The Democratic candidate for US Senate in Pennsylvania, John Fetterman, has fired back at Mehmet Oz, after a senior aide to the Republican said Fetterman might have avoided a serious stroke in May had he only eaten more vegetables.
âI had a stroke. I survived it,â Fetterman said<. âI know politics can be nasty, but even then, I could never imagine ridiculing someone for their health challenges.â
[…]
Fetterman, 53, had a serious stroke in May. He returned to the campaign trail this month and has discussed the challenges of doing so.
Oz, 62, is a former heart surgeon who became a popular if controversial voice on daytime TV. In Senate testimony in 2014, for example, he admitted promoting diet pills that did not work.
Pennsylvania is a swing state, its Senate race seen as key to determining control of the chamber. But fivethirtyeight.com puts Fetterman more than 10 points ahead and Senate Republican leaders are widely reported to be moving spending elsewhere.
Donald Trump endorsed Oz but according to Rolling Stone now thinks his candidate is set to âfucking loseâ â a remark Trump denied.

I’m all for Mr Fetterman, but doesn’t he remember Hillary’s “health challenges”?
speaking of bovine pucks, the field is full of them
Expect a Trumpier U.S. House of Representatives next year.
House Republicans are not only forecast to win control of the lower chamber in Novemberâs midterm elections, theyâre also poised to bring with them a roster of new arrivals who have embraced the former president and his false claims of fraud surrounding his 2020 defeat.Â
A number of Trump loyalists have bumped off more moderate Republicans in the summer primaries â a list that grew longer on Tuesday with conservative victories in Florida and New York â while a number of other centrists are stepping into retirement.
The combination foreshadows a power shift in the House GOP that has the potential to complicate any bipartisan compromise with President Biden, while creating headaches for Republican leaders who will face pressure to demonstrate their governing chops in a new majority.Â
[…]
âThese are not libertarians; theyâre anti-libertarians in all sorts of ways,â Galston added. âAnd thatâs the Republican Party now.â
The influence of aggressive, Trump-loving House members and the number of headaches they create for GOP leadership next year may depend on how successful Republicans are in House races overall in this yearâs midterms. Many of the newcomer GOP candidates in competitive races trying to unseat Democrats are more centrist, and largely do not talk about the former president.
Oz, a doctor with ~compassion~
Bagging on a guy with 10 houses who has a campaign team so inept as to send him to a grocery store to complain about high prices do he can point a finger at Biden (who is helping the average Joe), misname the store, and pick up random items like asparagus and deli-made salsa for a veggie plate (call it what you will), shows he is just in this as an ego boost is not the same as making fun of a medical condition.
What does Oz actually believe? What would he do? How would he fix things? Nope. Heâs all ego and no heart, despite being a cardiac surgeon.
DISGUSTING! AWFUL! I have just received word that life is getting marginally better for some people, and I am white-hot with fury! This is the worst thing that could possibly happen! I did not suffer and strive and work my fingers to the bone so that anybody else could have a life that does not involve suffering and striving and the working of fingers to the bone. I demand to see only bones and no fingers!
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night thrashing because I have had the nightmare again, the nightmare in which someone else is being spared a small hint of the suffering I endured. The world should not get better! The world should get worse along with me and perish along with me.
Every time anyoneâs life improves at all, I personally am insulted. Any time anyone devises a labor-saving device, or passes some kind of weak, soft-hearted law that forecloses the opportunity for a new generation of children to lose fingers in dangerous machinery, I gnash my teeth. This is an affront to everyone who struggled so mightily. To avoid affronting them, we must keep everything just as bad as ever. Put those fingers back into the machines, or our suffering will have been in vain.
When I see unleaded paint or un-asbestosed homes, I froth at the mouth and start stomping up and down like Rumpelstiltskin. And who are we to think we deserve better than to die of sepsis? Why shouldnât smallpox be out in the world for us as it once was? Are we too good for scurvy, now? Our great-grandparents made do without penicillin, did they not?
What a fallen, broken world we live in. The audacity of people trying to eat food not contaminated by waste, or increase the number of rhinos in the wild â they had better not! Clean the air? YOU STOP THAT RIGHT NOW. Inhaling thick lungfuls of coal smoke was miserable for me, and it will be miserable for you. Put the cockroaches back into the kitchen, please, and lye back into the meat!
[…]
John Adams wrote that âI must study Politicks and War that my sons may have liberty to study Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study Mathematicks and Philosophy, Geography, natural History, Naval Architecture, navigation, Commerce and Agriculture, in order to give their Children a right to study Painting, Poetry, Musick, Architecture, Statuary, Tapestry and Porcelaine.â
This just shows you what a fool John Adams was! No one should get to study Painting, Poetry or Musick EVER, and if they do, they should pay for it their entire lives.
I am not opposed to this student loan forgiveness plan because I fear it wonât ease the suffering of millions; I am opposed to it because I fear that it will.
I fought uphill battles and squinted into the night and toiled and burdened myself in the hope that my children, one day, would also get to work exactly that hard, if not harder, and suffer at least as much as I did, and have, if the Lord allows, lives worse than mine. God, please make their lives worse!
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report on Wednesday revised its projections for GOP gains in the House, with editor Dave Wasserman saying on Twitter that it is ânot out of the questionâ for Democrats to maintain control of the chamber. The group, which once predicted Republicans would pick up 20 to 35 seats, is now projecting a more modest increase of 10 to 20 seats. And Republicans say they have dialed back their expectations even as they remain confident they will retake the House.
The student loan program announcement has lit up the blogosphere. I wasnât aware that there are so many experts on the effects on the economy of reducing student loan debt, and with so many different solutions to the problem of student debt without crashing the economy or heating up inflation. I am heartened that there are so many experts out there to provide so much advice in comments sections online.Â

âDoomed to failâ: Why a $4 trillion bailout couldnât revive the American economy
An avalanche of U.S. grants and loans helped the wealthy and companiesthat laid off workers. Individuals received about one-fifth of the aid.
The four spending bills that Congress passed earlier this year to address the coronavirus crisis amounted to one of the costliest relief efforts in U.S. history, and the undertaking soon won praise across the political spectrum for its size and speed.
The $4 trillion total of government grants and loans exceeded the cost of 18 years of war in Afghanistan.
âWeâre going to win this battle in the very near future,â Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said after the Senate approved the Cares Act, the largest of the four measures.
Six months later, however, the nationâs coronavirus battle is far from won, and if the prodigious relief spending was supposed to target the neediest and move the country beyond the pandemic, much of the The legislation bestowed billions in benefits on companies and wealthy individuals largely unscathed by the pandemic, according to a Washington Post analysis, while at the same time allowing special aid for unemployed workers to expire over the summer and leaving some local public health efforts struggling for money to conduct testing and other prevention efforts.money missed the mark.
[…]
More than half of the $4 trillion approved by Congress this spring was targeted to businesses, according to a Washington Post analysis based on figures from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, an independent, nonprofit and bipartisan group. That and the other dollar figures in this story reflect the amounts Congress authorized. In some cases, the amounts spent and the projected impact on the U.S. deficit are lower.
Much of the money was issued to companies regardless of whether they were impacted by the pandemic or used it to pay employees.
The bill included $651 billion in business tax breaks that often went to companies unaffected by the pandemic and others that laid off thousands of workers. ….[
[…]
So while the Cares Act and other bills spread out the money, much of it appears to have benefited companies that donât need help.
There may be no clearer example of this than the Cares Act tax breaks.
The legislation offered generous tax breaks for businesses of any size, in any industry and regardless of need…. […continues]
