’ and let it go. So the whole crew called me Dan.
