  1. mitch’s remarks about the criminal justice system (starting at 17:42 in cspan video) rather than the political system resolving the indicted, twice impeached instigator of a coup should not only be replayed over and over to mccarthy’s gym gang but might also be useful to be played in arguments at the hopefully up-coming J6 trump trial.  early in his speech, mitch clearly declares the former loser guy responsible for inciting the insurrection.

  2. BB, no, I didn’t see it. NBC moved the coverage to Peacock and Universal+, neither of which do I have. I’ll have to go watch clips at LeTour.fr. I did see the previous stage where Pogačar was blocked by two motorcycles near the top of the climb where he clawed back a few seconds, but in light of the ITT that didn’t ultimately matter much.  But I have been very surprised at how the motorcycles and cars have been in positions way too close to the riders and not only on the back and leading the breakaways and the peloton so that doesn’t surprise me.

  3. Bink, thanks for posting the extended highlights from yesterday’s stage.  WTF was the driver of the red car thinking?  I didn’t see footage of it trying to make its pass – apparently of the motorcycle that was stopped on the road in front of it – but regardless, absolutely stupid move.  Pogagcar demonstrated what Phil Liggett means by cracking for anyone who didn’t know.  What a disaster for him – start the stage with a crash then drop 6 1/2 minutes on the final hard  climb of the tour.  I don’t think anyone is second guessing who the top rider is this year.

  4. As of last reports Trump lawyers, news media have not found anyone else who got a target letter. Could Smith be planning only to indict Trump in this first round? Couple of thoughts on consequences of that: it would pressure co-conspirators to cooperate (if they haven’t already) because he could always come after them later; and Trump. as sole defendant, might start blaming them to save himself, which would really encourage them to flip.

  5. Craig – I have been wondering how today would go for the upcoming indictment.  Smith does like handing out goodies on Thursdays, so my guess is he is not planning on the presence to SFB today.  Would he have the voting today?  I think so, enough that I have another bottle of champagne in the chiller.

  6. Also curious the target letter listed Deprivation of Rights statute.

Summary: Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for “a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.”

Could be a clever move if this means Smith intends to charge Trump violated our voting rights by denying the majority the outcome they voted for. That personalizes the crime for all voters — and it’s a broad charge that can include a variety of counts, from fake electors to trying to stop certification in Congress.

  7. Trouble with today scenario BB is Trump lawyers told reporters they have until midnight to respond to offer to testify. If that’s correct it could push indictment to tomorrow and arraignment next week.

  8. Recapping Trump cases…There are FIVE civil or criminal trials scheduled or underway between now and March 2024 – NOT COUNTING the Miami documents trial TBD or the Georgia indictment expected soon.

This case is set for trial Jan. 29, had not heard about it: Trump Persuaded Struggling People to Invest in Scams, accuses the president and some of his children of using the Trump name to entice people to invest in get-rich-quick schemes.

  9. Craig – saw that the GJ is having a couple more visitors today, not the orange moron, so we wait.  I may enjoy the champagne just for giggles.

  10. ivy, thanks.  surprised that hasn’t been used already for a headline or meme.

craig, could be those we think should also be targets might be named as unindicted co-conspirators (remember uc#1 in cohen’s case) to be considered later if need be and some (likely julie and meadows) opted for pleas and mercy.

  11. I drove by a man and a woman this afternoon on my way home from the grocery store. They were holding up a sign that said, “Sign the recall petition”. It was a petition to recall the Republican who was elected to represent the district I live in. So, I pulled over and I signed the petition.

  12. “What road we on? We on the right road?” *

*Actual conversation, 1981, 3 am amidst the corn fields south of Chicago between Dr Rhino, at the wheel of the ‘64 Caddy; and me riding shotgun, rudely awakened.

  13. My congressman is on tv now. Such an improvement over the last guy we had in Alabama 6 (who we never heard a peep from in our district but would occasionally see on tv lurking in the back of any group gathering of his louder cohort.)

  14. ooh 45min extended highlights

let’s see what these emaciated European automatons did today 👀

  15. …there was an “RJK Jr. apologizes…” headline, so i read it and thought, “oh no, RFK Jr., this apology is more offensive than the original controversial remarks”

    How it usually goes, eh?

  16. OMG, a ‘Press’ motorcycle almost killed cyclist Jack Bauer around the 6:40 mark in above video

Wow, great sportspersonship from Vingegaard, awesome attacking by Pogacar, what a stage!
