  1. (CNN)More than 80 students were potentially exposed to Covid-19 on the first day of class in Reno, Nevada, on Monday after a parent sent their child to Marce Herz Middle School, despite both the parent and child receiving a positive Covid-19 test just two days earlier, Washoe County Health District officials said.

The exposed students had to quarantine at home and started distance learning on Tuesday, the Washoe County School District said.
In a Tuesday letter sent to the parents of impacted students, Principal Brandon Bringhurst said that if their child is fully vaccinated, parents can bring the vaccination card to school and the student can resume in-person classes immediately. Impacted students can also take a Covid-19 test on or after August 14. And if they test negative and don’t have symptoms they can return to school on August 17.
The school district did not share information about the student who came to school after a positive test or their parent. The parent refused to communicate with the Washoe County Health District staff or school officials, the health district said.
“We are not seeking to invest our limited resources in bringing charges against the parent at this time,” the health district said in a statement. “We are seeking cooperation from our community members.”

Big News breaks down the anti-mask mandate furor, the fight for the $3.5 Trillion Spending Bill, and the Taliban’s shocking victories in Afghanistan with best-selling author and Senior Editor at OZY Media, Katty Kay.

  3. however, LP’s take on it is a little more serious – might say downright chilling in its presentation

First they asked you to sacrifice your grandparents for the economy, now it’s your children.

  4. You know when the waiter brings your dinner and says, “hot plate” and you touch the plate?  That seems to be the same glitch in some humans with covid. They won’t get it until they touch the hot plate, only it’s the hot plate that will be touching them. Many of our longtime customers have gotten sick, been unable to keep working due to long covid symptoms or, sadly, died. This week, I found out another one has lung damage. He believes it’s real now.

Several local mask mandates in Texas allowed for now as legal challenges to Gov. Greg Abbott’s ban mount

“Gov. Greg Abbott has banned mask mandates in schools and the state will not provide funding for remote learning.“

Texas warns Austin restaurants that their liquor licenses could be revoked for requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccinations

“The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has warned two Austin restaurants that they could lose their liquor licenses for requiring their customers to provide proof of at least a first round of COVID-19 vaccinations before they would be served.“

“Senate Bill 968, signed into law in June, allows the TABC and other agencies to revoke businesses’ state licenses if they make vaccine proof a requirement of getting service.“

If I were a business-owner considering moving to Texas, I wouldn’t. Republicans are trying to impede the safe operation of businesses. Could OSHA get involved???

Texas is unraveling at the hands of Republican monsters. Their motto: A Kid In Every Coffin

Can the parents of children who get sick or die from school exposure sue the state?

  5. query for pogo & other trail abogatos/as:  once FDA formerly approves covid vaccination and if CDC or even local school board has declared public health emergency with regard to school, would a charge of child abuse and neglect stand against a parent who refuses to allow eligible child to be vaccinated?

Definitions of Child Abuse and Neglect (childwelfare.gov)

Child abuse and neglect are defined by Federal and State laws. At the State level, child abuse and neglect may be defined in both civil and criminal statutes. This publication presents civil definitions that determine the grounds for intervention by State child protective agencies. At the Federal level, the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) has defined child abuse and neglect as “any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caregiver that results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse, or exploitation, or an act or failure to act that presents an imminent risk of serious harm.”

  6. I think at this point any school , hospital, or elderly care facility whos staff aren’t fully vaccinated  we need to pull all federal funding. There is no need to pay anyone who is endangering the people in their care.
    Just sayin’

  7. Jamie – Charlie Wilson’s War was one of the first video’s I bought for movie night back when we were furloughed.  I had seen it a few years ago and thought it was one of the more interesting movies of that genre to add to my movie collection.

Movie night is when the weather is not nice enough to sit outside on the dock or boat, winter type stuff, so I put a DVD in the tray, grab a glass of wine and sit back to enjoy a movie.  I have a very nice selection of movies so no matter how long the weather lasts, we can view movies.

  8. Three teachers and a teaching assistant in Florida’s Broward County died from COVID-19 within a span of 24 hours, the Broward Teachers Union told NBC Miamion Thursday.
The union’s president, Anna Fusco, said at least three of the four were unvaccinated, per NBC Miami. All four were on summer break when they caught the virus and died just as the school year was about to begin, she added.

  10. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/08/13/texas-border-wall-greg-abbott/

    Today, in Texas Republican dumbassery…

“The Texas Department of Transportation is set to pay nearly $25 million for the construction of a nearly 2-mile concrete barrier along the border in Eagle Pass, giving the first glimpse into the potential cost of a state-funded border wall pushed by Gov. Greg Abbott.“

“At the cost that TxDOT is incurring to build the Eagle Pass concrete barrier, $250 million would build about 20 miles of wall. Texas has about 1,000 miles along its border with Mexico where no barrier has been built.“

  11. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/13/us/dallas-county-no-pediatric-icu-beds-left/index.html

“Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are surging and in Dallas, Texas, there are “zero ICU beds left for children,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a news conference Friday morning.”

“That means if your child’s in a car wreck, if your child has a congenital heart defect or something and needs an ICU bed, or more likely if they have Covid and need an ICU bed, we don’t have one. Your child will wait for another child to die,”

  12. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/13/health/wildfire-smoke-coronavirus-climate-change/index.html

“Fine particulate matter air pollution can be an additional vehicle for spreading the virus even faster,”

“Fine particulate matter, or PM 2.5, is among tiniest yet also the most dangerous pollutants. When inhaled, it travels deep into lung tissue where it can enter the bloodstream. PM2.5, which comes from other sources like fossil fuel plants, cars and agriculture, and is linked to a number of health complications: asthma, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, and other respiratory illnesses — all underlying conditions that make people vulnerable to severe outcomes from Covid-19.“

  13. Weather forecast notwithstanding I’m embracing the weekend. I’ll be going out of town with Mrs P short of a hurricane or pestilence forecast. I mean, geez. Jesus fest is this weekend in East Bumfuck and I’ll be damned if I’m staying here for it.

  14. i’m ruining my night vision to report a lot of nice meteors with smoke trails right now
